Hi, my name is Merrill Kazanjian. New York City is an amazing place to go metal detecting. We have lots of parks, colonial history and great beaches for beach detecting. I have gone to all five boroughs of New York City To Metal Detect and beyond. I also currently own 16 metal detectors. I want to have the best and I want to help you choose the best as well. I am a treasure hunter. So in addition to metal detecting, I go mudlarking at sites such as Dead Horse Bay. Think of mudlarking as metal detecting without a metal detector.

My most important series is called Becoming A Millionaire Metal Detecting. I am trying to monetize my favorite hobby in order to do it more in the future. In other words, we put the clad we find in the ground, affiliate earnings, and merchandise earnings in to the stock market and we invest it. This show started in January 2019.

You have confirmed what I thought about sinking coins and soil conditions. I gotta go; it rained here yesterday.
Mark - The Burgh Hunter Oh I completely understand!
Here in Minnesota our soil is all dependent on location. There was a 100+ house I detected years ago where I found Indian head Pennies and buffalo nickels 2 inches or less under the ground. Then you go down the street and get into an old school where you find wheat Pennies from the 40s like 8 inches under the ground. Some places are like time capsules where the targets don’t go too deep
First week ever i have start metal detecting i have find 2 coins 1666
I had no experience at all i Bearley now how to use the detector but i was searching on the right place!
Great job Merrill ! Love the animation. I would like to add that I have had good results detecting around large trees. I believe as the tree grows, and its roots grow, it pushes soil and what's in the soil up. I have found many old coins 80 plus years old no deeper than 2 or 3 inches. And to answer your question ….. my oldest coin was a 1887 Indian head penny, 2 inches deep under a large tree. Found that up here in Canada.
Brian Quilty I’m reading these comments and I’m thinking about doing a video on tips left in comments. This is great Brian. Thank you.
i found very old coing not that deep.I find 3 close to river the oldest was 1816 and i found in forest one 1816.and they were only 10 to 20 cm deep.
Really enjoy watching your stuff. Thanks so much for sharing.
I get coins and rings as well as other goodies down in 2ft range using Fisher
CZ21 water machines all the time in all metal mode - have to crank sensitivity and listen for slightest fluctuations in tone - I hit a lot of "hunted out" water spots and still get
deep goodies many others miss - last few yrs I have used at CW hunts that had been hit
by lots of other hunters and gotten deep CW bullets and musket balls as well as frags
that I could see old holes near by - couple of other hunters near by went over my signals with top of the line land machines and could not pick them up - one guy said he got a "ghost" signal on every 4th swing but he thought I was chasing a ghost till I pulled a musketball close to 2 foot range
Very informative my friend! Using a GPX 4500 I have dug Civil war bullets at 2 feet Deep.
WHAAAAAT? This is why I like posting videos like this. I share what I know but I certainly dont know everything. 2 ft?? Thats insane! Im googling GPX 4500 right now.
Lol Its a pulse induction metal detector. Main use is for finding gold. But these relic hunters figured out it will also find relics at great deprh in hot soil
@@WILLBDIGGIN How about coins? I have found civil war bullets before and they have rung up like fishing weights. Have you found coins that deep?
@@WILLBDIGGIN Found a video on the topic: ua-cam.com/video/9KLsoc-ahVI/v-deo.html
The only time I use the gpx is when I'm relic hunting.I have never dug a coin that deep, but have dug button's well over a foot. Unfortunately not a lot of coins come up in those Civil war sites. Or at least I don't find them lol!
Totally on point. Damp ground is a great day for detecting. I've never found a coin deeper than 12" with my 15" coil on my Nox 800, so I agree that is about the limit. Thanks, great job.
Dropping crazy science..love it..you need to start a tour of dectorist science across the country
Thank you Tim. I followed your advice with one of your last comments on how to know when to quit a site. It was the point that if you get deep signals that are modern.
Awesome video.
Diggin Juggernaut thank you so much!
Awesome information! Thanks for sharing it!
Thank YOU!
well explained....thats why i luv ur channel
Love the dancing worms!
Merrill, thanks for another entertaining video. It's probably more fun watching one of your videos than me going out and detecting myself.
Awesome video man!
Very cool video , thanks Mike Espo.........
Thanks!
Thank you
Your videos are timeless 👍🏻
Todays lecture was sponsored by.... hehehe Very informative and helpful, especially the map. When soundview park was developing the track and soccer fields few years back, I was there late after construction was finished. I found alot of bottles and pewter.
WOT = wonderful orange thing. With the WOT I dug a barber dime at a measured sixteen & one half inches..
No lie during the transit strike of 1981 I found a Spanish silver dollar walking over the kosciusko bridge!
Whaaaaat? You are the NYC surface king! Did you see the new Kisciusko Bridge?
Seen picturez. Can't be any worse
You gave me some great information on the historical maps. Thank you Merrill!!! By the way get Adele on You tube. She is awesome!
I hit a deep 14" conn. Colonial copper in block Island miraculously with the stock nox 800 coil. Also hit a 12-15" deep 1904-O barber quarter lol my entire arm was in the damn hole so i thought it was a big nail and got anxious and slashed the back of it like a jacka$$ lol lord have mercy. I was very upset. Im definitely getting the 6" and the 15" coils very soon
After eleven years and over 1400 silver coins of detecting, my only semi rare coin, I scratched the overse. It looked like it was dropped when it was nearly new. An 1897s Half Dollar. 😂
Awesome “know-how info”, thank you🤝👍🙏🏻
Merrill, what about I get a signal and start digging. The hole is about 8 inches deep by now, and I use my coil again ( I made the hole quite wide, just in case ). How much deeper can I go now? Philippe, Bradenton FL
Do you use a pinpointer? Time saving piece of equipment!!! I would sweep my coil on all sides of the hole to see if one side gives me a stronger signal.
I think everyone has a concept of why various coins end up at depths they do. Obviously to me, over time debris and cuttings fill in over and decompose. Then over time it fills over enough to reach the new roots beginnings of the turf. Then since clad coins erode and develop the rough surface, the roots growing downward catch on that and start shooting them downward. If anyone notices sometimes silver coins are super shallow when clad is deeper, I always believed it was because the silver remains smooth and unblemished so it's more slippery, with the exception of larger quarters and bigger because of weight drop. But you may notice most silver dimes are fairly shallow while older nickels tend to be deep and not nearly as commonly found. There, I've solved it in my head to my own conclusion. As long as I'm half right, I'm only half wrong.
But yes, natural yards composed of thick black soil are like sinkholes for coins. I've come across ancient properties with that type of soil and find very little until I come near the gravel driveway portions that slowed down the fall.
I find 1700s coins at 2-3 inchs deep sometimes,, coins dont always sink,
Talk to your local street repair people and the local builders. Find out where they DUMP all the top soil they remove from a site. I know where my county DUMPS. HeHe..
That is a PHENOMENAL tip!
Haven't spent my metal detecting change. Maybe I should dump it into my Etrade acct.
The Lou D711 if you do the coin star I suggest choosing the gift certificate so that no fee is taken. Some banks offer this for free as well!
If the coin is at the outer limits can it also be said to be in the twilight zone?
Darn it I think so!
I guess you missed that stop sign huh? hahahahaaaaa
how many tickets do you get a year anyways?? hahahahaaaa
If a cop followed you around Merrill, he would probably break a record for most tickets in a day.
Invineo 4 meters
How deep was the deepest target you ever dug? What was it?
Well over 12 inches. It was a cast iron fireback. HUGE.....
@@RonJustDiggingLife Wow, I just googled that! That must have taken a long time to dig out! I might have to add that to my bucket list!
2'+ a thimble and a farm tool
The Lou D711 2 feet????😵
3feet it was a weird pice of brass
Lol! Wtf!?! Twerking worms!?!
It was a teachable moment on how dirt is made! LOL,,,,,I couldve shown a picture of an earthworm but I got some artistic inspiration! Thanks for watching Robinhood Rich!
I know something that can get coins at the range your talking...Staying out of jail for unpaid parking tickets is a plus
Coins don't DROP, just resodded.
this is the darndest metal detecting video i've ever seen. Nothing was found I mean who does that? I bet Adel would probably say only a nincapoop doesn't metal detect on a metal detecting channel. Hhahahahaaaaaaa
A nincapoop? You believe Merrill is a nincomepoop? Sorry Merrill but thomas is right. But it's still an excellent video. Tnaks
NEVER DID DEEP, NO Gold down there, you guys make a big deal over a Wheatie. You dig deep, I'll outhunt you.
