I have an Ember with a scandi grind with hickory handle scales. I would take it over anything else. Brilliant design and high quality manufacturing for an affordable price. My wife has the flat grind with olive burl, beautiful and lightweight. Joker and Jose really did a magnificent job with this knife.

I'm not a bushcraft guy, I mostly just like good knives, and I love Jokers. You get so much knife for your money. If you have an eye for quality and style you can't help noticing how they stand out from the pack. I worry enough of us knife nuts will notice that they'll raise their prices, but it looks like there's time to grab a couple more of the ones I like best before that happens. Great review and they're both excellent knives but Jokers are good enough for the likes of me.

Hello Jose. Steven from Holland here. As you know I'm really happy with all the Joker knives by your design so far. Between these two I like the blade shape of the Brisa better but the handle of the Joker. Now I did see pictures of the Montañero in scandi grind (birch handle) and that blade looks similar to the Brisa (French trapper style blade) but with a better handle. I would like the scandi Montañero with micarta handle but can't find it. Is that knife gonna be produced and coming back?

I don't own any Brisa knives but I own several Jokers, including the Ember Scandi and it is one of my favorite knives. It does everything I need it do for bushcraft and wilderness survival, including scraping a ferro rod. Perhaps not as well as my Garberg but enough to get a fire started. I prefer to use the saw blade on my Leatherman or Victorinox for scraping a ferro rod anyway. But I much prefer the grip on the Ember over the Garberg and just about every other knife that I own. Mine is the micarta version and the fit and finish are perfect. It looks and feels like a $250 custom knife but it cost 1/3 that amount.

I bought the trapper in O1 a few years back. It definitely has every single good points that you mentioned. I really wanna love the knife, but what always bothered me was the handle. Been watching for years and we share the same taste in knives.... The Cudeman Sanabria mini is amazing , I convexed the v grind away and am so impressed I'm buying the regular version. I've NEVER been so happy with a knife edge design. The thing is a wicked carving knife esp the belly for spoon making. I think you would love it...I am also 6ft3 and got big mitts, for a little belt knife it gets all four of my digits.
The v grind it comes with is sharp but it wasn't until I reprofiled it that I fell in love.
Once I'm able I'm buying the big one ....I just bought the Becker BK18 Harpoon and it's awesome but gotta thin the herd for a new one .
I can't get caught up in having to many blades anymore. Just want knives that work.
Love your reviews as always brother.

Thank you for the great review. I had purchased a Mora Garberg this week and when it arrived, I was so disappointed in the look and feel of it that I'm returning it today. I am going to purchase the Joker with its stainless blade. I live in coastal Florida where the. salt air destroys eveything. Especially carbon steel. I make knifes and customize axes and must keep them coated in oil. I made a scandi knife in O1 steel that pitted while my handle scales were curing from the glue up. I removed the tape I had added to protect the blade from epoxy runout and I had a rusty knife from the get go. Thanks again!

I agree. The Brisa Trapper is for smaller hands. I like the French trapper knife design better than the Kephart style spearpoint. The Brisa/Enzo Trapper in D2 steel with micarta scales is my most used knife for the outdoors but I had to round of the pommel for the reverse grip because I have bigger hands also and the handle is a bit thin for prolonged use giving me hand fatigue. The Joker Ember handle sure fits my hand better. Because of the handle I think the Joker knives will become my new most used knives but that's because I have big hands. But this review is spot on indeed. People focus on steel too much where the handle is the most important part.

I really appreciate this review, it seemed very honest, and I feel like it was a good choice on comparison...I actually own 2 of the joker embers, one with the scandi and one with the flat grind, both with micarta handles, I can't complain about either, as to which of those I prefer it depends heavily on the job I'm doing, as for between the brisa or joker, i dont own the brisa yet...my personal closest comparison was the morakniv garberg, and to be honest they are so similar in form and function, I feel like the ember is a little more comfortable in hand, but the garberg is cheaper, either is a good option...I do see a benefit on the brisa, if you scout carry or plan to edc one, it does seem just a bit more compact, which may benefit some...anyway great video, thought you done a good job in picking up on the details that matter to those of us who use a knife regularly

The Joker is stouter & the Enzo is more nimble. You can carry a hatchet for heavier work with the Enzo or a finer blade with the Joker . Neither are a one - tool - opinion . Replacing the Snap if sold or traded would be nearly impossible. I'd keep the Enzo

    • @mmiller73
      @mmiller73 2 роки тому +1

I agree with this. I carry a Leatherman or a Victorinox with my Ember. When I do carry a hatchet I leave the Ember home and will often trade the Leatherman or Victorinox for a Mora Classic or Puukko knife.

I prefer the Joker, but I'm biased. My Nessmuk is outstanding! The Swedish alloy is superior steel, it holds its edge, and you're right, no maintenance is really nice. I like the extended tang on the Joker as well and the handle looks so much more comfortable. I have small hands but narrow handles always leave hot spots on my hands while the wider handle on the Joker (like my Nessmuk as well) is far easier to manage and let's face it the handle is the interface between human and blade. Seems like a no-brainer to me, but then I'm biased as I said and wouldn't give my Joker up, ever!!! I really like the way you produced your video - nice job and very informative.

I bought a Brisa Trapper 95 N690Co in green micarta recently . It is really well-made but unfortunately the handle was not comfortable and the micarta not very grippy. My Moras have better handles eg HD Companion, 2000 and Mora Bushcraft Black. Even the Mora Garberg has a better grip. So I had to return the Brisa. Furthermore the Brisa now retails in the UK at around a third more than the Ember so very interested in this comparison.

Great review. Ive been looking at jokers. I had a 95 enzo in O1 steel. Found the edge would get too many microchips after use; so i sold it. In this review i think i would choose the joker. I just built a NORDIC KNIFE DESIGN Forester 100. Its made by a guy that was dual owners of Brisa , he started his own company. Anyways its basically the Trapper but 4mm , i didnt like the edge esp the upsweep it was so dull. I had to do a 2 hour slow sandpaper on board reprofile to even out the edge. It was two different grind angles cause the edge is too abrupt on the belly to tip.
Some of the Joker knives have that same smaller belly edge , i dont like it....The Garberg is like that especially the 14C28N version, they convex way to easily. I've heard the Carbon Garberg has a better edge ?? I'll have to buy one and see.
Anyways after fixing the Forester I actually really like it now. My own handle in Birch is nice an thick with green liners.
    Bought it all on
    Thompsons Scandanavian knife supplies.
$38 for the blade 80crv2 carbon ....Its filthy covered in heat treat scale but looks so cool once ya clean it a bit.
I gotta do a video review and share it with people cause there is no good vids at all.
Anyways brother just blabbing knife stuff, I think you might like the build and have the skills to fix the edge if it needs it . Mine might of been a dud, but now it cuts awesomely. 😉 I always get a bit nervous doing big reprofile tasks on a blade .
    Blessings brother 🙏

From your description neither of them would throw sparks without the user filing the spine. Not criticizing, just wondering if maybe that was a bit of a verbal typo.
