- In this video Elena shows how to drape a peplum for the garment and explore different shapes.
She is using a squared piece of muslin 100cmx100cm with a circle cut out in the middle of the piece. Circle' circumference equals the dressform waist measurement.

Thank you for another interesting tutorial Elena! This eruption of volume looks great when paired with a cinched waist. I especially like those undulating lines. Overlapping technique looks interesting as well but i wonder how we sustain this shape on an actual garment? Should it involve some rort of wires or boning in seams or we can achieve this effect just using the stiffness of fabric? Thanks a million!
No wire, no boning. Proper fabric selection is crucial.

Hey Elena I love watching your draping videos as I love draping too ! I struggle converting it to paper patterns though ! This drape in the video that you have shown with bias, is it possible to convert the same (especially the flower part) into a paper pattern, where more similar dresses are made following the same ?
Yes, surely it's possible. But there is important issue to consider - the fabric that you use for draping should have similar weight and similar properties of the actual fabric

You must make the proper marking on muslin piece or other fabric that you use for draping/making the prototype. The start and the end of a stitching line that holds the pleat, the outline of the peplum detail, etc.The marking technique you learn when you acquire the knowledge of basic draping. I hope I will create another video series of draping techniques and show the marking process)

Hi. I'm wondering what shape of the muslin do u use to start draping the skirt ? Is it a rectangle piece of fabric or a asymmetrical one?

it is a square 100x100cm with a circle cut out. The circle radius is 10cm. Dress-form size - S, waist - 62cm

How to cut fabric for this?
Beautiful drape! Is there a way to mark the bias fold in order to make a pattern? Or would you drape & hand sew the peplum on the form?

Basically you can create paper pattern and mark the bias fold. However I always advise students in this situation to use for draping the fabric with the properties similar to actual fabric, the one you will use for the garment.
But what kind of fabric do I have to use so those shapes can hold the way you showing?
The fabric. Should be strong enough. For evening gown for example textile which is a blend of cotton and silk works very well. Medium weight
When you make the pleats, how do you keep them firm??
First, you need a proper fabric selection or create additional support while making the garment - consider fuse for example. Also the stitching line is supporting the pleats - stitching lines will follow the "pinning" lines.

hiiii miss!!! question.... depending on the size of the draped peplum, can it be attached to the underlayer as u mentioned?
or can it be different as in being separately attached or attached to the bodice instead?
The peplum does not necessary need underlayer support. It can be sipmly attached into the waistline of the bodice and the shape of the peplum is secured by stitching lines. Fabric such as brocade can be an example in this case.

I never use draping bt I have a question how we can all size draping with one maniquin , how it's fit measurements.
Draping is very useful technique and we normally use standard dress form, which you can purchase. However you can customize it for your own measurements. Or make from scratch. Just Google or check on UA-cam how to make own dress form or body form :)

You can’t do all size draping with only one mannequin. You drape one size and then using the 2D technique to either reduce or increase size.

The Draper is looking at a class. That class is probably on Vietnam. Hence, the Vietnamese translator. If you can’t focus just because someone is speaking a language that you can’t speak then the problem is you

The japanese or whatever is incredibly annoying, but this is amazing otherwise
“Whatever language other than English is annoying” surprise! English isn’t the only language that matters! Also it’s Vietnamese. It’s appalling that there are still people that simply can’t tolerate hearing another language other than their own

@@HaNguyen-tr5vd English isn't my first language, so I'm fairly aware it isn't the only language that matters. That aside, my problem was not with the language itself (apologies for mistaking Vietnamese for something else, that's a mistake on my part), but more the repeated interruption. I'm aware the course was for non-English speaking students, but it's irritating regardless within the context of a UA-cam video.
