Could be. Dire Straits debuted in the same year as Disco reached its height in 1978. But the monotonous disco influence (Michael Jackson, Donna Summer etc) was still so potent it killed off a lot of other music until the mid-1980s. Strong rock bands like Dire Straits, Jethro Tull and Roxy Music were immune and there were a few other spots of brilliance here and there, but lots of other bands struggled and lots died in the early 80s. The arrival of popular acts like Cyndi Lauper and Madonna gave the last rights to disco.
Rock already had a huge following, Stones, Queen, The Ramones, Aerosmith, The Clash etc. The issue was simply the radio stations were catering to the new sound of disco.
Thanks for the terrific sound on this!! It's almost like playing the original recording! I only wish you had put the whole album on here. :-)
