      Those stickers are not "bogus". They can refuse to honor warranty if the repairs/modifications are not done at an authorized location. It is stated in the warranty, which you can find and read for yourself before purchasing the product (which you agree to, by purchasing the product). That "example" points to nothing but some tech rant, with no actual basis.

    • @WeEatTheBatman
      @WeEatTheBatman 7 років тому +16

      It's usually based on law, not what the manufacturer tells you. In Australia, for example, they can't refuse to honour a warranty if a sticker is damaged or removed.

    • @Thanoric
      @Thanoric 7 років тому +2

      Warranty is a contract. By US law, you have the right to view the warranty before purchase. After that, your agreeing to it. Even the Motherboard article that goes on it's tirade against this practice states "The statute itself states "for example, a provision in the warranty such as, 'use only an authorized ABC dealer' or 'use only ABC replacement parts,' is prohibited where the service or parts are not provided free of charge pursuant to the warranty." " actually doesn't do shit. Because they DO provide the service for free in the warranty time frame. These lawyers know what they are doing. I personally do not know of Australia and it's laws, but America is intentionally left grey and murky for businesses and other special interests to take advantage of it.

      I under volted Vega64 and I did get cooler temps (45c) but as far as frame rates go, it started to blur. Removing blur, it shuttered. Whereas applying more volts, graphics became better and smoother at the cost of more heat. I used Radeon Software Version 20.10.35.02 with stock clocks at 1630 Mhz. With the cooler block and Afterburner v4.6.215745, ramped up to 1702 Mhz. Temps 55c/60c. My opinion is Vega is just a card that needs high volts.

  • @alastairstedman7840
    @alastairstedman7840 5 років тому +35

    Vega + water block + undervolt = 1700MHz+ even 1750 on core and 1100MHz + on HBM which further widens the gap over 1080 and closes the gap over 1080ti. All while lowering consumption. Come on Jayz you went half effort on this. If You gonna do a water vid do it right. Undervolt/ overvolt full power overclock. The whole shebang. We aren't water cooling just for pretty looks you know.

      @@barrelracer318 I haven't really bothered with a core overclocking much. 1750 is where I am at on my LC edition. Have not changed it. I've just upped the power limit. If you downclock a vega to 1.4ghz you apparently hit the efficiency curve of the 14nm process. Above that (their out of box speeds for example) throw power efficiency out the window. As a result lowering clocks could save A LOT of heat output

      Id rather lose 3-5% fps and run it at half power draw. "why not just get a 1080 then as the power draw on that is so much better." because freesync, application specific overclocking profiles, gpu passthrough for vm's, hbc if you somehow run out of vram, no stupid bridge for crossfire, low power draw of hbm2 allows for vram oc without any aditional powerdraw (.25 amps is nothing), and most importantly, there are way more amd sponsored titles out there right now.
      Also its worth the test, because science.

    Jay, In Wattman if you left click on the actual P-State column header then you can change your clock settings from Max to Min. This changes the behavior of the card to always run at the set speed (min) as opposed to turbo up to the speed setting (max).

    On topic tho: No it's not worth it. Anything that gets you into the 1080TI price range in automatically not worth it. For games the TI will destroy the 64, and for mining you don't care about water cooling your card.
    At current prices Vega it simply a no buy. Unfortunate, especially seeing how good Ryzen is. Oh well.

    • @dxalradoftwgameplay3629

      You could get more hashes by raising clocks for sure. Water blocks will allow more better temperatures for better PC. A custom BIOS would be needed for extreme miners.
      And also don't forget the time GPUs mine for. They don't just mine for a few hours. Days and days of mining take place usually.
      Expect heat to build up.

    Just buy a 1080 or 1080 Ti and call it a day. They are more powerful, use far less power and the custom cards look 100 times better. AMD shouldn't even speculate the new cards anymore, they should just focus on processors and build graphic chips until they make a world shaking breakthrough in technology. As far as I am concerned, they lied to people for 2+ years and lead people on to believe that Vega was going to be a price shattering card that delivers. It did not, not in any way.

    • @jota4658
      @jota4658 7 років тому +9

      Beast6228 its not their fault that miners buy them in truck loads, and retailers bump up the price because of it. when ethereum dies the price will drop and by then aftermarket cards will be here. Also freesink is way cheaper so its worth for me 50 or 100 dollares more for the vega. I have a 970 right now and its still good. But in a year or so i might get a volta navi or one of thid aftermarket vegas

    • @giggyolly
      @giggyolly 7 років тому +1

      Beast6228 you always see cards prices go up when there's little stock. At the moment you can get both the 64 and 56 for msrp in the U.K., I wouldn't personally buy a reference card, but they are there if people want them. If you need an AMD card, the value isn't that bad

    • @Jsfun
      @Jsfun 7 років тому

      +Hugo Olloman They're actually still about £20 over MSRP but yeah they're avaliable at reasonable prices. I just don't want a reference card, waiting for aftermarket, then I'll probs pick it up as an upgrade from the 390X - I have FreeSync monitors so I'm not getting a 1080.

    • @shanekhiu9884
      @shanekhiu9884 7 років тому

      Jamessuperfun you don't even need a freesync monitor. Invest in a good aftermarket 1080Ti and the fps you gain will beat any benefits of a Vega64 + Freesync combo.

    • @Jsfun
      @Jsfun 7 років тому +5

      Shane Khiu I'm well aware of the performance gains, but I'd have significantly worse input lag or tearing based on VSync, or pay to replace them with GSync monitors. FreeSync isn't about low performance systems.
