Don't quote me on this since I got in from watching QG's retrospective on the series, and it's been a while since I watched it so I could be wrong.
Fun Fact: Dr. Doom was originally planned to be in this game, but because Acclaim made a mediocre Fantastic Four game for PS1 in which he was the final boss in, Marvel told Capcom not to use him. He was replaced by Omega Red. Similarly, Iron Man was originally going to be in this game, but Acclaim made Iron Man and XO Manowar in Heavy Metal, which prevented Iron Man from appearing. He was replaced with Cyclops.
UMvC3 on PS3 didn’t have Jill & Shuma-Gorath by default, you still had to buy them seperately, but like OP said, the 8th-Gen Release of UMvC3 did include both characters by default + the DLC outfits, all of which went away when the PS3/360 versions got delisted originally.

Damn, no Norimaro. Whether people ignore or not. I saw it a bunch, loved it. It added things that would stay in the series like Assists, Hidden Characters including characters that would appear in other games like Cyber Akuma, Mech Zangief, Dark Sakura, etc. Also, an AMAZING Announcer. A fun game to play that I wish was more appreciated. Also Violent Ken was from SNK vs Capcom Chaos, then later Ultra SF2. Also all MvC games except 2 & 3 are uneven rosters. XvSF has Akuma who unevens it, MSH vs SF has Norimaro where the logo is but is considered Capcom, MvC1 is uneven as Spider-Man is inbetween 2 Capcom characters, Infinite is just Marvel getting revenge.
Actually, I read that they went with Shuma-Gorath because they just liked the design. That's pretty much it. And in all fairness, deep-cut picks like that make crossover fighters more interesting than if they just went with the big boys.
Actually it’s because they wanted a non-humanoid fighter in Marvel Super Heroes and they saw that Shuma-Gorath fit that bill. When Capcom asked Marvel to use him, Marvel actually forgot they created the character and let them use him in the game.
Well Elliott, it wasn't Shuma Gorath in Dr Strange MoM (because of legal reaction since he debuted in a Conan comic). It was Gargantos, who is a Namor villian and another Squid villian lol
Ouch, as a lover and fan of UMVSC3; hearing Uncle just denying it ever exists like as if it was the worst thing ever really stings. I was hoping he was misremembering things that he got it mixed up with MVC:I the game that MANY want to forget ever existed.
Capcom wasn't the main problem with umvc3, funnily enough. That was marvel not willing to budge on a holiday release date THAT YEAR to go with the home release of one of The Avengers movies iirc, which is why all the marvel additions in the roster were involved with projects marvel was making movie and TV series wise. This sucks because that year was that tsunami disaster in japan that affected the development cycle to the point we missed out on at least SIX characters because of that and Marvel being jerks. Also, marvel was the reason most of the problems MVCI had existed in the first place, mainly the budget and the roster and the fact that sigma, black panther, and monster hunter weren't in the base game because, again, marvel was not willing to budge on the release date. The story mode, however, was mostly capcom, iirc.
@@arkdetective I don't really think Iron Fist, Rocket Raccoon, & Nova are in cause of projects because Richard Rider still hasn't made an appearance since they started the MCU, no one thought GoTG would be the success it is, and the Netflix projects came in incredibly later & have been considered mostly noncanon even when they bring back the actors. @SeelkadoomandJokic00 Nova did show up literally a couple months later in the ultimate spider-man cartoon on disney DX, which his alt in UMVC3 was a reference to as that was the design they went with in the cartoon (which wasn't the particular nova they went with in UMVC3, but the point still stands that that was on purpose as they said when they revealed the alt costume, "we can't talk about this yet,"), Iron fist took forever to pop up in something with a film originally in production for almost a decade before becoming a show instead starting production in 2013, ghost rider was in a movie that same year by sony, Doctor Strange had been in some form of production since the MCU was officially annouced to be happening, and rocket racoon was in GOTG which started production in 2009 and officially annouced the year after UMVC3's release.. All projects Marvel had in various stages of development at the time. Meanwhile, Hawkeye was the most obvious "we added him since he was an avenger in the MCU and / or was in the avengers movies" pick other than black widow and loki, whom i bet both would've been in UMVC3 if it wasn't for all the stuff I mentioned along with X, Gene, Asura, and John Talban on the capcom side, which we know they didn't make it into UMVC3 because of all that.
@arkdetective You bringing up Sam Alexander in the show isn't really parallel to the MCU situation as, in the comics, they were pushing Sam as the new Nova because Richard died way before the cartoon or the MCU situation, there wasn't too many alt costumes to choose from too. As I said, they picked Rocket instead of any other character that would be more appealing, like Drax, Gamora, or Star Lord (& again no one knew it would actually be successful), & as you said Iron Fist took forever, in fact the film was in development the same year MvC2 came out, it being in development hell still during MvC3 still put it's own status in a questionable position (and still started WAY before the MCUs growth). Again, they might have been picked, but their inclusion still stayed in the tradition of how varied MvC was with putting in obscure characters & bigger properties together in one big slapfest.
@SeelkadoomandJokic00 you are right that rocket, nova, and iron fist all fit the "oddball pick," that capcom loves, but my point still stands that they were all in projects a side of Marvel had in production which, at the time, were two MCU films and one TV series made by their in house animation studio. I love this series so much, dood. I love these characters despite all this. Honestly, if it wasn't for this game, I wouldn't be the big rocket raccoon fan I am today, who i only knew barely before then.
One of my favorite fighting games of all time and my very first! I love playing this game in the arcades growing up! My best friend was Ryu and I was Ken. We both had hard time, beating the final boss. But we finally managed to do it. Such much fun memories playing this game back in the day. And that soundtrack. So good and memorable!
Ok, i need to make a correction from the last Marvel game. THIS is the game where Wolverine can build 3 bars really quickly by doing super jump and spamming medium punch and has the super that increases his speed so you can just combo with crouching heavy punch. And because that super costs 1 bar, if you time it correctly after the super ends, you can combo your last crouching heavy punch back into that super and continue the combo
@@smashmaster521 he could only do it in this game. Marvel 2 had a similar thing if not crazier because it's an infinite, especially in this collection with online rollback, because it's so fast that the rollback can't keep up with it so Wolverine just ends up teleporting

I just played it for the first time recently and it's pretty solid to me. I prefer the other crossover games personally, but I like the presentation of this one. And the soundtrack is one of my favourites, too.
This was my first VS game, never played COTA, MSH or XvSF and it would be the only VS game I would have under my belt until Tatsunoko vs Capcom in high school. Definitely get why this game isn't remembered or well known since it came out six months after XvSF and it got immediately overshadowed by MvC1 due to having a way better better. But this game easily has my favorite presentation. That announcer is just too hype. I love the soundtrack a lot too, Wolverine, Cyclops, Ryu and Omega Red's themes are bangers.
The Round One I used to work at actually had a Marvel Heroes vs. Street Fighter machine. Sadly, it alongside a smidgen of other fighters got removed some time after I left the place.
To answer Uncle's question about the lack of OG DB representation in Sparking Zero; if I were to take a guess as to the reason why it's probably due to the inclusion of DB Super characters though at the very least Kid Goku, Master Roshi, Master Roshi Max Power and Yajirobe are still in the game. My guess is that more OG DB will probably be included in the eventual 2nd season of DLC or a sequel since Season 1 is gonna be solely based on Super Hero and Daima content. Budokai Tenkaichi 1 similarly had only Kid Goku, Master Roshi, Mercenary Tao and the default Great Ape. BT2 added in Master Roshi Max Power, Yajirobe and Grandpa Gohan, with the Japanese/PAL Wii port adding in Demon King Piccolo, Cyborg Tao, Pilaf Machine and Pilaf Machine Combined. BT3 added in the most OG DB content with Android 8, Kid Chi Chi, Devilman, General Blue, Arale and Nam as well as actually having an OG Dragonball storymode.
I fondly remember this version cause of a grocery store arcade cabinet, my friend owning the PS1 version and this being one of the few games to have Ryu and Ken do double Shinku Hadoken beams.

This was the most recent MvC game I played, I went to see my Mom in Utah a while back and there was a cabinet at an arcade called Nickel City. Was SF3 new at the time or was it a coincidence?

I'm sure they figured it out, but this collection adds the boss characters to the playable roster. They're just off-screen. Also, the Japanese version of this game has a character not in the English version at all, and he is in the collection. You just have to select the Japanese version on the collection menu.
3:36 No he was not in FRESH Off the Boat, though its Star, Randall Park was in Marvel and DC stuff including Ant-Man and the Wasp and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
This game has many issues, but it's still my personal favorite capcom vs game. It just has this energy to it that no other game in the series has and I always end up having a blast with it
Did play this game once in a game store where there was a bunch of arcade cabinets, skee ball, basketball and a pool table. Gave MSH VS SF a try using Ken & The Hulk and made all the to Cyber Akuma and got my ass handed to me
Yeah it’s Sparking Zero that doesn’t have a lot of OG Dragon Ball rep, since BT3 got quite a lot of them. Like we got Eighter and Commander Blue of all people.
It's so weird seeing this game's existence considering the only vs series that I've played back in those days were the likes of X-men vs. Streetfighter, Marvel vs. Capcom 1 and 2. Honestly; this game compared to Marvel vs. Capcom 1 seems like it has a much better roster despite it being not as popular as the other games I've mentioned.
In Budokai Tenkaichi 3 we did get dragon ball representation. Kid Goku, General Blue, Mercenary Toa ( And his cyborg variation ) , Yamcha’s DB outfit , Jackie Chun, Tambourine, Pilaf machine, Eighter, Chi-Chi, King piccolo, and Nam. However whether rumors are true or not, there’s leaked upcoming dlc hinting at Dragon ball characters. I say it’s likely true since it would be weird to have Kid Goku ( DB ) and not have anyone else. I believe this to be true, since Yamacha’s DB outfit and Jackie chun return as alternate costumes.
Aaawww man, no Norimaro!!! All you had to do is set the game to Japanese. He is unironically one of my favorite characters to play in the game, simply because i love his sprite work and he is hilarious Despite people ignoring MSHvsSF, calling it the black sheep, or straight up calling it the worst MvC game, this is probably my 3rd favorite game followed by MvC1 and TvC I don't think people give MSHvsSF enough credit and merit. There are a lot of cool aspects to MSHvsSF whether small or big To start off, the announcer, he is incredible. Probably the best announcer in the Mahvel games, followed by the TvC announcer (fun fact is the same announcer for Smash 64 and Ninjala, Jeff Manning). Whoever the announcer is to MSHvsSF really puts his whole heart into it, especially in the intro. Love him. The OST is fantastic, whether it's remixes or new themes on the Marvel side or the new original themes for the whole SF side. On Marvel im really a big fan of Spider-Man's theme in this game, it's probably my favorite version of his theme. Almost feels like Spider-Man is put in a situation to save the world, life or death. I also especially like Omega Red's remix, it's simply so good. Cyclops has such a banger theme too in this game later semi remixed into Captain Commando's theme in MvC1. Lastly, Wolverine's theme in this game is excellent, my favorite theme of his and fits his character so well On the SF side, i especially love, love, LOVE Chun-Li's theme, it just feels so nice and beautiful and straight up my favorite theme of hers in general. M. Bison's theme is incredible in this game too, also being my favorite theme of his in general. Overall great music in this game. Probably the last reason why i come back to this game a lot is the Assist system in this game. Despite being the black sheep of the series, MSHvsSF arguably implemented one of the most important Mechanic in the series with Assists. Compared to the Colossus Assist heavy meta of MvC1 and MvC2/UMvC3 just straight up being Assist heavy, i just like like it in MSHvsSF more since it's more simple, similarly to that of TvC. It really just feels like a helping hand in MSHvsSF unlike spamming them in MvC2 to chip the most damage. Yea, ill defend MSHvsSF til the day i fie. Love this game
These guys don't hate on this game man like honestly I play this game when I was 12 years old and I wasn't even supposed to be in the bar and there arcades and the first time I saw some serious gangsters duke it out and they were drinking beers and they were playing Marvel Superheroes versus Street Fighter I fell in love when I saw all the combos going crazy and everything so I understand some people don't like it but let me tell you that game to me is a gem I like it more than a lot I love Marvel versus Capcom 2 obviously everybody does that but this game to me is an actual Hidden Gem the first time I saw real gangsters with guns in their waists they didn't see each other they took it out with quarters in Marvel Superheroes versus Street Fighter so please don't hate I grew up in a pool hall with this and yes I ate a lot of fries and gravy😂❤
Since Elliot has lost his joke privileges, I want it to continue by him making only overly normal statements, the next Smackdown Sunday~ It'd be so weird.
The black sheep of the Marvel V.S. Capcom series. When it comes to comparing this to XvSF, I think that game has a better soundtrack, but this game has a better roster. Though you can probably chalk that up to me not being an X-Men guy. And I still think this game has some decent songs in it, with my favorites being the themes for Hulk and Akuma. Admittedly, I’m a little sad we weren’t able to see any of the secret characters being played here. Sorry for those who like Norimaro, Armored Spider-Man, or Dark Sakura.
I can do all sorts of crazy stuff in Marvel 2 infinite combos till Valentine I'm looking at you❤ but anyway remember I mean I remember old school sorry we still have infinite combos all day long😂
It's so weird to me they had just Ruby and Weiss in the base roster. Though, Blake and Yang ended up being free. I think the steam version added them in automatically. I'm also disappointed that Rise, Wagner, and Asuka never made it.
A damn shame you guys didn't play the Japanese version for Norimaro. He sucks ass, but he's still an extra character you could've shown off Also in regards to Jill and Shuma Gorath in MvC3, the re release of UMvC3 on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam has the DLC, meaning they're now preserved.
Wait, I thought you were holding Smackdown Sundays off until next week. Isn't that why there wasn't one last Sunday? Because of Halloweenfest? What changed?
I hate the street fighter side of this roster. It's all SF2 plus Sakura and Dan There's like 4 shotoclones (5 if you count Sakura) and this is NOT the type of game you include Dan in. They had the nerve to put Rose in the background instead of putting her in
Also, here's the worst game in the Capcom Marvel fighting game series, ladies and gentlemen. Not because it barely budges from X-Men vs Street Fighter but because it contains FIVE literal recolors it shamelessly claims to be new fighters: Mephisto, USAgent, Dark Sakura, Mecha Zangeif, and Armored Spider-Man. Say what you will about Smash Ultimate, at least the Echo Fighters were aesthetically different. Daisy wasn't just Peach but with auburn hair and an orange dress.

One thing I'll say here: Akuma's theme in this game is unnecessarily snazzy and so good.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who hears Streets of Rage similarities in the music.
This was the most recent MvC game I played, I went to see my Mom in Utah a while back and there was a cabinet at an arcade called Nickel City. There was a lot of cool stuff, Tekken Tag, a 6 person X-men cab, there's even a Baby Pac-Man pinball machine
Surprised you guys didn't go for Norimaro
Grey Dhalsim looks like Necro from Street Fighter 3. Was SF3 new at the time or was it a coincidence?
As Sokka would say to aang :Go to your Room.
19:06
We did get og DB reps in BT3
Kid Goku
Kid Chi Chi
Roshi
Nam
Demon King Piccolo
Tambourine
Android 8
Pilaf
Arale
General Blue
Mercenary Tao/Cyborg Tao
So we did get representation.
I'm pretty sure that Off the Boat bit was a joke...
14:02. Poor uncle silver got into crack. Send thoughts and prayers his way
This game has many issues, but it's still my personal favorite capcom vs game.
There is an option to turn off the flashing lights for the games in this collection
He is unironically one of my favorite characters to play in the game, simply because i love his sprite work and he is hilarious
Despite people ignoring MSHvsSF, calling it the black sheep, or straight up calling it the worst MvC game, this is probably my 3rd favorite game followed by MvC1 and TvC
I don't think people give MSHvsSF enough credit and merit. There are a lot of cool aspects to MSHvsSF whether small or big
To start off, the announcer, he is incredible.
Lastly, Wolverine's theme in this game is excellent, my favorite theme of his and fits his character so well
On the SF side, i especially love, love, LOVE Chun-Li's theme, it just feels so nice and beautiful and straight up my favorite theme of hers in general.
It honestly doesn't look like a bad fighter in my opinion either i love the artstyil and gameplay it looks like a good fun game 😀 😄
Precious heart was the track. Sakura is my favorite street fighter character
Sakura still sticks out to me despite the decades and diverse characters. Probably because I first saw her in Rival Schools instead of Alpha.
Violent ken first appeared in SNK vs capcom SVC chaos then ultra street fighter II the final challengers
13:15 Did he just Uohhhhh😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The game itself is basically a massive seizure warning with the color backgrounds during the supers and intro
5:06 Captain America: "Hail Hydra City."
Marvel 3 is beloved
I can’t wait for MVC 1 next week
Cyclops got shafted.
I'm just glad this ain't that weird version with that Norimaro guy...
Wait, is it?
It is, but only with the Japanese ROM.
They should've had another superhero. Where was Rouge the Mutant?
Since Elliot has lost his joke privileges, I want it to continue by him making only overly normal statements, the next Smackdown Sunday~ It'd be so weird.
Speaking of EX, how come Capcom's never brought anyone original from THOSE games back?
Because they're Arika characters, meaning they need to be licensed out in order to reappear in a Capcom game.
Better roster? You're joking, right? Unlike this game, X-Men vs. Street Fighter doesn't have any recolors or clone fighters.
@@jlev1028 Ryu, Ken, and Akuma: Are we jokes to you?
I hope someone plays Omega Red in MVC2
I can do all sorts of crazy stuff in Marvel 2 infinite combos till Valentine I'm looking at you❤ but anyway remember I mean I remember old school sorry we still have infinite combos all day long😂
14:38
Elliot You thought that was bad? look at BBTAG. That Roster was a mess. Hell the whole game was a Mess.
It's so weird to me they had just Ruby and Weiss in the base roster. Though, Blake and Yang ended up being free. I think the steam version added them in automatically. I'm also disappointed that Rise, Wagner, and Asuka never made it.
I'm starting to be convinced that you intentionally left all the visual/game settings at default...
They just didn't know at the time
A damn shame you guys didn't play the Japanese version for Norimaro. He sucks ass, but he's still an extra character you could've shown off
Also in regards to Jill and Shuma Gorath in MvC3, the re release of UMvC3 on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam has the DLC, meaning they're now preserved.
Elliot Cancelled
Well my mom passed away
Matt still going strong with the xenophobic jokes even a decade later
Wait, I thought you were holding Smackdown Sundays off until next week. Isn't that why there wasn't one last Sunday? Because of Halloweenfest? What changed?
We did have one last Sunday. It was for Vampire Savior.
@smashmaster521 That was a Halloweenfest video. It had nothing to do with their Capcom Marvel games marathon and was uploaded at 4 PM.
@@jlev1028 Why do you care? its more videos for us lol
Oh yeah I'm in jail no one knows how to use her tell me who knows how to do anything comes with Joe Valentine not you but I do😂
So.. what was the joke was going to make?
Look up Final Solution
I hate the street fighter side of this roster.
It's all SF2 plus Sakura and Dan
There's like 4 shotoclones (5 if you count Sakura) and this is NOT the type of game you include Dan in.
They had the nerve to put Rose in the background instead of putting her in
8 Marvel superheroes? I didn't know Blackheart and Omega Red were heroes. I thought they were villains. Are Bison and Akuma worse than them?
Wait, are you saying Shuma-Gorath was a hero at one point?
@@smashmaster521 Not me, Elliot
Also, here's the worst game in the Capcom Marvel fighting game series, ladies and gentlemen. Not because it barely budges from X-Men vs Street Fighter but because it contains FIVE literal recolors it shamelessly claims to be new fighters: Mephisto, USAgent, Dark Sakura, Mecha Zangeif, and Armored Spider-Man. Say what you will about Smash Ultimate, at least the Echo Fighters were aesthetically different. Daisy wasn't just Peach but with auburn hair and an orange dress.
Those are literally all hidden characters.
The bigger issue is that theres like five shotoclones in the ACTUAL roster
@@symphomaniac 8 if you want to count Spider-Man, Captain America, and Cyclops. The game's still fun to play, but the variety is somewhat lacking.
@@smashmaster521 I don't count them.
Especially since only Cyclops has anything even remotely resembling a Tatsu
