I find these list of plants so useful. They have introduced me to varieties that I tend to overlook. I have the Chitalpa. Mine are small, but I expect big things from them. It's tough to decide sometimes what to plant as I find I want "All the plants!" Not sure what the drink you have there is (iced coffee?) Sure looks yummy!

This year my calycanthus (I have a variety called Hartlage wine) bloomed nonstop from April until July. What a performer. I've also seen a couple of very old sweetshrubs in Turin city centre, which is not only one of the most polluted cities in Italy but in all of Europe, hadn't seen a drop of water in ages, let alone fertilizer, planted basically in full concrete, surrounded by all kind of vehicles: it was in full bloom.

Can you do a “in memory of” video of the plants/trees you’ve lost and what you learned from that experience or if you decided to use/not use again and why? Also, I’d be interested in your opinion (maybe even a video) on planting more plants/shrubs/trees that are native to attract native pollinators. Is planting native something you’ve considered doing or if you aren’t interested in the subject.

Totally redid the two beds in my front yard, and while looking for a low growing evergreen, I found a juniper called Nana. Very similar to the one you planted but not as high, the color and texture is very pretty surrounded by perennials. Since we're on the subject of unusual shrubs I found an elderberry called Dark Tower that grows tall while staying narrow-3 to 4 feet wide. Planted 3 to form a small hedge and 1 to fill a gap in a mixed shrub hedge and they are really taking off. Leaves start out bright green and gradually darken, nice contrast with the usual greens and goes well with ninebarks. I'm in Minnesota zones 4b to 5.

Ive just added a half dozen shrubs to my wish list, and i already have the other four! I also really love my oakleaf hydrangeas, that deep reddish purple fall color on the leaves is spectacular. And just cutting one bloom with some leaves is so dramatic and fantastic in a vase, add excellent cut flower to their attributes.

Hi Laura, I really enjoyed this video! Yesterday, we planted two Shake Shack Button Bushes. I hadn't heard of them and thought they looked quite distinct in the garden centre. My must have shrubs are spireas, goldenrods, quick fire hydrangeas (I prefer the flatter flower), and smoke bushes. We just planted a tiger eye sumac in an area where there is lots of room to grow, knowing we will have to stay on top of the suckering. That you took yours out is causing me pause...
