5 Business Mistakes to Avoid in 2025 at All Costs
I feel it’s more important that I can offer something of value, rather than worry about how often I post. I don’t want to get stressed about trying to get more than one or two videos posted per week. Looking at the long race. Enjoying your content.
New subscriber here! You're definitely talking about stuff intererest me, particular starting a youtube channel of my own. I'm a Gen-X gal and I've reinvented myself sveral times over. Feel I've gained some insights that could be of value. Stick with it! I look forward to watching you grow (and maybe I'll be brave enough to start my own before we hit 2025)!
Yes! You should start a channel - I feel like now is the time and that more and more people over 40 are taking the leap - there is definitely a huge Gen X audience out there who just wants to see normal people out there, who are like them!
Thanks for this video! I’ve started my first UA-cam channel, ‘The Book Squirrel’ (filming my local squirrels for shorts, and book review content for longer videos). I’m thinking that uploading shorts frequently is good to get my channel out there, with little minimum pressure on me, and then focus on weekly more thought out and detailed book videos. I’m pretty beginner when it comes to editing, so going to focus on sound quality and content over style for now, which will suit my personality more too (I’m 40 and much more chill than my younger self!).
For me, i just go with what feels right for me. So, trial and error for me, and i am enjoying it because it will help other's learn from my mistakes to help them who is on the same journey. I keep trying new things, and in the process, i am learning as i go along. So, for me, i am focused on self-development. So in the beginning, i would look at it like this: Keep posting and pushing out content consistently as it will give you more data to work to work with and benchmark yourself with new ways of doing things to compare with as you progress. We are all here learning from each other and supporting each other along the way. ✨️🫂✨️ Thanks for sharing 🫂 Keep going as each upload you are uploading is getting better and better 👌
Awe, thanks for your kind words and encouragement! I couldn't agree with you more. I don't think there is one right answer when it comes to this topic. I love hearing other people's perspectives!
Subbed! Great topics you raised!
Thanks for the sub! I appreciate you!!
Yeah I'm sure some lady with less than 300 subs has the secret sauce to being a successful UA-cam channel 😂😂
It is so much nicer to discuss the situation and these topics with someone that is going through it right now rather than someone that went through it ten years ago. The truth is that the basics of UA-cam are widely known. But it is by having discussions with people who are going through it when we are that we build cohorts and friends that will grow with us in the years to come. Sure, it is nice to hear from the big creators. Good information there as well. But it is here that we will find our UA-cam friends. Of course, this response is for the people reading the comments section who think, hmmm, this troll has a point. This troll is not here for useful conversation and will offer no value. But it is a good learning experience to see how they try to discourage you by appealing to the insecurities they hope you have (and it is likely that new creators do have!). So, this is good practice. What would you do if some account with zero followers decides to come on one of your videos and randomly throw shade to try and discourage you? I usually just remove the comment, but that last one I got was on my video about how to handle trolls so it was a perfect placement and I left it!
On one of my channels that I started two months ago I only have 90 subs and I post daily but for the first month I was posting twice a day. It is a faceless channel and so far I’ve only posted shorts. Each video gets about 400 views and as far as I can tell nothing changed when I started posting only once a day. So now I’m posting every other day to see if it changes anything.
I think that there is a middle ground between quality and quantity. If someone takes two weeks to make a really awesome video then it might be too high quality lol. And if someone posts daily or more (like me) then it’s probably to low of quality for a lot of people to want to take part it watching. Just thoughts. With your videos I think they are high quality not for the editing or lighting or sound but for the “realness” of the creator. If that makes sense.
Thanks for the comments! I agree, if it takes two weeks to make a video that may be too long - I feel like people need to figure out what is right for them and what type of posting won't stress them out.
The whole quantity vs quality debate is a good conversation topic. But I wonder how many of us really have the choice. When we start UA-cam we do the best we can and if we are figuring out the gear and lighting and how to talk on camera we don’t really have different modes. I have a friend who started at the same time as me. He is doing quality and I am doing quantity. I have challenged myself with a month of daily long form posts and am working on finding my groove. There is so much I know I need to improve, but, by posting regularly, I get a mite better each time. In two months I have posted 45 videos of various levels of quality. I have posted a couple of shorts (no more..not my thing), a daily series of long forms, and have started live sessions. My friend? He is still working on making his first long form video because he wants to make it “really good”. So, in the end, I would suggest that the answer to quality vs quantity lies more in the question “What gets you posting?” When we start our channel we aren’t sure what we will be when we grow up. Now is the time to just throw it out there and find out what we will become. So, I say, post the best quality you can that gets you at least one video a week. Beyond that, unless you truly are creating a masterpiece, I would be worried that the concept of “quality” could be a facade for that comfort zone of not posting. As for the benefits of posting a lot of videos? You get really good, really fast at making and editing videos! And I think that is the #1 reason why I am firmly in the quantity corner. Because once you have your filming and editing skills honed - and able to be executed quickly - you are able to start being creative about the other aspects of making a video. And quality starts creeping in just as a matter of course.
Have you considered doing Livestream?
Hi Joe! Yes, I have thought about it! I'd love to have a community that would show up and interact! What types of things do you think would be helpful to discuss on a livestream?
@ Announce it in your community tab, and you can also create a poll or “quiz” of topics that you’d like to talk about. But the biggest thing isn’t even the topic. It’s making a connection “live” with your audience. Read the questions, and answer them. I was SO nervous about my first live. I did it last night. I can only improve from there.
I have been aiming to upload 2 videos a week. One is my workflow and 3D Modelling for tabletop gaming and the other is the promo of the new product and uploading the digital files to my store with instructions on how it's used. I had some interesting results. But again I'm a small new creator and I had two setbacks like my 3D printer being down for over a month. I don't want to release none tested products and some life event made me take a step back. So my growth had a setback. Now I can start again and I have two printers, so if one is down, I have a back up. I just released a video last week and it had no growth, I released another one a couple of days ago and it's catching momentum and the previous one is starting to pick up, but at slow rate.
Twice a week works well for me. I have 7-8 videos ahead in wait in case of sickness or whatever. Even a 2 minute video takes time to make. Also I find I will review a video 2 days after completing to redo sections that aren't up to the quality I want.
I’m still trying to determine whether uploading more often is better or not. Some tend to advise newbies to post often for a while, others advise against that. I’ve only posted one video, a few days ago but plan on posting 2-3 times per week. It’s not easy cuz even basic editing takes lots of time, but I’ll do my best. I don’t want this to be a stressful experience cuz then I’ll give up. I think it all depends on the channel, the niche, the type of videos or content each channel provides. I just subscribed and will follow your journey and encourage you along the way! Let’s experiment!
I’m in your exact position where the basic editing takes so long. I decided to go live for 30 days. No editing just showing up everyday. I’m in marketing strategy and going live has definitely helped tremendously in getting more attention faster. Lives have its own thread so when I go live most of the people joining find me from the live feed. Which means people that might probably never find me otherwise have the opportunity to see me. It’s been great. Plus I notice some from the lives subscribe and then go watch my more quality looking and edited videos.
@ oh that’s great! Live is a different ball game though, a little intimidating for a newbie! Which platform do you use?
I love it when people do 30 day challenges because I feel like if you can get through it, it will show results. I have been thinking about doing a live stream soon - I'd love to have a community where people show up and we are able to have really great conversations about UA-cam and business.
Thanks so much for subscribbing! I agree, it just kind of all depends - for me, right now, making simple videos feels manageable and I keep thinking that being consistent is really the key.
@@NatalieHamilton2024 yes consistency is essential, but it’s a struggle for many and if not accompanied with some other strategies it won’t be fruitful.
Small UA-camr here as well, and yeah it does take awhile but we got this! ❤️❤️ best of luck to you, just subbed! :)
Thank you so much!! I keep telling myself that if you put in the time and effort you will keep growing! Have an amazing day!!
Thank you for sharing your experience. This channel is new too. Struggling to get to 200 subscribers.😅
Best of luck! Keep uploading and I know you’ll get there! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Thanks for this video us small UA-camrs got this❤
You bet! I'm happy you're here!
You have alot of great information thank you for that ,😊
I have another channel that just took off and I gained 1400 subs in one week. The problem that I didn’t know was a problem is comments. I’ve been told to respond to each comment. I literally have hundreds of comments. It’s almost a part time job answering them. What are your thoughts?
I am kind of figure comments out as well as I've never had this many before! If someone sends a really nice well thought out note I try to comment back for sure with at least a few sentences. I have heard as well that you should always comment back but I agree this can be a part time job! At a minimum I am giving it a thumbs up or a heart to show I read it and appreciated it. If you have any other ideas let me know!!
@@NatalieHamilton2024I started using the voice function and talking out my replies lol. I just never considered that to be a problem and I’ve never seen anyone ever address it.

Hi Natalie, your video just popped up in my feed (which is not that surprising as I've been watching very similar content over these last few days as I plan on becoming a creator over the coming weeks!) and something you said regarding liking people's videos where they're out walking and talking? Me too as I am a keen walker and love being in nature, so if I see a video like that (Timothy Ward's channel is a great example), I tend to watch those. I don't know if you have any videos like that, but would you consider making those if you haven't? I think that might help potentially boost some much-needed watch hours up... 🤔🙂
Hi @stevethomas74 - thanks for watching and I really appreciate your thoughtful comment! I have thought about doing a walking and talking type of video. I’ll have to try to find a nice warm day now that it it’s getting crazy cold in the Midwest! I agree it could help with getting more of those watch time hours! Thanks for the suggestion!
@@NatalieHamilton2024 Hi again Natalie, thank you for responding and for the positive comment. I'd definitely watch one of your videos outside! I've never been to the Midwest (I live in the UK) so I'm always interested to see YT creators filming out and about in their respective areas. I live in beautiful Shropshire here in England and we are SPOILT for beautiful scenic locations! I may well do some walk and talk videos come the new year 🙂
Ok young lady! I’m a month in after reviving my personal UA-cam from 2009. Till I got started again 30 days ago, I was at 13 viewers. 30 days later I’m at 24!
It looks like great information and like it will be evergreen. Is it a faceless channel? Best of luck!!
@ I do a few short live ones so people know that I’m real. My strength is content creation! I love righting then editing. 🌺👍🥋
Good luck with your journey. I am a small channel as well. I have been doing it for almost a year and have 371 subscribers. My channel revolves around my hobby which is collecting baseball cards. It is a very niche arena, but I continue to do it to have fun and meet others who enjoy the hobby.
I’m enjoying your content 🙂🙏 Martin
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for watching!!
Hello Natalie I just seriously started posting videos about 3 months ago and it has only been in the last couple of weeks where my channel took off. I gained 1400 subscribers and over 5000 watch hours in that time. But funny thing is I’m still not monetized 😮 I think it’s something where UA-cam needs to verify that the watch hours are legit or something. Anyway don’t give up. I’m 62 and doing this 😊 I also just subscribed to your channel. You’ve got great content. 😃 Martin
What a great and inspiring story! It’s so possible!! What a great amount of growth in a short time! Hopefully you’ll get monetized soon!
@ Thank you so much 😊
At least you have engagement, people don’t want to engage with me🤭not even in my Spanish channel where I have more than 17K subs, I’m a really good person but people tends to think otherwise 🤪🤷♀️ Keep going…
Oh wow! 17k subs! That’s something to be so proud of! I have been trying to ask questions in my videos to hopefully generate some comments - ask people their opinions. They may surprise you 😊
✋✋✋✋🤪🤦♀️🤷♀️I get a new subscriber every month😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
It's going to happen as soon as just one video picks up speed! Don't give up!
This channel is my personal one. I just started another channel. It really is hard. Im learning so much, though, thumbnail good titles filming on my phone. I started November 30th this year so far I have 100 subs. I'm doing alot of shorts and a couple of longs. I love how you make your thumbnails your video looks great also. I would like too see how a youtuber starts from beginning I'm tired of hearing how easy it is. It be nice too see the process sorry for rambling lol I think you will do great keep it up
Well said, I can so relate to this, and believe we might be each other’s people! Both of us looking to connect with the same audience, supporting & empowering small business owners to grow. Subscribing now! 😊
Yay! I'm so happy to find my people! I'll be sure to pop over to your channel and show some support! Thanks so much for watching!
This is exactly is. Subscribers are people. We can get caught up in the numbers and be like ughhh only 134 subscribers I’m not posting anymore because it’s not enough people watching, but that’s like saying those 134 that said subscribed because they want to see more don’t matter. I was talking about this in my live last night that I can’t fit the hundreds of views I got this past week in my house of the people were here. Let’s start thinking about people that fill rooms and respect and appreciate the even 2 minutes of time they give us to watch even a fraction of our videos in their busy days. Anyway I watched to full video last night. Love it! 😊
Good stuff! I hope that as my channel grows I don't lose sight tof that. I really appreciate you watching!! Best of luck with your channel :)
Thanks for the video and the encouragement. We are a NPO who have just started our UA-cam channel. We are currently growing by 2-3 subscribers a day and plan to keep on going.
That is awesome! Every person counts and soon those numbers will grow even faster!
Dear.. Sound is a little bit far away this time.. Thx for the video
Hummm interesting. I’ll have to figure that out. Thanks so much for watching!

I’m a new and small channel. I agree it’s not easy. I wish you great success. Keep it up. Thank you for sharing your journey. I don’t have advices yet aside be true to yourself eventually the right people for your content will come and join.
I wholeheartedly agree! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
This is very valuable advice. Shorts definitely increase watch time but I feel like they act as ads rather than "real" content for the channel. People are also interested in podcasts a lot. Maybe you can consider recording podcasts as well.
Hi! I'm on the second week of my UA-cam journey, I went to bed with 37 subscribers and woke up with 37. I know how it feels. But I have a lot to tell to the world and will keep going. I enjoyed your video, you are very genuine and positive. Hang in there!😃
Now you have 38! Where are you located? Turkey?
@@NatalieHamilton2024 Yes, I have 1 more person in my tribe:) I'm located in Turkey, Izmir. I hope UA-cam enables the language dubbing option soon. That might be a game changer for all of us.

I'm just starting too. I have this cat video channel and my second channel on my passion, my personal one on spirituality❤. Just sub. Best of Luck.

Thank you Natalie for the video, I felt how it was when I first created my channel, and very few viewer watched it, but I kept trying until now, hard work will not betray the results, everything will be beautiful in time ❤😊

Thank you for the insight and reminding me that we are people. I've got a video in mind where that will be helpful. Channel: @The-Veiled
Whoa, that is crazy!
Same for me with publishing 3 videos a week. For my other channel I had a hard time doing 1/wk. Having that channel for over a year helped me learn a lot that has made this channel better from the start.
Was surprised to see you have less than 1k subscribers! Very high quality video. I'm subscribing! 🥰
Thanks so much Megan! I appreciate your kind positive comments!! So happy you’re here! ❤️

Thank you for sharing this. I just discovered you, which is good! I have a tiny tiny channel. I started over a year ago with faceless, only posted 2 videos lol and gave up at the time. I posted my first video a few days ago (with my face) and I have 4 views 🤣. I expected it but it's really hard when you work for about a week on a video that only gets 4 views. I too know my tribe is out there and I know with time and perseverance they will find me. I am an introvert and a perfectionist and that's my tribe. Best of luck!
I just watched your video! It was REAL and so so good! Hopefully you will start to get some more views soon- don’t give up!
@@NatalieHamilton2024 aww thank you so much that's good hear!
I love your subtitles. Are you willing to share what software you're using to create it? I wrote a Python script that generates those for me, but it isn't nearly as clean as what you're doing.
Yes! No problem! It’s an online software called Nexus Clips.
Thanks for posting this! "Results not typical" is wildly true. I think there are very different results based on the kind of channel and content. My channel is primarily educational and targeted at inventors and IP issues for content creators. What that means is that my channel draws full video views (or even views > 30 seconds) only from people who actually need the information. Nobody is going to watch a video explaining trade secrets if they don't actually need to know about them. I think about it like old school media. Educational material on PBS needed government subsidies because the revenue from educational materials just didn't pay for the cost of creating those materials. UA-cam could modify their algorithm to push more content-heavy channels so that they position themselves as a source of deep information in addition to fail videos -- but I'm guessing that wouldn't be as profitable for them. Your audience seems similar to mine -- if you're passionate about starting and maintaining small businesses, that's pretty close to teaching startups about how they can use their intellectual property to grow their business. And man, I feel your pain. I have many subscribers, but I think they're mostly subscribed almost as a way to bookmark my channel just in case they ever come up with an invention or a copyright issue and then they'll already know where to go for details about how to deal with it. Because those subscribers do not in any way translate to views or hours. I was thinking last night that pushing out 2 to 3 long form videos per week on top of a short every day just isn't paying off in terms of views and watch hours and maybe I should consider whether there is a better use of my time. Your video helped keep me on track. I don't know how many times you said "tenacity", but that's the takeaway for me from watching this. So yes, I subscribed. And yay! I just put in 10:50 of watch time for you. My theory is that educational channels need to do *something* weirdly entertaining because viewers just don't respond to high quality information without having it delivered by somebody doing something weird (I just did a "Trademarks and Tabasco" video where I literally drank 2 ounces of tabasco while discussing trademarks). I really hope it isn't the case, and that educational channels just take longer to grow. Again, thank you for the pep talk. It helped.
