- The salmon run is finally here on the Betsie River! We came up for the Labor Day weekend with family and decided to extend our trip another week since the fishing was slow hoping to catch ourselves a king salmon. Good thing we did, because we were able to hook a few dozen salmon during our trip and brought some home. We are fairly new to river salmon fishing. This is our second year fishing for salmon on the river and we love it! The thrill and excitement of hooking and chasing these river monsters up and down the river is something to talk about.
On our lines, we are using slinky fishing weight to help drown the sound as it hits the bottom to avoid scaring off the fish. We found that these worked best during our time here. Okuma SST Graphite Spinning Rod with Pfleuger Supreme 40x Spinning Reel, P-Line fluorocarbon 20# test, and a trout bead 3-5" from the hook.

Thank you, we were using a bead. Approximately 6 inch above the hook. Yes we use slinky and pencil weights 3/16 and 1/2 oz. above the leader. Hope you catch some!
Good thing it’s a small sized one. Better than taking a big sized one that is not worth eating. Not snagged either! Leave these spawner alone. Come on.

This isn’t real fishing this is flossing it’s like snagging. The salmon usually swim with there mouth open so when you have that “bead” with a weight that keeps going to in one place they swim right into it. Good fishing but I recommend skein to really catch them proper

Way to name the river in the video. People like you are ruining the fishery, contrasts on your UA-cam fame though! “It’s In the mouth” famous words of dentists.
The Betsie isn’t a mystery. There’s a ton of rivers and creeks with salmon that flow into Lake Michigan. The ones who leave a mess and don’t follow DNR laws/regulations are the ones ruining the fishery. Not a UA-cam video.
Savage Randy the UA-cam video draws in that crowd that leaves trash behind and doesn’t obey the laws and regs. If you didn’t name drop rivers then they wouldn’t be there to leave their trash.
