Can you play Stronghold Crusader on EMPTY MAP WITH NO RESOURCES? - Stronghold Crusader

- Yeah one granary is allowed, either that or you're forced to start with 5 wood!
It wasn't even useful, I just needed one to start playing the game
Also marketplaces are free with UCP if you're wondering, Not sure if it's impossible to play without that

Props to the 4 villagers who stuck to rebuild the castle with no food and getting constantly taxed
The loyal ones
God bless them
God bless Stalin.
They are now the Kings
In the first Stronghold game, you're left with only 4 also, BUT, if you hire soldiers you get a popularity boost so you can get them back. It's kind of a safety measure. Sadly only 2 will actually stay. So ypu can in theory be reduced to only 2 peasants manning your castle :) Just some trivia on an old game
Those first 4 guys u taxed hard are literally the investor 💀
They were Germans like me I'm pretty sure so it was normal for them to be taxed so hard
I think they liked it.
OH YEAH TAX ME HARDER DADDY - Peasant
Im laugh so hard with this comment. 😂
@@G31M1 Yep. The worlds highest taxes but internet worse than Romania, just 20x more expensive and the entry position salary of a Ph.D. is less than what you get than working as a garbage collector in Switzerland... (who have better services and lower taxes and you can earn easily 3x as much with the same level of education)
@@edi9892 What the shit? They get 3400€ for starters? That's insane hahaha
Although the cost of living in Switzerland is also pretty high so I guess the earnings have to be adjusted. Unlike here in Germany with the inflation, only the poor politicians get their money adjusted ofc hahahahha
So how did it come, the best crossbows were actually made in the desert? Well, long time ago, a European adventurer named Jefflenious came to the holy land in seek of glory. However the peace treaties at the time forbid him venturing out of the kingdom of Jerusalem. He had to settle down in nearby the desert, with nothing but a few Arabian trade caravans coming by. He used his last money, to buy wood from them and construct a shelter. With the remaining wood, he crafted some crossbows in hope of selling them for some food to the caravans. Because crossbows were rare in this region, they sold very well. But food was also rare and Jefflenious bought ale instead, as it could satisfy his thirst and hunger at the same time. The tales of a crossbow building eremite living of ale spread quickly and other craftsmen came to his shelter and asked to aid him. A village formed and the exchange of knowledge quickly led to a guild of highly skilled craftsmen. Thus the desert crossbows became famous.
that was awesome tale tho
Great story here

Really enjoyed reading this..
Thank you for your time typing it

Your grandson: "Tell me a story"
You: Long long ago, there was a small desert village... People were making bows day and night...
And then villagers recruited an army only armed with crossbows.
😭😭😭Such a touching story, grandpa
Great novice XD
Just goes to show how well thought out and balanced this game is. Such a classic.
Very balanced
So he used the ucp, in vanilla cost the merchantpost 5 wood. 😉
If you have no wood, no woodcutter's post and no marketplace you can place a building for free
@@poldi2233 i know ab about about woodcutter feature, but... man, free store for real?
@@dan-wiiu-killer honestly not sure if it's all buildings or just a woodcutter's hut
The crossbow selling tactics never cease to amaze me xD
I like to play at a dessert map against many AI lords and sell crossbows and use Religion for popularity (ale is haram)😳
I won the 80. trailer mission with it and it works out well in Stronghold 2 too.
Lances have higher ROI (Return on investment. From the same amount of wood, more lances are sold, with somewhat higher income.
For example:
>3Wood (3*8Gold)=1Crossbow (45GoldIncome)
>1Wood (1*8Gold)=1Lance (16GoldIncome)
You can do the math:
you buy 100 wood (800GoldInvested)
Income out of that:
>33 Crossbow (33*45=1485GoldIncome)
1485-800= Net *685* Gold
or
>100 Lances (100*16=1600GoldIncome)
1600-800= Net *800* Gold
*Here I wanna say that I don't have the game in front of me, so I son't see the marketplace prices*
but assuming the base data I provided is correct, lances are worth more than crossbows as
*800(l) > 685(cb)* Clean Net ROI (Return on investment) , also, lances are produced somewhat faster
If misscalculated, please let me know, Syre
@@Teglamen True, but if you play on negative fear factor as well you can make 3 crossbows out of 6 wood instead of 9, which tips the balance.
Not only that but making crossbows is better because in offense it's more valuable to have ranged tough units than fast squishy melee units. When, of course, you grind enough to attack. At that point it's hard to switch the economy around
@@RovilleX That's why I put down both type of buildings. You're talking about defending the castle. If you sell crossbows (This video is about moneymaking, and the enemy did not attack) you get no money.
If you wanna have both (make money and have the cb archers) ideal would be to make it split. Lanceshops require less capital (Cb buildings require mid-range costs... obviously swordshop will be the most expensive- as far as resources-gold, wood)
So if you build both (Lanceshops cost 100G 10W each- low capital, high ROI/ Crossbowshop around 150G 10W medium capital, slightly lower ROI)
-->What you have now:
-You sell lances for highest Return, and can buy leatherjackets for cb archers
-You keep the crossbows for your defenses, as it's lower return, but highly effective castle defending force (supported by some infamously OP portable shields 😀)
To me, it looks like a balanced, *self-feeding automatised economy* if you don't forget to re-invest gold for wood resources.
How's that sound now?
I remember playing Stronghold 2 without cutting down a single tree, wanting to preserve the forests. The war campain was really economicly harder that way
You are a worthy lord ahead of it's time.
thank you
You buy wood that are already cut by the seller
I mean, the wood you purchased had to come from somewhere
yeah. your point being?
When there is no food on the map, I usually go for religion and positive fear factor. You get positive popularity and don't have to bother with food/ale. You get worse production, but stronger military.
Yeah there's a lot you can do, fear factor, religion, bread production even if you're on negative fear factor
+ 5 positive fear factor and a church and cathedral are enough to stop the hunger and then get beer for tax reasons.
@@Jefflenious or buy all types of food for popularity boost and tax them
Dude watching your videos has really helped me be a better player, i wouldn't dare play online or anything but ive made it pretty far through the crusader trails! As a kid i thought it was impossible! Im running into trouble now but im leaps and bounds ahead of where i was thanks to you, thanks for putting in the work!
A true classic :) I remember having done something similar in the past, except it was freebuild mode and I just spawned some bandits and invasions at some point. Booming up to a million gold also went considerably faster than one would think, but it always has this certain fascination about it, creating something, some thriving castle, from nothing but dust and sand.
This is essentially how resource-poor but industry-heavy economies operate.
They buy raw material and manufacture them into higher value finished goods for export.
Need a lot of technical skill, knowhow, and overall education though
My brother and me liked to play against ai with only starting goods. But only one really survived without any outside economy

The advisor is taking a shit through a large portion of this whole challenge. ;)
Just fell in love with this game one more time... So lovely and beautiful to make everything from nothing...
First i think you Will buy Ale and do some taxes
finding this channel was one of the best things that ever happened to me lately...fr
Wow glad you enjoyed my videos! Welcome
The OG Stronghold OST is just beautiful.
All credits to those 4 gigachads.
Tbh they arent gigachads because if they were gigachads theyd realise that rather than them paying all the taxes and conpletely funding the military campaign they could have just abandoned the king and started their own kingdom. They simped to the king because he gave them alcohol and made them drunk at the inn so they couldn't figure this out.
Well done!
I've forgotten how much the soundtrack to this game slaps
looking at this video was like WHAT THE HELL he mades everything from nothing i cant believe this..... i thought it is imposible anf here we are you are absolutely Amazing Mate....
Once you have a merchant you dont need any further starting recources, because you can make money through taxation (I recommend +7/-2 in turn). Takes a while though.
One of the questions I never knew I actually really have to know the answer for.
you open my minds about economy
Very nice ! like that much !
Cool challenge, I would have never thought of something like that
I think I'm gonna go back to Stronghold at some point. It was so great game!
absolute legend
You can also have your grain industry on one side and the wood industry on the other side of stock pile for more efficiency
wow cool, i never thought of that before
Local lord summons army from nowhere by engaging in trade arbitrage
I use this economy style on some of the resource starved map on the trails. :) Smart!
Adding mangonels, moat, traps, maybe pitch to the enemy defenses could have made it more challenging.
Enough to add shields on towers.
I mean it did have moat and pitch^^ But in the end, once the "survival" part was done, the "conquering" part was inevitably won already, just a matter of time at that point.
one of the beast games ever built
Instructive!
I didn't know that last 4 peasent will never leave you
W to the devs for actually making a way to bounce back. ❤
Do this again, only this time have the enemy ai attacking you. Thats a real challenge I think.
What do you mean by "shouldn't be too hard" it looks insane
Its not hard, just require patience
don't understand how this can be "insane" when this game always have this comeback tricks since game reliease like free lumbermill/market when you don't have any wood or first 4 citizens, which stay with you even if you get the lowest possible popularity.
Another question is that can he do the same against actual ai lords, including Richard...
@@MaSuDezender it was a joke
@@MaSuDezender since when is the market free?
@@delfinenteddyson9865 it's an UCP-Option... mostly to prevent AIs from breaking down completely when out of wood during a siege, but also for preventing human players to "deadlock" themselves
yeah I figured out this strategy and with starting gold of just 2000, you can defend yourself in any mission against no matter how many opponents, just build an armory and three archeries, spend the rest of gold on 40 bows and spawn archers. To make more money and archers produce bows with 2 and one use to produce crossbows to sell for money(switch as needed). to defend yourself against all catapults and melee units build a square tower with a balista a gate with drawbridge and wall plus moat around everything You get a really compact castle that's easy to defend.
Barracks, stone barracks, trader and enginer's are built outside behind the castle and a moat around them to prevent anyone from destroying them. Also build 5 gallows to have them produce two bows/crossbows at once for same amount of wood.
Later you should build more square towers near the castle or far away, if enemy is within reach of the towers with purchased stone to house archers and additional balistas or catapults if you are want to trash the ai castle while waiting for gold. Also build a 4th archery to speed up crossbow production when you are not spawning troops and block it off with wall when you are.
Once you have defences up all you do is purchase wood and sell crossbows, when you reach 10k gold, then you shut off the 4th archery to get a peasant and then you just keep spawning horse archers, assassins catapults and balistas until you run out of money, then you are all set to attack so you destroy the gallows and replace them with gardens to give your troops a boost when sieging.
It's easy if you don't wanna bother with maintaining popularity, economy and building an actual castle, but it takes a while
brilliant
How did you construct the first building (the store) without wood
Wow indeed a genius
This is why craftmanship is more rewarding
as long as the enemy is not harassing you at the beginning all you need is patience xD
Quick question: Does it matter where you build the inn? I mean if you build it further away from the stockpile does it affect how quick it serves the ale?
no but it should be near enough so that the worker can bring the barrel in time before the stored ale runs out in the Inn. (you can check the stored ale when clicking the inn)
@@hidayatullah3943 yes but unless you build on the other side of the map it’s fine
It doesn't rly matters , they have some ale stocks in Inn , and they don't have big consumption , everyone is building Inn far from centre because drunk guys are blocking you from building
@@hidayatullah3943 yes but u can place the stockpile near it by dragging the piles till there and then destroy the center stock piles and place some ale production building near it and farms Right?(if possible)
@@rohaankhan9768 well you dont need to wait that long.. i always do that... just delete the first stockpile as soon as the game starts.. you will lose about 10 wood but its worth it
THANK YOU VERY MUCH SIR FOR THIS VIDEO. INCOMPARABLE!! SIMPLY WOW! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
If you have at least 5 wood you can get very rich in this game even in bare dessert
I boom my custom castle builders out of nothing. There's something fascinating about watching a stronghold built from scratch.
The power of the trade :P
The version of this game in my computer requires wood to build the market
without the patch this would not be possible because the market usually costs 5 wood
Good, but can you do it on a foggy night in Stoke against six wolves?
Peasants: We built this city...
We built this city on rock and roll!
The Lord just disappeared. lol
Wonderful
question, did you put stronghold 1 music in the video, or do you have a mode that adds original stronghold 1 music into stronghold crusader? I'm asking cause i think stronghold 1 music is much better than stronghold crusader music
Drop Stronghold 1 music into Stronghold Crusader's music folder and it'll play automatically from my experience with Stronghold Europe.

Good Ol Ale
oh cool, i did the same challenge but i used highly scared population to make shittons of expensive bread out of flour and kept them happy with faith and additional rations
i was surprised that it can sustain itself but i know that selling thousands of pieces of bread is much better than any taxation
Impressive
When u do max payment. And build 2 crossbow makers, next better is religion 250 gold. Next food
Hey, can you do a video on braziers? I wonder whether they actually provide bonus damage or not, since it's free to make.
They dont. Tried it myself and seen someone else do it. They are purely for lighting pitch.
I believe it make your archers weaker.

I never tried it out myself, but I heard that wells always have workers on them, no matter your popularity. if that's true, you could've spammed a bunch of those to collect more taxes
But look in the 0:21 the guy had 37 gold and 4 peasants already and one well cost 30 gold so it is still better to collect money for crossbow workshop. Because worker from well won't go away but there wil be no new workers to became firemen.
Props to the military industrial complex, carrying the entire economy.

In this time of fear
When prayer so often proves in vain
Hope seems like the summer bird
Too swiftly flown away
Yet now I'm standing here
My hearts so full, I can't explain
Seeking faith and speakin' words
I never thought I'd say
There can be miracles
When you believe (When you believe)
Though hope is frail, it's hard to kill (Mmm)
Who knows what miracles you can achieve? (You can achieve)
When you believe, somehow you will
You will when you believe.
How you place the market place with no wood? Somehow you still managed to place it when cost 5 wood.
What's Ucp? I was wondering how you got the marketplace when the marketplace costs 5 wood... Then the video description says it's free with Ucp, but what's Ucp?
Unofficial Crusader Patch, I have a video for installation guide and everything!
you can skip your popularity to 75, when its very low when you recruit someone . that helps sometimes.
How he set market and granary 😅😅 but keep it up😊
the best survival game
fun play, great music choice xD why u put inn so far?
Inns don't need to be close! Unlike production buildings
Damm u are great
TIL it takes more than one piece of wood to make a bow. I always thought it was just wood = 1 bow. I didn't know it was multiple trips, and I have played for more than a decade on and off.
little tip: 5 bows give you less gold while 5 pikes give you 30 gold per piece
church+cathedral+max happiness = no need for food.
Want to try this method online, when you play roll a dice to select a NPC lord, congrats, you can only use what the lord uses as units and buildings, have fun!
nice idea
stronghold crusader played with stronghold 1 music is so balanced
You could max fear to fasten the gold making progress.
Yeah I could go for bread production + fear factor, but I already had enough to attack
@@Jefflenious I'm also surprised you didn't go for religion. At least the constant +3 from church and cathedral definitely are nice to have, and with such concentrated eco, even blessing % is quite manageable to get up quite far.
Why, you might ask? Well, taxing your workers indefinitely is less click-intensive than relying solely on repeatedly selling crossbows manually and buying hundreds and thousands of wood over and over, and it also provides a safety net via constant guaranteed income in case you run out of wood and gold due to recruiting.
Also... you could go for a "religion and waterpots only" booming build with +5 fear factor, without beer/food or any other "consumable resources", then eventually set up highest taxes to -24, as waterpot / well workers never leave the castle even at 0 popularity. (A bit cheesy, I know, but it saves lots and lots of market trade spam clicking in the long run, and without incoming attacks or time limits its kinda cheesy at that point anyway, no matter what "booming build" one has chosen :D)
How to you playing custom scenario with People generating ? Can you tell me please
Real Life Japan in Stornghold Crusader.
Can we SC fans try somehow make bigger maps? It must be possible changing its limit somewhere in game files or tweak the engine.
How did you build granary and merchandise post without any resources? After you got those two, the rest is eazy

I would base my economy on positive fear factor and religion
I would say the same

And that ladies and gentlemen is why most scenarios need to have limited trade options.

@Gamer_Gangster7 I completed almost half campain with no resources, so yes
Depends. If there's literally 0 starting ressources and units, then probably yes, simply because the AI has a set build order and will take way too long to really get going.
Funnily enough, out of the bunch, I think the Sultan might actually work best in this scenario because his economy works without outside ressources to begin with.
Reminds me of Minecraft one block skyblock games
Yeah initially wanted to name the challenge "Skyblock challenge"
