"Just this once, everybody lives!" A line from the Doctor Dances that Moffat has stuck to because every time he writes an episode everybody dies!

I felt that The Ninth was very underapreciated and would wish to have him stay in the show until at least there was a Series 2A. Hell, it would be nice to see a multi-Doctor episode that was like The Two Doctors

My favorite Ninth Doctor story was a fanfic (it WAS a long time ago, and I have forgotten the title) in which the Slitheen returned to Earth, featuring the Ninth Doctor with Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and driving Bessie through the streets of London.

Christopher Eccleston was my first Doctor . My favourite Ninth Doctor stories are "Dalek", "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances" , "The Unquiet Dead" , "The parting of the ways" and "Father's Day". Love your Doctor Who specials . Greetings from Bulgaria.

This is my absolute favorite Doctor. Also very clever intro with the whole GCC logo. It's your best intro ever! I hope you stick with it from now on!

I absolutely love the Empty child two parter, especially the second of the two. There is just something about the glee in the Doctors face when he says "Everybody lives, Rose! Just this once - everybody lives!"
You can't help but just feel glee for him.

We didn't, actually. The intro animation was created for us by the massively-talented ChrisLerouxDesign. Head to his channel for work-in-progress clips, clean versions of the titles, and more!

These are ridiculously helpful to me as I prepare for the 50th Anniversary. I needed to learn more about the classics, and you helped so much! Thanks!
As for Nine episodes... The Doctor Dances is still one of my favourites. Ever. I sob like a baby every time the Doctor heals everyone. "Let it be a day like this!" The fact that he ended up on Big Brother is also amazing.

    Top five for me:
    1- Tom Baker
    2- Chris Eccleston
    3- David Tenant
    4- Peter Capaldi
    5- Colin Baker
It's too bad Hugh Laurie has never considered playing the role. His typecast as Gregory House would seem fitting for the role as the doctor.

There was an abandoned script where Jack would discover that the Doctor had manipulated Rose's life in an expeirment to create the perfect companion.

We're covering one Doctor per month the whole year to get everyone up to speed on Doctor Who for the 50th anniversary special this year! What better way to celebrate a 50-year legacy than to get everyone on board with it?

Good review, but Christopher Eccleston did not leave because of fear of typecasting. This has been confirmed at several sources. He only ever signed onto do one series. Phil Collinson at the BFI screening confirmed this. They also confirmed that Tennant was signed on quite early on. But they would have liked Christopher Eccleston to stay on for another series. The trailers at the end of each episode are there as initially they didn't have enough footage shot to make the episode 45 minutes.

Favorite: The Doctor Dances. That moment at the end:
"Shh! Come on, please. Come on, you clever little nanogenes! Figure it out. The mother. She's the mother. It's gotta be enough information. Figure it out... Oh come on. Give me a day like this. Give me this one. ... Everybody lives, Rose! Just this once! Everybody lives!"
The 9th Doctor has dealt with so much death (Time War, etc.) that getting this "Everybody Lives" moment is supremely emotional, for him (and for me)!

I like the Ninth Doctor episode Dalek. It really delved into the mind of the Doctor and how truly scarred he was. It made me think that the Doctor didn't know the war was over and he would do almost anything to kill this one Dalek. It was also a awesome introduction to the Daleks for a new audience.

While each Doctor has his own positive traits, I've always felt that the 9th was the best suited to what his respective showrunners tried to accomplish. 9 wasn't just suffering from survivor's guilt, he had PTSD. Every modern Doctor has had their moments of post-Time War rage, but Eccelston wore it on his sleeve in every scene, even the lighter ones. When he hears "You would make an excellent dalek," it stings because he knows it's true - & it stays true until his love for Rose redeems him.

  • @GeekCrashCourse

That didn't stop Richard E Grant from playing a different alternate version of the Doctor in "Scream of the Shalka" or appearing in the modern series as Dr. Simeon/The Great Intelligence.

Another fantastic Doctor Who insight, guys! I loved. I have to say that aside from the ones you mentioned, my favorite Nine story is one that came out this year. Before you go "Wha...?", let me explain.
The 50th anniversary has Big Finish Productions and AudioGO teaming up for a special range of audios with each of the 11 Doctors called "Destiny of the Doctor". The Nine story for that range -which only just came out- is called "Night of the Whisper", and it's great! :)

Picking just ONE 9th Doctor story is too hard! So I'm going to go with a top 3 (since Eccleston is my 3rd favourite Doctor, after Tennant, at No. 1 and Tom Baker, at No. 2): 'Dalek,' 'The Empty Child' / 'The Doctor Dances,' and 'Bad Wolf' / 'The Parting of the Ways.' By the way, is it cheating to count a two-part episode as one?
LOVE your videos! Keep 'em coming!

I agree with 'Father's Day' for one of the favourite Ninth Doctor adventures, I also really liked 'Boomtown'. :) Fun fact, earlier this year, my friend Retha, her brother Rikus, and I went to a convention/expo called 'Armageddon', and Rikus was cosplaying as the Ninth Doctor, and people had been telling him it was the best Ninth cosplay they'd ever seen! (Retha was the 11th Doctor and I was Rory :) )

You made three negative comments in one shot. That's how three-strike policies work, Jack.
Negative tones help a person feel insulted about their (not there) work.
Be constructive. Be creative. Say something. If you can't do at least one of those things, just don't comment. Luckily, you're now actually engaging in conversation, so I'm happy to keep this back and forth going. -Michael

Eccleston was 41, Tennant was 34, and Smith was 27 when they each started playing the Doctor. I think part of the fangirl thing for Tennant and Smith is the hair. Women will swoon for men with excellent hair. Eccleston missed that boat with his nearly-shaved head. -Diana (a lady who appreciates good hair)

    Hey, constructive thoughts!
"Rose" is also bogged down by establishing the soap-operatic style of the Rose era, along with a cast of supporting characters so good they all get shoved into an alternate universe later to stay out of the way.
End of the World introduces the larger universe, myriad cool aliens, and that the Doctor is the last of the Time Lords. Superior acting from Eccleston, Rose not in half the episode, and "Tainted Love." What's not to like? -Michael

Actually, Eccleston denied that he quit because of fear of typecasting, but rather because he didn't like the work inviroment and was unhappy with the production. If this wouldn't have been the case, he would have done the role for a couple of years.

My favorite Nine episodes: "Dalek", since Eccleston was at his best playing the character in all his moods, and The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, because it's a World War II story and because it brought us the awesomeness that is Captain Jack Harkness.

With respect, you're not making this show. The blue blazer was the best we could find with a red-purple pinstripe (the actual blazer was much darker than you'd think, due to the studio lighting). Additionally, the choice of a black shirt and darker-colored floral tie is meant to directly reference the outfit in Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, my favorite Tennant adventure. If that's not enough for you, well, that's too bad. -Michael

I'm a little surprised you guys or anyone else in this comments section didn't mention what I feel is the best episode of Eccleston's run - Dalek.
I liked it because it took just one Dalek, and made it the scariest thing ever, and showed some of the 9th Doctor's anger and how he was more than prepared to kill this "last" Dalek, and even made you feel sorry for the Dalek.
Also, no mention of the "Scream of the Shalka" Doctor? It might have been relevant here, as a "Lost" 9th Doctor...
