- Another rare clip found...it's completely the same to the clip from 1985, but LONGER.
Based on my recent finds, I am guessing that scrolling text on the bottom of the screen was introduced sometime between 1987 and 1989
One time I accidentally taped 2 hours of this channel instead of the movie on CKND that I wanted. This clip brings back memories!
At its time, Winnipeg had the BEST weather info/display in Canada. Access was easy and on regular cable. Thanks for posting. Chris in Winnipeg since 1955.
Oh good, the windchill is under 1600 for the next few days. Plus it's Saturday, so I can play outside in the snow. Being 5 rules!

I have this channel recorded when December 31,1999 gave way to the much-anticipated year 2000 at 12:00am January 1 2000.
Thank you so much for sharing this!
East or west of the Red? There is an upload of the channel East of the Red River for New Years 2000.
At that time (1999-2000) I was living in Downtown Winnipeg, so I THINK that I was West of the Red River. However, it was recorded on VHS. Do you have the link for that upload?

Definitely have childhood memories watching this channel as a baby sleeping on the couch on a Saturday morning.
I truly and deeply miss this
The song done on Clarinet is Called "Maria Elena".
My goodness! I used to watch this as a kid in the winter. If windchill went above 1600, outdoor hockey was cancelled! Great memories!
Hidden gem thanks Lux
I remember watching this every morning before I would make the walk down Adsum Dr to Ken Seaford/Maples Collegiate!
This channel was burnt into my grandparents TV screen as far back as I could remember!
I feel like I'm in another world, watching this. Strangest form of Nostalgia, but I'm from the United States, lol.
I greatly appreciate this.
This channel was not only THE authority for weather (2200 windchill? Yes! Indoor recess!!) it also marked the OFFICIAL time. I used to set my watch by it -- to the second -- because I found TV and radio programs would start exactly on the hour or half-hour according to this clock.
And, as a bonus, the channel was a great source of season-appropriate ambient music. We'd put it on at Christmas and have a good selection of carols playing in the background.
Wow! You really miss this, don't you?
Wow January 3rd 1987. I remember this channel so clearly!!!
I feel like shopping at a thrift store.
Brandon had the same Weather channel (Channel 5 on Westman Cable) and I will confess to spending hours watching it in the summer (well, winter, too). It would be amazing if someone ever found and posted a recording of this station from the summer complete with an active Severe Thunderstorm Warning or Tornado Watch...
I recall seeing it when staying at a hotel in Brandon as a kid in the late 80's. Thought it was interesting to see it in a different location than Winnipeg.
Here's a clip from the Winnipeg service during a severe t-storm warning which was in effect for Brandon at the time: ua-cam.com/video/eE8_2OCsZZc/v-deo.html
This brings back many childhood memories for me . . . sad, isn't it? lol
i remember broadcast news/information network, tv guide channel, rogers cable bullentin board during off air hours and the sample channel in ontario, canada similar to telidon and videon back in the late 80's and early 90's, those containing instrumental musics featuring store bought music including classical, jazz, smooth jazz, new age rock and stuff like that before digital music channels launched in 2000, if anyone has more similar to those, upload what you have
ahh the WINTER-PEG " memorys' x) i wanna dance to this grovy music x)
I miss this kind of background instrumental music.
What is the song at 9:15?
That would be a (not fabulous) cover of Olivia Newton-John's "Please Mr. Please."
The cover of "Please Mr. Please" is by The Ray Conniff singers.
@@wpgne the song here is absolutely not please mr please.
@Damper Goldenrod The one mentioned by Grant is (at 6:17). Was clarifying his reply. I am not sure of the one at 9:15.
Thanks deathtrips
WHY AM I WATCHING THIS? LMAO. I remember this is what you checked just before going outside. I'm from Winnipeg as well. This was easy and accurate. Not algorithm weather like on cell phone apps. They are always wrong. Bring this back with 13 channels. lol. This had everything. Even the time. it's like a tv app. mahahah
Thank you.
Holy old school,cool!
Awesome video brings back good times - Does anyone know what FONT this is?
I'm actually going to try to make an app / webpage that echos this exact channel (i'll include the scrolling text at the bottom as I always remember it having that). The font is crucial though I've tried a few and nothing is as boxy. The distinct shape of the 'V' is important.
I have family in Winnipeg and remember this being on my grandma's TV all the time lol.
When I'm done I'll share the link - is 100% just for fun - idea is to have it update with real time weather (on the hour as it seems that how the site works) and headlines from the web.
While I would say that the Winnipeg Jets player name jersey font is similar to the character generator used by Videon, I can understand it still wouldn't be boxy enough.
Unless you could develop the font yourself by creating artwork based on the videos uploaded,,,
thanks for the reply - I'm not much for the graphic end of things so would take me far too long to take care of something like that - However the jersey idea is an excellent place to start - done some looking at though the numbers aren't great (most have the serif type) the letters are good on some of the 'generic hockey jersey' fonts out there. Will get me closer.
Will keep looking I will find something.
I think I may even be using the super 90s HTML element for the scrolling updates along the bottom XD with winnipeg / Manitoba news feeds for the data.
@Biggibble A USB TV tuner would do the trick; just connect a cable directly to the VCR.
Otherwise, I do possess the technology to convert videotapes, so I would definitely offer my services if you choose...
I hate the new change they put on it
@Biggibble I would like to see those, especially the backwards tape...
Do you have the weather for Jan 04 1987?
The RECORD high was 3.3 (38 F)
brrrrrrrr... And I thought Detroit winters were cold?
-6 in January?! *drools* Actually last winter wasn't too bad at all.
You wouldn't happen to still have that, would you?
Nope, that tape long since died.
Sent here from Jack Dangers youtube channe: /carrierfreQ
