The weird sound during Layne's solo was done by Layne. A general rule with VP is, if you hear weird noises, it's 99% certain it's Layne, lol. It was done by an inhale "woah" sound.😊
His voice is amazing. Incredibly versatile & he brings such an attitude. His sass is his signature & I’m always here for it! Absolutely delighted that he’s a permanent member of the group. He fits like a puzzle piece.
When Geoff (who did the arrangement) isn't actually singing lyrics in this song, he's busy out-bassing a bass guitar part! So much fun to hear Cesar talking (for a change!), getting to see his personality outside of VoicePlay videos!
The shirt has "VIOLAYNE" on the front, and "A capella It's Better with Instruments" on the back. Yep, I never buy merch but I have that shirt! So great to see Cesar here and chatting with you guys about the music.
Fantastic reaction, and what a delight to see Cesar watching himself. And how fascinating to hear about the inner workings of Voiceplay! The arrangers sing ALL the parts? Wow! Amazing! I fell for Cesar the moment he flicked that fan in "We're Good!" He's such a charmer! And I think Geoff has inspired more facial expressions than anyone else! This is one of their best. Who doesn't love it when Eli gets into his rock god mode?
The Nothing Else Matters arrangement is nothing short of genius and so extremely well executed. Love these guys - and Cesar is just the furnace nevermind the life of the party! If you watch any of the live performances of the Chicago concert online you will see that he just killed the vocals and brought so much energy to the stage. Can never go wrong with VP. Thank you for this - it was fun!🌹🕊
@Throga I don't know if you guys caught it, but the Violin Solo was not recorded on the violin in the video. The violin in the video was a cheapie electric violin that looked good that was, for all intents and purposes, a prop. What was recorded for the video and what we actually heard was Layne on his personal violin. So yeah, that was recorded by a Virtuoso Violinist on, presumably, a VERY expensive violin. I would also have to assume Layne brought the violin in to Pattycake and recorded it there in the company's studio so that he could attach all the electronics to it to get the "electric violin" sound needed for the song. I could be wrong, but I doubt Layne has a full electronic/electric setup in his home studio. Also, I would imagine the acoustics in a large, proper, recording studio as opposed to his home studio is vastly different, making recording at Pattycake the more likely scenario. Also, Fun Fact: Geoff wrote that solo in full a capella. They tried it. Didn't like it. Felt that something was missing. Then Geoff turned to Layne and was like, "VioLayne." Layne agreed and Geoff re-wrote the solo for violin with full a capella backing, or as many reactors have called it: "A Wall Of Sound." I have to imagine that that Patrons were treated with the original full a capella recording of the solo. I could be wrong, but based on everything I've heard about Patreon, VoicePlay treats their Patrons well and gives them all kinds of behind-the-scenes stuff so it would not surprise me if they gifted their Patrons with the full a capella version of that solo.
Voiceplay has done a lot of great stuff - but for me this is one of, if not their very best. Musically it is outstanding - which is why I think the 'theater guys' of Acapella music used a stripped down set and muted tones to keep the focus on the music. Excellent reaction, and fun interaction!
Just so you know, Eli - in this case - is short for Eliezer. Geoff's imagination is phenomenal. How he comes up with his arrangements is beyond me. Ditto Layne of course. And Eli. And of course, Cesar is just adorable. This was brilliant. Thank you.
I love Cesar. He always makes me smile. When I get a notification for a short I firstly search out Cesar. His facial expressions make my day. His voice is amazing and fits that beautiful face and smile. I believe that smile makes the music coming forth even more grand and appreciative. Thanks for the wonderful reaction and for sharing Cesar with us. What a wonderful treat. ❤️
Hola desde Argentina... Ohhh...
Thank you for reacting to what many of us call Metallicappella. I am not a big fan of metal, but the song is glorious. It has surprise a lot of dedicated metalheads. And thank you for your featured guest! Cesar somehow combines 100% sass with 100% vulnerability. He is never ever predictable for sure! Eli recently did a spectacular solo arrangement of Radiohead’s Creep. Cesar put so much of himself into it that it was probably 20 to 30 viewings before I could watch it without crying. His willingness to be so vulnerable is astonishing. I’m so glad that you let the patron roll go. In the last few years they have been using their karaoke track during the outro. As someone without any musical training, the karaoke track is especially helpful. I can isolate each person’s contribution more easily. Then when I go back to listen to the entire piece I appreciate it that much more. It’s one of my favorite perks of being a patron. By the way, Adriana was probably 17 or 18 years years old when they made this. Cesar says he’s the baby but there are a few featured artists that make him the old man! 😂 You really nailed it when you pointed out that they allow each artist to be featured in some way. Sometimes one person is more of a lead, but they’re always careful to highlight each person‘s contribution. I really enjoyed this even more than your other reactions because we got an inside view of the process. I would love to see you interview Geoff to get his take. And then just for the pure enjoyment, interview Layne . He is not only brilliant but hilarious and has some of the most organic beatboxing sounds I’ve heard. Many people say he swallowed a drum kit, but I believe he swallowed a drum kit, a synthesizer, and possibly an alien. I would love to see you react to their cover of In the Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg. It’s definitely a Layne production. It is so unique and updates a classical piece into modern comedy.
When I first heard this cover of "Nothing Else Matters," the use of the Am chord after Geoff's part threw me for a loop. I have been covering this song since it came out, and know the song uses an A Major chord and not an Am. Just VoicePlay being VoicePlay; using chord substitutions and making it work.
Nice reactions and interview. I have to say, from where I sit, Voiceplay has really been upping their game. Their version of Nothing Else Matters goes WAY beyond nice and amusing. When I first heard/watched it I was like holy crap, this is the shit!
