We really love your videos! My wife and I have painted most of the exterior and much of the interior on our 6500 sq ft home to put it on the market and used many tips from your videos. The results have been excellent! We had two professional painters finish two high dormers (ladders set on the roof) that I didn't feel safe doing and they said numerous times that it looked like pros panted our house. A lot of thanks to your videos. Thank you!
Thanks for all the great content you've made over the years, Chris. It has been enormously helpful to me in improving my knowledge and ability as a painter.
Last summer did a project that involved 40 functional french shutters. Went a lot like this. Hi gloss black, used lower PSI though. Came out stunning. Knowing how to spray is just essential
Just sprayed some doors yesterday with a 308 tip. Got runs everywhere. Now, after watching this video, i realized that i was going up and down too slow, so a lot of paint was being put on the doors. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Hey Idaho Painter! I'm really loving your channel, a guy could get a great start as a painter by watching your videos! I'm going to recommend them to any of my friends who is thinking about taking up the trade.
Thank you Chris for these videos! They helped me tremendously as we painted our new home! One more house in the U.S. looking better because of your generosity and efforts!
I've watched nearly all you painting videos and picking up the best advice from you. I work for a friend and a lot of work we do are doors, cabinets and a ton of trim work. I almost cry watching you get to use an airless sprayer because he's got us using a roller and paint brush for them all, even though he has a spray machine. He says it takes longer to prep and clean up so brushing is better, I just shake my head Chris. Only thing holding me back from starting my own business is learning what different paints to use and doing bids. Once I get the knowledge of paint I'm ordering you bidding course. I already own a residential sealcoating company, I just need more work and need to take it up a notch. What's your advice with trim work even if the residents are home? Most of our work is all apartment turns. Thanks Chris for taking your time to make these videos bud. The new format is awesome.
I wish my dad could watch your videos. He was a 3rd generation residential painter who worked from age 15 to 70. I'm married to an Idahoan - Coeur d'Alene.
I have been in building and remodeling trade for over 40 years, really enjoy your videos. I picked up some tips as old saying goes you never are to old to learn something. keep up the great videos Chris. thanks Rick
The new video format is ok; I liked the old format too. Your channel works because you know what you are doing and teaching people. I'm transitioning to spraying and these videos really help.
great video. if you put the airless hose behind you, you risk less chance of hose slap. when the hose accidentally slaps the door or whatever your painting. just a tip for all those watching. paint life!
What i like about you, aside from your painting quality, you don't get all ate up with mess ups on camera. You have fun with it, which leads to us seeing a true real person. Too much fake nowadays, so please stay this way! 👍👍
I sprayed them just like you did in this video (outside) with 311 flat tip (not FF) and got lines and hazing. Could it be because they dried too fast (it was windy). I sprayed very evenly and consistently, overlapping 50% just like in this video.
I had some painters come and paint brand new doors black. They are outside wooden doors with a small white plastic trim around the windows and the paint keeps scratching off on it is there a paint they can spray on that won’t peel up?
Thanks Chris I'm a new subscriber and I have already learned a lot from your videos especially the mistakes I've made. I'll make sure I look at your videos on my upcoming projects in order to cut down on the errors. Thanks again
Make sense. Thank you! I have one tip for you as well. When you mask a room around the ceiling with the paper over plastic. Try to use Multi-Purpose Spray Adhesive by 3M instead of 3m yellow tape 2020. Works well and it is super fast!
Hi Chris, thanks for the wonderful tips. Im using a graco X5 and i was painting doors and i got overspray. Should i sand it in the overrun after drying out and do a second coat?
I swear we have the same procedures in tons of ways but 1 way I can tell your more superior is with that little 2 ft spray arm especially would help that I'm a midget!! Your cabinet video is on point as well your bid and my price came out almost identical I woulda bid $5000 but the way you break it down is far more in depth than how I got to my number but I truly dig your style more and FYI I'm gonna use it if ya don't mind!
Great Video. New Format Looking awesome. Thanks for all the great tips. With your help I have learned new technique's and ways to save money. Keep up the great work.
hey Chris, is it important to paint the bottom and top edges of the door? ive heard with these MDF style doors that it can cause sweeling and warping if they are not sealed on all sides... is this true? thanks
Home Improvement How To's thanks for the reply im installing 2 doors in my basement reno... i think il do all sides, being a basement might see more moisture than a main floor
How did you keep the doors standing, what method did you use? Great tips ; fast efficient excellent craftsmanship and an entertaining personality, your fun to watch.
How do you eliminate dust from going on the paint when you spray cause when I spray doors I always get tiny bit of dust and the rooms always clean I use a grace air assisted fine finish 412 And what's the device you use to hold the doors up on the hinges
Is that a gloss paint on the doors...I'm from Ireland☘ its what's mainly used on doors and wood over here takes ages to paint gloss. Plus I don't think it can be sprayed... thanks Larry
hello. i just sprayed with a graco 310 ff tip. i had to thin the paint quite a bit. what type of paint and how much thinning did you need to do to get the paint through a small 310 tip? thank you!!!
How many coats do you need for doors & trim? I have some doors that are unfinished pine, some white doors, some doors stained/varnished (but very old stain/varnish, 1892 house). Thank you!
question... I've been doing this for years, without problems, and just recently I have had a problem with a cloudy finish on my doors. my 311 tip may need replacing as I have fingering, but I have my Graco 395 turned way up to 3o clock, so the fingering isn't leaving any definitive lines. just an over all cloudy, uneven sheen. I'm using BM aura, satin finish, spraying them in a room at about 65*c. Any thoughts? it's incredibly frustrating. thanks.
The Idaho Painter ... thanks a bunch for your ideas. I asked an old Benjamin Moore rep, because I was suspicious of the paint - apparently Aura is too thick an acrylic to push through a fine tip, as well as most sprayers. Used a different product, everything turned out great. Cheers.
question ,a video on how to paint a drop ceiling or maybe you call it a sunken ceiling two different colors, leaving the edges sharp, best effiecent method please
Hey Chris, i am a painter & decorator in Brazil and wonder whether you can post the door hangers my way here in Sao Paulo? I do airless for 15 years and never came across these hangers they seem simple but sure are revolutionary in our industry. looking forward hearing from you.
Chris what paint are you using. Recently painted trim with 310 tip SW proclassic and got terrible fisheyes both times on my first coat. Seemed to clear up when I let the sun hit the trim while painting. Very weird. Sprayed in a diy spray booth outside. All trim was cleaned, blown off than tack clothed.
hi Chris I really love your Channel you teach really great skills I want start my own business and by watching your channel I know I could do it thank you so much
I sprayed our new doors with a sprayer. I strained the paint. After drying, there are a lot of little fibers. Any tips on how not to have fibers showing on final coat? Thanks!
So Smooth! Looks like you are ~6 inches at most from the doors. I counted 9-12 sweeps per door. A 310 at 6 inches = 3 inches & doors are ~32 inches, so the above numbers must be true. So why at 6 inches or closer? It cant be overspray cause your outside, does it produce better finish? Just saw another pro painter do doors but near a foot away with 510, they started with one edge then to front door face spraying the outer edges of door face first, meaning outside right face, across bottom face, then up other side, across top face, then 3 vertical sweeps on door face and finish by spraying other side edge on door. Massive massive over spray of paint I could see. So 2 very different techniques, would love to know why you are so close. Great demo , thanks Chris!
Hi..thanks very much for your video. I have painted with roller my kitchen cabinet. I want to have it glossy. What can i do? I placed 2 coats of primer and 2 coats finish. On the last coat, previously i sanded with 220 yo have a smooth finish...1..should i have to sanded with 400 and then apply another coat?..2..what paint to use to vae a glossy finish. 3..I want to spray the last coat. Please Reply. THANKS>
The Idaho Painter... well said, and please, put the brush away! just refinished a bunch of cabinets for a customer who tried themselves with a brush, and then asked why they had a bunch of lines and sagging on the surface...
@@Idahopainter awesome thank you! Just sprayed 9 doors today for the first time. Thanks for all your tips and videos, SUPER HELPFUL. My customers were extremely happy with how it looks. I did use a deglosser/degreaser from Klean-Strip. What brand do you recommend?

dude. I painted my entire house by watching your videos. Cut the entire house by hand and learned to spray my doors. People think a pro did it.
Hi! Thanks for the tips, they're very helpful. Where can I get those door hanger?
When spraying properly, and the door is pre-primed, is only 1 coat good enough? Or 2?
Thanks so much for sharing of your time, knowledge and talents! I continue to learn from you!
Why do you never have a link with the type of paint that you use?
How do you keep the doors upright so you can spray both sides at once?
I wanna know too

Put something really bright close by, say a yellow shopping bag and the flies will be more interested in that than your fresh paint! 😊

We would recommend rolling it
You spoke about a "paint door hanger". What is that?
I'd like to see that. Even on a pre coat door there's exposed / bare spots in the pre prime coat door. Still have to put a brush on it or roller
