    Here is some advice I wish someone told me before I accidentally started my channel. Engage in the comments, but don't be afraid to delete comments or even block specific people who "Troll". Learn to not take their comments personally. There are more people who like you than don't and the one's that don't are not worth your time to respond or think about. There is a difference between cordially disagreeing in the comments and just being rude. Last....be consistent in your uploads, but don't sacrifice family or you time for that schedule. That is where burn out comes. Enjoy the Process!

      This is such great advice, thanks Jared! I am super sensitive to trolls which is ridiculous being 44 years old! I know that if they are super rude it says more about them than it does about me. I haven't had to block anyone YET but I won't hesitate to if needed. I only need positivity around here!

      I am still trying to figure out that last part about being consistent but still enjoying holidays! Even if I try to get ahead of schedule, I end up feeling behind or rushed later. I've started being sad about going on trips because I want to work on my channel, which I know is ridiculous! But at least that tells me I'm really enjoying UA-cam. 🥰🙌🥳

      @@NatalieHamilton2024 Hey Nat, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being sensitive to trolls (or just sensitive in general)! I say this as a 50 year old HSP (Highly Sensitive Person), so one of my biggest hurdles into getting into this space is not just the judgement of others, but also just plain showing my face/speaking to a camera as I'm not a fan of either (or having my pic taken)! 😄 But I also realise that there are a LOT of people who think, act and feel just like me/us and THAT'S who I hope to appeal to. "Your vibe attracts our tribe" and all that good stuff 😎
      I like what Jared said though, that's something I will take to heart myself...

    Thank you for your videos! I really enjoy supporting smaller UA-camrs because I'm so tired of hearing advice from "gurus" who claim they got monetized in three weeks, only to try and sell you their overpriced, useless courses at the end. It’s a tough journey. Like you, I truly value every single subscriber I gain. In fact, I celebrate with my husband every time I hit a 50-subscriber milestone! Keep doing what you do, stay honest, and success will follow. Sending lots of love and support your way! 😘

    Good morning! I'll be your 123rd subscriber. I'm in a similar boat and your message resonates. I'm also in a similar part of the country (IL near the border in Grayslake). I just hit 1,100 subs and it's been an interesting journey. What tipped me over the edge was a single video. Most of my vids generally get a few hundred views. It didn't bother me cause I'm not here for the $ but the pure enjoyment of making them. I uploaded a video from my DIY office renovation series and it's been a huge hit - 237K views! For real. And the next one has gotten a few hundred lol. Needless to say, I really have no idea how this YT algorithm works ;) Anyway, wishing you every success on your journey. UA-cam is not easy. It takes a LOT of work, and dedication. But if you just stay consistent, the audience will grow. I’ve pretty much stuck to long form tutorial content over nearly 3 years. I made the difficult decision not to monetize my channel. Mainly because - I hate ads! And, I didn’t feel that subjecting my audience to something I, myself hate.. was ethical.

Feel I've gained some insights that could be of value. Stick with it! I look forward to watching you grow (and maybe I'll be brave enough to start my own before we hit 2025)!

      Yes! You should start a channel - I feel like now is the time and that more and more people over 40 are taking the leap - there is definitely a huge Gen X audience out there who just wants to see normal people out there, who are like them!

    I am by no means a "big" channel, but I have reached a good audience, and I absolutely understand that feeling of "treasuring every new subscriber." While I do admit I no longer look at the stats as often for who has joined, I am very appreciative of everyone who does! I hope you hit your milestones. Just remember to take breaks, and don't push yourself to burnout (you've put a ton of stuff out in a very short time, and that can very easily lead to burnout...I know this from experience). Keep going, and you mentioned the "comfy" number of things you did in a week, and that's a great place to aim. Life experience is definitely valuable, and it sounds like you've got some, so I hope you keep enjoying the process (and don't fixate too hard on the numbers (this is hard for me too)) 🤭💖 Good luck Natalie! 💕

    I just had my two-year anniversary since starting my UA-cam channel. I got to 1000 subscribers in the first year thanks to a video I did that earned me 680+ subscribers and currently is at 96,000 views. Unfortunately, I had to take a break For about six months due to the loss of my parents and handling their affairs. That break stalled out my channel and getting back into. It has been difficult. My partner program inclusion had lapsed and I am now starting over again because you need to stay in that thousand subscriber count in a rolling 365 days. Just because you got to the thousand mark doesn’t mean you get to stay there if you cannot maintain that count. In the last two years I was around the $70 mark but you don’t get paid until you’ve made your first hundred dollars. When I am able to apply again to the partner program, it’ll be interesting to see if it allows me to start where I left off or I have to start from scratch at zero dollars. I’ve learned to make videos that make me happy rather than trying to chase the algorithm. A small time UA-camr will never ever making enough money to quit their day job so do what makes you happy and forget about the rest.

    • @NatalieHamilton2024
      @NatalieHamilton2024  3 дні тому

      Oh, I'm sorry for the loss of your parents. I know how sad, stressful and time consuming it can be to get everything sorted. I hope you do still have that $70 "banked" so to speak. I feel like getting the 4k hours of watch time is tough but getting it in that 365 day is even tougher.

    • @TheDeLeonHobbyGarage
      @TheDeLeonHobbyGarage 3 дні тому

      I watched your entire video and I think you already are ahead of the game. You are going into this clear eyed where some people make their first video and think they are ready to quit their day jobs. Whatever equipment you were using it’s working for you, You are well lit, easy to listen to and your background is pleasant. I am still trying to find the best combination of equipment. I just recently did a video in my small studio room, and the echo was horrible. So many people film with horrible, audio, quality, horrible visuals, and junk behind them that distracts the viewer. I am subscribing because I can learn from UA-camrs who have a positive message and can help get me back to those initial reason why I started a channel. I think overall when you are creating videos about things you believe in or passionate about, I think other people connect to that and that is what drives someone from watching the entire video as to some people who may watch the first 10 seconds and click away. I wish you lots of luck through your UA-cam journey, and I will be watching.

    My channel is super small and I’m just coming up on 2 years. It seems like the creators that post videos about being monetized in 30 days have a primary channel with hundreds of thousands plus subscribers, so they essentially have a built in audience. My niche is very small. My channel is about being a drummer and the music I play is not mainstream, so I’m already in a hole. Haha! I’ve crafted titles and descriptions through various websites to maximize SEO and haven’t seen much change in views and subs as a result. Chasing it can be draining, so I’ve decided to just be myself, focus on the quality of my videos, including titles and descriptions and like you, hope I can find my people. My videos have to mean something to me if they’re going to mean something to anyone else. I will say, at this point with this video, you have 566 views and 55 comments. 10% of the people watching this are leaving comments! That’s huge!!! If people give a crap enough to comment, they’ll be back for sure. I think you’ll start seeing the rewards of that sooner than later.

Me too as I am a keen walker and love being in nature, so if I see a video like that (Timothy Ward's channel is a great example), I tend to watch those. I don't know if you have any videos like that, but would you consider making those if you haven't? I think that might help potentially boost some much-needed watch hours up... 🤔🙂

    Do you need the commercials to run all the way? Are they part of your watch hours?

      Hi there! I don't think you need to watch the entire ad to get watch hours to count - I think it's just the time watching the actual video :)

    Nice video and insights. We share things in common, we started our channels around the same time (although our channel was created 2 years ago), we posted our first video (A Channel Trailer) about 2 weeks ago. and we have about the same number of subscribers (I just subbed your channel). We have only posted one video and as of this writing, it is approaching 900 views.
    We are working on another video now and should be posting in a few days. Good luck with your channel, and growth. Take care.

      Thanks so much for taking the time to comment - I love connecting with people! 900 views is great for a first video! This has been the first one of my videos that has gotten some traction and it's the 11th long form video I've posted. Looks like you're well on your way! Best of luck!!

      @@NatalieHamilton2024 Thanks for the reply! I think I just got lucky and I am always searching for ways to improve, which is how I came across your channel after it showed up on my feed. That said, this will probably be your most viewed video to date and your subs are growing (I subbed). Your content is much more polished than mine. I am still learning.
