I remember these books! They were a great inspiration growing up. Thank you so much for that dinosaur pop-up book, Reinhart. I don't think I would have ever wanted to study paleontology without it.
OMG I have one of his books. It's about prehistoric sharks and my dad bought it for me and my brother about 10 years ago (when we were into sea monsters and dinosaurs). I just got it out of the bookshelf and opened it after 6 or 7 years, and this time I actually appreciated his amazing work of art!

Cheap Labor, the same as anything else. I used to work in the production department for a publisher (a regular non popup one). I wish I could have been paid to put these books together. It would have been tedious, but so much more memorable than most of what I did.
Well at least it's creating something. Putting together toys in a summer job at a Tonka (etc) factory wasn't my worst ever job. All those corporate vultures cannibalizing other companies creating nothing but strip and sell economics. Not for me. Could be a question of selling your manual skills - not your soul. Might be an outsourceable proposition too? Or even the handmade limited edition route. Signed by the artist, archival papers etc?
I wish I could like this video twice! His work is fascinating. I collect books, and his pop-up books are some of my favorites. I totally had noticed that different parts pop up at different times when opening it, and it's absolutely beautiful. A total work of art.

Reinhart, You are amazing with your art and engineering skills. I have loved Pop-Up books since I was a little child. I have never seen ones with as intricate displays as you the ones you create. I can only imagine the hate you receive from tree huggers for the amount of paper you have to go through. Of course they do not understand trees are a renewable resource. Keep up the great work and we will keep planting trees.
We had that dino pop-up book in my childhood house, it's really beaten up and some of the pieces are broken but it was still easily one of my favorite childhood books, such cool stuff, even as I'm older.

This guy is creative and cool but you know what....more props to the people in the assembly line that had to cut and glue thousands of his books by hand.
helsinki i doubt the cutting is manual, as you have both knife routers and stamp cutters for that job, but yes, the folding and gluing must be very laborious!
That is really incredible. I noticed the Transformers on the computer before they were mentioned and seeing the pop ups that Matthew made of the characters was impressive.
Imagine all those people his age and older and younger that were told by scolding guardians, parents, and teachers, "Stop playing around and learn something useful!" and letting all that curiosity, talent, and creativity die. I'm so glad he is able to do this and share his beautiful (and hard) work with the world and inspiring others of all ages to be excited. He's making people excited about the artistry of it, about the knowledge and learning in the books, and showing that you can do things with your hobbies and interests.
I process used books where I work and the pop-ups have become an obsession of mine. Getting his is always a treat! My other favorites are the Dinotopia ones and the ones intended for adults only (Pin-up girls, horror, etc), they're just so unique. I'm starting to collect them.
At first I was not that impressed by the t-rex head, but then the small Transformers pop-ups just blew my mind. It’s such an overlooked branch of book art, it makes me low key mad. The people behind these fragile constructions need all the recognition.
I have that prehistoric creature book! And I can say it is the most impressive pop up book I’ve ever read, so many pop ups and moving parts, it amazing!
What an innovative mind may do with something as simple as paper and some physics! I loved every bit of it. The best part wasn't even the amazingly complicated popups. It was the passion. I felt it hit man. It hit good. Keep creating!
@@ooXChrissieXoo there's software for that, but it's definitely just not advanced enough for what he does. And no one is going to develop advanced thing, since there's very little demand for that (not profitable to do).
They didn't have feathers, they were Saurichians. Ornithischians were the closest to birds because of their bird hips, while the Saurs had lizard hips.
@@PrinceJes dinosaurs did have feathers, in fact some dinosaurs needed feathers. We even have evidence that they had feathers from (fossils). So get your facts right.

Not gonna lie, I snicker a lil bit when he started calling it 'engineering' but then I got to see the transformer popups and followed by the rest of his stuff. He is truly a wizard and he can definitely call it whatever he wants.
How is it that none of his books are at every grocery store and supermarket all over the world!?! This should be something that every kid grows up with :P I wish i grew up with one of these books!

every time he opens a book i keep screaming in amazement. The pop-up books i grew up with were nothing like these.
