Cats have the benefit of purring - no other animal can reduce stress, blood pressure etc like a cat who is purring. Phantom is beautiful and one of many exceptional pet therapy CATS! More and more people are learning more and more that cats are amazing!
My Father-in-law was a big strong retired military man and a dog lover. Sadly, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. When he was in the final stage he was forgetting a lot. We foster cats and kittens and we were able to let them try out one of our cats. He had never been a cat person but that changed immediately. Most of the time he didn't remember his own home but he woke up every morning asking for the cat and it sat beside him and he loved to pet it or just watch it play.
Phantom is a very special cat. He's a big guy, but a gentle giant. Personally, I'd prefer a cat over a dog. It's amazing how much they can change people's outlook. I don't know where I'd be without my cats. Each have their own personality, yet love you unconditionally.
Two of the most neglected groups in modern society... our elderly and "pets" that find themselves in need of a home... you folks are doing something wonderful here. I just hope that I find similar kindness in my twilight years.
Thank you - it is our honor to serve the community and we are so grateful to our volunteers and their pets for bringing happiness and healing to people's lives.
I feel exactly the way you do about animals. They are gifts from God. My cats are my best friends and part of my family. I'm never lonely with them around.
I think it would be great if more cats did this. While a few wound be naturals, one would need to start them at a very young age and consistently bring them around people. Really, nursing homes should have resident pets. I worked in a nursing home that had two cats who lived there full time. I remember my first day, walking onto the floor and sitting there in the hall was a calm, sweet tabby. They interacted with the residents, they seemed to know who didn’t want them around and stayed clear, and everyone was happy. So many people in care have had to leave their pets behind - they shouldn’t have to wait until volunteers bring pets in a few times a month. Pets should be there all along, all the time!!
I am a hospice nursing assistant, I have had several patients that really missed their furry kids. This was so very much a fitting video for me, thank you.
We need more of this kind of thing, so many elderly cannot have pets and this is the purrrrfect solution thank you for sharing your handsome cat phantom! he is gorgeous and wonderful
Phantom makes me cry! 😭😭🥰 he is one seriously special kitty! i just can’t believe how calm relaxed and tolerant he is, he’s just amazing 😭❤️ this whole organisation is just amazing! ❤️
I don’t know why cats are not all over these care facilities. They help calm and relieve depression and having a job to care for these cats would be a positive thing
Bless you for the wonderful work you - and your Therapy Pets - do. I pray that if I am ever in a Nursing Home, I may have a Therapy Cat to visit me. I'm nervous of dogs after being frightened by an overexuberant labrador when I was a tiny child, but cats are such a comfort to me. I have a chronic illness, and my two cats are my snuggle buddies when I'm confined to bed. Phantom is an angel in furry form; thank you Nancy for sharing him.
Same I am afraid of dogs but cats are different they are so adorable and having these precious babies help us calm down and all that cats are amazing but dog people and dog people that hate cats for no reason they wouldn’t understand
@@letyrxy cats are frightening too, they can scratch your eyes out and throw stuff at you from the height when walking by to say that cats are different is a double standard and makes no sense, you're judging the entire species of animals based on 1, 2 personal experiences when the reality is that there are different breeds of dogs and cats that display different behavior and they behave differently also based on training, labradors are widely known to be family dogs but if the owner doesn't train them they can cause damage, same with cats there are breeds which are more ferocious and breeds that are calmer and it also depends how the owner treats them, but cat people and cat people who hate dogs wouldn't understand
Love this video and I personally have experienced and witnessed how healing animals especially cats can be. I googled my local pet therapy organisation here in Australia and made a donation. Keep up the great and beautiful work. 😻
I cannot believe that three miserable people had the nerve to give this video a thumbs down. You truly must be unhappy individuals. Beautiful video! Spread the love!
Hi Kermit! Unfortunately our in-person visits are "on paws", BUT we are adapting and doing virtual visits with many program partners in our area, including virtual visits with COVID nurses at UAB Hospital! We are excited to reach people in this virtual way and our teams are rockstars!! We look forward to growing our virtual programs and helping even more people in need.
People always underestimate cats ability to calm and heal. Cats are lovely animals and have different personalities just like people. Just as every dog isn't suitable for this type of work the same goes for cats, but those who can are wonderful for those they visit.
Our 13yo English Setter, Shannon, is a therapy dog. Many years ago, on her first few vested visits to Mt. St. Joseph's (Waterville, ME) retirement home, we were joined by a therapy cat named Smokey. He got along w/ the other dogs, and was equally good being petted in a lap, or gently playing interactively w/ the residents.
I visited my Mother daily in an assisted living facility with around 75 residents. There was only one other resident who got almost daily visits by a daughter. Elderly people are the most neglected in our society.
Awe how precious! God love em! My kitty is my companion animal. I don't know what I'd do without him. I thank God every day for my sweet kitty, Small Fry. God bless you all
My kitty, Giles, would visit my grandma when she was in a nursing home and after he visited her, he'd go and visit other patients. I had people asking me to bring Giles to visit their loved ones. He was never trained but he loved visiting. He's almost 17 years old now.
If it's not already I hope animals visit come back really soon waching thus video and others like it you can easily see just how important it us not just to the patients but the staff the petland the owners as well.
Phantom is such a special cat. However you spelled something wrong in the description. I'm a medical professional & what he's giving is a Happiness Purrscription! Wonderful!
i dont think its impossible to train them but i think cats become therapy animals because of their temperament which is smth they obtain naturally or are born with, i imagine very calm cats that can handle being cuddled a lot and dont mind strangers, which is hard to train
@@olivertwists Okay, thank you. I didn't know if you had to do any sort of training with them, like teaching them to walk on a leash. Or if you needed to expose them to lots of different people, situations, or dogs?
I wish we could find a way to have round the clock animal duty at senior's facilities! Those folks can often be very lost with no purpose and few visitors. BINGO! Suddenly they're awake and interested. I hate to think how fast that interest fades when the animal leaves.
Our volunteers and their pets form a very special bond with all those they visit, especially seniors. In a pre and post-pandemic world, our teams make therapy visits on a regularly scheduled basis, so they always know we'll be back!
What if a person is in a nursing home. They are allergic to cats. The cat will cause inflammation in the lungs of someone who is already having trouble breathing. I wonder how many nursing homes let cats into patients rooms. Where's the patient then suffers from cat allergies. I love cats but I do worry about how bad they can be to some people

We love Phantom as well as our Sphnyx therapy cat, Herbie!

Cats are wonderful creatures! Phantom is a big hit wherever he goes!
Making me cry to see how much love the kitty and volunteers give to lonely folks.
They are truly amazing and we are so lucky to have them as part of our organization!

Animals are blessings from God. I have been a cat daddy for many years and they are like little angels for me.

I call my cats "Little people in fur pajamas".
Awwww🥰❤️ they are the biggest blessing😌
Cats are one of the most misunderstood animals. They have so much good and so pure love for those who are loyal to them.
Phantom is a wonderful therapy cat!! Many congrats toNancy and Phantom!

Animals are truly a blessing in so many ways.
Cats are the original ASMR artists. They have a hypnotic quality.
Thank you for the love you bring to those seniors!
It is our pleasure! We believe in the comfort and joy only therapy animals can provide!
Phantom is BEAUTIFUL! what a great thing these folks r doing !
If I'm ever unlucky enough to wind up in a nursing home, I pray that they'll have therapy cats.

Feel free to follow us on social media @HandinPawAL for a lot more heartwarming therapy animal content!

Kitties are wonderful to encourage the elderly to relate to others
God bless these volunteers! Animals are amazing creatures and their love is unconditional!

I love this. Seeing the looks on elderly people's faces when they are with animals is priceless, it is almost therapy in itself for viewers.
I volunteered at a nursing home in highschool and once a week, I got to bring a bunny around to visit with the residents. It was great. ❤
Kitty's Making Buiscuts in your lap is a Wholesome experience
It’s crazy, but more than a few times, I’ve felt sick or just sad and hug my purring kitty and it helps! God gives us a lot to in these creatures.
Animal-Assisted Therapy helps release endorphins that manipulate perceptions of pain and stress!

After watching this, I think I will start going out more with my cat to visit homes.
You can't just bring them into places.

Such a amazing program 💖 Cats and Dogs are Healer ❤️❤️❤️🐈🐕
I think these days, the C19 keeps those friendly cat- and dog-shaped faces from doing their selfless work...
