Youth to the People has a c serum with both plus the magnesium version of vitamin c. I’ve been using it for 2 months with great success. So far results have plateaued but have left me with brighter, more even, healthier looking skin. I’m definitely okay with that.
Just wanted to give you a heads up about Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate vs Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate which have a different structure (potentially significant difference in ability for the skin to utilise these chemicals). For whatever reason the names seem to be used interchangeably by many brands. They do have the same molecular weight and seem to have been registered under the same CAS number, which doesn’t help either. But, they are not the same chemical. In cosmetics you actually want Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, based on safety and efficacy data, hence the cost. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate on the other hand has very little efficacy and safety data. Hope this helps :)
Good to know - The Ordinary sells what it calls Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate on the front of the box; if you look at the ingredients' list though, it says tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate.

The products in this video are unfortunately very expensive. I will look at your other videos to see whether you have recommendations for more affordable 3-O Ethyl Ascorbic Acid products for sensitive skin.
I've used many bottles of the Glow Recipe Guava serum which I love, but it's soooo expensive. I also used Dr Vanita's Antioxidant power serum which also has Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate but is much cheaper with a nice gel texture. I much prefer derivatives as pure vitamin C always oxidises and irritates my skin. I find that Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is really rare among vitamin C serums, but I heard it's it's an expensive ingredient.

I heard from a dermatologist that you can not shrink pores, she said it is like wanting your ankle to be smaller-not possible :( I wish there was a solution, my pores need some serious help.
@@lulu233345 it is definitely possible (I did it) by improving texture and building collagen, but it takes a lot of knowledge, skin care, money, time and hard work to improve skin texture and pores. A bha toner and clay mask will surely not make it.
Hi! I watch your videos with great interest. I was wondering what is your opinion of PEGs in skincare products (regarding the risk of contamination with dangerous substances). Thank you very much!
Thanks so much for this video I have been using Allies of Skin for years now and have noticed a huge difference. I do mix in other brands when I feel like I need a change, I just always seem to go back to them so I thank you for the recommendations.
Thanks for this recommendation. Didn't know they did one so will check out in our local pharmacy during the week. Very reasonable price here in Europe. Hugs from Ireland everyone. Take care.
THDA and ATIP are probably my two favorite derivatives. I'm currently testing and liking the 35 % Vitamin C Serum from SobelSkinRx: that one contains 3-O ethyl ascorbic acid, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, and ascorbyl glucoside. The texture on it is nice, too: I find a lot of products with high levels of 3-O ethyl ascorbic acid are often in organic solvent bases, which tend to sting on my skin after shaving, but the SobelSkinRx one is like a lightweight lotion and non-irritating. The Glow Recipe one sounds neat, so I may give that one a try in the future 😁
@@alm621 unfortunately, no: I haven't come across any dupes for it. Are there any online US retailers that will export it to Italy? A few places other than their official website also sell it, such as Sephora.
I'm wondering what us the ph of those serums? Bc tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate works around pH 5 and sodium ascorbyl phosfate works around 7. So 1 of those forms is inactive, isnt working.
@@EspadasYCopas it's slightly below 5. I can only find one source that recommends a pH of 7 to avoid hydrolysis of SAP, but even then, it's probably the derivative I care least about, so I don't really care if it degrades. Also, it's only one serum I have that employs SAP, and that one also uses EAA, THDA, and AA2G, so it's not reliant on SAP to function.
You are right about the solvent. Ordinary, Niod , Facetheory all use propanediol (sticky mess). Would love to try SobelSkin Rx but can't use THD is comedogenic for me. Minimalist has 15% EAA that is water-based. I love the formula, but I need a 20% water-based formula

Two thd ascorbate products I quite like, with reasonable price points: 1) Paula's Choice Super Antioxidant Serum; silicone base 2) Kylie skin vitamin C serum*** I can't believe I like this one; celebrity skincare is an annoying trend. So gentle on my sensitive skin
The Kylie is amazing but such a small bottle. I used the ordinary tetra & vitamin f when my Kylie ran out and found it equally effective of not more… x

I am in Canada and love the Sunday Riley serum. The bottle is opaque, the color is white and has no scent. Surprised to see yours not fully opaque with some color
Thanks for this! And how about 2-O Ethyl Ascorbate?
Could you please do a video on what ingredients to avoid? I'm becoming more aware of skincare (thanks to you), and will start using products you recommend, but I've still got some other products left that I'm a little hesitant to use now.
Thank you for providing us with such great scientifically-based information!!
Good morning 😀. Fantastic video as usual. Would like more clarification on when or how to incorporate acids. Bha,aha, glycolic with vitamin c in morning or evening but also with retinols. How to fit it in 2-3 days a week of acids along the other serums. Thanks 🇨🇦
I think I'm more confused, but I still find it helpful
Agree
I bought the glow recipe vitamin c and love it, no break outs so gentle and smells divine, thank you so much for your amazing tips and product recommendations ❤❤❤
MAP made my sunspots worse so three days ago I switched to 3OEAA, hope everything works out 🤞🏻
I would LOVE if you could do a review of Glowbiotics. Especially their Vitamin C serum 💖
Dr. Idriss please make a video on neck filler for tech neck or how to treat it, I'm 18 and I have 2 lines that are already pretty bad. Everyone says your neck shows age first and I already have pigmentation just from my genes. I'd love to see a term in person when I can afford it but there's barely any non sponsored information.
I love these deep dives you make! You're my most trusted yt derm.
🎁🎁🎁🎁👆🌹 message that number🔝🔝🔝🔝
Thought I understood and knew Vit C 🥴. I love your explanations and similes. Thank you
My first saturday video!! Thanks for all the information you give us💖
Thank you for this video! THD sounds amazing and I hope that future studies continue to validate its efficacy. Hoping you can make a video on microneedling soon!
For oily skin nerds: do you still feel SAP is the best choice for vitamin C? Any updated SAP products you like?
An oily skin means lack of zinc in the diet...
What is SAP line? Thanks!
@@Sufferingsassafrass Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate
@@johnguzmandiaz thank you! 😅
I personally love love Mad Hippie’s vita C with SAP. I’ve tried so many others for months at a time and nothing showed me results like Mad Hippie. Ulta sometimes has deals in the US and CA, but worth it at full price.
So informative! Look forward to these videos every. single. week. xo
Which of these Vitamin C’s would you recommend for acne prone, wrinkled, combination skin?
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is good for acne prone skin, she mentions that in her previous vitamin c video:)
@@Lucy-pd3xy does she mention what product to find that in?
@@teresasaxena6452 yes, she mentions three in the video from a year ago, I would search that on youtube, I can’t remember their names. And then there’s also one that she didn’t mention in that video, Mad Hippie’s vitamin C serum:)
@@teresasaxena6452 you’re welcome, good luck!:)
Thank you for this information and review. My skin cannot tolerate L ascorbic acid and I am always looking for other forms for sensitive skin.
I used The Glow Recipe one too(I received it free from my work thank gosh) So no difference and yes its quite expensive and not with the cost imo.
Have you tried the ordinary one
what did you think of vanita's serum? worth buying? thanks!
@@scrawnyrani it was ok, it was too expensive though
Can you use this under eyes?
I love the Kate Ryan Vitamin C Daytime Repair Serum (THD) and priced well. Loaded with additional great ingredients.
I thought it was expensive since it is only 1/2 oz.
You videos have completely helped transform my skin and skin care routine. Thank you so much for all you do! I have less breakouts, less pimples and my skin is even brighter 😭💕💕💕💕🙏🏻
Informative and perfect video!
But I can’t stop thinking about the colourful hot pink, orange and green products behind you all the time😳 What are theyyyy, I wanna knooowww
Your all videos are so aesthetic i am just love it❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Please tell us more about those beautiful bracelets!!
Would you be open to doing a video specifically on pore minimization? Thanks for your videos! They’ve dramatically improved my skin 🤗🙏🏾🤗
I heard from a dermatologist that you can not shrink pores, she said it is like wanting your ankle to be smaller-not possible :( I wish there was a solution, my pores need some serious help.
Try niacinamide, clay masks and even ascorbic acid. I heard many people saying they noticed improvements..
@@lulu233345 it is definitely possible (I did it) by improving texture and building collagen, but it takes a lot of knowledge, skin care, money, time and hard work to improve skin texture and pores. A bha toner and clay mask will surely not make it.
The Sunday Riley also does NOT have hyaluronic acid which is what I was looking for. It's hard to find a Vitamin C serum without it.
This was really good but please some lower costs options. Does Inky list or ordinary have anything similar?
I've been waiting for this!! Yay! Thank you!
I was wondering though what do you think about Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate? is it the same as THD?
No THA is not same as THD, but they are similar. Google both names.
Reported this response- Text me on Telegram.
Helpful yessss always!!! I am married to my vitamin c from la roche posay my skin really likes that one! Thx Dr you are adorable ❤️
Thanks for this recommendation. Didn't know they did one so will check out in our local pharmacy during the week. Very reasonable price here in Europe. Hugs from Ireland everyone. Take care.
did you notice any britening? I used THD and didn't notice anything in my skin...
Oh nooo I want to try this but isn’t avaible in italy… do you know a dupe?
Hi dr. Idriss, thank you for sharing your knowledge, you definitely taught me a lot. Something I would like you to talk about EGF and especially in connection to cancer. Thank you and many wishes from Germany :)
Thankyou for introducing the product of TDH 💕💕💕
Can you do a video on best antioxidant serums next?
3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid is the one in BOOST UP by Trinny London, so far I'm so impressed with her products but I'd love to see what you think of her vitamin C serum and her approach to exfoliants etc
Thank you Dr. Would you consider doing a video on micro needling? I did a quick search but did not see a video on this topic. Thank you.
Dr. Idriss, what are your thoughts on the timeless vit c?
Love love love 🤩the way you explain everything🤩
im using Laneige Radian C moisturizer. So far it is pretty good but because of my combi skin, i don't use it daily and only use it in the morning
hello, excited to try your products! my question for you is can I use vitamin c products along with retinol? love your videos, my skin looks so much better since I have been following you!
Hey Dr. Idriss...What's your take on Aminopropyl Ascorbyl Phosphate? Available in Advanced Clinicals Vitamin C Serum? No % mentioned there but it contains Ferulic Acid which you mentioned is a plus. How does it work for dehydrated Oily to Combination skin?
Yes I love vitamin c recommendations and options to have. Thank you for coming back to further expand. 💕
Hi @DrShereeneIdriss, wanted to know your thoughts about Elizabeth Arden’s Vitamin C Ceramide Capsules Radiance Renewal Serum. I am intrigued by this product as each dose is encapsuled, thus preventing air exposure to protect the active ingredients. Would love your thoughts on the formulation!
Also side question, I know that avocado oil can be a beneficial ingredient for some, but have you seen that it can be commonly sensitizing? Thanks, would really appreciate a response! :)
Hi Doc, I’d love to know your thoughts on finger lime extract and Kakadu plum extract as “vitamin C ingredients” in skincare produces. They seem to be popping up a bit in Australian skincare e.g. Go-to much brighter skin and Biologi products. Love watching your videos and have been enjoying trying out lots of your recommendations.
I'm waiting for your serum. I hope you'll make it available to be ship in Philippines too.
Love this video! What do you think of the Timeless Vitamin C? I think it’s affordable and works amazing but I would love to hear your thoughts.
My aesthetician told me that due to my reoccurring hormonal breakouts, I should avoid vitamin c. Based in this video, Is my best bet the summer Fridays formula?
Thanks for the information. I was wondering if you can make a video of a skin routine with affordable products pls.
Two thd ascorbate products I quite like, with reasonable price points:
1) Paula's Choice Super Antioxidant Serum; silicone base
2) Kylie skin vitamin C serum*** I can't believe I like this one; celebrity skincare is an annoying trend. So gentle on my sensitive skin
Thanks for recommending! I never thought about a product from Kylie Skin
..but this one looks good!
The Kylie is amazing but such a small bottle. I used the ordinary tetra & vitamin f when my Kylie ran out and found it equally effective of not more… x
Great information, thank you! I'm trying summer Fridays because I'm already oily, especially in summer. One question: I use a copper peptide serum at night which the doctorly doctors say would deactivate vitamin c. Do you agree? Thanks so much for putting all of this great information out there! 🥰
