All fake companions encounter in the sewers | Baldur's Gate 3

- This is probably one of the rarest encounter in the game, apparently if Orin never kidnaps one of your companion, one of them will appear as an impostor in the sewers
Most of us who played normally probably will not be able to get this scene, so in other words, this can be called as the speedrunners scene, why? Because if you play normally you'll need a long rest, and in one of those long rest event in Rivington Orin will kidnap your companion
So if you want to experience this scene yourself, what you have to do is to ignore Gortash, skip his coronation, ignore Mizora, ignore Wyll (if you haven't already) and go straight into this manhole in Lower City, then from there go north to the Bhaal's tample.
Companions timestamps:
00:01 Intro
00:46 Minthara
03:21 Gale
06:33 Halsin
09:30 Lae'zel
11:47 Yenna
1) All hail Tim Downie, clearly having the time of his life with this scene
2) Silly Orin, those sentences are way too short for Gale of Waterdeep 😂
Hello! I’m Gale of the Red. Pleasure to make your acquaintance.
I absolutely love how Tim Downie went all-out with Gale's version of this! The way his voice gets incredibly high at times is SO specific to Orin's actual voice and inflections- I absolutely love that attention to detail in his line deliveries, it gives me chills every time 😭
Shesh, felt the same. He’s the only one who actually managed to mimic Orin’s manner of speech
Right??? Goddamn
I adore Tim. He’s a treasure
FR!!!
Where Orin went wrong:
Halsin: No mention of Oak Father.
Lae'zel: Admitted to someone being 'too strong' for her or you to fight.
Gale: The most convincing but the sentences were too short.
Gale was giving up too quickly
Halsin was not talking about nature enough, clearly a fake.
She would've nailed it had she said oak father preserve you
Literally. My paladin-cleric was so concerned when he didn't mention the Oak Father and whatnot
You can tell Gale's actor really had fun with this haha
How so ?
I think I remember Tim Downie said in an interview that he originally read for Gale and Raphael in the auditions. Now obviously he’s iconic as Gale but I used to wonder what he would sound like as a villain. Hearing a slow, sultry, Evil!Gale is… well… yeah, I’ll stop talking now…
no, keep going👀
Yeah, especially the inhale before “so cold” and the moan before “diminishing.”
I'm now imagining Tim as Raph and Andrew as Gale. That would have been wild hearing Tim singing Raphael's Final Act or Andrew saying 'STOP LICKING THE DAMN THING!'
I got this scene (with her mimicking Lae'zel) and afterwards she was all like "Would you rather I spoke in the tyrant's tongue?", shapeshifted into Gortash, and then gave me her deathmatch offer in Gortash's manner of speech. It was actually very helpful because Gortash a very articulate man and Orin just sounds insane whenever she's not trying to be anyone else.
Real, she's easiest to understand when she's mimicking someone else. I feel like I'm talking to the Riddler when it's just her vague murder prattling
When I had this encounter Lae’zel was the person Orin impersonated and I immediately knew it was a deception because 1) Lae’zel would never admit to being afraid of an adversary 2) there was not one Githyanki word in her entire monologue 3) No one calls Orin “Orin the Red”.
True it's very obvious with Lae'zel, also in my playthrough she went against Vlaakith someone infinitely more terrifying and powerful than Orin so it seemed extra ridiculous for her of all people to admit she was afraid of Orin
Also, there is no way Lae'zel would ever flee from a fight
I had this on my first playthrough right now im so pissed she took lae'zel
It also didn't help that my Lae'zel was not wearing anything but her smallclothes when that happened, because i was busy buying lingery for everybody prior to that and forgot that half my camp was still half naked. :D
@@AurirangI’m afraid Istik help me!👙🫦🙁
I feel taken for a fool each time. Orin can’t be any more obvious, but the game doesn’t even give us a chance to say “Drop this bad act, Orin.”. Just a perception or insight check at least would be enough :P
True, guess Larian said that we just have to play along with the Bhaal's B*t*h drama
@@DragonsDream It's still unlogical. In act 3 we should know our companions well enough to see if there's something fishy. So at least having a change would be nice and Orin could still cause neough drama by threatening us ti kill them etc :P
This is even more annoying after being told that one of our companions is her by Gortash and even encountering her as one of her many disguises. We've been ride or die with our companions for (what is probably) a few months now yet we can't point out when something's off about our camp buddies.
Seriously. How is it Gortash warned us about a shape shifter, and you see your companion acting like a psycho, and we CANT be like "cut the shit..." Especially considering we have a tadpole telepathically linking us 💀
Yeah. I'd have been like "Girlypop, you suck at this."
Orin got fuckin indulgent with the Halsin fantasy god damn
That’s how I knew it was her lol laying it on way too thick
So obviously a fake. Halsin was not talking about "enjoying the freedom of natures gifts" enough.
I don't know,but I've read that comment in Astarion's mimicking voice 😅
@Milena-ix5mq so did I lol
gale's va does a great job of emulating orin's madness!!
minthara being taken is really sad considering her past with orin
It would be even more fucked up if the game went into a cut scene of Orin with whoever she's kidnapped. Poor Minthara...
She also straight up asks you to protect her from Orin in another scene (not sure if that’s only if ur romancing her tho).. her getting taken is worst case scenario for her
yeah i almost wish that's how it went in my last run where I romanced her. feels more thematic. I told yenna to fuck off like 4 times and orin still kidnapped her like okay?? I have done nothing but be awful to this poor girl.
@@xduwu4257 i did that and she became hella glitched out afterwards
Tim Downie ate
Oh my god what did she do to Gale jesus
think she took his dick
It is not really gale
SHE CHOPPED OFF HIS SALAMI!!
-6 Camp Supplies
She kidnapped Gale in my playthrough and surprisingly she actually doesn’t harm or torment him at all to him and is just toying with you.
Gale even talked about how well-rested he felt after being rescued since Orin keeps the person she kidnaps asleep the entire time.
@@Logandroid
Thankfully she doesn't actually do anything to harm them like so. Likely to assure full compliance. If she killed or maimed the victim, she loses a bargaining chip to force the party to act against Gortash. Orin simply sees brutal methods, while Gortash uses authority and pragmatism, even knowing ahead of Orin's actions.
5:36 whew! This fake evil Gale, with his grin... 🥵🔥🥴
I love all of this, the actors had so much fun in these scene for sure! ty for uploading
Yes, sinister act is probably VA's favorite moments in doing their job. Thanks for watching & I'm glad you like the video, I hope you can forgive my poor narration in the beginning since I'm not really used to narrate in my videos, but youtube kinda force me to do this if I want this channel to be monetized one day 😅
@@DragonsDream all cool, but dont let YT force you to do things you don't enjoy, you can always just use text or other ways to explain videos! Wish you good luck on your goal!
@@DepressionOfMyCat yes sometimes it makes me think if what I did is worth it, but at the core I really enjoyed making these videos, seeing all the fans discussing about the game in the comment section always has been my favorite, but thanks for the wise advice friend, I'll try to always keep that in mind 🙏🏻
They all did fantastic with this, but hearing Halsin's voice broken hurts my heart. :( Especially after how uncomfortable he was in the city, its like it went from bad to worse
It's also nice how his talking really had a progression to it. At first he was just a bit annoyed/saddened by the treatment of refugees and at the end he sounded like he'd raze the city to the ground, given the chance. I took all explosives away from him, just in case.
But yeah, hearing Halsin like this.. hurt kinda deep.
his voice was like a whole pitch higher than normal the entire time, too.
They made Halsin's hands tremble as he explained what she did to him!! The level of detail in this game is both incredible and heartbreaking!!
I knew that the Lae'zel I was talking to was a fake the moment she insisted that I leave her behind because Orin was too strong. Yeah, no, the real Lae'zel would have rather died than admit an enemy was too strong for her.
Lae’zel being here is suspicious in of itself
When I had Lae'zel appear after clearing the cellar of rats I thought "oh she got bored in camp and decided to do an adventure of her own" then when she said about leaving I thought "tactical retreat to regroup and attack again - smart". You can tell she's been on the bench since Act 1 when I added Karlach to the party
Gale! Halsin! My babies!! Even if it's not really them it's so hard to watch them like this! Just to think she could have actually done these things.
I know - even if you can tell from their manner of speech that it's not quite them, GODDAMN DOES IT HURT. Gale and Halsin are especially painful (not just because they are my sweet precious wonderful babies) but because their lines in particular are so much worse??? Minthara and Lae'zel are sad, but Gale and Halsin go in-depth into this torture story (in their CRY VOICES)
Same!!😢 Halsin was the one that was kidnapped in my camp during my first playthrough. I would have cried if Gale had been kidnapped, he was my first romance 😭
I sacrificed a kid to safe my bun boys and a battle frog, I have no regrets...
Props to all the VAs. I can’t imagine how hard it is to transition to a completely different accent over the course of a sentence.
All of the actors for the companions have impressive careers, I'm not surprised they're able to be this good
Halsin no 😭😭😭 i know its not real but even just the thought of my teddy-bear suffering like that
Seems like Orin really wants to make a name for herself as "Orin the red" 😅 Too bad nobody cares enough about her to call her this way
Personally though i went into the elfsong tavern and went to the sewers from the kitchen basement secret place and thats where Halsin all of the sudden met me 😭
same, and i ognored nothign so the whole how to get this thing is... made up or misinterpeted
I got the Halsin one when exploring the hideout under the Tavern and I haven't skipped the coronation or dear Mizora yet, so I don't think that is necessary. I have a feeling a timer sets off after learning about the shapeshifters and you are save at least during the first night, when Yenna joins your camp - but that is just me guessing.
Yes, I think what actually mattered is the frequent long rest, by doing multiple long rests before this Orin come to our camp as one of the companion and kidnap him/her
I also had the Halsin scene. I did the coronation and only got the Mizora scene after this.
I thought Gale's was bad, but Halsin's broke me 😭I'm so glad they're not actually real, my best boys don't deserve any of that
I did this by accident lol, Halsin sprinting at me scared the shit out of me
Gale's voice actor did such an amazing job! He nailed it!
I guess there was no point in Orin trying to pretend to be astarion 😂 nope we know him too well
There's no way Orin could kidnap him for this to happen
He's the very definition of careful
Astarion has someone else who wants to kidnap him - Cazador.
I mean, to be fair, what would she do with a vampire? she's the Chosen of the god of murder - Astarion's already dead.
Fake Halsin talking about killing kids is rough
I got the one with Halsin (as he was the only one I didn't have with me, thanks to unlimited companion mod).
Orin sure loves the drama.
I realized the only companions who get kidnapped are the ones who aren’t from the city, and part of me wonders if that was on purpose or just a coincidence
This is so cool to see gale and minthara. I always see the others. I wonder if there is a fake astarion.
There is not only gale, Laezel, minthara, halsin and yenna
Oh, I'd *love* to see Orin's take on Astarion. 😂
man i wish there was astarion, that would be so fun to see
I’d love if they threw it in later on for the other companions. Like we’re expecting the usual 4 but then you just see shadowheart or Wyll in the sewers it would be like :0
@@chameleon25oh that would be sick, i love it
Interesting how it only does this for certain companions. I wonder why Shadowheart, Wyll, Jaheira and Astarion are never taken. I mean, I can guess why Karlach wouldn't but still.
I can make some guessrs as to why. First we got to keep in mind what is the point of this event - the possibility of permanently losing a party member in Act 3. Then, we look at who face a similar situation.
Astarion - Orin does not impersonate him, but Cazador does want to capture him.
That's Astarion, but what about the others?
Shadowheart - can be given to Viconia (which is pretty effed up)
That leaves Wyll and Karlach. Well, Karlach is going to blow up, and Wyll had that scenario if you didn't save Mizora in Act 3.
Which only leaves..... Jaheira. But Jaheira is already facing an impersonator problem of her own.....
@@timetochronicleOrin must not know about Gale’s orb lol
@@timetochronicleJaheira is also a legacy character - she and minsc are on level with Volo and Elminster in "can't die, too important to the verse"
@@Oznerockwish she was programmed to not run right into combat in moonrise. I gave up trying to save her after 10th attempt
The sewer one isn't hard to get actually. It literally happens anytime you try to go into the sewers if you haven't triggered the scene via long rest.
Lol for real. I accidentally triggered this in every playthrough to the point i now intentionally long rest more to get the camp version.
Tim ate them up tbh
Orin, Orin, Orin, Oooriiiiin ...im begging of you please dont take my Gale.
Sooooo this is what was supposed to happen! HAHA!
So how this went for me is that I sneaked around in the sewers when suddently I saw a red cone appear past the corner, so I started to run away from that. Then suddenly I saw in the distance a big naked man running towards me. I thought it looked like Halsin but went into the door to another map so it would not trigger a fight. Then suddenly I got a backpack with druids clothes in my inventory.
So I was kinda certain it was Halsin running towards me. But this cutscene never triggered and I just saw it in the mission logs that he was captured.
But just the oddity of a naked man running towards me in the sewers was just... weird! I thought it was a glitch at first.
And yes... he was probably naked because I undressed all my characters in camp.... 😂
This Scene triggers with durge every time I do believe cuz I didn’t skip any of those things and got this scene somewhere else
The same mocap actor and animator must have worked on these scenes too. They're such perfect representations of poor, transparent imitations. Orin can't help but be her insane self. Well done yet again, Larian!
It's actually possible Niel Newbon (Astarion) did these, he had to stand in for the others' mocaps for quite a bit, such as all of the character intros in Origin creation :]
@@theVincident I think that's unlikely. At least for the main 5 companions (other than Astarion, obviously) Joshua Wichard also body doubled the companions in a lot of scenes
I wonder how true Orin’s talk about what she did to each companion is (Cutting pieces of Gale, forcing Halsin to turn into a bear, etc). She could very well be lying but the game doesn’t go into much detail about what she actually does with them once she kidnaps them. I find it incredibly hard to believe she doesn’t at least hurt them in some manner.
Honestly love how orin is baaically a theater kid lmao
Yes queen slay
Evil Halsin is something I didn't know I don't want to see...
Why did you put halsin in gortash's clothes?😂 it really ruins the mood
He looks kinda stupid in them too, they don’t really fit his build/shoulder shape 🤔
I went to the sewers on my latest run, saw Orin had my bear husband and immediately reloaded and left Laezel at camp instead 😂. Not today Orin 😂
I had this scene with Halsin. I felt something was off and knew I was never gonna leave him so she was forced to transform.
At first i got daddy halsin but i save scummed and had him join me before he got taken and instead it was the kid.
If you let Orin kill Gale in the boss fight, couldn’t you use his necrotic body against her and then resurrect him with his true resurrection scroll?
you can still visit gortash(but dont kill him) and talk to mizora just go to the elfsong tavern to the emperors hide out. fight the githyanki and follow the path to the emperors hidden apartment behind the statue and go to the backroom. descend down the hatch and you'll be in the stock room near the sewers where you will find orin bursts through the next door pretending to be one of your companions.
Yep this is what happened to me! I went through all the Rivington stuff, even had a couple long rests, and I think it was after Cora that I went down to find the Emperor's hideout and going through that she popped in as Lae'zel. (I was lowkey happy about it happening this way because I REALLY didn't want anything to happen to the cat.) I didn't have Minthara in my camp at all, and only had Gale with me; Lae'zel, Halsin, and Yenna were back at camp. If you interact with Gortash first, she'll also shift into him for a bit while she's talking.
@@bbkate97 i believe Yenna exists to be a back up in case you happen to have Laezel,Gale, Halsin/minthara all in your party. She is a last resort option. this is why the game kind of forces Yenna on you. In the game files it says that the "highest approval gets the highest priority" so Orin will take the companion who likes you the most (who is not in the party) and if theyre all in your party Yenna and Grub get taken.
i got lae'zel with the two playthroughs i got this far in. on my main run laezel got killed mid fight and i couldn't revive her so i lockpicked into one of the mausoleums and laid her to rest there and had a lil funeral
I love that some companions are too easy to tell it's Orin.
Minthara and Lae'zel sound too cowardly, even Lae'zel is too prideful to cower like this to any foe that she's been up against. Even when facing ceremorphosis. Minthara also just feels like it's so overplayed, only time we see such heightened behavior is when she's under the influience of the absolute.
is orin saying minthara would make a pretty tapestry her way of calling minthara pretty lol
Okay Orin, you go stabby on gale but if it's all the same i'll watch from way way wayyyyyy over there.
I'm sure you'll have an explosive time.
I got it in my first playthrough (which I’m still at, I’m very thorough) with Halsin and I legit cried. Now, that I’m watching it… The Lae’zel one is so fucking obvious
legit why is there no option to be like, "You're acting a little weird, bro," to any of these impersonations which are clearly not your friend? I assume it's because Larian didn't want to tip off anyone who wasn't already aware, but even so, I feel like there should be an option to like. make a check or something lmao.
I didnt even know you could *not* get this scene
I've had that scene every time I played the game because the Emperor's hideout is one of my first stops in the city. And I get the encounter every time I go to the sewers via his hideout.
Just when I thought I've seen it all!
Indeed, I actually got this scene by accident the other day when I tried to make another unrelated video in the sewers 😅
behind the fake minthara whose the dude deeper in sewers watching? is it IT?
Hes a shopkeep
I got this scene completely at random, without doing any of the stuff you described. You definitely don't need to skip any of those key scenes/encounters, and I hope nobody does skip them in order to get this common scene. Near as I can tell, you get either this or the one at camp, depending on whether you trigger the scene during a long rest or by venturing too deeply into the sewers. I don't think anything else matters. But I'd need to rigorously test every possible scenario before knowing definitively.
People always seem to think that the only way to trigger certain scenes is by doing exactly what *they* did, and are quick to make their claim online without first testing the hypothesis. Unfortunately, this leads to there being a lot of confusing, misleading, or just plain wrong info out there.
"most of us won't get this scene if you played normally" apparently I'm abnormal then 😂
i literally ignored gortash, wyll and mizora because idc about them.. never knew ignoring all 3 of them and having the bad habit of not resting enough was the key!
haha yeah, in another words not rushing the game progression because the sewers are supposed to be explored much later
Halsin was the only convincing one
possibly because Halsin is the only one on whom Orin's mannerisms read as "severely traumatized" rather than "uncanny valley" XD.
I had seen gortash, and then saw orin after finding the emporers stash
I could tell with Minthara because I am so used to her high and delicate speech, which contrasts with how she is whenever portraying Orin very clearly. Lae-zel was also immediately obvious because... well, Laelae doesn't run.
I dont know if its the armor equipped but the fake Gale doesnt have the marking on his chest and neck.
I got this under elfsong tavern and it was laezel both times. I always assumed it was her for everyone
i played three times and got this every time 💀 i didn't know its rare
was laezel every time tho
Bro, if Orin kidnapped Yonna in my first playthrough, I would've skipped every other quest just to eviscerate her
There actually another type of encounter you get if you long rest while in the sewer but before you get this one
Question: Why does Minthy have 2 different outfits and they change back and forth during the dialogue? I'm guessing 2 different run thrus to get complete set of dialogue?
I love how even their expression changes when the act drops. Orin's smile is so creepy!!!
Let's say I don't have any of these companions, not even the little girl. What happens then?
Did you kill Yenna? She might not have been invited to the camp but she would still be around otherwise.
Honestly Orin is really bad at impostering. Ok if you are a doofus and really dont pay any attention to your companions then maybe this works but most of the time she is really BAD at it.
I feel like these requirements are not needed at all since I had a really high approval with laezel and never had halsin, minthara, or gale in my party at all through act 3 but she still got kidnapped when I swapped her out with minsc
I got it on accident because I visited the Emperors old home (?) in the Elfsong tavern asap and ended up in the sewers for the first time once I exited his hideout. My surprise when Gale approached me to tell me about Orin stealing his ... whatever it is he meant to say LMAO
I always get Yenna kidnapped. She does make nice soup after you save her.
I hate that Orin kills and cooks Yenna's cat before that
I saw this instantly started stabbing and orlin freaked out 😂😂😂😂😂
So did Halsin really eat some children or did Orin just make that up?
Can't lie, I think Dave Jones (Halsin) had the weakest Orin, while Devora (Lae'zel) knocked Orin outta the park as usual
GOD all of them absolutely ate this up. this voice acting cast deserves every single accolade they get; what an incredibly talented group of people
The Lae'zel one was so obvious that I wished we had a dialogue option to reveal that we know it's Orin
Now I wonder if you use expanded party limit and go here with full party what will happen?
Literally 3/3 getting this with halsin because I never bother to put him in the party... and he Still tries romancing me. I tend to stack charisma every playthrough, and I dont long rest much. So when I do long rest it is pretty silly.... especially if I'm trying to trigger something so I'm resting 4 or 5 times in a row... one after the other... everyone in camp comes up demanding the sexxor... I think withers is the only one who hasn't tried to get with me yet.
I got the Halsin scene however it was in a different location in the sewers
i can save her
SHE DON'T WANNA BE SAVED!!!
"This is probably one of the rarest encounters in the game"
And then there's me who finished meeting Gortash, entered Baldur's Gate, immediately got sidetracked by the zombie offering free punches, wandered into the sewers, and ran into Orin on the first day..
No one asking how your companions were here before you when you bolted here from camp?
In my first playthrough I did this, I encountered Orin as Gale in the sewers
As my second playthrough, I'm trying to recruit only 3 characters (I went with Karlach, Wyll and Gale) cause I want to see what happens if I go to the creche without Lae'zel, to the gauntlet of Shar without Shadowheart, and what happens if Orin has no one to imposture to trick us (please guys do spoil the surprise, I want do discover all of this in game)
I don't think you necessarily have to skip everything and go to the lower city to unlock this? In my very first playthrough I accidentally unlocked this even after meeting Gortash and going through most of Wyrm's crossing bits. iirc when I first went into the lower city, I made Halsin shapeshift into a cat and made him go through one of the pipes in the Heapside Prison, and he somehow ended up in the sewers and ran into an injured Gale, even though the others in the party were on the surface.
Funny hahah i never long rested there xD
I knew immediately when I first got Halsin. Orin fucked up when she hurt sratch. No way Halsin is hurting an animal without a extremely good reason.
It’s so over dramatic 😭
Minthara demanding flesh and blood didn't tip me off it was when she started being afraid that I started hearing alarm bells
Laezel is the most suss one lol, what she says, laezel would never say those things or act like that
So how it works is the lowest approval rating will get kidnapped? Also that this can be avoided if u have those specific characters in ur oarty? How can i get yenna to be captured? I dnt care for her and laezel either or
Just let Gale, Lae'zel & Halsin/Minthara in your party, then get here, or go to sleep, there's also another version of this scene that you could trigger after a long rest in camp
@@DragonsDream I dnt have minthara or HALSIN so must I only need gale and laezel? Only then will yenna get captured instead?
@@blackred1032 correct 👍
Halsin's was absolutely horrifying!! NOOOO
Sus.
I got this encounter accidentally. I ignored everything in Rivington because I just ran straight for the Cazador fight. Went into the sewers from Cazador’s dungeon and was really confused when Halsin appeared looking like a wreck lmao
This is a rare encounter? So how do you *not* encounter it, and what happens instead? Presumably I should have taken one more long rest in Rivington after attending Gortash's coronation.
One thing I also wonder: what if all the possible choices for companions that can be kidnapped are either in your active party, or never joined you at all, and you didn't take Yenna in (e.g. you killed her before this). Wonder what Orin will do then.
