I'll never forget the day I told my mother what had been done to me for years. I'll never forget her screams. The same thing had happened to her as a child, so when she found out it happened to me, it broke her..I lost many of my memories from the trauma of my childhood, but that's one that will always stay with me..
@@ChanCantBeCHANged I'm so sorry. I sympathize with you on some level. I remember the shock on my mom the day she saw my arm covered in self harm scars... Then, after a year of being clean then relapsing, when she discovered accidentally my new scars. Her screams and her tears are engraved in my head, marking one of the saddest days in my life. Just remembering it rips my heart apart.
I am also relieved that she realises and hugs her and very genuinely embraces her little girl. I wish that I could get that.

It always baffles me how can a parent touch and do things to their own child. Someone they watched grow up, someone who trusted them whole heartedly.....

@@sarafinasummers7863 as someone who isn’t a survived yet was fairly recently groped by an adult and told that I could still talk to him and we could be together and of things once I turned 18 and started lying and acting like a victim when I called it out same I hate people. I’m sorry for oversharing but I haven’t really talked about it and I think I needed too some way somehow.

@@dmf1301 I don't think they meant guilt as in he felt guilty. I think they meant that it was so obvious that he was guilty and it was clear to see it on him or at least that's how I read it.
Either way not a nice character in even the remotest way possible but the actor did a great job.
"I always suspected you" can be an extra punch to a trauma survivor. So you were suspicious yet you did literally nothing at all besides let it go on. There are a lot of things you CAN do actually, even without clear evidence.
She probably couldn't believe that someone she loved and trusted would ever do such a thing.

She divorced him, cut him off of her life, and remember that from this clip at least, the girl seems to have DID, which means she herself forgot about it and when asked, could possibly even say that it didn't happen. And the mother could've started suspecting him after the divorce even, when she couldn't have even installed cameras etc.
Denial is a powerful thing.

I was 3 when my female cousin stole my innocence. She was a child herself, but she held it over my head and threatened to tell our family if I ever said anything. I always thought I would be the one to get in trouble, because that's what she would tell me, "Do you really want me to tell your mom you're not a virgin? Just shut up and do what I say." I was under her control for 10 years until my family moved to a different state. I was 17 when I actually told my mother what she did. Turns out my cousin's mother, my mother's sister, had done the same thing to her when they were children...I thankfully don't ever have to see them ever again.

Very sad, I read somewhere that victims tend to do the same to others. You know like if a kid's dad beat the kid, once the kid grows up, he will do the same to his kids too. Something like that.

He's one of the reasons I watch all Chicago med. When I first saw his appearance in Chicago PD along with Chicago fire I just had to watch Chicago med. He is an awesome therapist that guy literally he really understands his pacents

I love him and Dr Choi (with Dr Rhodes as a close second). I love how Dr Choi is by the book with everything, but gets all these opportunities to find the nuances in life that make his decisions as a doctor that much harder. And yes, Dr Charles is the best of what a doctor should be, so it's even more interesting when he hits a blind spot. Not surprisingly, I really enjoy that these are flawed characters who get opportunities for growth.

I can’t help but love the irony that the father was outed because he chose to bring the girl to the hospital. Undone by perhaps one of his only acts of kindness. Talk about irony.
I doubt it was anything resembling kindness; more likely, he saw an opportunity to hurt his ex wife. She was saying their daughter was possessed; he could have taken that to a judge and used it, and a doctor's real medical diagnosis, to hurt her. Possibly even regain control over his daughter legally, if she were to be declared mentally incompetent and her mother an unfit guardian.
That or, only maintaining their fantasy. DID can develop to remove responsibility for actions people do. He probably had done this before hand and sold the lies to others.. But those doctor's weren't Dr. Charles.

@@jacksonia7724 If she's declared mentally incompetent/unsound to be in control of her own life, then legally, she'd need someone to watch over her. A legal guardian to ensure her safety. A lot of abusers will have favorite victims that they target, and they HATE when those victims start to slip out of their grasp, reach and control, and will do damn near anything to get their favorite punching bag back.
If he can get a judge to agree that she's not well enough to make her own decisions, then he can argue that since her breakdown took place while with her mother, the mom is clearly the cause/a significant risk factor for her, and that he's a better guardian, thereby putting his favorite little victim right back where he wants her.

I noticed in the first seconds of the clip, during the tantrum in the car, the girl was holding her hands behind her back as if there were tied. The tied hands triggered her again when she woke up from the sedation in the hospital. Small details, absolutely heartbreaking.

Thank God Dr. Charles is very well read. I picked up on the Jabberwocky passage immediately because I loved that poem as a kid. It’s amazing to think what could’ve happened to this woman if Dr. Charles wasn’t there to hear that, or if he didn’t know the poem to begin with. Shows why it’s so important to be knowledgeable about a lot of things not necessarily related to what you’re doing
I never actually read the poem, but I’ve only heard the word “Moanrats” used in one place, so I figured there was some sort of connection between Lewis Carroll and a childhood incident that left her emotionally devastated. The mind is one heck of a thing

This cut so deep as a survivor and someone with complex PTSD. I know what it’s like to be psychologically destroyed like this girl

I have a twisted, yet probable theory: during the questioning he said his biggest regret was letting his wife ‘push’ him out, but we know that pervert just wanted to keep molesting her. And so when he had the heart attack, he probably missed his victim (she’s not a daughter to him) and he revealed he reconnected with her a year ago and they would go out to dinner… the mom said she started getting ‘possessed’ 9 months ago…and the doctor said she could have been triggered by something. So my theory is he started SA her again, maybe unconsciously because he ‘needed to make up for lost time’ 3:58
Or, and this is what I thought about.
Maybe after his heart attack he reconnected to see if she remembered anything and had told or wanted to tell her sorry, maybe she was so young she didn’t remember until he brought it up and triggered her.
She’s an adult. With a law degree. Much more likely to fight him off. I think him coming back into her life alone is what set this off. I don’t think he tried anything again.

Im pretty shocked and sad to see that almost all comments here describe experiences that relate to this scene in the drama. This is the first time I came across something like this and seeing that it is a common thing in the society just makes me feel sad about the kind of people in this world. So sick and im sorry about all of the victims. I have no idea how painful it is and how hard survival and spending a normal life is for all such victims. Hope we could raise more awareness about this among responsible elders and children themselves, so that they can complain to someone regarding it and could bring the criminal to light. I think it is a very important matter because 1, it destroys one's life and 2. They may tend to do the same to another person and might spread the behaviour. The world is so sick and I hope every one can do at least a little thing to help prevent such things.
That's so sad to deal with that terrible trauma as a child and coming back because the monster's back at her life. And for Dr. Reese it brings back bad memory.

i had to memorize that poem for school and i was so happy to hear it so i showed my mom and we watched the rest. safe to say i was not expecting the plot twist. especially because i had initially thought about sending it to my ela teacher 🤦♀️

The poem has been turned into a song & it's a tradition at my old high school to sing it during the chorus spring concert every year. @@novembahit’s a Canadian show that follows the lives of the students of Degrassi high. From second hand info, I heard that it tackled very serious issues as well as smaller issues that kids were facing and that weren’t talked about at the time. I think it’s been on for decades. The show was started by two teachers so they really knew what they were talking about and weren’t out of touch with the audience.
I’m glad that doctor made it clear he was the demon.
Dr. Charles is the man God I just love that character. The moment he made an appearance in Chicago PD was the moment he became my favorite character in Chicago med and every crossover. despite not having a good marriage record, he still tries to be there for his daughters, especially looking out for others as well being a great mentor.🥹🥹🥹
Reminds me kind of Anneliese Michel. She was said to be possessed when really she just had a seizure disorder. Look her up - her story is terrifyingly sad.

Thankfully sometimes that's all it is. But they said they didn't & they treated her for the wrong thing. Scary how they tried to stop the evil ,b it ended up doing it's work. 😔
@@samanthawright9589 That's actually not true. Annalise's family did go the medical route first but nothing was working. It was only after she mentioned demons did they go the exorcist route. And even then many priests turned them away and said that they need to go to a doctor.

During her worst points in her disorder she also refused to go to church. Priests at the church we pretty quickly to offer to exorcise her. I also have a belief that in addition to her seizures she was also suffering trauma from being abused by one of the Catholic priests. It was very common back then and still is.

It's how it happens in Inbredistan. I discovered a 5 year old girl doing interesting things with a terrier.. Her dad was fucking her for 4 years and gave her hpv. The police *put him on bail* and he legged it.

While I agree with your statement, the abuser was her own father, most people aren’t going to suspect without reason their partner and can even less so keep the child away from them without reason. More often than not these crimes (for both children and adults) are committed by someone close to the victim/their family. Most people aren’t friends with people that they think could/would commit terrible crimes

I love how at that final meeting, the closer they got to the real answer, the more aggressive he got. He knew what would happen when that book was read to her. He tried so hard to deny, lie and angrily brush it off as insane and absurd for the purpose of self-preservation, but her reaction told them everything. Once fully cornered, he physically forced his way out. Its terrifying and disturbing how sick people can be and how much damage one person can do to another. In this case, his very own child.... and he was supposed to be the #1 man in her life to protect her from this kind of harm. Really messed up and very sad

Saying: "My daughter is possessed" in front of Dr Charles and Dr Reese is a pretty good way to ensure you're locked up in a straightjacket yourself!
Meanwhile, I think that literally only her disinclination to violence stopped Reese from doing to that guy what Hank Voight would have done.
This is what people do when they have been to every doctor and been told there's nothing to be found/ done. They turn to "alternative medicine", homeopathy, miracle cures or religion/ superstition. Because everything else failed and they don't want to do nothing.
In a way she was possessed just by her younger self. Once she got the mental health care she probably become herself again.

Please please please don't" how many times have I screamed that as my dad tried to kiss my head and I'd duck and dig my nails into my scalp while tugging my hair because his "friend" sexually touched me. Even now I'm shuddering and scrunching up just trying not to get a flashback

I'm glad this is being normalised because it is a thing. Never heard of one this severe but I have it too. I was sexually abused as a child and I forgot. My brain blocked it for me. When I was about twelve, 7-8 years later when I finally remembered after I got visions and flashbacks and went to many doctors. And I've been trying to cope by myself to help. It's a kind of thing takes time. Not a diagnosis.

This depiction is what it can look like if it is unmanaged. Once you get it under control, it’s not…that bad. I hope your aunt can live a normal life.
I’m happy my parents care for me and try to keep me safe. I love them
I have DID. It is it's own thing but I've learned to feel it comming... the edges of it so to stop it. I went through horrible things from both parents with no way out. I left at 15 but wasnt diagnosed until 30. I'm 45 now and much happier, much more stable. DID isnt like how the old movie Sybil portrays it for most of us. It's something that takes us from ourselves...however that manifests. Its crippling.
It's such a complex disorder and still to this day there are psychiatrists who don't believe it's a real disorder. Which is just ridiculous. I'm glad your stable and happier I hope you found decent treatment. The stigma around it is so damaging.
@@elleford8725 I think the problem is that people don't seem to be aware the Multiple Personality disorder is a fake medical condition. DID is a real condition and it's completely different than what people who claim to have MPD is.

@@stephenking5852 No one with DID is evil, not even the ones with alters (no, they're NOT personalities). That's the fiction. They are people who been through some bad sh** so much that their brain had to adapt in a complex way just so they could survive it. And that bad sh** isn't a one and done thing, it was constant, it was long-time thing that happened to them.
So no Harvey Dent doesn't have DID. He IS Two-Face. Norman Bates (not Baker I'm assuming) is the public fear of DID, not the reality.

Well no DID is a lifetime developmental disorder and most people are unable to be functional stable adults. Repressed memories appear in something as simple as PTSD or depression.

I had one. And it was honestly the best thing that ever happened to me. I got help I didn't even know I needed. Left feeling better than I did in my whole life.
I'm sure some do, but typical we doctors do not lie for a psych hold. Psych holds are awful both for the client, the doctors and staff, and the facilities. If there's any way we can discharge them without a psych hold, we do. It's the last thing we want.

This one hit too close, I'm shaking. I knew it almost immediatly. The way the father acts and talks is so familiar. This show does these things with so much insight und makes it feel so realistic.
I also relate to the way the trauma response resurfaced all of the sudden so much as that happened to me a while ago. Sadly many doctors respond by not really believing you. I was quite lucky I already was treated for numerous conditions and had a psychiatrist and a therapist already.

I've never seen this, but I've read Jabberwocky, and I realized that she was quoting the poem; Lewis Carroll made his own words, which included "momeraths" - depicted in the Disney animated "Alice in Wonderland". It's important to have knowledge of a lot in medicine - not just medical fact and theory, but to know of the world.

People who is a psychiatrist or doctor or anyone who deals with people like this are honestly so strong. I could never do it because I’d lash out like Dr Reese did.
As someone with a dissociative condition (immersive daydreaming) due to severe trauma I'm noticing more and more how common and diverse dissociative conditions are in survivors. The unconcious mind has so many ways of trying to heal its trauma through dissociation, mainly through replaying the trauma *or* deleting it from memory entirely. It's really fascinating; as a psychology student I want to study it thoroughly.

I’m familiar with DID and polyfragmented systems but I didn’t know one singular fragment could occur and then later resurface due to one repeated incident although it makes a lot of sense. I hate that there are people like that out in the world it makes me sick
DID does not start before the age of 25-30 tho. Many kids and teenagers these days misdiagnose themselves because of videos they see on TikTok, which can lead to further mental instability. I hope we can stop this trend…
@@havshkamusic2733 that’s actually not true at all. DID forms between infancy and the age of 9 and can present almost any time after that. I know people who are medically recognized by professionals. Also I never said they were underage that was an assumption you made
@@havshkamusic2733 that’s an entire lie lol. It usually starts when the traumatic incident happens. Which can be very young. The person usually doesn’t know until they’re ready though. Which was my case.
@@havshkamusic2733 that makes no sense since DID generally forms from intense or repeated instances of abuse before the age of about 9/10 because after that, one’s sense of self is a lot more concrete. The whole reason for fragmentation/alters/personalities (different words that for this example mean the same thing) is because the trauma happens early enough that one’s personality doesn’t have the full capability to condense into a solid whole. With that in mind why would it only show up in 25-30? Are you perhaps thinks of schizophrenia which I believe is the disorder that happens in your early adult years?

This is typical for an entertainment medical show: A psychiatrist supervises an ER....there are places where you couldn't get a psychiatrist to come to an ER if a life depended on it...

I believe my mom would react this exact same way, maybe not the exorcism bit but when I was put in psychiatric hold before and they would not let me out no matter what my mom said even though she had power of attorney.
Also, when I was there, I met someone with this diagnosis. She didn't act this erratic but when she had episodes she definitely acted like a 6 year old. Not obnoxious or throwing a tantrum or anything like that, just how a young child would act being kind of clueless and innocent. She was so suicidal that there was nothing anyone could do for her except detain her, but she was so kind and funny and she got me through my stay there.
I don't think this therapist understands when a victim hears another victims story they tend to get protective over that person and will infected get angry for that person especially when they can't stand up for themselves
