    Barry Stokes was also in a great horror/sci-fi drama Prey (1977, UK)

    This is indeed a hidden gem. Haven’t seen it since 2021. I recommend 1973’s Bell From Hell, another Spanish film with Bardem co-doeecting, however there is animal death shown in a cow slaughterhouse, so major warning there. I’m listening as working on train graffiti books. Thanks for the great listen, KotN!

      I don’t watch as obsessively as I did when I binged from 2020-2022. A few: Vampyres (1974) Messiah of Evil, Beyond the Door III, Alice, Sweet Alice, Argento’s Opera, Ice Cold in Alex, Singapore Sling, Hard to be a God... so many good ones out there.

    I agree this was a hidden gem. This was a movie I bought on whim when it was first restored a few years back and I found it not only entertaining, but visually very exciting: I loved the house and the extra green pastoral setting. I was dazzled by the bold colors of Jean Seberg's checkered dress! And frankly the bloody finale was pretty shocking in its gratuitousness. I suppose if you're a straight man, Seberg, but especially Marisol, would be great eye candy. If you're gay like me, Barry Stokes was ultra hot. After seeing this movie I was surprised that Stokes didn't have a very big film career, because he's super charismatic in this. I agree with you too; I think this fits giallo easily.

    Thanks for watching this, had never heard of it, and I agree it was a straight out giallo film. Twisting turns in the last few minutes had me guessing what I thought was going on! Really enjoyed, thanks again!

    Thanks for reviewing this one, Katie. I have this on my long list of films to see for a while now. I too thought Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll. Corruption of Chris Miller is included in the third volume of Troy Howarth’s book series, So Deadly, So Perverse. Yes, in volume 3 and probably the reason it’s not on the wiki is because, like you mentioned, it’s Spanish and has no Italian funding. Hey, I don’t make up these rules. 😂

  • @davidmajer3652
    @davidmajer3652 18 днів тому

    Thanks for another solid review. Since it is not Italian, it is not considered a Giallo, but it still walks the walk. Just call it a Spanish Giallo, and that should keep everyone happy.

    That UA-camr's inserts reminds me of the 80s thrash metal band Tourniquet who were major animal rights activists and, after viewer complaints, got their video for Ark of Suffering banned from MTV because it was intentionally loaded with tons of commercially available images of animals being mistreated & abused mostly in scientific experiments & by meat packaging plants.
    It's a great song but one of the most disturbing videos I've ever seen and was almost enough to make me a vegetarian. It definitely made me reduce the amount if meat I eat and, at least, take notice of where it comes from. I'd like to be a veggie but it's a weakness I can't completely overcome.

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  18 днів тому +1

      YIKES! yes that sounds very similar. It's interesting, that sort of material/information is definitely something I choose to avoid because I too am a meat-eater, but I do think about that stuff from time to time. HOWEVER.... not when I'm about to sit down to The Corruption of Chris Miller 😅

      @@KatieoftheNight likewise, and it's one of the reasons I've never seen Cannibal Holocaust or Cannibal Ferox. I know they're considered genre classics but knew of their reputation for filming animal cruelty since I was a kid. I have always avoided them for that reason (plus they pretty blatantly racist.) I got brave and finally watched Mountain of the Cannibal God because it's Sergio Martino and heard it was much more tame than the other cannibal movies from that time, however it had some pretty disgusting animal cruelty too that I had to fast forward past (which is something I almost NEVER do when watching a movie.)

    Great review of a great film (and I like your poem). That vegan upload is bizarre - I mean, how many people do they think they're going to reach with this film? I love it but it's not exactly the most widely searched for. You'd think if they were going to use a Eurocult movie they'd use an Italian cannibal one so they wouldn't need to add any inserts. The internet is strange.

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  18 днів тому

      yes, VERY strange! but i like that the internet still has some of those 'wild west' qualities. scrounging for content, settling for poor quality, stumbling upon disturbing material uploaded by peculiar individuals, etc. 😂

    Just got online, out of power for two whole days. So 2 days of mild suffering.
    Just got done watching Deep rising....blatantly obvious the first Resident evil movie ripped off Deep rising big time. It was decent. Not bad at all.
    Anyway....YES, yes, so very glad you liked The corruption of Chris Miller. Love that movie.
    And yes, it is a giallo movie.
    I own the Vingar DVD/Bluray of the movie. I've watched two different VHS rips of the movie. One that was normal VHS, and another that was more...over exposed.
    No matter what format I've watched this movie in, I always love it. It's high on my list of top giallo movies of all time.
    By the way, Barry Stokes, I watched TWICE another film he's in Prey from 1977. Didn't know how I felt about Prey, so I gave it a rewatch a week after watching it.
    And....while I really liked it, just something off about it. But not bad.
    But ya, the story is great, the characters and acting are top notch, the flow of the movie is great, the ending is great. The mood is great. The landscape is great. Just everything is great.
    The directing is great. The music is great. Easily one of the best films of the 70's.
    3.4/5.00?! SERIOUSLY!?
    Ya, I am often perplexed how films I really love/ed and enjoyed are rated so low, meanwhile garbage films I've seen are rated 6.1, or even 7.1
    So, awesome you've liked Blue eyes of a broken doll and The Corruption of Chris Miller, because are like in my top 5-10 giallo movies.
    So ya, loved the review and now....I have to go feed my horses...[and just in case your wondering. No, I do not own any horses. Let alone know any personally.]

    A fun movie to watch is...Gutterballs 2008. A splattery gore fest. If you like that kind of thing. Sort of Giallo-esque.

    The film certainly has a provocative title. I guess I will have to watch to find out but so far it's unclear in what way Chris Miller is corrupted or if she even is.

    • @KatieoftheNight
      @KatieoftheNight  18 днів тому +1

      It's not quite as spicy as the title might suggest but it's still a pretty interesting concept! I didn't want to elaborate too much and corrupt those who haven't seen it 😆

    I didn't like this gialli. Eventhough I was intrigued because I knew Pepa Flores / Marisol for being her singing career. The main reason I didn't like this was most of the 2nd act was filled with the 3 characters in the house, with no kills like a standard gialli movie. Plus the ending seemed rush. It felt like they didn't thought it out for a better flow.
