It's called a ballad. The song had powerful meaning in the 1960s when teens were forced to go to the Viet Nam war where many young people died fighting for their country. Many songs back then had deep meaning that touched our hearts and minds. They need more songs like that now.

Taylor Swift is so sexy, but yet so classy and I respect her for respecting the old timers who shaped rock and roll as we know it. I think she did a good thing by steering her audience to real rock and roll music. With performers like Taylor Swift introducing an older generation of music to her newer generation of followers maybe we can get a few more Stones fans in the world and to me, that's not really a bad thing now is it? By the way she wasn't that far out of tune, she was trying to harmonize with Mick and Mick is an incredibly talented singer and very hard to sing with and sound good, Eddie Vedder had a hard time too so did Tina Turner etc. nobody sounds good singing with Mick LOL and so what if she was, it's all about respect.

But she does not sound good here, even though it IS a nice, gentle song. Her notes are flat and, since it's the Rolling Stones, she should jump around more and get into it! She likes to dance, so she should dance - not just wave her hand around like some self-conscious, stilted beauty queen.

I sit and watch as tears go by.

Why? Even if you don't like her there's no doubt she's a legend in the making. Her carrier is one of the best of this generation. I know classic rock is good music, to a lot the best but you've got to be open minded and see the good in the new generations.

She seems more poised now, her attitude stronger, more womanly-lady-like, yet sexy as all hell. It seems she has changed a lot in a year since i first took real note of her. so incredibly beautiful. I want someone to disagree with me in person, so i can tell them off haha. It gets tiresome responding to those that diss her online (cowardly hiding behind a computer screen). I kinda understand why they might (hatred for mainstream and those at the top/envy?), and again I dont understand it. I wish to have a word with someone in person that disrespect her. that might be fun. I love what she has to say, and she says it most beautifully.

This comment section is so insulting. One thing I like about Taylor is her voice isn't perfect. I would have thought that the older generation of people would understand that when it comes to music, it's not about being a technically perfect vocalist, but expressing your emotions through music. That is exactly what she does. Just take her song Ronan for example. It's one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. It's pain pouring out.

Rolling stones - as tears go by
It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
    Smiling faces i can see
    But not for me
I sit and watch as tears go by
    My riches can't buy everything
I want to hear the children sing
All I hear is the sound
Of rain falling on the ground
I sit and watch as tears go by
It is the evening of the day
I sit and watch the children play
Doing things I used to do
    They think are new
I sit and watch as tears go by

I love how haters are claiming album sales and awards don't mean it's good music. Well, if you want more, Jon Bon Jovi was on CNN and while he wasn't fond of Justin Bieber, he said Taylor "is the real deal." She has also gotten praise from artists/bands like Stevie Nicks, Def Leppard, James Taylor, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, and the list goes on and on. She couldn't care less about your opinion because she's received enough respect from actual musicians.

Stones are just a tribute band to themselves -- Jagger lost it a long time ago -- but they were great in their time. Taylor Swift is a musical nonentity. Whole thing is a musical horror show.

It was awful. I mean, it's great to hear the Stones, they are still fantastic after all these years! Mick seems to have more energy than Taylor, who only seems to care about showing off her body and making affected, choreographed, unspontaneous movements. She should loosen up. I think Keith Richards was laughing at the whole thing. The Rolling Stones deserve to continue being heard and Ms. Swift - who I actually thought was better than she seems here - should work more on her music.
