#1 , in Minnesota, was pretty good. Also State Hwy 61, along Lake Superior, from Duluth, to Canada was kinda special too. Also Kriver Campground, (Oklahoma, was a blast. (Biker camp) Arkansas, and Kriver, is a place I will visit again. Need to bring you my SYA p, seasoning. (Poultry, Fish, salad)

Travel the coast road 73-76 from San Diego, CA to Port Angeles, WA while in the Coast Guard. Then drove north to south the whole coast road in 81, 83 and 2015. Lots of fog. Some sections have length restriction for different types of vehicles. Never gets old driving the coast road.

Highway 1 between Morro Rock and Carmel. Trailered and tent camped at Hearst State Park just north of Cambria. Tented at Limekiln. Hopefully you made it to the elephant seals at Piedras Blancas and hiked in to the kilns and water fall at Limekiln State Park.
Followed by 395 east of the High Sierras between Randsburg, CA and Carson City, NV.
Third is Highway 49 between Mariposa and Downieville, in CA. This one though is probably off limits to most trailers and RVs. Makes Highway 1 look reasonably straight.

I think one of my favorite scenic stretches of road is I-70 from Pendelton, OR to LaGrande, OR, up over Deadman Pass and thru the Blue Mountains. It's reservation land, so no services, few buildings, nothing but stupendous views. It works going both ways: going east/south you climb one real female dog of a grade out of Pendelton, but as you near the top the views open up over beautiful and deserted rolling hills covered with wild flowers, grasses, and small clumps of hard and softwoods. The drive across the top of the Blue Mtns is very pretty and descending down the grade from the top down to LaGrande is very dramatic, with a steep gorge and white-water river (depending on time of year) at the bottom of the gorge on the passenger side. Going the other way, west/north, the grade up out of LaGrande isn't quite as hairy as it is from Pendelton, but still a pull. The real pay off going this direction is the descent on the Pendelton side, as you start down the grade, go around a big wide curve at the top and suddenly the entire stretch of the Palouse opens up below you, you can see for 50-60 miles, it's truly breathtaking. There is a view point at the top you can pull of to, I'd recommend it. As you continue down the grade towards Pendelton, the views open up even more and it's really cool to watch the Palouse come up to you. Only warning is the Pendelton grade is just as hairy going down and going up, and it's very weather dependent. Wind is often extreme, snow can happen just about any time of year (even though it's not that high of a pass, and summer storms can be severe. I got caught in a summer thunderstorm coming out of LaGrande heading for Pendelton a few summers ago and like just about everyone else on the road had to pull over and wait for the storm to pass, as it was raining so hard visibility was maybe 20-30', very dangerous at highway speeds. Coming down into Pendelton on the other side, the winds were very strong and I ending up driving thru a tumbleweed storm, had multiple "hitch-hikers" attached to my car, hahaha. So yeah, check local weather ahead of time...

My cousin and her husband from Brunswick warned us about California Route 1 :-) They drove a 40 ft. Class A up the coast and said there were times they had to cross into the other lane just to make the turns. Yikes. Great driving and wonderful advice about the journey. Welcome to the Calif coast. When you get on 101 north of SF up to Ukiah, go a little farther to Willits. Don't go around on the by pass go through town, towards hwy 20 Ft Bragg. Then you can see the sign that says, Gateway to the Redwoods. You can pull off and park in the Safeway parking lot. I live in Willits. You can turn west and go to Ft Bragg ca where are a number of RV parks in Ft Bragg that will accomidate your Rv. Our favorite is Hidden Pines. There is also a nice rv park in Willits, Mendocino Redwood Rv park. Then you can tour FT Bragg and drive a little north to the village of Mendocino where many movies have been made. Oh and our favorite place for sea food in Ft Bragg is Sea Pal down in the harbor.

The first year out we planned everything but realized we were always rushing to get to the next spot. It is a total bummer. The next year we didn’t plan anything. The one thing about towing your house you always have a place to sleep. ;) truck stops and rest area work great when you are caught without a spot. It is all about the adventures. I probably will run into first come first serve next year. Something I don't like because the summer time is going to be a hot mess. However, many parks are adjusting to reservations, so I am hoping they go that route to some campgrounds.

We drove the 1 from Monterey to Long Beach in '98 during the El nino and the 1 was closed several times for helicopters placing netting on the cliffs to help stop erosion. So we had several times we would just be parked in the middle of the road and could walk around for 20-30 minutes at a time, kinda cool way to spend the day!

I agree with Cory, hwy1 is a destination in itself. We like to go north above Fort Bragg to a small community of Westport. They have a Westlort beach and state landing dry camping park a few miles north of the community. We love it there on the bluffs overlooking the ocean and the sound is so amplified there. Safe travels and enjoy the California beaches and just ocean views are spatacular.

That highway you were on it was scary you driving on it when you went by that on vehicle. I’m so glad you made it through. Your food looked good there. You look like you could be a chef Corey and a great one at that. A great photographer at that as well. That view of the ocean was beautiful. The ocean is always beautiful and the beaches too. You great at that Corey with the shots of the beach and ocean.

One of my favorite roads was when we were driving from Yakima to Seattle for my niece's wedding and on the spur of the moment we decided to take the very small Highway that goes by Mt. Rainier. It was a sunny day and the view was so beautiful. When we took the road we had no idea we were going to see the mountain that close...we just wanted off the busy highway... so part of our joy was the surprise of the mountain view.I think the road is number 123 through Mt. Rainier National Park.

I have always wanted to stay at Crescent City, Cali. and use it as a hub. From their I would only be an hour or hour and a half from the Redwoods, Trees of Mystery, the drive thru Candelabra Tree, Oregon Vortex, Sea Lion Caves (in Oregon), and a few lighthouses. All are within driving distance of Crescent City and I wouldn't have to keep changing motels, just hop in the car, go see what I want to see and drive back to the motel. But, it will never happen now, so I just dream. I forgot to mention cruising "The Avenue of the Giants" in the Redwoods!! SO BEAUTIFUL!!! And great walk path at Trees of Mystery.

We are So Cal people so we’ve been here many times. In addition to your suggestion to drive North to South, if possible, I would also suggest go to your campground first (via a different route 😁) and leave the rig, then go do the drive. So much less stressful! We stayed in Marina (north) & drove through Carmel (Amazing Views!) to Big Sur and back.
And to anyone else watching this, the water REALLY is the GORGEOUS AQUA BLUE! 💙💙💙

If you think that's tight...do NOT try to take trailer down the road into Muir Woods National Monument in Marin County...just a bit north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Find a place to stay with the rig, and go to the park with just the truck.
The massive patches of purpley-pink flowers are a type of iceplant--very common along the CA coast.

If you pull up the CalTrans web page for California, it will tell you that RVs are now allowed on Highway 1. Not only is it not suited for large RVs, it drives people nuts who are stuck behind the slower going big rigs. Yes, Yes, Yes it’s a beautiful highway and is one of California’s treasures. We travel 101 and then drive over to the coast with our rig for camping.
