As a current Biology major, who is currently working intimately on DNA and heredity (oh and by the way I personally am colorblind as well) I would like to advise that this is caused most commonly by an X-Linked DNA mutation in your DNA passed on to you from your parents. It is most common in males since men only have one X chromosome and women have two. Women need two affected X chromosomes to have colorblindness, but men are affected with just the one. Color blindness occurs when one or more of the cone cell types have abnormal sequencing and essentially the electrical signal from your eyes not transmitted to your brain. Because of this, there is no glasses that will work to make that electrical signal come back. The glasses cannot affect your DNA, so no they do not work. They just make things look slightly tinted a certain color. I wasted my money on them years ago before I knew any better unfortunately.
Same, I wore them for weeks hoping that my eyes would adapt to them and was really disappointed that they never did anything different to any other pair of shades.

You can't restore the missing rods in his eyes, so no he isn't seeing color for the first time in 47 years .
This is not how physics work. There is no way to filter wavelengths in a way that missing rods would just magically start seeing those. The only thing you can do is make the overall color vision even worse, and saturating the ones you already see to make it feel like something new.

Colorblindness-correcting glasses will not change color perception for people whose deficiency is caused by a complete absence of red or green photoreceptors. And the positive effects of the glasses last only as long as they are being worn. The glasses don't in any way modify a person's photoreceptors, optic nerves or visual cortex to fix colorblindness.
"Color perception requires a complete set of optimally functioning equipment, and glasses will not replace or repair missing or broken mechanisms," says Dr. Schwab.
I believe this prognosis is from Dr. No shit, Sherlock.

Imagine someone who advertises an artificial leg that restores full mobility to someone who is missing a leg, but then that artificial leg is just a wooden stick. That is what is happening in this video, but with colorblindness. This creator is taking advantage of visually impared people such as myself for personal profit.

I know the glasses don’t work on everyone so I got 2 other colourblind people I know to try them with the exact same result. Enchroma is a scam company that makes money by preying on the hopes of colourblind people, shame on you for supporting them with this blatant propaganda.

People with that variety of colorblindness have just grown very good at assessing shades of brown and thinking, "I have to call this shade of brown "red" and this shade of brown "orange" and this shade of brown is "pink".

Right before you went into the Sherwin Williams, I was going to comment that it would be interesting to give him an art kit and have him make a color wheel and just play with blending his own colors. I'd love to see his reaction to how just a little bit of a different color can change the whole thing.

Could never recommend Enchroma glasses for anything, as someone red-green colorblind, I thought they would help and spent 299 on a pair of the industrial grade ones.. they suck and are just red washing a hue over everything.. doesn't take much intelligence to deduce a scam as obvious as that.....
They tell you up-front that they don't work on some people or on some kinds of color blindness. But there are far more people attesting that they have worked for them, than people like yourself for which they haven't worked.
Are you sure you followed the directions and didn't flip them on-and-off and gave your brain enough time to rewire to the "new reality"? And again even with this, sometimes for some people they just don't work. Do you think if we crowdfunded you back your 299 you could stop being bitter? Some of us truly are sorry they didn't work for you -- but you should have known that going in.
There's just so many success videos now that people are approaching them with expectations that they don't always meet.

Technically a colorblind person has "seen it". They just have not processed it the same as you or I. In some of the videos it's amazing how astute particularly young kids have been at sifting through muted shades of brown or yellow and learned "I have to call that shade of brown "purple" and that shade of brown "pink" and that shade of yellow I should call "blue".
So they know the linguistic tools (adjectives) that apply to a blue sky, a red fire-engine, a pink rose . . . but to them it's all just mushy shades of brown, yellow or other limited scope of colors.
That's why there such a "Reality mismatch" when they see a more accurate representation of blue or purple or orange or pink. It can be psychologically devastating to find out "your eyes have been lying to you" and because of this you've been missing out on so much.

I'm color blind as well. Enchroma seems to work. I bought a pair for $99 but they did nothing and i sent them back. Good for you Keith! I wanted to be a pilot but you can't if you are colorblind.
I'm not color blind, but this is amazing! I do have a high frequency hearing loss and hearing aids boost the high "crispy" tones so I can actually hear them. But I can't figure out how these glasses work!
As someone who’s colorblind and my wife is an optometrist, this is cute!

They don't work for everyone, but You must know what type of color blindness you have before choosing a pair for yourself.

I had read about Enchroma a few years ago and asked my eye doctor about a sample so I could know if I wanted to try it, he said basically "blah, blah". I just scheduled an appointment for new script glasses....but had once again thought about mentioning enchroma lenses....I see my doc tomorrow and I'll ask again. If I can't view through a sample even if it's not my script then it's a no go....from what I remember years ago it was like $400 to add to your lenses!
