Even Danny Trejo said Cusack is someone you wouldn't want to mess with. He's taller than you'd think as well - I met him in Belfast once and he's a big guy - over 6'1 at least.

All kinds of crap poking all over the place and if those were smashed on to a head, the insides would break and have even more sharper objects inside to die on. LOL. What is funny though is those CRT screens where NOT EASY to break. Real life it would most likely simply knock someone out and not actually break at all. Thrown onto the ground, sure. However, not someones soft head.
Saw one fall off a wall at a pizza place. Sounded like a damn bomb went off when it shattered on a stool. My mom literally screamed and threw her plate. Got pissed at my late dad cuz he couldn't quit laughing.

" aaaah man. It is tragic when they throw away a perfectly good white boy like that! " How that actor kept a straight face delivering that line was awesome.
"That guy's not much of a killer"?? Oh yes, he is. That's martial arts champion BENNY 'THE JET' URQUIDEZ, an American former professional kickboxer, martial arts choreographer and actor. Urquidez is also known for once holding the rare achievement of six world titles in five different weight divisions, and remained largely undefeated in his 27-year career. He also had great fights against Jackie Chan in Wheels on Meals (1984) and Dragons Forever (1988). He was also a fight coreographer on "Road House" (1989).
"What if your dad comes in?" "You can give him one too." - For whatever reason thats my favorite line in the movie 🤣🤣🤣. Always got me laughing at the wrongest time at my GF's house.
I love the recurring line "It's not me". At first Blank says it to signify that he is not responsible because he is just the weapon that someone else has hired. When Debbie finds him kneeling over a dead body he says it again and it seems desperate, like a cry for help. Dialogue throughout the movie drops hints about the drugs that Blank used to take (and Grocer still does) to numb emotions and supress empathy, it is easy to see how when he stops taking them, Martin could have this realisation that by living the life of a hitman he is betraying who he truly is. As he puts it: "It's not me".
And Alan Arkin tells him to take a deep breath and say, “This is me breathing.” Martin does so, then looks in the mirror and says, “You’re a handsome devil. What’s your name?” Throughout the movie he’s reconnecting with his former self, and then he is faced with the reality of what he’s become when Debi is horrified at finding him with a dead body. Great scriptwriting.
@@terri2494 It's also what his mother says to him when she "meets" him at the old folks home. He's no shaken by the fact that she can't recognize her own son, because her own son can't recognize himself either.
The stuff with the convenience store clerk always makes me smile. It feels at least partly improvised and there's something comedic but also totally real to his reaction to the Ultimart blowing up. (so many great moments throughout alongside great chemistry between Cusack and Driver though in fairness, i'm pretty sure Minnie Driver could have great chemistry with a tree :)
Yay! Thankyou Mike Adams - I’ve been hoping the Schmitts would get to Grosse Pointe Blank eventually, and it was worth the wait! It’s one of my all-time favourites, a hidden gem that from the very first needle drop of “I Can See Clearly Now” had me 100% hooked. The world is split into those who love GPB and those who have never heard of it, so it’s always a thrill to see new people experience it! And yes, John Cusack really did kick ass! He’s a highly accomplished kick-boxer and the guy he was fighting was his instructor, legendary martial artist Benny “The Jet” Urquidez. I once watched the movie with a friend who’s a black-belt in karate, and when it got to the fight he said “Woah, this is REALLY good…”
Not really an incinerator. It's a furnace. It's used to heat the building and the water system for hot water. Older schools, especially in the northern US, used them for a long time.
Dan Ackroyd says "Popcorn". It is just a silly thing he says to reference the way he shoots. He likes to shoot 2 guns at once, until they're empty. It makes a pop-pop-pop-pop , like popcorn lol
The actor who plays The Ghoul, Vincent, is Benny "The Jet" Urquidez. He's mentioned in Say Anything, starring John Cusack. He was also in one of the best filmed fight scenes of all time in Wheels on Meals with Jackie Chan.
Benny was also John's kickboxing trainer and choreod their hand to hand showdown. Benny is in another Jackie picture, Dragons Forever, and has good guy role in Force Five where he gets to show off his skills.
@@LordVolkov He trained John Cusack in kickboxing for "Say Anything" , even though Cusack is never shown kickboxing. He has studied under him ever since. He's quite accomplished

Easily one of my favourite movies of all time. Tons of fun dialogue, sharp story, good pacing, good performances, JOAN CUSACK being iconic. It's really fun and very rewatchable.
Is it me or is it better when family members work together in movies like in this one John and his sister it gives u those real emotions when the act with one another
John Cusack was doing the fight scene in the high school against his long-time kickboxing teacher, Benny Urquidez. Cusack had a great run of breezy comedies in the mid 80s that are well worth watching, from The Sure Thing to Hot Pursuit.
Love this movie. Cusack is cool and Driver is adorable. Full of great lines too. My favorite has to be, "Make this gun work." And there's, "You're a psychopath." "No, no, a psychopath kills for no reason. I killed for money."
Fun fact about the car scene between John Cusack and Jeremy Piven! They were directed to play the exchange three ways: understated, conversational, and over-the-top. In the edit, the first and last takes were combined to drive a nail onto how ridiculous the conversation is. Also, them laughing at the end wasn't in the script, that's John and Jeremy corpsing (i.e. breaking character).
This movie always has a special place in my heart because Grosse Pointe isn't all that far from me. About a 20 minute drive. I loved John Cusack growing up so this was a perfect mix for me. I loved the movie since the first time I saw it as a kid. Glad you guys had fun with it too. I think the humor is right up my alley.
One of my favorite movies! The street where the radio station is actually in the L.A. area. I know this because I live near that street. The buildings are still there but not all the shops. The assassin he fights was his kickboxer trainer Benny Urquidiez
When this movie came out, the critics said this movie couldn't figure out what it was: a romantic comedy, a thriller or what. That threw the audience off quite a bit.
If the Schmitts like, or react to, westerns they should watch Hollywood's ultimate brother film, The Long Riders. Movie is about the James/Younger Gang with all named siblings played by actual brothers.
'The Sure Thing' is one of my favourites, but 'Say Anything' is the best. Horrible thing to say but I've broken up with girls for not liking that film!😂
This isn't my favorite movie. It's not even the best movie I've ever seen. But whenever someone asks me about a movie I like, this is the one that comes to mind almost all the time.
I have a soft spot in my heart for this movie. Grew up in the 80s, John Cusack and Mini Driver have such great chemistry they should have gotten married for real.
One of my all time favourites. If you grew up in the 80's and 90's then John Cusack starred in a string of teen favourites, such as One Crazy Summer, The Sure Thing, Say Anything (with one of THE most iconic 80's movies moments ever), The Grifters, and many more. But Grosse Pointe Blank was the epitome of dark comedy movies of that era, and it's difficult to think of many that rival it since. Dan Akroyd is just genius casting, as is John's sister Joan, and Minnie Driver. Just a great combination of talent.
Thank you guys for doing this one. It's always been a favorite of mine, but I haven't watched it in years. Even just the clips of it made me remember how much I love it and has made me want to make a point to watch it again.
So many lines in this movie are permanently stuck in my head, lol. "See that wasn't nice, that wasn't designed to make me feel good." "Here's your not-omelette", and "Was looking for a little validation in my life, but apparently I CAME UP SHORT!"
Grosse Point is not really what you could call a small town. It’s a burb of Detroit and a relatively large town/city. I used to live there and my grandparents graduated from Grosse Point high. This movie is absolutely hilarious and is more of a cult classic.
Whenever I tell people I haven't seen in a long time I tell them what I've been up to also if they ask, I say professional killer. I know the "professional"part isn't needed, but it's interesting to see them be nonchalant about it.
I love the dark Christmas comedy, The Ice Harvest. Directed by the late Harold Ramis, stars John Cusack, Billy Bob Thornton, and Connie Nielsen, and a hysterical Oliver Platt. Despite the dark nature of the story, I've always found it to be a rather cozy film, given the setting and plot and just holiday spirit (even if the characters hate on Christmas most of the time).
1408 is one of my favorite movies. But asking for a reaction is tricky because the only version that's any good is the theatrical version, which is really hard to find now. You are correct, however, it's a great movie and a wonderful performance from Cusack.
Ping-ping-ping popcorn! Great reaction! It's ridiculous but so funny! This dark comedy is such a forgotten/ignored gem! I love the chemistry between Cusack and Driver, almost makes me think it was real. Great music too.
The hitman he stabs with the pen is Benny ( The Jet ) Urquidez, Cusack's martial arts instructor. ps. 'Runaway Jury' with Cusack, Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman
The guy he fought in the school is kickboxing legend benny the jet. John Cusack actually trained under Benny and side kicked him for real in that scene.
John is a really fun comedian but the scary part is he's just as amazing a serious actor. When it comes to serious films the movie Runaway Jury can't be beat.
6:56- Poor Doc's gonna need his own therapy after dealing with Martin. Loved Dan Akyroyd in this..from stoic Blues Brother to hyperactive hit-man, dude really could act .37:32..The fight wth Lapuvlille was Former WKA kickboxing champ ( 57-2, 31 KO's) and Judo black Belt Benny " The Jet" Urquidez. Fun reactions guys, knew you;d love this..It' still One of J.C's best to me.
This was the Cusack's crowning glory. They are both so hilarious in this movie. Such a great concept and script. Also my favorite Dan Akroyd role. Awesome soundtrack rounded it all out.
Lol, I won't sit with my back out in the open. I usually like my back to the corner. Getting shot at a few times while in the military probably did that to me. My wife is use to it.
At the risk of getting too philosophical. The baby stared into his face and forgave him of all his sins. Think about it he had been seeking redemption the whole movie. He hoped to be forgiven by Debbie, which did happen in the end, but only after this perfect little baby looked at him, smiled and said "You're OK dude!!! hahaha. And, with Bowie and Freddie singing in the background. That's what kids do. They make us better.
I don't know if anyone's mentioned that John Cusak has a black belt and has been kickboxing since his early 20s. The guy he fought and killed in the movie was his first martial arts instructor from back when he was preparing for Say Anything.
Im 42 love this movie must have seen this 100 times. I still say "dumb fucking luck" to this day because of this movie. So many quotable lines. It's subtle but after the conversation with her father he leaves and they show her father down the glass of liquor. Maybe it means nothing but to me I feel like he was nervous. Either way, great reaction 😎👍
I'm so glad you guys have found this movie. It's been one of my faves for decades. I see it as essentially a psychological drama, but I get the feeling the studio pointed it in the direction of more of a romcom. How does a kid who is really intelligent but not particularly interested in life (he's a "blank") navigate his way to something that challenges him & keeps his interest? He becomes a trained political assassin. But eventually he feels it provides no deeper meaning to living. He witnesses raw, unbridled destruction (the burning oil fields in Iraq, which ignites the ocean) & it has a profound effect on his sense of being. He wants to get away from death & reconnect with life, before it's too late. The problem is he doesn't know how to change into that new person. Unknowingly, Debbie hits the nail on the head when she says he needs a "shakabuku", a swift spiritual kick to the head that alters your life forever. He gets just that when he looks into little baby Robbie's eyes & sees a pure human soul in front of him, who seems to be trying to tell him something. Plus, the words of Robbie's mom, who says that when you get married & have kids, that life just "gets better & better". That's what he's wanting for himself, & that was what he needed to decide to turn his life around. The script & acting are so amazing that every character, no matter how small, feels 3-dimensional. Even the lady giving out name tags at the reunion! Plus, Joe Strummer of The Clash was in charge of the soundtrack!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I think the movie could be remade into a really compelling drama, instead of having the underlying themes frosted over with a comedy glaze. It might not be a huge hit, but I bet it would be a great movie. You two are great reactors & really nice people. Enjoying your channel alot!
Been a fan of this movie ever since seeing it in theaters back in the day. Great dialogue, great acting, and just a crazy and hilarious story all around.
So many things owe this as their inspiration. Analyze This, The Sopranos, Barry, even a highly-rated episode of Buffy that shares some supporting cast.
Interesting! This is one of my favourite films and I remember being very fond of the first three seasons of Buffy back in the day. Which episode is the stepping stone between the two?
Pushing Tin was the last movie I rented from a local video store. When I went to return it, it was boarded up. Very good movie. John and Billy Bob had great chemistry imho. And Angelina Jolie was smoking.
The is the unofficial sequel to Better Off Dead, an 80's John Kusack teen skiing movie. If you haven't seen it, you should. It's a classic 80's movie. It's a standard teen movie of the era, no assassins. The only change from the original, is the love interest isn't French. All the other characters are there.
Cusack is actually a multi black belt holder. The actor playing the European assassin who fought Cusack is his real life martial arts instructor.
The assassin was an extra in Road House. You can see him in the dealership right after the monster truck rolls through.
Benny "The Jet" Urquidez
That's Benny 'The Jet' Urquidez. He has a crazy good fight scene with Jackie Chan in Wheels on Meals.

Despite the dark nature of the story, I've always found it to be a rather cozy film, given the setting and plot and just holiday spirit (even if the characters hate on Christmas most of the time).
I’ve always giggled at the thought that these hitmen should exist in the same hitman underworld network as John Wick.
This is absolutely one of my favorite movies, so funny, such a great concept. Great chemistry, great cast.
TBR riffing on Emperor's New Groove was exactly what I needed this evening. "John Kuzco."
Forgotten classic.
John Cusack was really good in 1408.
He had not been born yet.
1408 is one of my favorite movies. But asking for a reaction is tricky because the only version that's any good is the theatrical version, which is really hard to find now. You are correct, however, it's a great movie and a wonderful performance from Cusack.
I love it, but it really does depend on which ending you get.
I think he was too young in 1408, by 1997 he had matured as an actor.
@@petercofrancesco9812 He was -558 years old in 1408.
This and Say Anything are on my Yearly watch list. Two all time favorite films.
Ping-ping-ping popcorn! Great reaction! It's ridiculous but so funny! This dark comedy is such a forgotten/ignored gem! I love the chemistry between Cusack and Driver, almost makes me think it was real. Great music too.
LOVE this movie! Great writing. Thank you Mike Adams❣
The hitman he stabs with the pen is Benny ( The Jet ) Urquidez, Cusack's martial arts instructor. ps. 'Runaway Jury' with Cusack, Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman
This is a fun romantic action comedy movie that I grew up watching!
The soundtrack has some memorable songs as well.
The guy he fought in the school is kickboxing legend benny the jet. John Cusack actually trained under Benny and side kicked him for real in that scene.
Bing-bing-bing-bing-bang..popcorn!
He was also in Con Air, which you guys watched 8 months ago.
John is a really fun comedian but the scary part is he's just as amazing a serious actor. When it comes to serious films the movie Runaway Jury can't be beat.
Definitely one of my favorite movies of the 90’s 😀👍😁 an egregiously under-rated comedy! It stands up to multiple watches👌
This is an absolute classic. Solid pick
Another favorite of mine. One of the first films I bought on LaserDisc in the 90s.
I love this film. The chemistry between John Cusack and Minie Driver is absolutely sensational!
John Cusack's sister, Joan, plays his secretary, and another of his siblings plays a very intoxicated lady in the restaurant scene.
Once again you're watching one of my all time faves! Love this channel!!!
This was the Cusack's crowning glory. They are both so hilarious in this movie. Such a great concept and script. Also my favorite Dan Akroyd role. Awesome soundtrack rounded it all out.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. One to stop and watch anytime you see it on tv.
One of my favorite movies of all time. Came out when I was finishing high school myself.
Lol, I won't sit with my back out in the open. I usually like my back to the corner. Getting shot at a few times while in the military probably did that to me. My wife is use to it.
One of my all-time favorite movies.
I think the movie could be remade into a really compelling drama, instead of having the underlying themes frosted over with a comedy glaze. It might not be a huge hit, but I bet it would be a great movie.
You two are great reactors & really nice people. Enjoying your channel alot!
One of my favorite movies
Been a fan of this movie ever since seeing it in theaters back in the day. Great dialogue, great acting, and just a crazy and hilarious story all around.
Yay! Thumbs up before i even watch.. love this movie!
@@zenocrate4040 "Homecoming." Even shares some slight plot points with Grosse Pointe Blank.
If you want more Cusack then you definitely need to do:
High Fidelity
Serendipity
Say Anything
Pushing Tin
You did also watch Cusack in Con Air too.
Identity also
@@charlesderosas5577 Not one I would personally recommend.
@@jkhoover I say it's underrated thriller
Identity is awesome
Pushing Tin was the last movie I rented from a local video store. When I went to return it, it was boarded up. Very good movie. John and Billy Bob had great chemistry imho. And Angelina Jolie was smoking.
The is the unofficial sequel to Better Off Dead, an 80's John Kusack teen skiing movie. If you haven't seen it, you should. It's a classic 80's movie. It's a standard teen movie of the era, no assassins. The only change from the original, is the love interest isn't French. All the other characters are there.
