    The resilience and determination of Igbos/Biafrans is amazing to see. They went from abject poverty and starvation, went from millions dead to now in 2024 becoming the richest tribe in Africa. Simply awe inspiring. Proudly Igbo.

    This documentary is very touching.
    Why should any tribe or people be forced to live in a union they don't want. This was true the worst genocide in Africa and millions that died are never remembered or honoured. And the history is not taught in our schools, not even in the schools in Igbo land.

      Biafra massacre was truly horrific. As a Yoruba person, I feel like even being from a major tribe, we are suppressing other smaller tribes, and they don't like it
      It's either we disband Nigeria as a whole or we remain together, and I propose we remain together because nobody can remember ancient boundary lines

    I have read books and seen many documentaries about the war. What baffles me most is the nonchalant way with which present Igbo leaders go about there affairs. There share of revenue which is supposed to be reinvested into the states, to build and provide the necessary employment within the states are not being utilized. I would expect that the antecedents of BIAFRA would be a source of motivation to turn BIAFRA land into a mini heaven. Instead you get greedy politicians without clear objective. The east could be far much better if Eastern leaders see the need to use available resources as a means to creat a survival chain for the Eastern child.
    What the east need is a change in mindset and not exactly a change in region. As an Eastern Child I worry that even if Biafra be alone, this present crops of leaders doesn't have the spirit of the heroes past.

      well they werent as underequipped as many say. They were heavily supported by France Portugal and Apartheid era South Africa all of whom wanted Nigeria to fail to further keep blacks in bondage. Even before the war Ojukwu had began to stockpile arms using his own funds and the money given by the federal government following the heinous pogroms commited against the igbos. Other factors for success include initiative of the rebels in terms of agressive tactics and in improvising materiel to make weapons. this ranged from land mines to tanks and aircraft. Also the knowledge of ground they fought on was employed. And the passion was there. The rebel leaders said they would all die if they lost so they were literally fighting for their lives. In the end they lost and many former rebels served later in the Nigerian Armed Forces which is a good thing because real warriors are worth their weight in gold.

    I was born in the 1970s, a time when the United States frequently broadcasted scenes of the Biafra/Nigeria civil war. Despite being unfamiliar with the people or reasons behind the conflict during that time, we were constantly exposed to distressing images of malnourished African individuals and children with bloated stomachs, emaciated frames, and flies covering their mouths. Unfortunately, this contributed to a mistaken belief among some of the so-called American Negroes, that the entire African continent faced these issues. Learning in 2017 that many of our ancestors were actually of the Igbo nation was intriguing, and prompted me to delve deeper into my heritage. It breaks my heart to now learn that the Nigeria/Biafra civil war was our people and America never told us. It's ok because the truth is coming out. We know who we are and they are moving fast to past all types of legislation to censor us.

The fact is that the country 'Nigeria' has not proven to the world any atom of willingness to forge ahead with a proper vision void of religious and ethnic bigotry ravaging its economy and socio-political progress.

      Yes sir. Ojukwu's half brother, Tom Bigger died along side with Chukwuma Nzeogwu. His first son, Sylvester Debe Ojukwu who was 12 years in 1967,was a member of the Biafran boys company and fought alongside with Major Timothy Onwuatuegwu. Non of Ojukwu's children stayed abroad throughout those trying periods. Ojukwu closed one of his father's UK account worth 4m British pounds in order to prosecute the war. Reason why he is loved so much by ndigbo despite Gowon's government attempts to paint him as a devil after the war.

    The bitter truth is, in as much as the Igbo's want Biafra, they aren't strong enough to do that even over 50yrs after the war... I feel the hatred for Nigeria has made them not plan effectively. During that 50years, they could have planned there ways into the army and top position by pretending to like the north just like yorubas do. Benefit from your enemy, gain strength and plan effectively for getting Biafra. The truth is, the east will still suffer if the north starves them which was one of the reasons of losing the war. All I see is emotional cry for Biafra, no strategies. Any war now will result in the same result as the first;this time, it won't even last a week. Planning is key

    • @raya7052
      @raya7052 2 роки тому

      This has nothing to do with a war that happened 50 years ago, the things that caused that war, and the lessons learned from it. Do you think that the majority of the Igbo and the other Easterners clamoring for Biafra or whatever separate nation want that? Do you think that any group in Nigeria wants war? Most Nigerians, then and now, want to remain one. Your comment is the problem about Nigeria on both sides but particularly the non-"Biafrans", whether you are right or wrong, you misunderstand the issue. Listen to why they're so angry

    • @raya7052
      @raya7052 2 роки тому +2

      The Yorubas did that and what has come of that? Are the Yorubas any more or less developed overall than the Igbos? Is Western Nigeria (apart from Lagos) any better in terms of quality of life compared to Eastern Nigeria. What has being subservient to the Northerners done for you? In the 60+ years since Nigeria's independence, have the Yoruba people benefitted from the "enemy", gained strength, and planned effectively for the growth and success of their people? Do you think Nnamdi Kanu represents the majority of Igbos? He doesn't. MASSOB and IPOB don't represent what Easterners really want. When you hear Nigerians complain about Oodua Republic or Biafra Republic or revolution or reconstruction, there's a reason why?
      "Plan ways into the army and the top positions"? Lmao please. Do you think after the Civil War, that the Northerners would even allow the Igbos to sniff the top positions in the military and government? Yorubas make that sound as easy as some of these Igbos think achieving Biafra is. No wonder Nigeria is messed up. The British gave the least capable ones (the Hausa/Fulani) all the power, and the ones that are left are either too idealistic/delusional (the Igbos) or too nonchalant/subservient (the Yorubas) to do anything

      The war wasn’t planned at all, the secession was an impromptu response to the pogroms in the north. You can see there was no premeditation at all, if there was, it would have been well thought out, and more likely successful. But now, nothing stops eastern Nigeria from forging its own destiny even within the Nigerian state. With the right political leadership, eastern Nigeria can realise its true potential, without a war, which was d original quest prior to Biafra.

      And the suffisticated yorubas are having their lands invaded daily and maybe now advanced like China after the 50 years.
      In 1945 , 53, 66 etc these people are massively killed in their numbers up north because of perhaps igbophobia.
      Ahmadu Bello brought northernization policy , was that the time they would have started the romance?
      Do you mean they should have folded their hands to self development to be good boys so you don't loot their shops in lagos or kano?
      Was it an igbo that reneged on the Aburi accord?
      Was it Ojukwu that shot the first bullet?
      Did Ojukwu declare war?
      When he declared a state of Biafra he asserted that he has the option for negotiations on the table and if Nigeria cared about oneness why didn't they explore it?
      The children, and women including those in Asaba who danced to welcome the federal troops and at the end got massacred was that how wars are fought?
      There's no emotions about truth.
      Today both you or the other willing tools used for the genocides are as affected as the supposed vanquished.
      Biafrans didn't call for war and the propaganda of using the past event to cow the igbos is unfounded, how has the middle Belt fared in their silence and romance, today their lands are taken and renamed. Same way Kwara state is now an Emirate of the caliphate

    I'm not saying the actions of federal Nigeria during the Civil War are justifiable, but the 1966 coup d’etat was primarily led by the Igbo military commanders which killed the Nigerian PM, the Northern Premier and many other key political figures.
    This coup laid the precedence for the marginalization of the Igbos and the pogroms that ensued in Northern Nigeria right?

      What time do you want him to use to plan , what you need to understand is that both Nigerians and Biafra never had in mind to fight war , because they are brothers, this war was created by the British to defend there selfish interests, when they noticed that ojuku was intelligent enough to think of good governance for the country, what ojuku was fighting for how many years ago , is what everyone is discussing today . Which is restructuring.

In war, there is no victor and vanquish, all are victims. Please, Nigeria let unite and if forced to fight, let us fight with our mouth, yabbing shiit at each other, fighting and spilling blood, misery, diseases and especially killing our children who are our future.

    This message is for the various Igbo and Yoruba groups in the Diaspora, it seems like we are in a better position to help those back home. Ibadan Descendants Union, Eze Ndigbo, etc., USA, UK, France, etc., need to join forces and take Britain to the International Court of Justice, Hague. They must admit what they did to our people and also be part of the Solution ("Great Solution" especially to quell any agitation from the North). We are not asking for reparations (even though we could as well ask for damages to cover the big loans and indebtedness of the current country). Then "We The People" can truly decide our own destiny. The Southern people have the right to determine their self-government and the right to a more stable union. Our people need us, what can we do for our "Country"?

It very obvious that he was manipulated by the Brits because of discovered oil resources in the South. Mind you the various regions were doing fairly well in terms of economy before then. So whoever was telling him he needed to go to way to force a union wasn't really interested in unity but the newly discovered oil fields.
