This day was so much more mellow than the Sunday morning when we were there. It was crazy, loud and hilarious that Sunday morning almost 2 weeks ago.... It was nothing like this!

Thanks Tessa @ 1:00, 2:16, 2: 42 for sharing the brilliance of Azure to blue with a pitch-black backdrop.

Whilst Capri is a beautiful place, sadly like many other places in the world, it’s crammed full with far too many tourists. ☹️If I was a permanent resident, I wouldn’t be happy as it is too busy and every single business seems to exist purely as an opportunity to sell really expensive food and souvenirs to day visitors. When we visited the Blue Grotto it was a nightmare. Everyone pays to board a large motor boat which takes off from the main Capri harbour.
After arriving at the grotto, we had to queue up behind all the other boats that were waiting there before us. Whilst there, you have to pay for a ticket to enter the grotto. After almost an hour, we had to climb off the side of the motor boat into a tiny rowing boat - shared with other tourists. By the time it was our turn to enter, the tide was so high that we had to practically lie on our backs to pass through the tiny shallow entrance. Our visit within the grotto lasted less than 4 minutes and was practically pitch black because due to how late it was, there was practically no light left. We barely saw a single glimpse of the famed ‘blue water’. There were a whole lot of other tiny rowing boats in the cave at the same time - each one steered by men who were singing (poorly) to show off the echo inside...... or more likely to distract us from the disappointing experience.
As we left the grotto/cave and awaited our (rescue) boat to return to Capri, the man who steered our rowing boat demanded additional ‘tips/gratuities’ from everyone.....advising all 4 of us (me, my partner and 2 other tourists) that he expected a minimum of €20 for each boatload of visitors. We gave him €5 and the others refused. I wish we refused too....but we were trapped on a dirty wet boat (filled with water drenching our feet) and we were going to have to rely on his skills at rowing us up next to the bigger vessel and staying still whilst we all tried to climb up the side to safety.
❤️I love the Amalfi Coast, the Italian lifestyle and the Italian people ...but this horrible money-grabbing tourist trap is a disgrace. You pay for a motor boat to take you to the location, you then pay another fee to another floating ‘ticket boat’ who allocates you a rowing boat....then you’re practically held at ransom by the guy who gives you the actual tour. Such a disappointment!!
