My daughter's 2019 Yaris is the same way. Anytime I go to the parts store, it's a mission to find the correct part because it's really a Mazda. 😮
When I replaced the stretch belt for the water pump, the Mazda part number printed on the belt didn't work. We ended up using the Toyota part number to find a Gates replacement belt 😂.

2018 Mazda3 -Has That Red Key light
    Changed Key Fob Battery CR2025
with B13D3:4A-8A (Passive Anti Theft System Transmitter. Heard it’s a rear antenna for the keyless system

I recently did a Mazda with the same exact light on the dashboard and it was due to the wrong key

Wow, Crazy! I still think you have to charge something, Maybe not your whole fee but at least a flat fee for checking out the car. Just like if you're diagnosing a car and it takes you five minutes, I assume you would charge at least an hour or a come-down fee.

True but the problem is my company policy is that if I don't find the cause or fix the car I don't charge for the job.

correct. some dealers even if they have the part available they won't sell it to the public. they leave it for in-house repair.
