The 3rd speed of the blower switch on my '06 GMC K1500 has not worked for a couple of months and last week it completely quit. I'm so glad that I googled "blower switch" and came upon your video before I wasted my small pension on a dealer only blower control switch. I'll now order the resistor and save your video for my husband's benefit. I might even install it myself. Thank you so much and have a great week! Andrea

JUST FINISHED THE JOB AND WITHOUT YOUR VIDEO POST I AM SURE IT WOULD NOT HAVE GONE AS WELL. MANY BLOGS OUT ON HOW TO DO THIS JOB BUT YOUR VIDEO IS A LIFE SAVER. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR WORK.
I bought the part from 1AAuto , watched the youtube video, & 30 minutes later it was fixed. My fan had low air output on 1-4. And #5 blew ( or didn't blow) whenever it felt like. Now everything works great! Thanks!!!
Thanks. This helped me save $260. Part cost me $40. The dealer wanted $300. This took like 30 mins to install. The most difficult part was getting the cover back on.
Thank you for the help, The 3 levels of speeds of the fan wasn't a concern of mine then #4 and #5 acted up and were not working all the time and thought this could be a costly repair to my truck. The truck has 241,000 miles on it and sometimes wonder if it's worth repairing. When I pulled up this video it showed me exactly what was happening to the truck and with a little help from this video I was able to repair this at a low cost!! The tutorial was very precise and helpful to make this a quick fix. Thanks again and I have used this site and will continue to use this for future repairs!!
Used this video to work on a 2006 Chevy Tahoe Z71. only real difference was that 2 bolts removed the cover 90% and the resistor was right up front to the right. no other screws or bolts removed. Do be sure when you order your part, know what hole line up yours takes. i got mine for $25 but holes were a little off. For $55 i could get same part with correct holes. I secured it and it works just fine. Thanks for the great video!!!
Replacement worked exactly as described. My '01 Silverado has only had fan speed "5" working for years. Had an auto electrics specialist tell me to "just get a new a/c control panel. About $100 for parts, plus labor." Your video has me up and running for under $25. If I wasn't hitting the hiway tomorrow, I would have bought my resistor from you. You've earned my respect, and I'll make sure I check you first next time I'm diagnosing a problem with my truck. Again, many thanks!!
+Rex Anderson Thank you for your order. If you would like to leave us a review on Google it would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to our reviews section. Have a great day! goo.gl/i5JFNY
This video was awesome! I watched it once, bought the part (it arrived 2 days later.-Thank You) and did the install this morning on my wifes 2002 tahoe. She will be pleasantly surprised on her ride to work tomorrow. thanks again.
+nicksdad nicksdad We love to hear that our videos are helping people get the repair done! That's our main goal. Great work, and thanks for checking us out. THANK YOU so much for posting step-by-step DIY repair videos for us novices. With winter about here, the heater fan in my 2005 Sierra 1500 (with 88k miles) quit altogether [after the 5th speed setting quit weeks ago] so, I have a feeling, it's the Fan Speed Control Blower Motor Resistor . In Oct. '11, when the Check Engine icon lit up on the dashboard, my Abeloff GMC Dealership charged me $88. to find out the EVAP is leaking and the heater blower speed 5 quit.
Replace both; the resistor block and the connector coming into that block (5? or 7) wires. They both overheat and melt the plastic around the pins, causing them to loose contact. Great video, thanks for taking the time!
Thanks alot for the help! The resistor I took off was the 2 hole and it didn’t match to so the previous owner screwed the driver side screw in first and then used a 1.5” ish wood screw to hold the other side in. Oh well! Go with the flow! It works! Very good directions!

@TheMan16111 It it's a 2003 GMC Sierra truck the blower motor resistor removal process would be the same as shown in this video. What series is the Sierra?
Thank you for the comprehensive video! This looks very helpful and actually makes it look like this could be easy enough for us to do ourselves instead of taking it to the dealer. We've lost our bottom four speeds on our 2001 GMC sierra z71 blower. Would love to have this be a relatively inexpensive repair!!
I have a 2001 yukon xl that was only working on stage 5. I ordered the part from 1aauto and followed this video and minus one difference in screws that held the decorative cover on, it was perfect. Thanks so much! BTW.. I found that a 9/32 would work in place of the 7mm socket as I didn't have one. I also found the deep socket to be of great help in the "hidden" bolt that in my case, was also behind the center console tape player and no fun to get at.

Normally an issue like that would be the resistor but the best bet would be to check the resistor to see what sort of voltage is going to the unit at the different blower motor settings to check and make sure that is the issue.
@ncrdisabled I don't have a venture right now to do a video. The resistor on your venture is probably located in about the same spot as it is on the truck in this video. The procedure is probably about the same as well.
@TheMan16111 It sounds like the blower motor resistor may have gone bad. Usually when they go bad you start to lose the lower speed settings. Hope this helps you out.
1A Auto Thank you so much for making this video, my fan just stop working on my truck, and I'm going to do what you showed on this video. And if I need parts, I will get it from 1A Auto. Thank you
@22matthewlewis That would either be a door actuator issue, or even a loose, disconnected or broke vacuum line. I would check all of the vacuum lines first to see if any have come disconnected.
It sounds like when the repair was made something was hooked up backwards. You may want to re-check the connections and possibly try to reverse this to see if it will solve the situation that you are having.
@Toasty504 This is usually the problem if you fan does not work on all speeds. The trailblazer may be a little different in getting to the resistor and its' location.
@Nighthawke70 I would check with making sure the fuse is good, and that there's also power to the blower motor resistor and also the blower motor. If you noticed that the speeds began to not work on the AC control that's typically the sign of a resistor going bad. If it just stopped blowing air all together than the blower motor could be the culprit.
Thanks for the video. I was able to change my resistor (2005 Yukon) in less than 1 hour. I didn't/couldn't have to take out the center screw on the outer casing. I took out all but and pulled down the plastic. Just remember the 2005 Yukon has the 4 hole version of the resistor (costs $25 more).
Usually when the blower motor resistor goes bad you'll start to loose the lower settings. Not sure what series your Silverado is but here's a link to the blower motor resistor section for a 1500 on our website. If the blower is not blowing hard enough, either there is an issue with a blockage in the HVAC system or it could be an issue with the motor/resistor causing it to blow slow.
@TheMan16111 This video should help you out. Here's a link to the blower motor resistors on our website for your truck. There seems to be a few different types that fit that vehicle. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com/1A/BlowerMotorResistor/GMC/Sierra1500/-/-/2003?ATony

2006 GMC Sierra. #5 stopped working (might have been a fuse I guess, never checked). Now 1-4 stops working intermittently. I fiddle with where it plugs in, and 1-4 usually starts working again. Is the problem ever the plug itself that plugs into the resistor????
This video was exactly what I was looking for! I will be ordering and replacing in my 04 Silverado. Also my setting dial doesn't work so it will only blow out of the defroster. Have you made any videos for that or any advice for me to fix it? Not a problem I've ever dealt with before. Thanks!
The actuator for the blend door could be bad, or if it happens when the AC is on you may need to re-charge the AC system. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
You may want to see if the thermostat's working correctly. You could also have an air pocket in the cooling system which may be getting trapped. If the heat isn't blowing from the blower motor, check the blower motor and the blower motor resistor to see if they have power going to them. We sell new blower motors and resistors on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393 if you end up needing to replace one of them. Hope this helps you out.

Great video, I followed your instructions and everything went well, however, the plug is melted, do you know what it is called or the part number ? I have a 2005 silverado 1500 I would appreciate it thank you.. If you have this part what is the cost w/ shipping ?
Great video! I was able to do this job on my own fairly easily. However, I have noticed my speeds have started to go away, again. If I replaced the resistor, do I now need to replace the blower motor? And if that is the case, will I need to replace the resistor again? Thanks!
Typically the blower motor resistor controls the speeds. You may want to check the plug end that connects to the blower motor resistor to see if it is damaged from being overheated. If it is, you should change the plug end. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
Another well explained video on this model truck! Thanks 1Aauto!! You have help me learn and do so much on my truck vs other videos where I'd be guessing much more lol
My 2001 lost high speed only. I had no power at "Terminal “G” Orange with ignition on, as its supposed to receive constant power from hvac 30 amp fuse under hood. the fuse tested good, so i pulled the fuse block out and followed the two fat orange wires, the burnt one will be obvious, cut and add wire to hard wire to positive bolt, then add a 30 amp inline fuse inside the cab. black out the fuse location. Finally high speed a/c
Can you show how to replace a resistor pack on a 2003 chevy venture . Mine has a problem that the 3 rd position does not work on the blower fan and I was told the resistor pack is going bad but I do not know where it is or how to get to it. Thanks great videos
If you are only getting one speed is it the resistor always? Or is the blower bad too? On my 2000 Silverado It only worked on 5, and then completely stopped working. Should I start with the resistor and then possibly the blower, or is my blower shot?
Hey thanks for the video! I just purchased a ac control module from 1A auto for my 2005 gmc sierra 2500hd. but I was curious if you knew where I can't get a wiring diagram for the system? Due to the previous owner installed a toggle switch running under the dash to two wires and when you flip the toggle switch the AC turns on but I don't like to have it rigged that way that is why I purchased the new module
@1aauto Good info in the vid. I have a 1999 and the location of the fan resistor in behind the glovebox. Took me a long time to locate it but I manage to get it replace and all is well.. Thanks!!
Hi I have a 2004 GMC 2500hd the fan only works on 5 now would this be the same procedure form my truck , The video was spot on I plan on fixing in the spring cause it's COLD out can I get the part from your site , Thanks
Hello I have a 07 Chevy Silverado 2500 (new body style) auto hvac control, is there much difference between the 5 speeds. Speeds 1/2/3 seem very weak speed 4+ 5 are very noticeably different. This seemed two occur after changing the 2 batteries. By chance does the control need a recalibrate or is it just the resistor pak. Thank You
@faithchurch1 If all of that's fine it could be the (DRL) relay. Here's a link to them on our website. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com/1A/Electrical/GMC/Yukon/-/-/2001?page=3&&ATony
What exactly are those big covers called underneath? My truck didn't have them when i bought it so id like to replace them. Can't find them anywhere online. I have a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500.
@1aauto Hi I have a 2003 Sierra and mine fan only really works on setting 5, it works on the other settings but when you change the speed setting there is no noticeable change in speed so would it be this or the blower motor resistor? And is there any way to test the resistor to see if it is the problem? Thank you for your service of putting up these videos. Also could you send me a link for the part from your website for which one I would need. Because I am having trouble finding one.
Great Video, I have a 2003 chevy avalanche 1500. For the last 2 weeks the blower motor would make a surging or pulsing sound when on any of the speeds. Then today the blower won't turn on at all. Do you think it is the blower resister or the motor itself?
Great video... now I know what to do...My 2002 Silverado ac doesn't work on speed 2 ..Now I'm going to buy the resister and replace it myself...would have cost me over $400 bucks at the dealer!
You may want to check the freon level to see if it needs to be charged, also check to see if the AC clutch is working properly when the AC is on in the cab. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
My 1990 GMC V2500 suburban is having heater issues. The heat doesn't come on at all but as I am driving and the truck warms up I can feel (a trickle) of warm air with no force behind it. are their any tests that you know of to see which part in bad besides just ripping it apart and checking piece by piece?
It could be a bad connection to the blower motor. You may want to check the connection to the motor to see if it's connected right, ans also if there are any signs that is has heated up. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Actually you turned the resistor 180 from how the original was installed--you can see with the 2 side by side that the cable is coming out the other side. Anyway thanks for the help, my blower randomly stayed on after lunch today resulting in a dead battery, and this is what I need to do.
Just did my Ford Escape a few days ago and Papa says his 2005 GMC does not blow on 5. So am here to check out location. All blower levels work off of same resistor correct??? I mean to say it does not matter which # it does not blow on they are the same resistor? Thanks.
I changed my blower motor resistor in my 05 Trailblazer and all speeds worked, but after a few hours only speed 5 works? Should I replace the blower motor itself or could it be the fan speed control resistor/switch?
You may want to check the wiring harness for damage, and also see if there's power going to the blower motor resistor when the lower speed settings are selected. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Hello, I have a 2006 GMC sierra. Currently all levels of heat work however when warmed up there is an Oder like some wire burning. At times when I listen closely I hear the levels on the blower go weak. Could this be the resister or the blower motor?

@TheMan16111 This video should help you out. Here's a link to the blower motor resistors on our website for your truck. There seems to be a few different types that fit that vehicle. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com/1A/BlowerMotorResistor/GMC/Sierra1500/-/-/2003?ATony
@Nighthawke70 It could be a loose wire or ground somewhere if it's an intermittent issue.
Usually when the blower motor resistor fails, you'll typically start to lose the lower speeds. Here's a link to them on our website if you would like to take a look at them. 1aauto.com/1A/BlowerMotorResistor/Chevy/Silverado1500/-/-/1999?ATony
There's a link in the video to the part shown. If you click on it, you can purchase it on our website. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
You may want to check the blower motor resistor to see if it's acting up.
Great video! Helped me a lot. Not to tell you what to do but it would also be a good idea to clean the duct and replace the cabin air filer too.
You may want to check the blower motor resistor.
@boominator6464 We currently do not have a video on this vehicle. It may be a similar process.
2006 GMC Sierra. #5 stopped working (might have been a fuse I guess, never checked). Now 1-4 stops working intermittently. I fiddle with where it plugs in, and 1-4 usually starts working again. Is the problem ever the plug itself that plugs into the resistor????
You might be able to get a new knob from the dealer or salvage yard.
Thank you!!! This video help me replace this part on my 03 suburban. saved me tons of money
You could take the blower motor out to see if there are any leaves of pieces of debris that have found their way into there.
@baldpecker66 More than likely it's the blower motor resistor.
Going to be doing this over the Christmas Weekend. Thanks for the awesome video.
+MrD Poling Thanks for watching. We carry the replacement blower motor resistor shown in this video on our website. We also offer free shipping on all orders in the lower 48 states. Here's a link to them in case any of our viewers need to replace theirs. Happy holidays 1aauto. www.1aauto.com/blower-motor-resistor/i/1ahbr00009?UA-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony
Great video, I followed your instructions and everything went well, however, the plug is melted, do you know what it is called
or the part number ? I have a 2005 silverado 1500 I would appreciate it thank you.. If you have this part what is the cost
w/ shipping ?
Great video! I was able to do this job on my own fairly easily. However, I have noticed my speeds have started to go away, again. If I replaced the resistor, do I now need to replace the blower motor? And if that is the case, will I need to replace the resistor again?
Thanks!
Typically the blower motor resistor controls the speeds. You may want to check the plug end that connects to the blower motor resistor to see if it is damaged from being overheated. If it is, you should change the plug end. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
1A Auto Parts where does one obtain that plug end?
Another well explained video on this model truck! Thanks 1Aauto!! You have help me learn and do so much on my truck vs other videos where I'd be guessing much more lol
Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Keith Lavallee no video? Lol mine also won't blow on 5
Thank you excellent info. have a 2005 sierra fan would only work on 5 then just stopped. watched video replaced blower motor resistor and its fixed
Thank you for watching. Please let us know how the repair comes out!

Can you show how to replace a resistor pack on a 2003 chevy venture . Mine has a problem that the 3 rd position does not work on the blower fan and I was told the resistor pack is going bad but I do not know where it is or how to get to it.
Thanks great videos
It may be a bad blower motor resistor.
If you are only getting one speed is it the resistor always? Or is the blower bad too? On my 2000 Silverado It only worked on 5, and then completely stopped working. Should I start with the resistor and then possibly the blower, or is my blower shot?
Usually when that happens it's the sign of the blower motor resistor going bad. We sell new ones on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
@mobius012 Yes then is more than likely is a bad resistor.
It should be very similar of the same as shown in the video.
It sounds like it could be the blower motor resistor that may be acting up.
@1aauto Good info in the vid. I have a 1999 and the location of the fan resistor in behind the glovebox. Took me a long time to locate it but I manage to get it replace and all is well.. Thanks!!
@1aauto Would you believe that it started to operate again that evening? I checked the fuses and controls, nothing noted that would inhibit it.
Hi I have a 2004 GMC 2500hd the fan only works on 5 now would this be the same procedure form my truck , The video was spot on I plan on fixing in the spring cause it's COLD out can I get the part from your site , Thanks
Hello
I have a 07 Chevy Silverado 2500 (new body style) auto hvac control, is there much difference between the 5 speeds.
Thanks for the video. It sure made fixing this issue easy.
Your videos are extremely helpful. Thank you for all your hard work.
Thanks.
More than likely the blower motor resistor has gone bad. Usually that's why you start to loose the speed settings. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
best demo so far ty
Hey do I have to tear apart the dash to replace that 5 pin relay ...I can't seem to find it
I changed my blower motor resistor in my 05 Trailblazer and all speeds worked, but after a few hours only speed 5 works? Should I replace the blower motor itself or could it be the fan speed control resistor/switch?
You may want to check the wiring harness for damage, and also see if there's power going to the blower motor resistor when the lower speed settings are selected. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Hello, I have a 2006 GMC sierra. Currently all levels of heat work however when warmed up there is an Oder like some wire burning. At times when I listen closely I hear the levels on the blower go weak. Could this be the resister or the blower motor?
