A super underrated movie glad you're watching it
Might as well throw Pleasantville in there! ✌🏼Both movies were released in the late 90’s and both were equally great.
"Pleasantville" was a great movie! There are so many underrated movies to see. I could probably name 100!

Pleasantville is the opposite of this movie. Pleasantville wants people to embrace degeneracy and to make people think the way things used to be was bad. Blast from the Past shows how far we've fallen.
This movie is literally and figuratively a blast from the past.

When the Mom goes up the first time, she's lit up in red, reminiscent of Carrie. I always wondered if it was on purpose.
It kills me how little you know Sissy Spacek. In the 80's she was regarded as one of the most serious actresses in the film industry. Her and Merle Streep were always regarded as the two best female actors. I think from the late 70's through the 80's she must have been nominated for five or six Oscars.
That was 40 years ago.

Dave Foley in his own directed and starring movie The Wrong Guy is fun. NewsRadio is the best. EDIT: Although one of the best movies he’s ever been in that everyone seems to have forgotten is Employee Of The Month with Matt Dillon.

I think it's perfectly rated personally. It's never been my favorite. I've never wanted to rewatch it. It's very forgettable to me.
another great Sissy Spacek movie is Coal Miners Daughter about the life of Singer Loretta Lynn...Which all the songs of Loretta Lynn in the film were sung by Sissy Spacek...and it would be cool after watching the film to do a bonus reaction of a Loretta Lynn Interview and Performance...just to see how crazy spot-on Sissy Spacek Nailed Loretta Lynn in Talking and Singing

I met Dave Foley a few months ago . We talked about Blast from the Past. He told me Brendan Fraizer called him after he won his Oscar . On Oscar Night ! He wanted to share the experience with a friend .
Wow that is amazing. Brendan Fraizer is definitely a one of a kind actor.
You know it's a good movie when you can't stop smiling. I don't think there was a single moment where Samantha wasn't smiling 😊
Fun Fact: Dr. Pepper was made to be drank warm/hot IDK if you can still do that or if they've replaced so much it's no longer the case but that's the Dr. Pepper Gimmick, Coca Cola originally had cocaine, Pepsi was a Pepcid ("relieve indigestion" ) and Dr. Pepper unlocks more flavors when heated up.
My mother grew up drinking it heated, but was only when she visited family in Texas. Dr. Pepper is my favorite soda and one of the only ones I can drink room temperature and still think it taste great. I would say that the favor profile on it does change with temperature, but that goes for almost anything.

We got the tradition of Hot Dr. Pepper from my Dad. It's a Christmas thing for us, and we use orange slices! We're in Oklahoma.
It's great in barbecue sauces too.
They noticed a drop in sales of Dr. Pepper during the winter months, so they recommended a hot Dr. Pepper recipe for that reason.
Man, Brenden Fraser had a great prime run in the late 90s. 1997-2000. Huge string of hit movies and future cult classics.
Fraser won an Academy Award for best actor in the 2022 film "The Whale". So his career is still going strong.

@@tempsitch5632 sneaking in to the movie was easy. Then again I also have snuck in to 7 concerts at the outdoor music venue near me with ease, being I knew their system for letting in temp workers. I'd dress in black pants and red polo that concession stand workers wore. Went to the security at the entrance and said I worked for the temp agency. Then they'd tell me to sign a clipboard so I would sign in with the name of one of the bands members, walk towards the office then duck in to one of the bathrooms , hide in a stall and when the gates opened at 6 i'd blend into the crowd and head up to the general admission lawn above the seating area and enjoy the show.
@@e.jamesshepard7183We used to sneak into.kovies where one would buy a ticket, then they'd go to the exit and let all the rest of us in. We'd watch multiple movies back to back. This was backnin the mid 2000s, I wouldn't try it today.
This is one of my favourite Brendan Fraser movie. Well done, original, funny, Alicia Silverstone in her prime with a killer 90's soundtrack.
This film is more than it should be, it just works so well, the plot, chemistry, humor, it's so good!
yea Ive never seen this film in entirety, My dam cable channels show shit like woke stuff and only ch i usually look on is TCM, EVEN AMC (other than GODFather or ROAD house) is full of the zombie crap. I need to see the whole film as Ive only seen this fun review and Cassie who really has a diverse list now of films.
This and Encino Man are my two favorite Brendan Fraser movies, with The Mummy a close third.
"Encino Man" was a silly fun flick. Pauly Shore was in prime form.

To this day if I'm in an elevator by myself and someone asks me to hold the door, I look at them while it's closing and say "Leave my elevator alone."

Another movie from the same time period (from just one year earlier) that is very much worth watching is Pleasantville. It's kind of a reverse of this movie, with two modern teens dropped in the middle of a "perfect" 1950s/early 1960s setting. While quite funny, it deals with some very deep topics. I highly recommend watching it.
The deep topics being we should reject the good things of the past and embrace degeneracy.
"Carrie" was Sissy's debut movie and she received an Academy Nomination for Best Actress. She would go on and win the Oscar for Best Actress for portraying Loretta Lynn in Loretta's autobiographical movie "Coal Miner's Daughter." Fun fact about her role in that, that is Sissy's real voice when she's singing Loretta's songs.
One of the last films I saw Sissy in was a supporting role as Hilly's mother in "The Help." She's great in it!
We must give credit where it's due. This film was written and directed by the great Hugh Wilson, creator of the TV series, WKRP in Cincinnati, writer and director of the Police Academy franchise, director of The First Wives Club, etc. His fingerprints are all over this, the innocence, the sweetness and giddy sense of humor. BTW, back in the day, the manufacturer of Dr. Pepper was looking for a way to increase sales and came up with a promotion suggesting hot Dr. Pepper as a new beverage treat! Yes, it was a thing. Also, Dave Foley (aka Troy) is a comedy genius. From his work with the Canadian comedy troupe, The Kids in the Hall, to his years on the TV series, News Radio, his ability to troubleshoot any comedic problem is legendary. He is always great. Also see the film Sky High.

Hot Dr Pepper with a slice of lemon is actually really good; a nice festive type of flavor, so I'd drink it mostly around Christmas time.

Usually people talk about the Fraser Silverstone dynamic, but Sissy Spacek is a highlight of the movie. Glad she is getting the recognition she deserves here. Also, the B-plot never fails to crack me up. Great movie !

I was a semi big shot at Universal Studios Florida for 5 years from Grand Opening on (one of the best jobs I ever had). One of the great perks I had was getting to meet a fair number of film and TV stars. One of my favorites was Sissy Spacek, I got to spend some time chatting with her...and she is one of the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet. So much fun getting to hang out with her,
So glad you gave this one a chance - it's a fun little film that always seemed to put a smile on my face whenever it was on cable back in the day. Everyone is great - especially Dave Foley as Alicia Silverstone's friend. It's role that could have *easily* been overplayed/overdone by another actor, but he plays it with a likable sincerity and steals every scene he's in, IMO.
Thank you for such a fun reaction. This was one of my father's favorite movies and it never failed to get him to laugh. By happenstance, he passed away 8 years ago today. But watching your reaction reminded me of watching it with him and I can't thank you enough for bringing back some fond memories.
My favorite line from this movie, "My father, who is a scientist, says everything is a miracle. Everything! I never understood what he meant until now."

You pronounced Sissy Spacek correctly. It's just like "space". And she was definitely most commonly known for Carrie, which is why I particularly love her performance in this movie! 😅 🤭👍

I remember this movie came out when I was in High School. When movie theaters used to promote movies using posters and movie buttons to the vest. I had a guy that worked at Volvo Auto Museum in Volo Illinois ask me if I can give away a Blast From The Past buttons. I said I can give you some and asked all the employees if I can have theirs. I got a few for him and gave it to him. He had a vendor at the museum and got me in for free if I visited. I went a few times and got in for free. His business lasted a few years at the car museum. The museum is still there. I wish I kept my Blast from the Past button to this day because it is an amazing film and one of my first movies I was working at as a teen.
Any movie with Brendan is a win but I would definitely recommend two more specifically: my favorite "Airheads" (1994) with Steve Buscemi & Adam Sandler and one of his biggest "Encino Man" (1992) with Pauly Shore & Sean Astin.

Such an awesome and underrated movie, 1999 was an amazing year for cinema. Hilarious, heart-warming, and an absolutely stacked cast. Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone are awesome leads, but having Christopher Walken, Sissy Spacek, and the incomparable Dave Foley in the cast (plus an early role by Nathan Fillion playing a d-bag) is the icing on an already delicious cake. If you're a fan of Brendan Fraser and haven't seen them already, two of his must-see films in my opinion are "School Ties" and "Gods and Monsters." All I'll tell you is that both are dramas and include exceptional performances..... like, really exceptional..... like, true masterclass performances.

@@busimagenIt was huge because of Swingers. Dance teachers careers were really good for several years. Places opened up all over los angeles. A lot of those restaurants/bars in Los Angeles that appeared in Swingers were packed for a few years after the movie as well. The Captain and Tenille had a fifth career.
Dave Foley is always a treat.
I was an avid swing dancer from 1999 to 2003. So many clubs in the Chicago area had swing dancing nights at least once a week. It was sad when it started to die off.
Love this movie, if it wasn’t for Brendan Fraser it probably would’ve gone much more unnoticed. He just has this natural charisma and wholesomeness which makes the movie.

One of my favorites. I used to have the VHS tape (yes i am old) and I watched this movie at least once a month for years. And here I am watching a reaction video lol. Somethings never change.
This movie was (and IS) such a breath of fresh air! Sissy played the title character in the 1976 horror classic CARRIE, which garnered her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress - rare for that genre. JFK's tv address alerting the nation to the Cuban Missile Crisis was a real event in Oct 1962. Hot Dr. Pepper with Lemon slices was a real thing, too. I love Adam's definition of a Lady and Gentleman, and explaining what 'manners' are. Also, a lot of us never believed the USSR just 'gave up' .

Such a good movie! Fraser on the peak of his career was awesome and even though it was coming to an end at this point, this era of movies was just the best!
You had the perfect mix of comedy, romance and even some deeper messages and movies were still allowed to take their time and the characters and situations felt believable.
When I stocked up my DVD collection, this movie instantly jumped to mind, because I never wanted to be dependant of streaming services for a movie like this
This is a great one. However Sissys BEST movie is Coal Miners daughter Oscar winning for a reason she sang herself.
Way huge overlooked Fraser movie, Airheads. Packed and stacked cast, too. Steve Buscemi, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley and a bunch of others. Worth a watch.

So this movie has a ton of nostalgia for me because part of its promotion was a swing competition for people to be in the big dance scene. A lot of my friends went to compete and we had such a blast even though none of us won. (late 90s had a huge underground swing revival)❤❤❤

My favorite Brendan Fraser movie is Bedazzled (2000) with Elizabeth Hurley, directed by Harold Ramis. It's hilarious and heartfelt and gives me vibes like Groundhog Day.
