    Very very good video. Clear and crystal. Instead of guessing based on nothing, it is a statistic. 10 out of 10 video.

    I noticed how slow and laggy some 4K scenes were previewing today, making it super hard to edit 4K scenes which are relatively long and huge in size. I will upgrade on 64 gigs and update here if it helped me with this issue. Thanks so far for the video!

    This was a surprisingly informative video. I was just searching ram comparisons and this popped up. I used to make videos but the editing and rendering process was so horrendously long that I basically burnt myself out of it years ago. Shame I know, but info like this gives me a glimpse of hope. 32GB is a minimum as much I can see at this point in '22, but more is recommended. Thank you very much.

    It also must be noted that the issues with RAM Consumption is also dependent on whether or not you are using 032 Bit Floating Point (Full Range) for your project: Floating Point 032 has always been needed by me over 08 Bit Integer due to my heavy usage of Special Effects and Pre~rendered Models in our programming on my end, even after Version 0I8 of Vegas Pro introduced Full Levels for the 08 Bit Integer preset; I presently run a Hewlett~Packard Pavilion 590-p0057c that uses an Intel 8400 and AMD RX Lexa ("550", 02 GB) with 0I6 GB (02x08 GB) of DDR IV at 2666, and every time that I have worked on any project in Vegas over the past two and a third years, the RAM has always been the bottleneck for projects using Floating Point 032 even when on Zero Megabyte Dynamic Preview, which is a combined issue of the lack of CPU resources, Video Memory from the RX Lexa, and Committed Memory from the RAM, the latter being the biggest factor that I'll discuss below.
    Most of those that have RAM issues and Out of Memory errors with Vegas Pro ultimately do not take Committed Memory into consideration, its capacity is four times the amount of Physical Memory that you presently have in your system (Example: A kit of 0I6 GB of Physical Memory will have 064 GB of Committed Memory to work with before Vegas gives you an Out of Memory error; for most systems, expect this error if it reaches between 063.40 and 063.90 GB in use) and can be taken up by a plethora of applications, most notoriously in the case of Web Browsers (I know this First Hand through understanding how Opera gets Out of Memory issues with Facebook, as there is a 04 to 08 GB Commit limit before the error is triggered while scrolling down the News Feed for many minutes); if any of you are on a lower end system such as mine and you get OoM errors brought on in Vegas by having low Commit available to you, try closing out applications that are hogging it for other tasks so that you can focus solely on your render, that extra 0I0 to 020 GB could very easily come in handy when the Memory Bar in Task Manager is near its limits and it will make or break if a very Full System Intensive project gets done today or if you'll need to upgrade your parts, I've known this method for years and it has been essential to get many media assets (Station IDs, Animated Wallpapers, Splash Screens/Program IDs, and many others) finalized against all possible odds. (:

    You did a great job with the test, and your conclusions are spot on! Can you believe that I only have 16 gigs of ram? I'm not jealous. I don't have enough memory to hold a ram grudge.

      You gotta build a new PC then! At the end of 2020, I saved up and bought some new parts and threw together my new rig. Ryzen 5900X, RTX 3080, and 64GB of 3000Hz RAM. Gonna bump up to 128 soon. This machine is a monster.

    Great video man, I added extra ram and went all out to 128gb. Problem is I still cannot play 10bit 422 Footage in HEVC codec.
    I have a Ryzen 7 5800 8 Core 3.8, 128gb of RAM and RTX3060 12gb but it just will not play, even in draft its super laggy. I have had to do proxies for every file on an entire project. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

    The main thing I came away with this is how Dynamic RAM settings effects render times. Seems maybe having it very low or even off is better then having it set to assist the RAm itself. Maybe investigate th best way to tune your dynamic RAM settings, as 1/3 is a good general rule, but I'm sure there should be a way to fine tune this.

    I checked and saw that the default value on my copy of Pro 18.0 was set to 200mb out of an available of 15,299mb. Based on your suggestion, I increased the dynamic RAM preview max to 5000mb, which is approx 33% of the total RAM. Does this sound about right to you? Why does the program not automatically adjust the value of dynamic RAM preview based on the available RAM, or is that too sophisticated a maneuver to program into the program? (I typically add minimal effects.)

    • @ScrapyardFilms
      @ScrapyardFilms  3 роки тому +3

      That sounds like a good number to me. I recommend 1/3 to everyone. Just enough to prevent crashes while not clogging up the rest of the pc. Magix confirmed they either want to re-work this entire setting or get rid of it. It's outdated in their eyes so hopefully we'll see some better options in the future.

      You should only consider this if you have GPU disabled and aren't doing GPU-assisted renders. Otherwise stick to 200MB or 0 as the tests here show no real performance benefit and potentially significant downsides.

    I have 4gb ram and when i apply twixtor or magic bullet to my clips then during render it gets stuck and I've to restart my laptop every single time so if i add +4gb ram then my rendering will be fast???

    • @ScrapyardFilms
      @ScrapyardFilms  3 роки тому +1

      4GB is very low. 8 will definitely help and should be faster. But what a lot of people don't know is that video editgint takes a very good computer to do efficiently. Always make sure your computer is better than the recommended requirements provided by the program's developer.

I noticed that this happens only when GPU acceleration of video processing is switched to NVIDIA (I've got quadro RTX 4000 8GB). But also I noticed during rendering in task manager that I am using only -10-12 GB of RAM instead of 128... Any ideas? :)
