Regarding lamps, I don't like to see the seam on my lampshade so I turn it to face the wall
Me, too!
Totally agree, this really drives Jack crazy, he’s always moving them even at other people’s homes!!
Especially when lamp shades are crooked!!!!
Definitely. Bugs the heck out of me too!
Me too , also crooked pictures
I just replaced all of my towels, gave the old ones to the local animal shelter, they are always in need of towels...everybody wins!
That's a great suggestion.
Good idea or I cut mine up for cleaning
@@sableann4255 I have too, but I have so many more to get rid of! I used some to sew some washable "paper towels" that pop together, and some went to my boyfriend's truck, and I use some for swimming. But I still feel like I have way too many! Humane Society, here I come lol.
@@sableann4255 me too. I also use them for cleaning the car.
Bless you! The shelters always need towels ❤️
Biggest pet peeve: Toilet lids up! TMI, if you’re done doing your thing, close the lid, then flush, give it a minute, check to make sure you leave it clean.
I even see it in brochures of homes for sale! Lid up! Can’t stand it! Our first home was 30 years old when we bought it. Went in to one of the bathrooms one time and there was something in there. Long story short: a rat had evidently gotten into the air pipe on the roof and fallen down and gotten into the toilet. The lid was down and it couldn’t get out. (Thank heavens!) If the lid had been up…who knows? I’ve heard of snakes coming up from toilets, too, especially in the south. And, of course, we drop things into the potty! Lol I won’t buy a house if you walk in and come face to face with a bathroom! 🥴
Oh me too! Especially on a real estate using online! We put the seat down prior to flush-it’s there for a reason!,
I keep mine down! I went on vacation and came back and raised the lid and several mosquitoes were living in there!!! The South!! Mildew, too!
Hate the toilet lid up! By far my biggest pet peeve. Seeing a perfectly styled bathroom and then the lid is up. . . spoils it for me everytime. But, I do pull stickers off of my fruit too!!!! lol
I hate those public toilets with no lid and the automatic flush!!!
I had an interior dec friend who took a very large ornate picture frame and inserted a large board in it, painted the board a neutral color. They put it in the hallway to the bedrooms. This is where they displayed all the 4 children’s artwork, certificates, etc. This was special for the kids and left things off the refrigerator door.
yes...I hate cluttered up fridge doors!
I agree with all your suggestions. But you forgot to mention removing tags from decorative pillows!
And removing the tags from towels too!
Remove tags from everything! Especially if it is visable.
Yesss!! Tags...uhhggg!!
I hate all the tags on towels. They are impossible to remove. If we cut them, they still have bits left. Hate hate hate.
@@LesaBear612 I use an exacto knife to cut it off very close to the towel seam. A razor blade would work, too.
Retire the tired towels and fleece throws to your local animal shelter.
Great idea
Yes, absolutely. Let them get some use from them😊🐶
Cut old towels up for cleaning rag d
I have done that for many years, and
blankets
Just took a carload to them!
I agree with the bathroom clutter, towels, removing tags. But some of these are so insane. Who has time to Iron sheets? And hiding paper towels is so impractical.
I iron my sheets, always have since a little girl. To me is my me time, the time when I zone out, and don't answer to anybody. I don't mind it because I am doing something for me. When you like something, you find the time, and don't see it as a chore. I am an only child, primary caregiver to elderly parents both with cancer and a dog. I work from home, my life is beyond chaotic and yet, ironing my sheets bring me a lot of peace. Crazy huh? I know.
How many of us draw the line at ironing sheets? Hahahahaha!
Lol never
Never 😂
I wish I had the, “I iron my sheets” kind of time.
Instead, I have the “let’s buy wrinkle free sheets” kind of budget.
To each it’s own 🤷♀️
Are you fucking kidding me!! Who the fuck cares if the sheets have wrinkles?!!!!!
@@RoseEDoodles that’s the indelicate way of putting it. That’s what I’m saying too but in a more civilized manner.
My personal pet peeve. I hate toilet paper “extra rolls” being placed on the back of the toilet. I always make sure to have a fresh roll in our guest bath. And, place one discretely in the cabinet in a cute basket. Trust me, people look in your cabinets!😂
Tidy saves time, everything in place means not wasting time searching, items are where they are supposed to be and can easily be seen.
Yes, always keep in the wrapper so no contamination :)
Yes ma’am! 💯
Hey do ppl do that? Weird
@@lindat.7520 Do what? Look in others bathroom closet and cabinet? If their eyes are working, they will.
Me: I agree on the Softsoap. A beautiful dispenser makes washing your hands feel luxurious.
Me 2 Minutes Later.... Going into the main bathroom and seeing a Softsoap bottle next to the Soap Dispenser.
Got to love husbands! LOL
I think that's sweet. At least he did put out a bottle. Go hug him for me. A lot of us don't have our spouses anymore. And I don't care about a beautiful dispenser necessarily. I'd rather have a beautiful husband that put out a soft soap bottle next to the soap dispenser. Peace.
Lol, by the huge refill bottle so it isn’t convenient to use frequently
Valentinaaaaa nooo my paper towels are by the sink and will always be 😂😂
Haha same, I mean I'd put them away but my boyfriend absolutely doesn't agree 😄 we use cloths and towels more than paper towels at this point but that's one thing he won't budge on. I feel like I have a say of 99% of things in our home though so I'm okay with that.
99% of things is almost excellent!!!
Kit Kat Where else when you have a two-handed mess and need a towel NOW? :)
I make my bed with clean sheets straight out the dryer.
I hate when you go somewhere and the hand towels look nice but they have a funky stale laundry smell. Don't let your clothes sit in the washer for hours or days, do laundry when you can get them out of the washer immediately! Then fold or hang them immediately out of the dryer so there's no wrinkles. Don't shove them in a basket to fold later, they look so messy!! Wash all new bedding, blankets, towels and clothes before you use them! You never know who touched them or tried them on.
What you really don’t know is what chemicals were used to keep the fabric nice through shipping, storing, display etc.
Me too! I only use 100% cotton, so I a
Al ways get the sheets straight to the bed, no need to iron. Vinegar gets out that stale smell, but i put it in with the soap, and fabric softener gets rid of the vinegar odor.
That smell of moldy laundry!!! Some people's clothes smell like that!!! Always leave the washer open after doing laundry so it dries out!
One of the best homemaking tips ever given to me was my mil who told me when it comes to taking clothes from the dryer - make it a rule to never handle them twice because that's twice the work. Fold and put away immediately. Don't toss them in a basket or on a table for later. From time to time, I get tempted to toss a load of towels on the dining room table and get back to them later - then I hear her words - never handle them twice - that's twice the work.
I hate that smell of funky laundry. Reminds me of beef barley soup. And it gets worse when the towel gets wet.
Leaving the cellophane on lampshades 😳they are not dust protectors 🙄you can vacuum/clean the shade when it needs it
The cellophane is a FIRE HAZARD! It MUST be removed!
Now that is funny! I have never seen someone leave the cellophane on a lampshade... Maybe Marie from Everyone Loves Raymond?? LOL
....and perhaps the plastic wrapping on the sofa?
.....I don't think paper towels are a ' hanging offense ", lol......I like and use nice kitchen toweling, but the reality of life is that we often need paper towels...so I'll keep mine on the counter, that's where I need them to be. ....
😉🙂😁
Yeah you can clean up the dog vomit with your designer towels. I'll keep the paper towels handy.
We have an iron French fleur-de-lis paper towel holder & we love it. We also tear each p.t. into threes, unless we have a big mess.
I have nice cloth towels, but consider them more to be hand towels & won't use them for swiping up a coffee spill or a spot on the floor.
We really use our kitchen alot & having our p.t. s out & READY TO USE IS practical & a time saver!
It's not more environmental if we need to
use more cleaning products to remove stains on nice cloth hand towels, right?!
Not to mention costly & unsightly stains LOL
IMO! 🌞
@@beeethetruth9645 ....I also Have a lovely iron fleur-de-lis paper towel holder, I didn't even think to mention what it looks like, in my own comment.... but yes, if it's a nice design and fits in with ones decor, no reason not to have it on the counter. I also have a beautiful " scrolled design " holder in my bathroom, because it's practical and needed. 🙂😊
I only have white towels, hand towels and face cloths because I can bleach so they are disinfected. On the final rinse I put vinegar in to remove leftover soap. They always stay white so they always look fresh
Me too!
What do you use to bleach your whites? Since Purex is no longer around I can’t find another that works as well!
@@lkenady52 I have two different recipes. the one I’m using now is
one cup of detergent
1 cup powdered dish soap
a half a cup of oxyclean REVIVE
half a cup of Borax
and one cup of bleach
HOT WATER
OR
1/4 cup baking soda at the bottom of the washing machine
add half a cup of vinegar in the fabric softener container or you can also add a half a cup of vinegar in the rInse cycle
HOT WATER
and then you dry them on medium
hope that helps
I ALWAYS RUN WATER IN BOTTOM OF MACHINE BEFORE I ADD INGREDIENTS
THEN ADD CLOTHES
Janet Ragan, thank you so much for the two recipes. I will absolutely get ingredients and use them tomorrow. Again, thank you for your quick reply! Lynn
Same here! All white sheets as well.
I love a nice tidy home. However this might be over the top. It makes sense when your house is on the market to sell. Who has time for ironing sheets? This sounds like it's more of a house than a home...I would not want people to be fearful of being in my home. Life is just too short. Go out and have some fun.
I agree. This is my home, not a showplace. I personally don't like homes that look like a magazine layout. They have zero warmth.
Fun? Who has time for fun when your ironing Californina King and Queen sized sheets, and with the few minutes you have left over, washing/removing stains from the countless cloth towels.. LOL :) I love a clean, UNcluttered home too, but some of these ideas of no easy access paper towels, and ironing sheets is a bit much.. unless one can afford a maid.. unfortunately, I am the maid in my home.. :)
I also like my home organized and comfortable. This is the second and last video in watching from this channel because the snobby tone is obnoxious. Especially the "WHY? WHYYYY?"
To take out creases in sheets/duvet covers, i toss them in the dryer with a slightly wet wash cloth and essential oils on wool balls.
@@bonniemcdonough5855 I just thought the same! I love a fresh, uncluttered home, but this is not realistic for normal people. I’m no longer watching… just a bit too arrogant.
Right! I’ll let my maid know that she must iron the linens…😉🙄😂
Omgggggggggggg how funny, I am EXACTLY LIKE THAT with cords, stickers, soap dispensers, blankets and countertops clutter. I got you. My family members say I am snob or annoying or too picky. But those things drive me crazy. I’m glad I’m not the only one
You’re definitely not alone!
Not alone at all! I don’t think people realize the low level of chronic stress that clutter and mess creates. A clean home is always more peaceful.
@@wildheart5116 couldn’t agree more 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
There’s nothing wrong with having taste! Lol my husbands family think I’m nuts because I actually care about having a design style. There’s nothing wrong with caring about these things. It makes me feel like my life is together. Especially with quarantine, having our home put together, does affect us!
Well everyone of us is crazy in someway. So if they still love you by only calling you a snob or annoying or too picky take it as a compliment...
While I don’t take sheets straight from the package🤢, I wash them first, I refuse to iron them. I did waaaaaay too much of that as a kid as part of my Saturday chores.
We learned to iron on sheets, pillowcases, my Dad’s boxer shorts, cleaning rags🤣
@@bonniekerr6890 my mom used to iron everything in our house when my dad was overseas to kill time…
Puleeeeez!!! I knew someone who iron his shoe laces.... addiction is addiction people!!!!
@@jgp8525 I think there’s a difference between being neat and having an addiction. I know someone who complains about how neat I am all the time - her house looks like an episode of Hoarders. So there’s that.
We have so many rules for people. We need the Bible
Refrigerator magnets, with notes and "art" on the fridge. Almost always looks cluttered and messy.
When I cleaned off our fridge from all that stuff, my kids complained, lol
I wonder why people do that
I agree, but at the same time it’s been a dream of mine for a long time to be able to put my little kid’s art on the fridge. That stage doesn’t last very long so I will relish in it.
@@tanyabishop6 you should! I framed my kids art work from elementary and middle school art class. I haven’t hung them yet but they look great in the frames, lol
Agreed. I put magnetic sheet metal on the inside of my cupboard doors and that is where we keep all the announcements and magnets because we get a dishes out every day so we still see them all the time
I love sun dried sheets, not ironed and then that freshly washed cotton sheet is dreamy to sleep on.
Nice to hear that someone else likes sun dried sheets! Someone once asked me, "Why on earth would you still hang clothes on a line when you have a dryer in your house?!" Sadly, I think dryers have caused hanging linens and clothing outdoors to be a lost luxury for the senses.
Me too!!! I think my neighbors think Im crazy line drying
I wish I had a way to sun dry my sheets!!
Even when, my boys were little and I lined dried the sheets. At bedtime, they would say, boy that smells good!
Sheets hung on the line. You can smell God's breathe.
I am frustrated with the metal caps that deteriorate on soap dispensers. I think I'm getting good quality at Home Goods for soap dispensers but they have failed too. This poor manufacturing causes us to get pretty plastic bottles as an alternative.
Me too. They rust, become gross.
Agreed!
Also, plastic bottles usually feel like better quality when you press the lever down. I bought glas/metal bottles at Ikea Germany with wide openings. I am happy with their functionality since half a year. Let's see.
Yes! I came to say the same. I tried pretty ones (and prefer the look) but the pumps just weren't as functional. Especially because we prefer the foaming ones. For now I just get the clear plastic and remove the labels.
i have tried so many soap dispensers that were not great quality i guess… i agree they look better but they make me mad!
i buy live clean soap and refills - so when i get a new dispenser i can still use the soap that i like. softsoap is terrible. 🤢
Totally agree with each point- re ironing bedding…. For those of us who are lazy ( I’m lazy) I just iron the pillow cases and the first third of the flat sheet- that’s the part one can see when you fold it over the duvet. Cheating? Yes, but it works 😉
Genius!
I’ve been known to iron the quilt cover while on the bed! My husband thinks I’m bonkers!
I just buy wrinkle free sheets.
@@anitabarker4604 Best way to get rid of all of the wrinkles! I do it, too!
@@Lisa-ym1si Wrinkle free sheets are not quality cotton sheets… FYI… they don’t have to be the most expensive ones you can find, but quality please. My family personally prefers Vera Wang 800 thread count and I find them at Kohl’s ~ they are luxurious. Don’t be fooled by mis-branding… I despise microfiber sheets … ugh 😣
Awesome! Agreeeee on ALL points. I too have a few peeves… but my biggest is when people don’t regularly wash/change their dish cloth. Really turns my stomach! Gross.
Or sponges!
@@Kathleen5429 YES! **shudder**
I change mine at least twice a day!
@@Kathleen5429 Oh God, the sponges I’ve seen 🤮! 😆. Just buy a bunch. At the end of the day, microwave them wet for about 20 seconds. Throw them away when they look mangy.
One of my biggest pet peeves also. I don’t even want to touch other peoples dish cloths😱
Ex grocery cashier here….the stickers on fruit and vegetables has the code the cashier punches in to charge you. Back in the day cashiers memorized the codes so the stickers weren’t necessary. Nowadays they don’t put the time into training cashiers so they no longer require that they memorize the codes.
I was thinking about that! Cashiers had those numbers down pat! There also wasn't the variety we have today.
Plus we have self check out, the customer for sure won’t know the codes👍🏼
Get docked if we don’t scan the produce. They track scanned and keyed in codes. Scanning them is suppose to assist with helping the line move faster. Managers even speak to us about quotas and encourage us to scan more
I remember the grocery cashiers! They were the most dignified, respected ladies in our small town. (They were paid well too. Twice what the bank tellers made.) I loved the way they would hold up an uncommon vegetable and shout out to a co-worker for the code number. (Every store had that one older lady who always knew!) It was like a game to them. Amazing. Then the scanner came and they disappeared. Sadly the grocery experience never been the same since.
Who remembers walking into your local bank and having the Bank Manager greet you by name and never having to ask you for your account number before going to your physical file? Those were the days, friends. Personal service with a smile.
Not that I don't love your office but, as I'm a huge fan and watch every video, I'd like to see you in a different room or a different backdrop for your videos every so often. Your house is so amazing and it's fun to look at every room in detail while you're vlogging. xoxo And YES! Those tags on lamp cords, cushions and other decor items drive me crazy if I see them! The moment I decide I'm keeping something the scissors come out! ;-)
I don’t think you necessarily need expensive hand towels as much as clean and new-ish. I’ve also been putting pretty much everything in my bathroom away no matter how often I use it. I love the way it looks and feels.
I agree with everything except paper towels. Paper towels are a necessity in my house I will always have by the sink. Your home should be beautiful and practical.
I agree if my hands are dirty/messy I want quick access to paper towels without having to open my cabinets with dirty hands. I feel using cloth towels over and over is not the cleanest let alone having to constantly wash them! Im all about easy disposal especially for quick clean up of spills! I agree with most items mentioned but there should also be some practically and no I don’t want a roll of paper towels installed under my cabinets. Maybe one day I’ll change my mind. jmo
@@jeanpe1040 constantly washing and what about stains? I have a pet and have been known to spill a little red wine. 🤣😂.
I use paper towels in my kitchen too, however, I have the holders mounted on the inside of my under the sink cabinet door and underneath the cooktop on the inside of the cabinet door. Easy to get to but out of sight.
@@jeanpe1040 I have mine inside the cabinet door under my sink and love it there!
@@fayejordan175 yes I thought about that but if your hands are soiled do you open door with your hands or foot? To be honest I’m all about creating a clutter free counter space but having paper towels out really don’t bother me.
I’m sitting watching this wrapped in a fleece blanket🙄
Me too!
😂
I love fleece blankets. They are very inexpensive so you can easily swap them to suit the season or change the colour scheme, they are so easy to wash and come out of the machine almost dry- I have dogs so frequent laundering is essential. Wool blankets or cotton ones just aren’t soft or light enough for me.
I don’t think that mothers with several small children in the house have time to iron sheets and pillow cases. Besides no one else is going to see your bedding. Also, not everyone can afford expensive blankets and other accessories. There are some nice paper towel holders out there. Stickers on fruit have a code on them for pricing. Life is to short to nit pick over everything.
I totally agree and understand. I didn’t do as much of this when the kids were small either.
@@HouseofValentina No harm meant, I am picky about certain things as well.
Thrifting is such a great way to save $$.
I agree! It is one thing if nit picking is part of your thing but life is too short and most of us are far too busy to worry about silly things! I do like your design ideas.
About fruit stickers: I don’t like the look either but removing them often causes little tears in the skin making them rot sooner! In my home, “sticker” means the fruit hasn’t been washed & I just rotate the fruit to hide the sticker. No one sees them & I don’t risk wrecking them if not for immediate use.
Me, too!
This is a great idea!
I do the same thing on tender skinned produce... and yes, if the sticker is removed, it means it has been washed and tomatoes and soft skinned fruit usually does not get washed until ready to eat.
I do the same!
this is such an amazing high level - beyond my thought ...i am in awe
That ironing trick with essential oil is gold
I know, that's a great idea!! You can also put essential oil on a cotton swab and rub it on light bulbs or on the top of ceiling fan blades. Clean them first and then apply the oil. When you turn on the light or fan, omg, it makes your home smell so good!!!
@@tf4606 with a drop of two of essential oil? Lol okay. Just make sure you don't do that then.
For outlet stickers: you can remove them from face of outlet and place them
on underside of switchplate (if you're too afraid to toss them.)
I'm using nice kitchen towels too but sometimes you just NEED paper towel too 😊 Personally it doesn't bother me seeing it on my worktop. xx
I really don't have the space to hide mine but I suppose if you live in an expensive home, you will have the space.
I put a tension rod under my sink. The paper towel roll goes on that.
@@LesaBear612 that’s so clever!
Lesa Pennington not very ergonomic but then you value aesthetics more
I'm not soaking up dog or cat vomit with a dish towel 🤢🤮 Not soaking up spilled coffee or anything that stains either with a dish towel. I barely have time to iron my clothes let alone iron sheets. Hell, I don't have time to make my bed.
Great suggestions, I do have the nice kitchen towels. However I will never give up my PAPER TOWEL lol
I have beautiful handmade wooden paper towel holders to display.
I agree. Paper towels need to be easily accessible when liquid is running all over the counter. I’m not a fan of them on the counter top, I prefer them under the upper cabinet. Hidden in a cabinet means they are not accessible when needed quickly.
I think they are part of good home hygiene
Paper towels are much more sanitary than cloth for meat juices, oils, etc. I always use a paper towel for messy jobs and finish with a cloth towel. Can't live without the paper towls.
@@kariejorgensen7874 I never use paper towel. I use old towels cut in 4 pieces instead. When they are dirty, I place them in a small basket in the kitchen. And I wash them often at 60°C (hot water). For messy things, I rince them before storing in the "dirty" basket. For very dirty things (things that are really ugly), I use a very old rag, and I throw it away.
But I have paper towel on the counter : my husband uses it for cleaning, and I use it for cooking. I have no other place for it. Very small kitchen, old and impractical.
My pet peeve is visible kitchen garbage cans.
I use a huge Pottery Barn wicker hamper with a matching lid for my visible kitchen trash can. It looks really nice and so many people have copied my idea if they are unable to hide their trash can.
@@lisafield4154 great idea! 😊
I’m glad I have a designated wall niche for my bin cuz I can’t imagine opening a drawer or cabinet and lid every single time with dirty hands and garbage. My bin has a step lid opener.
Mine too.
Interesting. I don't mind them as long as they are clean and nice-looking. At our rental we had a designated cubby for it but I didn't really like it being in there since I had to open the cabinet every time. It was a pain. I'm happier now that we switched to a pretty step-opener stainless can. I wipe it often so it doesn't get streaky. To me, it looks nice, not bad. Just goes to show, to each his own!
OMGosh when I see a bowl of beautiful lemons displayed with the stickers on!!!! I can NOT! This blog is totally hitting home!
Could you do a video on how to store makeup, perfume, skincare, ad haircare (etc). In a small bathroom that doesn’t have a tone of storage. I have a linen closet outside the bathroom that I use, but only two drawers in my small bathroom.
I made the mistake of putting a pedestal sink in my tiny bathroom so what I did was got two large mirrored cabinets one in front and one on the side and I store all the toiletries and make up in there. I get small organizers from the dollar tree to put my Q-tips and cotton balls and within these cabinets and the best part about them is they are mirrored on the inside so you can open them up and see the back of your hair when you’re styling it or if you’re like me and cut and color at yourself 🙂That said, Next time I’m getting a vanity with storage below it!
Yes, How to keep the clutter down in your bathroom. Please!
Buy a clear plastic shoe caddy to hang over the door or inside of shower curtain . Holds all those products with easy access to them .
I take the stickers off the top of the lamp, and put them underneath on the bottom of the lamp. This way if I have a question on what wattage bulb I can put into it later, I can look there.
Great tip!!
My biggest pet peeve is walking on filthy floors. I have Asian house rules with no shoes in the house and it helps so much to keep the filth out. But it’s also important to keep your kids at the table when eating. Minimizes accidents on your furniture and in the rooms.
I am a Canadian and very few people wear shoes in the home. My American friends and family all wear shoes in the house. I find it so odd that all that outside dirt gets tracked through their home. Way too much extra cleaning 🧹 for this Canuck
Totally agree with you . My mother did not allow shoes in the house. It just makes so much sense…why do so many Americans not understand the logic? Do they not know the gross things we step outside and when you don’t remove your shoes before entering the house then you bring it all inside and transfer it to your rugs, carpet, floor, etc. just so gross!
We always had the rule of no food or drinks outside of the kitchen, for our children & then our grandchildren. Also nothing inside the car but water.
Never had a problem, never had any complaints about it, never had food/drink stains on rugs or furniture, & car interior was always nice & clean.
It's weird to me that most parents today excuse their filthy, sticky cars & furniture/carpet with "I have kids!", & if you suggest limiting food & drinks to the kitchen they get really angry & offended.
Yes! It's crazy that most Americans don't take off their shoes! That's just gross. The next house I build I'm going to have a made in the wall shoe shelf next to the door. Haven't decided on if it's going to be in a coat closet or just the shelf on wall yet. I would prefer to have a closet with it, and have led lights to showcase the shoes.
@@JamieM470 I agree. They don't put limits to their kids.
😄😄😄 the stickers on fruit!! ... my late husband used to remove them from the fruit and stick them on the microwave door. It was wallpapered with them and i really hated it especially when they got old, discolored and started peeling off around the edges . . .
He could wallpaper the entire kitchen with them for all i care if i could have him back again.
Brianna, I’m so sorry for your loss. What a fun memory to make you smile.
@@Rfsunnybrook ... thank you 💕
I also hate the bright green and blue scrub brushes in / near the kitchen sink. There are just three of us here so I opted not to have a dishwasher. I needed the cabinet space more so I just keep my dishes done up all the time. I found some nice neutral sponges that look so much better. The paper towel thing I agree it looks terrible but it hides my outlet which looks worse.
This made me think, I need to hang my paper towels from under the cabinet too! Then I remembered they’re hiding a particularly ugly outlet.
I sacrifice the cupboard under the sink for a bowl to put dirty dishes in. I lift out, wash them, put the bowl back. There's enough room for scourers, kitchen paper towel, dishwashing liquid etc. It's so worth it to have a clear bench. I don't have overheads or many cabinets, but I cut down on things I do have so it all fits hidden away.
K
I agree completely !!!!
My family thinks I am crazy picky but it ruins the esthetics of everything to be looking at clutter, stickers, labels ect. Thank you for validating that I am not the only person out there that thinks beauty in the home is a priority ❣️It can be beautiful and practical at the same time :)
Same over here! In fact I love the entire statement "Beauty In The Home Is A Priority" ☝🏽🙌🏽
Exactly! And what I love are that most of them are things most anyone can do. We are renting and so we can't do things like get new cabinets, etc, but keeping things clutter-free and having beautiful touches throughout is key for me.
I also like the paper towels attached under the cabinet...they are just so efficient. A bit off topic, but the one thing that drives me crazy...is when someone leaves any type of crumbs in butter, jelly, etc. That was my father's pet peave..so we learned not to do that at an early age😄. Great video👍
Mine too!! I am constantly wiping the lid, the jar, and the butter tray...
Wow, the pressure is truly on if you're coming to visit. I wonder if the invites to parties might be less frequent now. Having said that I agree with most of what you brought up in the video. My home may not always show it, but I want my home to feel as calming and welcoming as possible for guests as well as myself. Thanks for what you bring to this platform.
I agree with everything u said!!! Especially the stuff all over bathroom counter top! I can't! I just get instant panic when i see it 😞
I’m halfway through this and I’m getting a very strong sense that you have an issue with stickers.🤣🤣🤣
Are you sharing all these ideas so that homeowners can make their homes ready to sell? It sounds like a lot of your ideas are for staging a home and not to live in. I keep a very nice clean home and love decorating every room. My Grandson loves to see his latest artwork on my fridge, and when my son was alive he loved that also. I have framed some of their artwork and it hangs in several rooms in my home.
Gigi! I 100% agree..
I had a hall gallery of my children's 2 dimensional work. 3 dimensional went on a shelf as a collection. Now I have my grandchildren work.
@@savvyconsumer7342 Now that is a lovingly adorned home! Warms the heart.
I totally agree.
I'm pretty sure this lady never was without house keeper. Or she has the perfect husband.
Biggest pet peeve -- Real Estate photos that have the shower curtain pulled so you can not see the shower/tub...I'm looking to see if I need to replace faucets shower heads etc. Or when I go to someone's house...it just looks like they are hiding dirt......And leaving the bathroom with all your products out....that is why there are drawers...I pull out the drawers and work directly from them and when I'm done just close the drawers. Easy-peasy!!
The stickers and the electric cord "instructions" -- how are people that tolerant? That said Ironed sheets are so great. If you aren't feeling the ironed sheets I recommend starting with ironing the pillowcases and the top half of the top sheet. One you get how lovely it is you'll start ironing the whole set. The sheets can really be ironed folded over and maybe iron only the top of the duvet cover. Find little ways to make it easier.
I actually love ironing which is pretty twisted I guess but it's so satisfying and ironing smooth cotton is a cheap thrill. Love a fresh bed, worth the effort!!! Don't forget the linen spray or put distilled water in a sprayer with a tiny bit of your favorite cologne. I put Miss Dior in there and ooh, la la!
My bed is not on public display for all to see. I hate to iron and the last thing I am going to iron is bedsheets that I will mess up just hours later.
I agree. If I did all this, I would need to hire staff to keep it all up.
Most of our beds/bedrooms are not on public display, but most everything else in our lives, is. So to walk into a beautiful serene bedroom, and sink into a lovely luxurious bed at the end of a hectic day - is like a sleepcation. Even if its not that lux - its restful and enjoyable when everything is clean and neat,
LOL I have lusted over a rotary ironing machine for years ...I so love ironed sheets and fabric napkins. Am i living without now I’m in an apartment and like I think about it every week when i do my bed. I did cheat sometimes when I ironed the top sheet and just ironed the top no iron bottom.
@@jeanlaubenthal698 my mom used to put the sheets on top of the ironing board and iron clothes on it. When I took over the ironing just the pillow cases got ironed.
Neither is my bathroom. I don't have that kind of storage in there.
Decluttering a home is healthy , takes stress away and illuminates dust that old saying ( less is better )
I know I’m guilty of accumulating things I really don’t need , it’s so nice to walk into a room or house and have everything neat and in place . Especially today having to deal with COVID most of us are inside more than ever . Thank you for all tour tips making our home life less stressful.
Sport team blankets. Do not lay this out in your living room. Fleece blankets are good for outdoor use.
You are not alone! Agree with all 😂 i especially hate fruit stickers! Best regards from Poland!
I love everything you say here. In all of our busyness we often tend to not see ways in which we can improve our experience at home. I appreciate this because for me it comes down to self respect and making my home which is my personal sanctuary, a pleasing place to be. Small details make such a difference. ✨
I iron my pillowcases and just the top portion of my flat sheet.
I love all of your videos but this one really hit home. I seem to be so sensitive to clutter, tags, messy counters and anything that distracts from the beauty of our home so thank you for sharing; I won't be so hard on myself knowing that I'm not alone.
This is one of my favorite videos. Now I have to go cut some tags and remove stickers. 😉
I clean my counter tops everyday, both in the bathrooms and kitchen. I hate having products out and it stresses me out when we go to people’s homes and there’s clutter everywhere. I say your environment is a reflection of your inner mood and state of mind. A clean and clutter free space is a must for me.
great video reminder, fyi if anyone is buying new towels and sheets animal shelters are in great need of these items. they do not take comforters as dogs tend to eat the filling. I live in NYC and the thing i miss most about not living in a house is being able to dry your whites in the sun to get them extra white.. After time the white sheets just don't get white!
If you're on a tight budget, the things she mentions can easily be found at thrift stores and yard sales. Lots of pretty and practical stuff. I'm looking for a soap dispenser, but I want it to be tall to take up vertical space. Hope I find it soon. :)
Dollar store!
I found one at Home Goods on clearance for 3.50!
Hi, I love watching the two of you, both hilarious and on point... about sheets straight out of the package... any fabric mass produced like that is originally produced and stored on huge rolls, these rolls are sprayed with bug and rodent repellent for storage purposes and to preserve the fabric from any critters nesting or eating... a washing for these is a must ...
@Laura Lee Yikes! 😳 Are you sure? I've never heard that. I buy fabric all the time, I'm a quilter and I never prewash. I do iron my fabric before I cut it but until then it's stored by color on shelves in my sewing room.
Any fabric should be washed before any sewing project due to possible shrinkage. Plus any fabric item (clothing, sheets, etc.) should be washed before use due to all the chemicals used in production.
I once put new sheets on my bed straight from packaging thinking no big deal. When it was bed time I jumped out of the bed within 5 minutes because my entire body was itching! There is definitely something on them from factory. And even if they aren't treated with anything, they have been touched and ran through who knows what machines at the factory. S, now I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wash towels, sheets/linens, and unmentionables before wearing/using no matter if they were in a sealed package or not.
@@mayrab6738 Oftentimes the producer will use a variety of oils/lubricants on the yarn when it is being woven to keep breakage down and help it slip through various guides. This is why newly bought towels, while soft, won't usually dry you very well until they've been laundered.
These are great tips.. and good reminder about the sheets needing ironing!👍🏻
A tidy organized home is a peaceful place to be.
Great advice! My personal pet peeve…toilet seat lids up!! The look of a big gaping hole that should be covered looks just wrong. Plus it’s unsanitary to flush it open. Just my two cents. 😊
Yes I can’t stand this and the kids are never up in our home. My husband and I hashed this out year one of our marriage. He’s a nice guy😄
I would freak out every time a family member flushed with the seat open. Hahaha. “Close the lid!!! Your poo particles are floating in the air now!!!” 😅
funk grows in the toilet if the lid is down all the time, just my experience, now I leave it open overnight.
Yes! And you have no idea how many listings I’ve seen of beautiful houses showing the bathroom and the toilet seat is up. It just screams CRUDE, CLASSLESS people live here.
I really appreciated the comments on soap dispensers you made. I never thought of how they look. I have SoftSoap in their original plastic retail containers in 6 places in my home and they do downplay what else I have going on decoratively in each space.
Thank you for the tips for a more beautiful and gracious home. Some of didn't have the type of home were we were taught things like this. Every one of your videos exposes us to things we never knew. Keep doing what you are doing and ignore the negativity. We appreciate you.
Thank you so much!
Yay! Valentina! I need to share this video with my grown kids….I have upheld 90% of these suggestions in my home since…well, forever. My kids thought I was overboard. So simple and easy to put things in their place, and keep simple tidiness procedures. Love this video. (With the exception of ironing sheets…never made time for that 🤦♀️…but, love the look)
The lamp stickers made me think of the blind stickers and tags that came on my buildings new blinds. The building was a whole renovation and everyone got new blinds - but oh my god some units haven't removed the orange tags full of warnings and they've lived here almost 2 years. They stick out like a sore thumb! Those came off right away once I moved in lol.
could you share HOW you got the orange warning sticker off the Botton of the metal?
@@terrycurtis2633 mine just peeled off and I used goo gone to get rid of any residue. Mine are plastic though so we might be in a different situation.
I found Mercury glass containers and boxes for my bathroom. Love them and it makes my space calm with a glam touch.
I so agree with all the things you mentioned!! So glad someone else feels the same way!!
I love fresh, clean towels, and yes, I adore fresh ironed sheets, pillowcases, and pyjamas. It's the best thing ever to climb into a beautifully ironed bed. The best.
Also, I love that you promote enviromental consciousness. Kudos.
Trying to move away from consuming. Feels like you are encouraging us to buy and store. I love your channel, it would be great to hear about how we can be chic by consume less.
There are two more things to add to the list, Kleenex boxes on the back of the toilet or in the counters. Just find a nice ceramic container or anything better than the box to transfer the Kleenex into. The other one is outlet covers. What is it when the space is beautifully painted or wallpapered and the outlet is a blaring white. Paint them people! And when ever possible change out the outlet and/or light switch to compliment. There are so many choices that will finish your space to that upper level of beauty. These elements are the jewelry to a space. My biggest gripe is I see so many professional interior designers ignore this small detail.
Kleenex is an eyesore to me no matter how it's dressed up. I hate it and it never fits somewhere well. I keep an extra roll of toilet paper on the bathroom shelf and use that. Nuts, I know. But esthetically I like the white soft paper roll sitting there and it's like paper towels you can pull off whatever you need.
Yep! We just painted our home white and those beige outlet and switch covers all had to GO, eww. You gotta match 'em!
Thanks for posting this video. A real reminder to clear the clutter on our kitchen counter.
Thanks, Valentina!! This is awesome! Love 💘 this channel.
Ohhhh thank you for addressing all the tags and stickers . This has ALWAYS been my pet peeve and always remove all completely as soon as I get home with them. Always have. Love your channel!
My husband says I’m a fuss pot, but I always iron my bed linens and kitchen tea towels and keep a perfectly put together bed, perfumed and sprayed every morning. I’m also a ‘stickler’ for no stickers, but I live in the country and try to buy locally straight from the farm. I also polish my fruit, with a dry micro cloth! Makes a real difference. My biggest problem is flat surface clutter……..ANY flat surface. My husband is my problem……he says if he can’t see his vitamins/drugs/tools etc he forgets them! Aaargh! I always use beautiful, soft white towels, and I inspect them regularly for stains, rips etc. but I prefer HUGE towels so that I can get lost in them when stepping out of the shower. Thanks for your video, Valentina! Love it! xx
I really liked this video bc I was guilty of several of those things you listed and now I'm not! I agree with the small things matter and can make all the difference. I recently upgraded all my soap dispensers and love them! Going shopping today to upgrade my Fall throws in my living room. One more thing worth mentioning, remember to clean around your doorknob on the front door, inside and out! Nothing worse than a dirty front door!
My Diva you are 1000% spot on. Everything you mentioned is available and accessible. How awesome to walk into a tidy well arranged home. It makes people want to live and enjoy home life. Thanks so much.🌺🌺🌺👍👍
Although I do not iron my sheets, I DO iron my pillow cases. I always have. When I was six years old, my mother taught me how to iron them. I am 67 years old and I still do it. I also iron my duvet covers and shams. I cannot stand wrinkles on that bedding.
I iron pillowcases and although a huge hassle, duvets. But ONLY the top part of the sheet that shows over the blanket. Ironing the whole sheet is a huge waste of time.
All very good suggestions.
I'm a recovering counter-slob. Our old home had very little storage and it was hard to find places to put anything away. We moved into our new home a month ago and I am DETERMINED to do better. So far, so good! My paper towels are tucked away, my counters are clear (except for some pretty glass jars and a box), & my ugly blankets are out of sight. I'm glad to say that I've always washed & taken the stickers off of my fruit!
I NEVER TELL people, but I do press pillowcases and the top third of the top sheets. It’s just necessary. And you! You said it out loud! Thank you for saying it! Whew! I feel so much better.
Take some tags off bedding but keep the care label so you’ll know what’s required, or your dry cleaner will know-otherwise it’s at your own risk.
Weekend mission “take the stickers off all the things!” Thanks for always giving us free ways to elevate what we already have🙌
I've had stickers on things for years! I make sure that they don't show. Some i have removed, some I haven't. I'll remove them as I see fit.😁
These are great goals. I agree totally about stickers on fruit. When I see those in a fruit bowl, I always wonder if the fruit was even washed
I love everything you said Val! ❤️❤️❤️
I just built a new home, and I decided not to put my magnet collection on the fridge. So many memories, though! So, I put them on the door going in from the garage. It's metal, and I love seeing them as I go in.
Me too!
That's where mine are too! Besides magnets won't stick to the stainless steel, it will stick if you use the side of the fridge, which I can't do because it's got cabinetry around it. The back door is perfect.
@@Sharon-pb7so Mine stick to the front of my stainless steel appliances. Strange!!
That's a great idea!!
Yes! I iron my bedding! And proud of it! Lol it looks so good when you are done and it makes you feel good too! 👍🏽👌🏽❤️🌹my mom always ironed our sheets. She even ironed our cotton panties! 🤣😂
So many great ideas, thanks V.
Hey Mrs. Valentina, i do agree with all your point. My paper towels are on apaper towel holder behind a kitchen cabnet. No one sees them! I also dislike makeup and trash on my counters. Makes the whole bathroom look awful! I'm in TX. so it's pretty hot here. No need for a blanket all the time. I'm not gonna iron my sheets. I have kitchen towels for every holiday and some nice ones from Target I put out every other day. I cut off and peel my stickers too😊
I like clear soap pumps so I can see when I need to refill easily. Also : I love ironing my sheets , well I don’t love ironing them but I love the results.
PERFECT!! I was beginning to believe I was the only one annoyed by these things.
Thank you so much for reminding me.
Loving your videos so much. I'm definitely with you about paper towels, tags, soap dispensers and fruit stickers. I'm quite excited because I've always loved interior design and quality but have had to live for almost 3 decades in a quite utilitarian space. We are about to sell our farm and will have a good amount to spend on a nice home. I'm binging on interior design videos whilst cleaning up two houses and my husbands tidying up sheds and farm. I'm also an artist but haven't had the time for art for quite a while. Really looking forward to designing my new home. Thanks for your inspiring and positive videos. You and your husband Jack are very entertaining. Keep up the good work!!!!. Xx
I always iron my pillow cases because I love the crisp look and the smell of ironed cotton. I get made fun of because I iron bed sheets, but my bedroom looks beautiful and I love getting into my bed.
I have a bit of OCD. I need paper towels. Kitchen /bathroom hand towels gross me out.
Totally agree with ironing bedding. It’s a whole other level of sleep! I’ve just started using my steamer which is way faster and much more convenient. If I can’t get to it I at a minimum do the pillow cases and top 3rd of the flat sheet.
You're right about the blankets! I love the faux fur blankets from Restoration hardware or Pottery Barn they are roughly 150 dollars but they are worth the buy. I usually get them in a silvery Brown or sometimes in a silvery tan, a attractive basket with a lid attached helps lol to hide the blankets you don't like🖤❤️
My grandma had one of those sheet ironing machine & so loved sleeping at her place 😊
It was called a mangle. My mom had one that I learned to use. Beginning ironing was on an ironing board, pillowcases. There's satisfaction in a freshly ironed item, tho' the time to iron is lacking these days.
