thank you! Very helpful. I just repaired my defender, had to split the catalytic burner as you said. I took the nozzle apart, 2 more steps: after removing you can remove the brass filter & inside use a flat screwdriver & remove the inner piece. i put all 3 parts in a little maf sensor cleaner & it came clean right away. put it back together with red hi temp permatex & its working again.
Thank you for your video. I really appreciate it. When I first purchased this machine it worked just like you stated. The second year of operation was less reliable and required CO2 cartridges and a ridiculously expensive CO2 cartridge attachment to clean out the propane burning unit. From this point on the operation was sporadic and VERY frustrating. I also found that the mosquito magnet CO2 cartridges where expensive to purchase and it was suggested that every time I swapped out the propane tank, I was required to use a CO2 cartridge to clean out the working parts. I did this as per Mosquito Magnet instructions. All in all it cost me about $100 to $150 to run for the first season. This expense excludes the purchase of above mentioned equipment ie the cartridges and attachment. In year 3 (this year) I fired up my mosquito magnet and spent an entire day trying to get it running. As the warranty on this useless machine had expired after the first year I had no issue opening it up. After watching a few UA-cam videos I diagnosed a problematic "Thermistor" I believe this temperature probe regulates the internal temperature of the mosquito magnet and keeps it running. I went online to purchase a replacement part and found that there are no available parts for the mosquito magnet. The only item they allow to be sold online is the igniter part (on ebay) I called the mosquito magnet service people and was rudely informed that they do not have part numbers or are able to send me any parts at all. I was referred to a service center in Canada. Although Mosquito Magnet worked well for a year and caught basket loads of mosquito's the subsequent years year of operation were terrible. I paid $400 for something that has a shelf life of approximately a year to two years max. There is absolutely no customer service or parts available. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Its finicky and expensive to run! I will be posting this to other mosquito magnet youtube videos sites in order to warn other people of this gimmick. If anybody wants to purchase my broken mosquito magnet and resides in Ontario please let me know and maybe I'll be able to re coop some lost money:)
Sorry about your experience with the mosquito magnet. They can be finicky that's why I posted this video to try and help people so they don't have to throw them away after 2 years. I would recommend replacing the nozzle and try it one last time before you throw it out. The thermistors do often go bad and yes you can only get those from MM. Sometimes they do pop up on ebay so might want to set a search on there for them.
aircraftmec I’ve had my Exec unit for at least 5 yrs. south jersey, seasonal. After last bottle exchange, couldn’t get it restarted, so bought a nozzle from you on eBay, thanks. But still not restarting. Display went on me about a year ago - everything flashes, so I can’t tell if there’s an actual error message or not. Read that most frequent issues are the nozzle and thermistor, but thermistor tough to get? MM cust service not much help, suggest I send to a service center, but I can’t imagine shipping the head of this unit without it getting destroyed, if they can even fix it. Any advice? Thx
@@davewenner156 I have heard several stories recently of them not starting after tank exchanges. Do you have another tank you can try? Make sure the battery is fully charged before you try and start it. I have another video about the start up procedure. See at what step it shuts off and restarts. Contact me through ebay and I may be able to get you a thermistor. If you do ship it to a service center then they can put a new screen on it. I recommend shipping it In a heavy duty double walled cardboard box. I usually get the 24/18/18 ones from lowes to ship them. Then you need lots of bubble wraps. You will probably want it insured as well. Not sure where you are located but I use the www.bbqbarn.com/ in Arlington MA. Hope this helps.

See if it is good by heating it and testing if the resistance drops from about 100,000 ohms to 5000 ohms. Try cleaning it too.
If you have a compressor you can blow the nozzle clean. Or you can bring the mosquito to a petrol station and blow the nozxle. The Co2 cartridge is very expensive and it does not help. A compressor is best. I put my nozzle in hot water and it works fine. After a treatment in hot water I put the nozzle back and attach the nozzle to the propan gas do not install the nozzle into the chamber yet. If you have a compressor use the compressor and blow the nozzle clean for water and carbon before you attach the nozzle to the fire chamber.
When handling the new fuel nozzle one should NOT touch the back end of the nozzle as even the oils on your hand will contribute to clogging that ultra fine brass filter. Handle it by the nozzle end only when installing. Also, this model has a purge valve designed for cleaning the fuel nozzle with a CO2 cartridge but one could instead just remove the schrader valve(this is the same valve as in auto and bicycle tires and the removal tool cost about $2) that is on the inside of this adapter and use compressed air to blow out any buildup in the nozzle that may be restricting the proper flow of propane.
just to add my two cents - first, you dont need expensive co2 cartidges to clean the system, just attach a compressor and it will work just fine. Second, debug order - gas tank (is it full enough, is there enough gas flow, for me the original regulator failed), power suppply (hardly actually fails, but easy enough to check), inside the machine - gas valve, igniter, thermistor. Gas valve should open around 2+ minute mark (you should hear a click and smell gas when you press the shrader valve at the back), then a couple of seconds later the igniter switches on and then theoretically it should turn on. Once the machine starts working the thermistor value should fall close to 0 (check with a multimeter). If all components work separately and it still doesnt ignite then try a new fuel regulator which attaches to the tank. Usually its the grime thats built on the thermistor from the humid air that stops the machine. For me it was the original fuel regulator which didnt supply enough gas to start it. Would work fine after manually injecting gas at startup.
very helpful! (as I sit here with mosquito bites all over my legs!) Thanks!
I have a Defender model. What exactly is the arrangement for retaining the nozzle? Is it just held in by RTV, or is there a tongue-and-groove arrangement positively holding it in? On the Defender, does the nozzle assembly have an o-ring like the Patriot does? Is there any chance the nozzle assembly can be removed from the combustion chamber without splitting it? Is it possible that putting a wrench on it and just wiggling and pulling would eventually get it out?
Unfortunately on the defender model you have to split the case and there is a tongue and grove holding it in as you mentioned. The patriot just has a set screw you can remove and slide it out but not so with the defender. Sorry. :(
please share how to buy control board for mosquito magnet as you VDO. Thanks
Hi, I just came across your work on Mosquito Magnets, and I have a question on power supply. I have an off-grid cottage and wonder if I can use a regular 12V batteri with solar panels or if it´s really necessary to first convert 110VDC/230VDC and then use the power adaptor that creates 12VAC? Some say the electronics inside anyhow converts the 12VAC to 12VDC?
This doesn't really answer your question, but you can get cordless Mosquito Magnet models. Then you could use a rechargeable battery. Once the cordless ones are running they don't use any electricity. The output of the corded power supply is 12V 3000mA or 36W. So a 12V battery that can handle that should work. But the fan is a continuous load so not sure your solar panel can keep up.
@@aircraftmec6858 Thanks, well I have a large batteri source so it might work, but my concern was that the power supply is 12V AC, and the batteries give 12V DC. Some say that it will work anyway, but do you know if the PCB Electronic will handle it?
Hello, I came across a good buy of a Mosquito Magnet Independence for $30. The issue is the thermistor. Do you have any idea where I can buy a replacement?
They sometimes pop up on ebay. Or you can have a service center fix it and they will replace the thermistor but also charge you labor.
at 10:35 you said "I sell genuine WDA nozzles....", where exactly do you sell them and how can I buy one. All the nozzles on Ebay only seems list what I assume is the size such as 1.50 or 1.75. could you add a link to where the 150 45 WDA nozzle can be purchased?
For the corded MM units it is a 150 nozzle. I sell them on amazon and eBay.
Today I managed to to repair my 10 years old Mosquito patrol. My other Mosquito Magnet plus do not work. I cleaned the nozzle and blow the nozzle with a compressor. After the service the Mosquito Magnet does not work. It will not ignite. My Mosquito Magnet plus is about two years old. The nozzle was very dirty. What can be wrong? Do you have any parts for the Mosquito Magnet Plus? Since the Mosquito does not start i think the ignite unit .
Yes it could be the igniter is now not working. You should be able to hear the igniter sparking (clicking) when it goes through the initial startup sequence. Even though you cleaned the nozzle and blew it out, and air compressor can blow debris into the small orifice and into the filter. I recommend purchasing a new nozzle.
@@aircraftmec6858 I have tested and verify the ignite has fault. It do not ignite when the clicking starts. Do you have an ignite for Mosquito magnet Patrol plus?
can the nozzle be cleaned instead of buying another? the amazon link says it's no longer available.
You can try and clean it but the filter has really small holes as does the nozzle jet. It is hard to clean it without forcing more debris into it especially when using compressed air. Check the Amazon link. That one works. I'll have to update the ebay link since I ran out last year and the listing expired.
@@aircraftmec6858 I'm from Canada, it says currently not available on my end when clicking on the amazon link.
@@cc123456789 Try it now. Both amazon and ebay links should be working.
@aircraftmec6858 I got the nozzle to work. If anyone is wondering how I cleaned it, Ive placed the nozzle in carb cleaner for 24hrs and let it soak. I then blew it with 100psi of compressed air on the back, front, sides. Before installing it back, I checked to see if propane came out after I hear the splenoid go off. It had a 2" flame when I place the lighter close to it. Ive installed everything back, I got a steady light. Ill let you know how it will perform in the real world.
Where can I purchase some nozzles from you?
They are for sale on Amazon. Click on the link in the video description.
where can i get the igniter?
Sometimes they show up on ebay. Contact me through the ebay link in the video description and I'll see if I have one.

Might as well change the ignitor while you're in there.
Mine doesnt even turn on. Anyone know why?
Have you check the power output of the power supply?
