Aww. I love this! It’s so special for me! It’s wonderful you’re doing this for your subscribers. Great review. I’ve seen both versions. The original Mario Bava version is deemed best and I agree. I have not seen the remake. Thanks again. Glad you (and your husband!) enjoyed it.
Thanks for this rec!! Very memorable :) this has been quite a fun project, it feels so much more personal.
@@KatieoftheNight yes, you make us all feel very special. Loving this.
I saw this movie once and really liked it, as did Quentin Tarantino. This movie did not get a theatrical release in the day, but it was released on video decades later. As a clerk at a video store TQ saw this, and it must have inspired Reservoir Dogs. Notice the similar name and subject matter. I vividly remember the windows being closed in the car and other drivers thinking they had AC. J&B was also copiously consumed.
the J&B was soooo copiously consumed, in combination with that heat, I almost felt sick myself! lol. YES I forgot to mention that "lost media" aspect to this movie, I'm so glad it finally got released after all that time.
Love, love, love all these pics 📺
Rabid dogs is so good. Glad to see you're getting into italian thrillers. Can I suggest you Almost Human with Tomas Milian, one of my favorite actor.
awww i do love tomas!
Thanks for the Heavenly video Katie 👍
Try Sergio Martino"s - Almost Human. I have his boxed set of crime movies, most are pretty good.
This is one of my favorites from Mario Bava and possibly my favorite of the Italian crime . Like the Texas chainsaw massacre you can actually feel the heat in this movie. Did you know that it was lost due to one of the producers dying and was never released until the early 2000s? I saw the remake and it’s decent, but it’s not as good. Glad to hear you liked it.
I did read that! i can't believe I forgot to mention it. That makes this film even more of a treasure!
A Bava film I hadn't seen until now, and I really enjoyed it! It must have smelled awful in that car and the twists in the movie were good. I guess I will have to watch the remake now, Thanks again Katie!
Sweat, mayo, and J&B! I'm so glad you enjoyed it too!
I love this movie. The remake is French, I think? Started to watch once, then stopped because it seemed pointless. Already having the visceral, claustrophobic, sweaty sardine can filled with striking camera shots of grotesque characters, tense moments, shifting alliances that is Bava's version, why do I need a gray, lifeless, modern approximation of what's already sublime? You nailed a lot of what I love about the original. Wasn't sure if you'd like this one. Cool.
Love these poliziotteschi movies the Years of Lead box set collection from Arrow is a wonderful place to start ! I've been & still am an avid Collector of the Italian crime genre before actually getting into all things Giallo check out Hitch-hike starring Franco Nero. if you get the chance ...Cheer's Katie another great review 👍
Rabid Dogs is top 3 my favourite Italian movies ever. Everything about this movie falls into the right place. It also shows Bava stepping out of his usual style for the movie.
And the actress who played the woman in the car is the one to be thanked for making this movie possible for everyone to see. The movie had been in a limbo due to Bava's financial struggles before finally being released sometime in the 90s.
The movie was remade in 2015 by French Canadians and it starred Lambert Wilson. It was obviously different than the Italian original but the plot twist at the end was far nastier. I mean, literally nastier. I still recommend it because everyone included did a good job.
AAAH yes I read that and I forgot to mention the whole "lost media" story of this film. That is so cool.
Nice review! I have this on blu ray and interestingly enough you mention this and CONTRABAND as your two Italian crime films. They’re really mine too that don’t blend into the giallo genre and it’s because of who’s directing them.
So I like to watch Bob Ross painting videos on UA-cam because they totally chill me out and lower my blood pressure. RABID DOGS is the complete opposite of Bob Ross. That’s my best way of putting it. Yes, totally tense indeed.
….and if we’re suggesting movies, for laughs, I’d love to see your reaction to Burial Ground (1981). It’s from the same director as Strip Nude For Your Killer, to sort of give you an idea of the bizarro factor.
man... I watched Burial Ground in my discord last year. it's one of those movies where people should really start recording their friends' reaction to it like they do with sleepaway camp. lol
For sure! TCM should air Burial Ground every Mother’s Day. I’m going to have to check out Sleepaway Camp.
Long Live King Diamond.
🤘🏻😈🤘🏻
18 is actually 9
Haven't seen this, but you have me keen to check it out. I know what you mean though about being a bit iffy on the Italian crime films. Some of them are great (Lenzi's 'Tough Ones' and Castellari's 'Street Law' for instance), but I find a lot of them quite convoluted and confusing. Everyone is dressed pretty much the same way so it gets hard to tell them apart and keep track of who is double-/triple-crossing who.
HAHA yeah I know what ya mean, it really helps if I can differeniate the characters from each other. that was a good thing about this movie, you knew everyone's names and there was no way you'd get them mixed up. Funnily enough, Tough Ones is on my watchlist for this month!!
❤Awesomeness ❤
Great film, very different from what we think of when we consider Bava, though of course his output crossed multiple genres. I understand the mixed feelings about George! Can I suggest a film for you - the original 1970s British thriller And Soon the Darkness...think you will enjoy it (not the terrible 2000s remake!)
Cool.
Thanks For Sharing
Great review 🙂 recommend Hitch-hike with Franco Nero and David Hess
oh man... that sounds good. bc hitchhiking is terrifying
@@KatieoftheNight It's a great movie and David Hess is great as always ..
Hopefully you watched the original Mario Bava version not the edited version by Lamberto Bava. And don’t waste your time with the remake from 2014
Ohhhhh, I clicked this so fast. It's the only Bava movie I haven't seen and a lot of people love it. I think I've been putting it off because it's so off-genre. Really interested to see what you think.
Oh, no, I tell a lie. He made two Hercules swords-and-sandals movies I haven't seen.
I think I watched this at a great time in my movie exploring stage in that there were some familiar faces and I'm accustomed now with that italian flavor... and i've also seen stuff that is much more brutal which made this easier to handle :) EVEN THO it's stressful!!!
@3:15 american complaining about tiny european cars :D wait until you see japanese ones ;)
HAHA! 😂
Can u do The First Omen?
Sure, just have 37 more movies to watch first!
