Growing up in the 80's, The Karate Kid films are some of my favorites, with the original being among my favorite movies of all time. So I was excited and concerned when I heard about this show. And man I was blown away by it. I can honestly say that it's not nostalgia that makes me enjoy this show so much, but the fact that the characters all have such good development. Can't wait for Season 3!
Bro I love the boom in popularity cobra kai is getting right now. I've been watching since close to the premiere on UA-cam at the start. Im really syched to see to more people watching it now. Also great vid Mr. Leach, I pretty much agreed with all your points on the show.
They have done a physical release of both seasons together with a double sided cobra Kai and miyagi do headband but as far as I know its DVD only. Can't wait for your season 2 review!
There is actually a blu-ray for Season 1. I bought it on Amazon. It was an import, I think from Australia, but it is an all region disc. I’m hoping they release the second season the same way.
I liked the Karate Kid movies but I did not love them. At first I had no interest in watching Cobra Kai but once it came to Netflix I said what the hell and gave it a chance and boy I was glad I did. It really is an awesome show after watching both seasons. I think I love the fact that they delve and flesh out Johnny's character because he was always misunderstood but he was always badass. I liked that we got to see how things turned out for Daniel and Johnny years later. I love the role reversals and like a circle of life comes around. Miguel is a like a young Daniel because he gets bullied and has no father figure. Johnny becomes that new father figure in his life and instead of Miguel learning the Miyagi way he learns the Cobra Kai way. Robby who is kinda like a young Johnny at first ends up learning the Miyagi way and kinda becomes like a young Daniel. I love that it mixes that 80's vibe with a modern vibe. After watching both seasons it made me appreciate the movies even more and I can't wait for Season 3!
Now, I've GOTTA' start watching this series! I've read several comments saying that "Johnny is misunderstood" and "Johnny isn't the asshole that we all think he is", things of this nature. It's like, how do you misinterpret the leader of a bunch of bullies, the biggest asshole out of them all? Guess I'll find out when I watch, lol! Btw, I'm not saying anybody's wrong, after all, I haven't seen the series, y'all have. So, it'll be very interesting to find out, lol!
BEST SERIES GOING MAN!!! I remember saying to you a couple years ago about watching this. Karate Kid is my fave franchise along with Rocky but Cobra Kai is fuckin quality man! William Zabka is class and he is such a good actor. Can't wait for your Season 2 review Cody! All the best bud! 🤘
I’m happy you reviewed this series I was about to request it before I seen the notification. I enjoyed the first 2 seasons on UA-cam as well and am glad the show was picked up by Netflix and receiving a 3rd season. Keep doing what you’re doing man.
Ever since this show blew up after going to Netflix all of us Day 1 OGs are like Mr. Miyagi showing all the Netflix noobs the way of this GREAT series. I'm helping my noob friends fill in the blanks because I've binge watched the whole series 4 times & before season 2 came out had seen season 1 three times.
At first I was slightly disappointed that Johnny was so bitter from his defeat to Daniel still after saying “You’re okay LaRusso” at the end of the first movie. That soon disappeared watching the first season. Johnny is a great character. He’s conflicted. He’s a real character. He makes mistakes but he also improves as a person. He’s fascinating to watch.
LOVED this been a huge fan (an I never thought I would be) of this series and was a treat for the wife and I to get your thoughts. An yes we thought this would be trash for each and every reason why you mentioned...lol. So glad we an many more were so wrong.
I had no idea it was on Netflix now. I wanted to watch this but not pay for UA-cam just for it. Thanks for this video. Going to go check this out now on Netflix. :)
I agree that it does feel like their evolution feels like it comes too fast, but I also feel like Danny's training from wax-on wax off to having the ability to apply it to karate defense is rushed in the movie too. If these things were given realistic timing, it would serve very little but to make the pacing of the show more dull than it needs to be.
Love the show, but pissed S3 has been delayed around the year despite it being done a long time ago. Has nothing to do with Covid, just marketing. I get it, but damn..
Exactly. Us OGs have already been anxiously awaiting season 3 for a year & now we've gotta wait almost another year for it so the Netflix general audience can catch up
Much agreed with your whole review. Being a fan of the original, this one pretty much brought a modern flavor with a deep nostalgia. It stays the same with its cheesiness and teen drama. Also I agree on the rushed character development, especially Robby's. I love the flashback scenes + 80s music, just sends me waaay back. Just for that I will watch on. Thanks, pleasure to watch as always!
Ever since Cobra Kai series came out you see Johnny in a different light and honestly he’s not the asshole that people think he is I have faith in him I feel like he’s gonna come around
I hated how they changed the out come of the tournament. The whole change it for Daniel being the bully the whole time just sucked. But I love the the return of Daniel and Johnny and love the slight juvenile pranks they do to each other.
I recently watched the original Karate Kid movie and I cringed the whole time. However, I am surprised how much I enjoyed Cobra Kai (my 11 year old asked me to watch it with him). The Johnny/Daniel bonding episode was pretty funny. I do agree that the teenager “love” drama was ridiculous and over the top.
Love it love it, love it. Big fan of original karate kid, it's what got me started doing karate years ago. Cobra Kai , is an amazing show, I'm a super fan!
Honestly my only negative is the kid who plays Robby. For some reason he just seems really dull in comparison to everyone else. He just doesn't radiate much personality
So true both my girls got into it we all watched it together and they never wanna watch shows. One saw the Karate kid and the other didn't and they both really were into Cobra Kai regardless!
I watch alot of your content and don't often leave comments, shame on me I know! Anyway, I agree with absolutely every Positive and the 2 minor Negatives. When I first heard of Cobra Kai, I was like meh this will be awful and i didn't bother with it and no one I know mentioned it once when it was on UA-cam Red I believe. Now tho as its on Netflix Suddenly everyone I know is raving about it and i had to try it. Holy shit!!! It's absolutely Brilliant and it takes me right back to wanting to be Johnny Lawrence, Daniel Son was to soft, I love the Villans in films!!! The modern Teeny Social media stuff does grate a bit, but overall its a Brilliant Series and throwback to original Classic Movie. I'm onto Season 2 now, a few episodes in and it's really good so far. Absolutely Top Notch Review 👍 Strike First Strike Hard No Mercy!!! Cobra Kai Never Dies!!!
After only a few few minutes(possibly seconds) of the first episode, the hooks were in and it was Bad Ass. Funny how Netflix got the show but Hulu has the 3 movies lol. 🤘
I loved the show and I felt exact same way about rushed training and in other seasons fight conclusion. In anime they could 5 episode on one fight alone
Absolutely love the first season, I watched it like 6 times lol. Season 2 was good but it didn’t have the shock factor that season 1 had by just being the surprise hit that it was. I agree with your negatives btw, won’t name them off so I don’t spoil anything but yeah there were some moments where I was like I think they’re going too far... but I still ended season 1 with a big smile on my face as I was completely impressed by the show.
William zabka who plays johnny was in hot tube time machine for a few mins. And he was in a made for tv horror film with robert englund called python. And its actually really good besides the shitty effects. Check it out cody if you can find it
Too much nostalgia for me, had to stop watching it after season one, gonna give it a week or two now before i hit season two up, was one of my favourite movies as a kid so much so i did karate from the age of 8 until 23. But I've lost so much since then and am not in a good place mentally for such an overdose of nostalgia. I enjoyed it though, but i guess im stuck in the 80s, just like Johnny.
Love the movie series, never even considered this series. May have to change the second part! Especially to find out why Daniel and Johnny are on opposite sides, again! Daniel dusted Johnny(although Johnny more than held his own), earned his respect, though after the beginning of part 2, The Kai are never shown, again, so you never find out if Daniel and them actually became friends. For cryin' out loud, even that aggravating prick Tommy agreed with Mr. Miyagi! Though, it does help that Johnny was literally in Kreese's clutches at the time.....RIP to Tommy's actor, name escapes me.
I love the original karate kid but it’s not one of my favorite movies or anything so going into the show I didn’t know what to expect but I came out loving it more than I loved the original
I guess that means Cody now is endorsing NETFLIX, the streaming service that provides KIDDY PORN and panders to sick pedos and other sicko freaks. I too loved both seasons of Cobra Kai and was so looking forward to season 3. However, I man with principles and cancelled my Netflix services.
@@CodyLeachYT oh i thought it was just something that like happened automatically sorry to hassle you man! Didn't know how that worked. oh can you PLEASE review The Exorcist"? I would love your take on it.
I love the first two Karate Kid movies. I do not like Karate Kid 3 though. The third movie, the Karate Kid formula was not as good in this movie. This series was great. I love all the characters. Demetri was the only character I hated. He was annoying. I wanted him to stand up for himself and stop being such a wimp.
I thought season two was hands-down the best I thought it had so much more character development and it’s one of the more watchable seasons. Plus the very last episode had me in complete shock when Miguel got badly injured and there’s rumors that there’s a possibility that he might make it or Ali might end up saving his life plus if she does come back I think that would be awesome.

I literally started watching this last night

It was one of the most pleasant surprises I've ever had

Karate Kid is one of my biggest favorites of all time and this show compliments the original stories perfectly.
My 2nd favorite Netflix show!
What’s number 1?
Rooster McScratch Stranger Things
Me too. Except 1 for me is Daredevil. It's weird thinking of it as a Netflix show now.

I'd love it if you covered some of the older Karate Kid movies, whether it's the first movie, 2, 3, or the Jackie Chan remake.
