my favorite DT albums are Damage Done, Character and Fiction, haven't heard Construct, Atoma and Moment yet, didn't like Into The Void much, I liked the albums before Damage Done but not as much as I liked Damage Done, Character and Fiction, Fiction also was the first album I heard from them
Definitely in my all time top 5 bands of all time. Saw them of we are the void tour and they are the most humble down to earth musicians ever. I got to talk with Mikael for a bit and he is definitely my favourite musician to talk with, so down to earth and generally cares about what you are saying. Absolutely legendary band 🙌🤘
Interesting ranking. I haven’t heard everything from Dark Tranquility, but everything I’ve heard I liked. Damage Done, Fiction, and Atoma are especially great albums. Probably my top 3!
Character Damage Done Fiction The Gallery and Projector for me I know lots of people don’t like the projector but I love that album to death. Stanne is amazing!
I'm not the biggest fan of Dark Tranquillity, but I also share your love for Skydancer. It seems like most of their fan base ignores that album, but it's their loss to be honest. I love it. It of course is influential for being one of the first Gothenburg albums, but I also find that it is stunningly creative arrangements, and I love the folk melodies that crop up on the album. It's not surprising to me that the dude in Obsequiae cited that album in particular as being a major influence. The Gallery & The Mind's I are also quite good. Melodic death metal isn't really my favorite kinda genre for what it would end up becoming, but I really respect the earlier Gothenburg output. The earlier stuff was often more raw, showcased the overlap between melodic death metal and melodic black metal, sometimes more experimental, or just more melancholic in a way that's often lacking in the genre today.
@@Questformetal Yeah, it's pretty interesting because I had previously never noticed any similarity between Obsequiae and melodic death metal, but Tanner Anderson (the main songwriter) has cited Skydancer specifically, Eucharist, and Fall of the Leafe as being major influences. He's also cited the more obscure black/doom band Ophthalamia, Hellenic black metal like early Rotting Christ, and of course medieval and renaissance music as being influences as well. It's quite an eclectic set of influences honestly! But I suppose I would expect nothing less from a band with a pretty unique sound.
I like every Dark Tranquillity album, they are my favorite Melodic Death Metal band (: My top 3 albums of them are: Moment Damage Done Fiction All of those are a 10/10 for me (: Hails from Germany !
Projector had just come out when I got into DT, and it's still probably my favorite. I loved the '90s stuff, and Haven as well, but was really let down by Damage Done at the time. It seemed like a step backwards. I sorta checked out of DT for a long, long time, but for whatever reason Atoma really clicked with me. Moment isn't bad either.
In order from the best (in my opionion). For "Moment" I need time and more listening to put in my personal chart 1-Character 2-The Gallery 3-Damage Done 4-The Mind's I 5-Skydancer 6-Fiction 7-Haven 8-Atoma 9-Projector 10-Construct 11-We are the void
Interesting ranking for sure, I agree with some choices, less others. I'm a huge fan of that golden mid era of the band, so I deviate from your points there. My ranking is as follows, although note that I kind of dismissed Moment and Construct after about a listen each, as they initially didn't do much for me, and I should revisit them. 12) Construct - really didn't do much for me, it's not awful or anything just... not super memorable. 11) Moment - same thing 10) We are the Void - The songs between The Fatalist and Her Silent Language are amazing, and if only those were released we'd have a 10/10 EP. But as it stands, the album is pretty weak. 9) Atoma - Initially it hadn't done much for me, but I gave it another listen and it's grown on me tremendously. I hate putting it here because it's better than a 9th spot implies. 8) Mind's I - Also an album that didn't do much for me for a while, but a recent revisit has redeemed it. Still feels like a less focused The Gallery. 7) Skydancer - a fantastic debut, and the Of Chaos and Eternal Night EP is an essential companion. 6) Haven - an underrated masterpiece, I don't find it bland at all. 5) Character - a very strong album, part of the holy trilogy of mid-era DT. 4) Projector - a very successful experiment as far I'm concerned, I've always loved this album for its uniqueness. 3) Damage Done - a timeless classic, this is how modern melodeath should sound. While In Flames was declining into metalcore mediocrity DT put out this masterpiece. 2) The Gallery - the benchmark for the classic melodic death metal sound, an utter masterpiece. 1) Fiction - I've found myself loving this album more and more. An absolute essential for any fan of melodic death metal.
A ranking of DT albums is very hard as they never made a bad one. I think my least favorite is "Character" cause it doesn‘t have something special in my opinion. My favorite is maybe "Damage done“ cause it perfectly combines the sound of their first three albums with the more recent, "modern" sounding albums. Other favorites are "The gallery" (the best of their typical Gothenburg sound albums) and "Fiction" (also a great combination of old and new sound). Haven‘t heard "Moment" yet. Most underrated album is "The mind‘s I“ in my opinion. Everybody‘s talking about "The gallery" and the controversial "Projector", so the very good album inbetween is often overlooked.
I'm not really a melodeath guy, but I love Fiction and the 2 newest albums, more gothy. The Gotherburg sound is cool, but I'm very picky early In Flames and The first 3 DT albums are undeniable classics
Mine would be pretty similar. My first album also was Damage Done. And I wore that cd and many copies out lol. From Best to worst 1-Damage Done / 2-The Gallery/ 3-Atoma 4-Fiction / 5-Character / 6-Moment 7-Haven / 8-Construct / 9-Projector 10-Skydancer / 11-The Mind's I 12-We Are The Void (where unwanted albums are most alive) I own all their albums except for We are the void. Which I really don't like. Not to where I never bought it. No I bought it and used to own it. Must of just misplaced it somewhere ... Lol
I agree. The Mind´s I is such a good Album. But what the guys play in the last songs og Damage Done is absolutly insane unreached stuff. And in my Opinion ATOMA is very good. My last Favorite is Moment!
Interesting list, minds I and the gallery are also my top 2 albums, I also don’t understand why the minds I is always at the bottom of peoples list, such an underrated album
I am ok with your rankings as long as you don't say this band has no bad album 😆 I discovered DT with Projector and I would put the Damage Done, Character & Fiction albums in my top 3. And so far I find the new one boring AF.
My personal favorites are Character and Fiction, though Character was my first DT album. The others are still great albums, just to me these two hit a special sweet spot. I also appreciate how much Mikael has improved his clean vocals. He is sounding fantastic on their newer stuff!
Projector and We are the Void are the bottom for me then probably Moment and Damage Done that havent hit me (yet). Everything else is great. Shadow Duet and Blazing Gold are two of my favourite songs ever
Broooooo Damage Done been dun wrong 😭. But honestly lol other than that I ain’t really mad. My ranking is here as you probably already know: ua-cam.com/video/4U42Rdf5WBs/v-deo.html
Character is my #1, easy. I much prefer the heavier stuff and don't like the clean vocals in this band. The last several albums have been awful, for me. Damage Done is pretty damn good too.
I am surprised the new album is receiving so many positive reviews. For me it's the biggest dissapointment in metal of 2020. The album is generic, lacking any fresh ideas at all and it simply doesn't have one single memorable moment or a song. I gave it at least 5 spins already and I don't think it's gonna change much. For me their best 'new era' album is Construct and my favourite ones are Fiction, Projector and Character.
Let me know your own favourites down below and if you're enjoying moment!
@@sportsdebatearena The Gallery and Projector are probably my 2 favorites as well. :)
I don’t see Haven on your list, where would you put that one?

Totally agree, we NEED a full album with Mikael singing clean. The clean passages are always the highlight for any album
I love Dark Tranquility. I had The Gallery and Mind's Eye in the 90's. Thanks for reminding me of the great ones!
My top 5 would be
1- Damage Done
2- Haven
3- Character
4- The Gallery
5- Fiction
Although the top 3 are on par and the order changes from day to day.
My list-
1)The Gallery
2)Damage done
3)Character
4)Atoma
5)Fiction
Correction. The Gallery is the sophomore album (95) The Mind's I comes right after (97)
Nice Ranking, their latest album I would say is fairly good, and to me, there are a band that hasn't made a bad album.
The Gallery's my favorite but The Mind's I is criminally underrated.
The Gallery is one of my all time favourites. Also Mind's Eye is pretty underrated tbh.
Character is hands down my favorite... the timing of it was perfect for me
Interesting ranking. I haven’t heard everything from Dark Tranquility, but everything I’ve heard I liked. Damage Done, Fiction, and Atoma are especially great albums. Probably my top 3!
If you enjoy early in flames and at the gates you'll probably enjoy the early Dark tranquility too. If you've not heard them
Character Damage Done Fiction The Gallery and Projector for me I know lots of people don’t like the projector but I love that album to death. Stanne is amazing!

Obsequiae has a great couple of albums as well never noticed the similarities I’ll re listen tonight

I like your videos!! It’s been awhile since I’ve listened to hard core music.... brings me up to date on newer listens.

Moment just blows my mind. I think because Atoma and Projector are my favourites going into Moment. Hard to pick favourites!
Projector still needs to grow on me but construct, atoma and moment are fantastic imo love the new direction and sound of these guys!
@@Questformetal Fiction and Atoma I would send new DT fans to. For someone just getting into metal, I find Moment is super accessible.

it is their third album though, not the second one.
The Yesterworlds compilation with the demos and EP is easily their best release.

1000% agree on the Mind's I!
The Mind's I was my first album by them (early 2000's) and til today it is my favorite
Top 5
1. Fiction

3. Character
4. Projector
5. Atoma

If you've never heard the "Of Chaos and Eternal Night" EP, it contains DT's best song, "Away, Delight, Away."
That’s a killer song. Luckily some versions of Skydancer include the EP.
Interesting list, minds I and the gallery are also my top 2 albums, I also don’t understand why the minds I is always at the bottom of peoples list, such an underrated album
I somewhat agree with this list, the placing of the gallery should totally be no.1 though

"Moment" is easily the most insignificant und boring crap DT have ever released, one of the biggest disappointments of 2020 for me.
uhh Damage done is the best album for the 90% of Dark Tranquillity fans... I prefer Fiction
Just to be annoying. When u said minds I was their sophomore album. Wouldn't The Gallery be their sophomore album?
Yeah got mixed up
Their new album sucks though had high hopes after Atoma..Very generic stuff, new fans might dig it
Broskie do you even English
metal trenches sucks
