    I entertained the idea of selling my 05 xb that I have had for 10 years. But I kept it and bought a truck that I could afford so I could keep it. So glad I did. The reliability, the room, the fuel economy, the ease of driving, getting in and out is easy as I begin to age. I have taken care of this car so its still in great condition. I dont let my wife drive because she is rough on cars. She needs a tank that can handle her abuse and the xb is no tank. But I still love it!

    Hello, I have a 2006 Scion Xb with 450,000 miles on it. It still runs but for now its sitting in my front yard and is non operational. Its so hard to put into words about how I feel about this car but I will try. I purchased it brand new for 14750 dollars and it was worth every penny. It was there for my family as we watched our kids grow it has been there for my business to support us it was there for my wife's sister and brother in law when they lost everything and they used it for over a year. It was their only car and it did everything for them. It was there to take me to see my mom before she passed away. It was there to take me to the fishing trips with my best frie d before he passed away. So many baseball and football games for my son. Gymnastics and Diving for my daughter. Most reasently I was able to pick up my little Husky Brees. There have been so many more memories that that car has been a part of so when people say why don't you just get rid of it they just don't understand. For now she is wayting in my driveway for a new heart.
    So that is what she means to me.
    Thank you for the video. It really brought back a lot of memories

    I have never related to a video about a car like THIS before.
    I will never be able to willingly let go of my 06 first-gen xB. Salsa red, the car still looks brand new. This car drove me through almost every transformation of my life, and everything in between. I took this car all over the place. I got married halfway across the country and this is the car I did it in. I bought and sold and moved 3 homes while I’ve had this car. I brought my son home from the hospital in this car. I had to drive my 13 year old dog to be put to sleep in this car. I replaced it in 2015 with a 2015 Honda Fit, but I kept it because it owed me nothing, and was reliable AF. 10 months later, the Fit failed (look up the first Fits that came out of Mexico) and drove this car for the year it took to lemon law that POS. It sat for 10 months and jump-started right up and went as if it didn’t sit). Then I got the Crosstour, but still kept it. A year after that.... I filed for divorce in early 2018. I had to get this car, which had sat for a little over a year again - outside - and it jump started right up and I drove it an hour to my apartment. I then drove it Tuesday’s and Thursday’s to work. 9 months later, in 9/2018 my boyfriends car got totaled outside the school he worked at. Based on the financial state I was left in with my divorce, we just added him to my policy and he’s been driving my xB since.
    It’s about 1500 miles away from hitting 200k miles, and it’s the car we take 4 hours to New Jersey every other weekend. In my ownership, I’ve only had to replace one fuel injector (I replaced all 4 since they were already in there), a radiator, the air conditioning compressor, and one ignition coil pack. Considering I’ve never ever babied or been gentle in any way with this car, it’s been a maintenance dream. The only bitch was the trunk opener in the back, but only one side broke and I super glued that 2 years ago and it’s still holding as I am super gentle on the openings now. Plus, with the things I’ve replaced, I feel confident I’ll get another 150k out of it. I did flush the transmission at 170k miles, and it’s smooth as butter for a 13 year old original auto transmission. Not one leak anywhere, no smoke, it’s as good as when it was new. It’s never been a silent car, but it’s recognizable xB sound has not changed.
    Keep the xB. Keep the memories. Make more memories. I’ll never let mine go willingly. My ex tried to get it from me in the divorce, and I fought him harder on the xB than any of the other property.

      I have a black 2004 xb. Bought a year ago. The previous owner didn’t care that well for it so I had to put some work into it. It’s a phenomenal car. It’s taken me to five states and 18k miles of driving faithfully. I’ve turned it into a game to see what I can haul with it. I’m hanging onto it.

    • @troyminer7
      @troyminer7 5 років тому

      djkenny holy crap $15,000 USD? That’s a steal and a half, I’d find a way to finance or something. Sticker price for my brand new Sport manual with no options was $20,235. Manual non-crossovers aren’t exactly in demand so I walked out at about $18,500. Sounds super expensive compared to yours though. I pay about $300 a month, can’t remember for how long. But not bad though I also ended up getting a extended warranty for I think $3000.
      Wonderful car, I use it instead of a tent to sleep in when I’m camping and you can absolutely hustle through corners.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 5 років тому

      WOW. They totally ripped you with that warranty ??? I would only get an extended warranty on a luxury brandEuro car. I can't see 3 grand in repairs in 100k miles. Just won't happen. Regardless, a Sport Touring 2.3 liter model is 20 grand at our local dealer. The manual basic 2 liter is under 16 grand. I am debating one of these or a 30k mile 2015 Scion XB manual for just a little over $9500. @@troyminer7

    • @troyminer7
      @troyminer7 5 років тому

      djkenny you know what’s funny, I actually called the warranty services to figure out how much I paid for it, the warranty was $828. I have NO CLUE how I got 3 grand lol!
      The new ones are a 2.5, not a 2.3. Regardless, get the 2.0. More rev happy and better mpg. I’d get the 3 over the xB, though it depends what you’re looking for. The 3 is way better to drive, though the xB is more unique!

  • @N1RKW
    @N1RKW 5 років тому +12

    I had a 2001 Toyota Echo, which shared its platform with the xB. I absolutely loved everything about that car, even the weirdly but effectively placed center-mounted gauge cluster. I'm 6' 1" and quite heavy, yet I always had enough head and leg room in that car. Shoulder room not so much, especially with another guy about my size riding shotgun. The car's performance was nothing spectacular, but it was definitely lots of fun to drive. We finally ended up replacing it when it started running on 3 cylinders at about 190,000 miles, but I still sometimes fondly remember driving the little green Echo my son named, "Jumbo".
    Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

    • @N1RKW
      @N1RKW 5 років тому +3

      That particular engine was beat heavily by the previous owner (young student), including towing with it! (he even had to replace the manual transmission!) On the whole, the Toyota 1.5L engine is a very solid and well engineered motor, and I've heard of many people getting 250K out of theirs. With good maintenance, I suspect that yours will last that long as well. Enjoy your Yaris, they're great little cars.

    You are so right about the 05 xB being a "living" storybook. I bought mine new and drove it 450 miles to visit with mother and my father who was battling cancer. He loved it...calling it alternately "The Toaster" and "The Cracker Box". His enjoyment of being ferried around it before he passed away is a wonderful chapter in my Scion's Book of Life. She's got 250k miles on her and still going strong. She's one of the most reliable cars I've ever known. I would never willingly part with her. I'm planning to get her custom wrapped so she'll look like the TARDIS from Dr. Who.

    Just finished doing basic maintenance to my son's 2006 xB or Xbox as I also call it! My son is moving from south Florida to Bermingham, AL next week and I could not have greater peace. I have always worked and fixed my own cars because that is how my Dad taught me. After working on some basic things to prep it for the 800+ mile trip, me and my Dad have found a whole new appreciation for this toaster. It should not leave me speechless to see the high level of engineering put into these affordable Japaneese jewels. They are sooooo! smart because they use a lot of parts to build a Scion as they do to build a Lexus. I have owned both of these in the past. The amount of detail into it's engineering helps make these cars so reliable. GENIEUS !! I think I'm going to buy it back from my son when he is done with college. YES! I'm paying for it twice. I know It's really dumb but that is how much I like that car. Enjoy Xboxers! They don't make them like this anymore!!

    Not my XB Yet but it’s my moms. She bought it back in 2016ish and when she got it, it was in a Honda lot and a 1 owner car, it had about 160k Miles on the clock. She’s Racked up over 260k miles from, Door dash and just plain old daily commutes, We took it on road trips, it’s been hit with a gate, and it has recently been part of our move to Tennessee. It rode 1,000+ miles on the back of a trailer. It’s seen things, more things then some people have seen in there entire life. I hope it lasts a long time so my kids can experience the toaster, and there kids. I just wish things like it can last forever… But unfortunately not everything can… With Laws on smaller vehicles changing and sizes of other cars getting larger.. Soon the toaster might not be “safe” on the road, It’s and unfortunate thing that happens but these things happen no matter what… I wish that some day My kids can hold the keys of this magnificent machine.

    Omg same 2010 i got my silver scion xb from lawton oklahoma, 3years in army and finally had gotten married in 2010 so my first car was old faithful xb because it lasted longer than my marriage of 6yrs it saw us and helped us move to WA state until we seperated and she kept the car then we got bacl together and she brought car back from our LA hometown. It was even stolen in new years 2015 like who steals these cars? 2months later i got it back and still running greatly and have so many plans at 230k miles have done minimal work like head gaskets, and normal battery and alternator changing along with tires and recently did all new suspension axles, bushings, struts, control arm main reason because wen it was stolen frame was bent and took me years to find someone to fix and good as new, well sorta lol definetly keeping it in in the longer run lol

    That was beautiful. Congrats. Well, I believe that cars dont have memories, but they are the incarnation of our memories, since we connect them with our car's dents and scratches. We connect the memory with the visual outcome, so we end up saying that the car is the memory. Anyway, I am over-analyzing here, I get what you mean, beautifully written and shot, you made me feel and remember. Boy , if my 1998 Corolla could talk. Also, poor little xB. Designed for the youth, but used by the elders, mocked for its shape, a reliable everyday hero that unwantedly end up the symbol of "millenials dont care about cars" and "why people like weird cars". I love those forgotten commuters that still do their job -this is why I like your videos. xB is mocked now, but it will achieve a unicorn status in a couple of years, representing an era, just like old Corollas and Accords now. Keep up the good work. See you around

      Thanks so much for the kind words. Thanks for watching. Yeah the 1st gen xB is what allowed the Scion brand to really take off, but you're right the marketing didn't match the majority of people who bought the things. They're at the bottom of the market right now-I think mine is probably worth around $2k if I'm lucky. I give it another 5-10 years and people will start to have nostalgia for these weird boxes on wheels!

    this hit home for me really hard, I own an 04 Xb that i've had since 2007, I have had breakups, camping trips, concerts, roadtrips, new relationships, and even marriage, in that car. in march my engine blew up on the highway, i got it towed to my local speedee oil to find out the engine had a cracked block at only 178K, I was devastated...I have never cried so hard for a machine...my Xb was a part of me. to this day it sits a few blocks from my house. I have plans to tow it home and one day replace the engine. thank you for this video. This video helped me give much more respect to this car that I always seemed to hate on. I've been thinking about what my first car is going to be and I already knew it was going to be a used one. But I still want something unique and affordable and practical. I just never would've guessed the answer to that question was the ugly Scion Cube that has been in front of me all these years. Also, even though I don't drive yet, I understand. The reason why we put so much effort and passion into a machine isn't just because we need to get from one place to another but because of the memories made along the way. A car can be an extension of who you are as a person and a vessel for your hopes and dreams. And to think that I was denying that to myself for so long with the xB.😅🚙

    That was beautiful man. Its true vehicles are just transportation, they are vessels that carry us from one time in life to another with all the highs and lows. The cars don't have memories but are the scenes of so many of ours. I recently wrote a fb tribute to an 03 Dodge Caravan we had for 11 years. Car seats to learners permits, flowers trays, airport luggage, funerals, Florida and first days on the job. Vehicles become the unwitting and uncredited backdrop to our lives most important moments. I'm glad you made this video. Thanks.

    I love the cockpit/gauge design, so nicely done. You can fit a TON of stuff in the back with the seats down, have moved several large art installations around in ours and enough lumber for a complete stage set (almost broke the roof that time). Only downside is the road noise is super loud and the stock sound system can't even compete with it, frustrates me to this day. Throw on a roof rack and its even worse.

    • @HelloRoad
      @HelloRoad  5 років тому

      I have the exact same likes and dislikes about the car. Love, love the space. And even today, 13 years later, the dashboard layout still looks modern. But you're right, road noise is rough. Also it could be geared a bit differently-revs pretty high on the freeway which kills MPG at 70mph +. Seats are not that comfortable for long trips either. But overall my complaints are pretty minor!

    Recently had to part with a car I’ve also had since 2005. ‘05 Civic, had over 300k on her, loved it to death( literally) and had so many memories with it. But it started getting old, went through about 3 of 4 spark plugs in 2 months, a year ago the power steering pump failed, and the engine mounts were starting to wear. So the time came about a week ago, sold it to the junkyard, and ever since I’ve been in the biggest dump in my life. I feel ya bro😢

    The xB is the finest car designed by man! I bought my 2006 brand new and just replaced the front brakes last week with 116k on the clock. Outside of oil changes nothing has broken and it runs and drives just like it did on day one. I definitely believe that if I can keep corrosion at bay I won't need to buy another car my lifetime. If you have the money buy one you won't regret it. This beasts denies some physics law because it is bigger on the inside than the outside.

    So far, the xB is about as close as the Human race has come to creating an actual TARDIS...
    ....especially the blue ones!
    I know how you feel about a car becoming more than a mere pile of sheet metal, bolts, rubber, plastic, fabric, gears and other mechanical bits and bobs, and becoming part of the family
    The first car I truly loved was my ‘92 Fire Red Dodge Shadow America, 2 door notchback with 5 speed manual and 2.2l four cylinder, I still miss it to this day, wish I kept it
    My other loved car was my ‘07 Sage Green VW Rabbit with the five cylinder 2.5, and 5 speed manual, I owned that one the longest (7 years) and it also hurt to sell that one, it was replaced with a ‘11 Honda Element, loved the car, hated the sludge box transmission though, it died saving me from a car crash, and I replaced it with a ‘12 VW Golf TDI, that I hope to get 400,000+ miles off before I have to do any major work, it feels good to be back in a VW again, it’s not my Rabbit, but it’s close, almost as good, definitely feels more a part of the family than the Element did...
