i love this style jeep I've always wanted one of these i don't like the automatic transmission i love the manual i learned to drive on a manual transmission and i just have always wanted a vehicle with one
im a relatively new manual driver so i still dont understand this fully, what’s the purpose of the rev match downshift? what really throws me off is why you would go from 3rd to 2nd gear while going 35, im sorry if i’m missing something obvious lol
Do you have to drop the gear at the exact same time as the blip or can you drop the gear then like half a second later blip and let off the clutch? If that makes sense..
Is it a bad idea to buy a manual tj and learn to drive it on the way home? I am planning on doing that not, but I am worried I would not be able to test drive it and there could be a problem with it
There’s really no reason for doing a rev match in a TJ unless u need engine braking when pulling a trailer. These aren’t performance vehicles. Good explanation tho.
Two reasons. Its fun and sencond is by rev matching you are saving additional wear on your syncros as well as the transsision and engine by matching the speeds together if your downshifting
KyleSVT good point about the downshifting. I could see how it would wear out ur trans if you don’t rev match. Ur explanation about when passing is good. Then again I don’t pass often cause these are slow. 😂 if you straight pipe and rev match it is very fun. Edit: 16 and somewhat new to manual. It’s a dying breed for sure.
That jeep sound brings back good memories
Just bought my first manual. 2015 JK. Still learning my shifts. My downshift need to get smoother. Gonna try your method!
Whew! Those downshifts sound good. I think it's about time i chop the muffler off my own.
Love the sound of your Jeep
Thanks!
This was super helpful! I'll be practicing this in mine soon, thanks!
Love your TJ sooooo much man! I want one as a project vehicle to play around with, i'm gunna be buying a corolla soon as a daily. 😁
Thanks Eli!

Good stuff. I got pretty good at power shifting at the track but never tried rev matching. I'll remember this for the next Mustang purchase.
Thanks for the help trying to learn to drive my dads jeep tj
no problem! Glad I could help
Dig the puma socks. You so stylish.
lolol
Clean downshifts!
What is the purpose of rev matching? Is it vital for driving a stick?
not vital but for one I really enjoy doing it. It's easier on your engine to rev match, also easier on the transmission and clutch.
@@KyleSVT Sounds good, so this would be a cool thing to learn after 'mastering' stick? Thanks for the help, trying to learn all this new stuff!
Thanks for sharing. Very helpful video.
Glad it helped you!
Gorgeous Jeep!
Thanks!

2nd gear is gonna give you more power and get you going faster.

I usually do it at the same time
what exhaust do u have on your tj?
Muffler delete. ua-cam.com/video/Ysml32DvFEo/v-deo.html
Hi. Is it a 4L or 2.5 ? Sounds great
4L Thanks!

I would recommend bringing someone how knows how to drive manual with you :)
KyleSVT Thanks, one of my best friends knows a lot about tjs and can drive stick so I think that would work perfectly
how’d it go?
What year is your Jeep?
2001
Is that stock exhaust!? That throttle response seems insane
yea pretty much, just a muffler delete
Hey is your Jeep regeared? My first great is almost useless maybe 5mph, 2nd up to 20.
Im on stock 3.73 gears
My first gear is the same. I have to shift by 10mph or I'm ringing it out. 2000, 4.0L, nv3550 trans, 3.73 gears, 30 in tires
can you do that on a diesel engine?
yes
Do I need to rev match to downshift
Don't have to but its best
My TJ will grind gears if I don't rev match mine when down shifting. Think I have some sincro's going in mine but it helps alot to rev match.
The trick to driving a stick is to never downshift specially on a hill
Or upshift. Just use 1st and reverse, the rest are optional
@@abunea I think you mean "R" for Race
Heel toe down shifting is harder.
1ST COMMENT :)
Soft 2 steps on the clutch
My 97 is like that

Should have done it barefoot in that Jeep. haha. Maybe the next time?
