After hearing this, and knowing the lyrics, you can think back to the Ado reaction and connect why Ado sang the song the way she did live. How she was able to convey the pain in the song and the emotions, it's fascinating.
This is seriously one of the best anime openings of all time. 💯

essay ahead, sorry, i'm just such a big fan of TK and have been for 10+ years, I take every opportunity to yap about him and his music.
10:13 Correction: The tension and the really tight high pitch and screaming is very much a staple for TK's solo work and his band Ling tosite sigure's music actually. Although he does tend to scream less on his solo work than with his band because it's more pop-leaning/orchestral than rock. Often he/they switch from screaming to falsetto to head voice to whispering back to screaming right after the other. Ling tosite sigure has 3 members, TK (vocal/guitar), 345/Miyoko (vocal/bass), and Pierre Nakano (drums). His vocal chemistry with 345 is really something special. TK's vocal agility is crazy and these registers that he uses make his voice so varied even if, generally, he stays at these high octaves. He's never sung a song in full that's at a low octave or what you would normally expect from him if you've heard his speaking voice. His speaking voice is a typical deep voice for a man.
The backstory for his high-pitch singing is quite interesting. When he was just starting out recording in a studio that was really run-down with Ling tosite sigure, he couldn't hear himself because he made the volume of his guitar too loud in the mix but he could hear himself if he sang an octave higher. In his words, he "felt like [he] found what was right for [him]" so it stuck.
If you're interested at all in TK's other music that has those same shifts and emotionality, I'd recommend:
TK from Ling tosite sigure (solo)
1. film A moment (live version: Rock in Japan Festival 2013) - his best solo work imo. the dynamics are so crazy and it's heartbreaking and hopeful and everything in between
2. first death (live version: last death 2022) - aka ending 8 for the Chainsaw Man anime
3. Bonnou (live version: yesworld tour 2021) - lyrics are cool, good demo of his whisper-singing (which i think is different from his falsetto or head voice, it's very interesting)
Ling tosite sigure (band)
1. a symmetry (live version: dead is alive tour 2022) - i think this is the best demonstration of how agile TK's voice is. it has him rapid-fire transition from a mixed voice to growling/screaming to this beautiful falsetto and back and forth.
2. Missing Ling (live version: dead is alive tour 2022) - the progression is so cool, also fast switches from falsetto to screaming towards the end
3. alexithymia spare (live version: live love music 2023) - it's an incredibly fast-paced and he's still doing those register shifts whisper/falsetto/head voice/mixed voice/screaming

TK and/or Ling Tosite Sigure's style is sad (more like emotional) metal music. I can't get over how well their violin mesh with the rock/metal music in the original (and some other entries). Top of that, boom, you can just make unravel an emotional ballad by removing the guitars/drums.
That was fascinating. I cannot unsee his thyroid cartilage moving all the way up into his oral cavity. Will never be able to watching singing the same way again.

I love this song and the emotion TK sings with❤ it will always remind me of Tokyo Ghoul.

@@mademoisellemaxime There are over 25 covers of this song, even a British one in English. But I don't consider it a lyrical song, considering what it's about. By the way, this is an option with classical instruments, TK usually sings it differently
@@Olkam-w5uI've heard TK's original and it's great, of course. That doesn't stop me from thinking Zhou Shen also did justice to the song with his own rendition. TK himself praised Zhou Shen's voice and was happy with the performance.
