This mission is the definition of sadistic.
End of the Pig is even worse. I beat that mission at the cost of 90% of my troops, and even then, only because I cheesed the mission by having my remaining archers and crossbowen pelt him from a tower within the castle.

thanks for this.. line formation. something very difficult to achieve in this game. These two pig missions in the campaign are so silly. Wolf's can be done on very difficult no problem if you think well and move wisely. Here - it's just using glitches of the game.

So i didnt believe The Final Vengeance was possible to do with no losses but ok... then 1 day later i think to myself "wait... but he DEFINATELY didnt do Carving a Path with no losses... like you dont get any war machines you want, no shields and you cant just somehow magically kill the lord but you legit have to kill all the god damn troops and like srsly thats impossible with no losses" and here i am still not believing what i just saw...
My eyes and my brain are in a heated argument at this moment! Lol.
Given how meticulous you were (and had to be) to get 0 losses, I just cannot fathom how many attempts you gave this mission to attain the most optimal play. Beautifully done!

Yes, this is a good pick for the hardest mission, especially because of the time limit! Mission 18 has become somewhat easy after practising for ages for my speedrun, so only mission 21 would be a good alternative for the title ;-)

This is awesome! Even though I've played (and completed) this game's military campaign in the distant past, I had no memory of how to get past this mission. And I've dreading The End of the Pig even more, considering I couldn't even get through this one. Thanks for this video.

Probably. And they thought it was easy.
this level is absolute hard if you don't use any dirty tactic, i'm watching this because my brain can't solve this T_T
i actually found the first Pig mission to be rather easy with the right technique, only defend the last wall + "iron-based economy" (where you get basically all the gold you need by maxxxing out Iron production and selling it at the market)
- but this mission? super hard
@@hanshenrikbergan6876 Excatly, I didn't find the mission before that too bad on very hard. Took me 2 attempts to finish. This one however - i haven't been able to do it for since the release for my entire life...
This one is extremely hard but I have beaten the first one on very hard at the first try. Lots of houses and cheese ! With houses you have a great load of peasants you can enroll, feeding them with cheese by building it all over the attic's surroundings. Ofc by doing so you also provide lots of leather for your macemen but above all crossbowmen. I had like 6 or 7 crossbow makers (not a single one making arrows). I successfully defendend the furtherest wall (send your crossbowmen continuously at the towers while recruiting them because they walk slowly and it's very far). I sent all my forces this wall, emptying the closer ones. I produced small amount of macemen staying close to the outside wall (on the exterior's side on defensive mode). I also used oubliettes when I had enough wood.
Of course this strategy needs a lot of wood : only build them at the very begining litteraly in the woods. Even if it's far from the stock. Don't hesitate to destroy existing lumberjacks far from the woods : you'll get back some wood in the stock and building lumberjack in the wood is much more efficient.
For Gold, just play with very high taxes until you fall close to 50 popularity. Then choose "no taxes" and repaeat. I also build iron mines to sell it on the market and after a while built a bread production chain so I can max out taxes by rising food portions.
How is that even possible? I fail this mission on normal X times and you manage to do this on very hard with nearly no loses at all, that's incredible! o.O
James Rye Thanks. The trick is, that you do not see the countless tries I needed to finish this mission without losing that single maceman near the end or losing the entire mission because I ran out of time. On top of that, there are the hours of me trying, failing (especially at the one without the archer trick used here) and finally finding a working strategy.
It really takes forever for me to record just a single mission the way I want to, but in the end, all that matters are the results and I am quite happy with them :-)

Ok, here's the story. About 2017, I already finished most missions on very hard and I'm pretty sure I watched your two videos at some point. Then yesterday I did this mission on easy and normal. Someone told me to not try hard, so I had to do it. And then I couldn't stop and had to do very hard, too. It was tedious, but it worked. Then I find your video again and you used almost the same strategy as me. I'm not sure if I copied it unintentionally. But you actually did it without losing a single guy and without ever saving and loading? That seems impossible to me. Your skill and dedication far surpass mine.
Hehe, yeah, this one was definitely one of my greater moments! But kudos to you for beating it on very hard aswell, that sure is an achievement!
What you dont see is that I was at the exact same moment, too. But then I simply kept playing that mission again and again, until I tweeked it enough to not lose troops, and then I practiced until I finally managed to record everything perfectly. It probably took like 2 weeks of constant play to make a 10min video, but the result was totally worth it! :-D

I played this campaign on easy as a 6 year old ad I still couldnt do it, now I come back as a 24 year old and try and do it again but on very hard and it was fucking impossible, I come on youtube to see how other people did it and I really dont know what to say lol

I played this game back when I was in middleschool or something like that and I bought it again just recently because I remembered the game was fun... and that this particular mission I never got past even on easy. Except on one instance which I somehow managed to on luck.
Never even attempted a Very Hard run on any mission, but with this I hope to get past it on Normal at least.
By the way, dunno if you answer comments, but how did you get everything to lay flat?

I agree, this mission is very challenging on very hard! On easy, you should be able to do it though, just storm the castle with everything you've got like I did in my speedruns, that approach is pretty reliable.
To toggle view from flat to normal, simply press spacebar.
Ah, gotcha. I'll check out your speedruns then. I've tried just outright storming but I still get massacred; I'm probably doing something wrong.

i hate it that they are shooting arrows on ground, v 1.1 never had this issue, i have hd and am having same issue
When I saw how difficult this mission was on very harf I became a little frustrated.
Now I see some finish it without their 70 or so Spearmen being used...

Hmm, I don't remember anymore, but days is definitely the correct time scale (including preparation and practice)!

Yeah, I have no idea whats different on my computer... I also uploaded a bonus video with a different strategy, where I do have some losses but dont use this precise tower sniping. I have seen this replayed on other channels as well, so maybe this works better for you?
I love Stronghold, but this is a pain in the ass
I just want to know what Firefly Studios was thinking when they made this mission, its beyond insane to siege a castle without any real siege equipment. No catapults, no portable shields (there's probably enough wood on that stupid battering ram to make 4-5 portable shields).
A mission like this probably made many players just quit the game for good because of how bad it is, gives you the impression that the rest of missions are going to be even worse so why even bother with them...

Thats impressive. I need to find those blindspots cuz everytime I play this map their archers seem to have way longer range than mine and just kill off all my archers in no time, even on easy.

Is it possible to defeat Pig's invasion force as well as killing off the garrison? I'm thinking you'd have to kill everyone in the castle except for 1 pikeman (in order to not trigger victory) and then man the walls with your forces.
No, you do not even get the chance to try. The Pigs forces arrive once the time limit is reached and symbolize your defeat... If you spare one pikeman, you lose...

Well, there have been a few people who made the same experience as you, but it always worked for me... I take a single archer and move him tile by tile closer to the enemy. There is one distance where you are safe to shoot, one tile further and you are getting shot, one tile less and you shoot into the ground.
The older versions (V1.2) were actually easier since you managed to hit your targets from even further away instead of shooting into the ground!
@@LordBalder Funny enough i have v1.2 and am watching this video trying to figure out how to beat it on hard and i ran into the issues of shooting into the ground. I guess i have to try further and find the spot.

Its just the normal game with the HD patch, nothing special with it... Its hard to tell if you are missing some details or if there really is something different in your version, you would not be the only one with that problem, even though it always worked for me! Nevertheless, I also uploaded a little less sneaky strategy in my bonus video, maybe this works better for you :-)

Sí, ese comportamiento vino con la actualización HD ... Sucede cuando estás fuera de rango, una vez que estás lo suficientemente cerca, empiezas a disparar normalmente de nuevo. ¡Mis arqueros están lo suficientemente cerca para alcanzar su objetivo, una casilla más lejos y todos dispararán al suelo!
For some reasons my archer on the west can only hit the wall, no matter how pixel perfect I place them just the same as they are here...
Thats very annoying! For that reason, I was very happy when I found my bonus strategy where I place my archers much closer to the wall and still manage to win, though with some losses...

What is the ladderman doing?
He is luring the enemy archers to the front row of their towers so I can hit them. There is only one exact distance where this setup works, one tile too far and I cant reach them, one tile too little and I am being shot...
In my game there is a lake of fire around the castle. Why?

its not the same mission. Fire is in later mission where you siege same castle again, but already with pig at the castle. So you beat pig himself. There you only take his castle.
i think its patched, doesnt work for me. at yours spot crosbow men can hit us. And in easy difficult brute force doenst work. all die before reach wall :/
This mission being unbeatable on very hard in some versions is indeed a known problem. Even my bonus strategy which doesn't require the exact positioning of archers did not help in some cases... On easy however it really should doable. Please check out my military campaign speedrun where I run through this mission on easy with only losing about half of my troops.
It's doable on easy without problems, but impossible on higher difficulties now.

I find resolving to use glitches or abuse the poor AI, a really poor level design. In fact is not difficult, its impossible without abusing them.
I agree, that's why I am very happy to have found less glitchy strategies for both mission 15 and 18!

You can adjust it under "Options" > "Game Play Options" or just use the "+" and "-" key.

The pigs army shows up in 8 min in my game. I timed it. How the hell did you get 12 min
I reduced the game speed from 90 which you are probably playing to an average of 60 which results in 50% more real time. The ingame time however stays the same, everything just moves slower and I have more time to manage my army better, but the pigs army will always arrive in Jan 1224!
I try this shit & randomly out of nowhere it says "defeat" (even though I still have all my god dam men still alive out on the motherfuckin field [lousy son of a bitch game...)
You have a time limit in this mission, once you reach Jan 1224, the pigs army arrives and you lose...

Its the hardest mission in the campaign, so this is natural. However, once you know what to do you can rush this mission in about a minute on easy :-D
This mission is a total dogshit. Most of the army is just a garbage. Your stratagy doesnt work coz they just SHOOT THE GROUND FOR SOME GOD DAMN REASON

I can only assume that you are placing your archers too far away from the towers. There is only one exact distance where they reach the enemy archers without being shot or shooting in the ground. It always worked for me and I have seen it done in other videos, too...
Still, you can have a look at my bonus strategy, or the brute force approach in my military campaign speedrun on easy or my glitchy strategy in my military campaign speedrun on very hard. Maybe one of these strategies works better for you. :-)
