Great video except for this bit. 2:17 From kinetico chloramine fact sheet: Contrary to a common belief, standard activated carbon does NOT remove the chlorine from a chloramine molecule, leaving only ammonia behind.
I need help with my rcs and oerbt tank the rcs are getting dark spots on them (a few anyway) and was hoping you could help me with what it might be as I can't find anything convulsive on it thank you

When I first bought my rodi unit I was surprised how simple and straightforward it was to use and understand. The difficult part in my opinion is when to change the sediment filter, carbon filter, or di resin, and all the extra features of an rodi system like booster pumps, flushing the ro membrane, multiple di stages, multiple carbon stages, etc.
Mines see through. That helps a ton with when to change filters. You change it when the filter starts to yellow. In my case that was every 3-4 months. The first stage anyway. The rest of the filters on mine last quite awhile. The high pressure stage needs changed yearly. For a $200 unit it works well for my fish and for drinking water for the family. I buy a years worth of the first stage filters and replace everything else in 6-12 month intervals. I havent used the DI portion of the unit. Never needed distilled for anything. Overall its saved me a ton of money in bottled water at the store for the family and my fish are happy. If you have a ton of aquariums you might need to change the first stage filter monthly but I never had to in my case. Try to use your waste water in your garden or houseplants. Houseplants love it.

I’m excited about the video talking about remineralizing the RO water! I've been looking for information on this like crazy as I'm wanting to run RODI on my new set up but I haven't found a reliable source that gives an explanation and has trackable results, until now! Can't wait!!

Great video! Even if someone doesn't agree with your methodology at least they see actual steps that you take make sure you provide the best option for your aquarium of your fish. By the way I do agree with your method. One thing I might switch to is from Seachem prime to Fritz shrimp. Didn't know it's that much more potent. Great work again and keep these videos coming.
Great video I moved into a home this year with well water and I've been fish keeping for years...since being here I haven't been able to set up any tanks it sucks I know about ROR but iam not to in depth on it seems like alot
When I use City Water I usually put it in a 5 gallon bucket. I'll put some charcoal in a net with a bubbler and let it run a bit (then adding conditioner) Not as advanced as what you're doing but it catches some of the chemicals in the water before using.
Me too! Two drought years and the lake filled up alot in the winter and more in the spring. My fish were trying to jump at night after water changes and never thought to check the PH. It definitely looked like a PH burn and don't know if it was high or low. They were gasping and totally messed up their slime coats. I got a carbon block filter and the rest is history. Nobody believed me but all I care is that it never happened again.

Where do you get your black totes at
So, my blue dream are losing color. I use black substrate and 2 g per 10 liters of salty shrimp in RODI. They regain color in my main non shrimp tank, which I use equilibrium and pH buffer. Not sure where I’m going wrong. Would equilibrium with vita chem drops be sufficient? Or is there anything you would add to the salty shrimp? They have Java moss covered tubes and rock, driftwood, and black gravel.
Can I skip the RO membrane and go straight to the DI if I have a water softener?

So what's a good way to control nitrate levels? My shrimp tank (neocaridina) has gotten up to 20 ppm, and everything I read seems to all conclude the only way to deal with it is water changes. But doing an 80% water change just doesn't seem like a really smart move. I've started doing one gallon per day (in a 10 gallon tank), but that doesn't seem to be bringing the nitrate level down at all. On the plus side, it also isn't getting any worse, it's just holding steady. Do I have to bite the bullet and hope my shrimp survive a massive one-shot water change, or is there something else I can do besides water changes?
20 ppm and stable is fine for your shrimp.
City water is always a no no or use aged water though I'm currently using well water & still scared of using it
How is this for beginners when you start out with a system for water filtration that is not near beginners level?
