It might be there to protect form HEAT. Sure, the thing on the PZ4 was meant to stop the Soviet AT rifles, but they quickly realised that it also is effective against said round. In the hypothetical scenario the Germans told the Japanese and the Japanese put it on their tank for this purpuse.

The problem isn’t that the type 71 is bad, its the entire tier 10 balance as whole. The tank as you said shouldn’t be this bad but being jack of everything doesn’t cut it anymore and WG think having ok-ish armor for mechanic that need you to sit still is just stupid.

fun fact: i had my "Max Blocked In a Game" Record with the Type 71 for nearly 4 months. it was 7k+. then i got back the Type 5 Heavy for the memes, and got a 7k damage game with 13k damage bounced.
22:09 the balance department must have tajen note from WoTB, because when it was first released, it was one if the OP'iest Heavy Tank combining thick (like thick, 178mm thick, so effective of 290-310mm) upper plate, a 40kph top speed (and i think 20kph reverse), good gun habdling, and great traverse (espcially that one improved traction equipment gimmick). And so in WoT, its upper plate is utter dogshiet. It was so OP it was used on blitz Tournanents alot. And i somehow hold the record for the All time record most Damage done (8.8K) still to rhis day because of how OP it was.
to put into words how horribly op it was it had mobility of a bit slower medium gun of en e5 armor of maus with normal dimensions wierd track wheel that had more armor than other part of the side and 9 degrees of gun depresion wich were/are (idk if they fixed it) bugged so you couldnt even know if the enemy was using extra mobility or extra gun depresion
in fact allegedly wg only nerfed it cause pro players didnt want to play wich would then threaten wg by not getting money from sponsors for tournaments if its true or not idk
I just back to the game and just realise this. That explain why the tank go slower even with suspension equipment. It sad out of everything they have to nerf the speed, now it just your average heavies with MBT looking.
PC type-71 line, unlike the mobile one is quite bad, since there's not much redeeming factor outside of the double aim mechanic. The upper front hull only have 120mm nominal thickness, which at angle at flat ground only have ~240mm of armor, which means essentially every T10 heavy can easily pen the entirety of the hull front without as much as breaking a sweat, and it really limits how far they can tank things. The hull is closer to a light/medium rather than a heavy due inadequate armor. Only the turret is the redeeming factor. However meanwhile, in the mobile version, the type 71 line is very much enjoyable, due to having great mobility and actual heavy armor that is quite impervious. The upper front plate have 171mm nominal thickness, which means only TD with premium round can actually pen the upper plate at flat ground. And that level of absurd armor combined with angling, and exclusive suspension equipment (decrease ground resistance) allows the type 71 in mobile to have extreme mobility to wiggle and bounce shots to the weakspots around the hull. Yes, the mobile version don't have any of the double aim nor the siege mode mechanic, and it has mediocre pen, dispersion and reload, however it totally makes up for it with the armor. The PC however, is literal butter there. 3 months on tier 9 and 10, and I've only saw one in all the battles I fought.
Actually now you can pen the upper plate easily with most heavies in flat ground, some TD will even pen it with regular round. It's not as broken as used to be in WoTB but redeemed by it's lolpen shell which is an AP+. I played it back when it can shake its way out of combat, very Juicy.
@@nikonikoni1820 yeah, next month patch really rebalances the mobility by quite a lot, reducing their god medium-like mobility to just a quite fast heavy. I think it got slightly nerf too after the equipment rebalance, since it reduce the enhanced armor equipment, while calib shell got good increase, however even then you need a calib equipped TD to actually pen it with regular rounds, and since most players rarely use premium round outside of necessity, it's still a solid UFP for majority of part, tho the gun handling is still left much to be desired imho
@@danieltanusetiaji8931 i can see that, but the tank itself work fine as it is, WG did justice to the type 71, while not as unique as it used to be, I really enjoyed it, a tank that can vertically make the enemy armour suggestions is something I never thought about outside of autoloader. Type 71 AP+ does just that.

ill die on the hill that the type 57 is actually great, the gun depression is INSANE (and not even dumb fake suspension depression, its all normal) with the turret armor, and with the aim mechanic you can snipe cupolas easier than most heavies you meet its the only good thing in the whole line
I fucking struggled hard in the Type 57 tier 8. I thought it would be great too, but the gun was just a let down. The tier 9 I actually loved and have maintained a 65% win rate with.
Indeed, Type 57 gameplay in a nutshell: hide lower plate, be careful with cupola and watch these folks bounce. I just love it, and for those that keeps waiting for the MACHANIC, they are just dumb imo, there are fell moments that I rlly need to use the mechanic, I can just shoot like a normal tank.

The alpha for the aim time, gun handling and reload is poor. I mean, tanks like Vz.55, 5A, AMX M4, 277, IS-7, etc etc... can hit for +500 without trashing that much the gun handling or aim. And 400 HP alpha single shot guns at the tier are godlike (S.Conq, T110E5). Also your mobility on general is too poor for the size and armour. You got 2 mechanics at the cost of suck on every other aspect. In his current state i up the speed to 40km/h, give it a bit better soft stats and 420 to 460 alpha.
Yeah, the new Japanese heavies are just heavier versions of the Japanese medium tanks. Which isn't bad, it means that they liked the Mediums enough to make them bigger.

I've tried to make type 71 work quite a lot, but the tier 9 is simply better. Type 68 have a upper-plate that can bounce when hull-down, type 71 doesn't And type 71's cupola is twice as huge as type 68, which both are hull-down tanks Also the gun is equally horrible for me. it's actually pretty accurate when cooldowned, but when it's not, it's a soviet gun. One time I was in my type 71 aiming at a afk 50tp 400m away, I miss 4 non-cooldown shots into lower-plate in a row, all of them went to the hole between lower-plate and the ground. The next shot I pen the lower-plate, cuz I was mad enough to aim at upper-plate So yeah, type 71 is hot garbage imo too, the only reason I keep it is I have dez commander on it

Would rather play the medium than the heavy. Not hindered by the aim mechanic, smaller hitbox and camo, still has the siege mode and faster. Also if I remember correctly irl the tier 10 heavy is just a bigger version of the medium.

its funny how in World of tanks blitz this tank is absolutely busted with gold absorbing armor and good "mechanic" where you can pick between 2 more degrees of gun depression or improved mobility, and in this game its just trash. since this line was first in blitz im guessing that here they wanted to avoid making it an OP tank to not repeat what blitz did.
Love how on WoT Blitz, when this tank came out it was so broken, it could do everything perfectly, having very few weaknesses if any. Even after being nerfed, it's still a solid heavy. Meanwhile in PC, it's hot garbage it seems, cuz the game has zero balancing and more gold spam than anything else.
You should try these tanks on WoTBlitz. They are completely different, and are actually *HEAVY* tanks, especially the tier X. (The tier VIII on pc is a premium on Blitz)
man, seeing you two have some fun dispite all the bs and rng shafting really makes me sad i never got my friends to stick to the game. They gave up at tier 3 or 4 before any fun begun, so i never had the luxury to coordinate or have fun talk with the game as boring backdrop.
Thought the tier 8 would be good with the true 12° of depression. But God damn I just could not get it to work. The gun handling was just awful. The tier 9 clicked for me. Been maintaining a 65% win rate with it and have all the field mods unlocked. The tier 10 I have unlocked and have no intentions on wasting credits buying.
Type 71 or general the series is extremely weak aginst premium ammo. and in pc everyone is just spamming premium ammo, that‘s why the type 71 doesn’t work in WoT

Also the gun is equally horrible for me. it's actually pretty accurate when cooldowned, but when it's not, it's a soviet gun. One time I was in my type 71 aiming at a afk 50tp 400m away, I miss 4 non-cooldown shots into lower-plate in a row, all of them went to the hole between lower-plate and the ground. The next shot I pen the lower-plate, cuz I was mad enough to aim at upper-plate
So yeah, type 71 is hot garbage imo too, the only reason I keep it is I have dez commander on it

Would rather play the medium than the heavy. Not hindered by the aim mechanic, smaller hitbox and camo, still has the siege mode and faster. Also if I remember correctly irl the tier 10 heavy is just a bigger version of the medium.
Aim mechanic is OP ... yet still falls far short of the TRACK mechanic!!

its funny how in World of tanks blitz this tank is absolutely busted with gold absorbing armor and good "mechanic" where you can pick between 2 more degrees of gun depression or improved mobility, and in this game its just trash. since this line was first in blitz im guessing that here they wanted to avoid making it an OP tank to not repeat what blitz did.

i absolutely love the tier 8 tank, its aim and armour feels so gooood!!!
Love how on WoT Blitz, when this tank came out it was so broken, it could do everything perfectly, having very few weaknesses if any. Even after being nerfed, it's still a solid heavy. Meanwhile in PC, it's hot garbage it seems, cuz the game has zero balancing and more gold spam than anything else.
The Mitsu 108 kinda reminds me of the O-I exp before the nerf

Burza, is a new Poland TD tech tree, with mechanic too, the closer u are the more damage u do.
You should try these tanks on WoTBlitz.
They are completely different, and are actually *HEAVY* tanks, especially the tier X.
(The tier VIII on pc is a premium on Blitz)

man, seeing you two have some fun dispite all the bs and rng shafting really makes me sad i never got my friends to stick to the game. They gave up at tier 3 or 4 before any fun begun, so i never had the luxury to coordinate or have fun talk with the game as boring backdrop.
Thought the tier 8 would be good with the true 12° of depression. But God damn I just could not get it to work. The gun handling was just awful.
The tier 9 clicked for me. Been maintaining a 65% win rate with it and have all the field mods unlocked. The tier 10 I have unlocked and have no intentions on wasting credits buying.
I like the T6 myself. I just play it like a tiger and do pretty well.
I would recommend the IS-7 with the RAM mechanic!

The lesta version of the Type 71 tank needs to be imported into the WG version. It is currently too weak and not worth the effort.

Type 71 or general the series is extremely weak aginst premium ammo. and in pc everyone is just spamming premium ammo, that‘s why the type 71 doesn’t work in WoT
then you go to blitz where the tier x of this line is fcking immortal with 270 pen on normal and almost 360 on the gold and it goes 40km/h
