In this video, I hot dish a disc of silicon bronze to form a helmet bowl. This bowl is the beginning of a series wherein I construct a bronze gladiatorial helmet. The starting disc is 1/4" thick material with 8 3/4" diameter. In addition to dishing, various cold forming techniques are utilized to achieve the final shape.

Glad you’re back in action! Be sure and religiously do any PT they give you for your shoulder, and do the same exercises on the un-injured side, simultaneously if possible, body mirroring will help the injured side try to emulate the good side and helps recovery!
One of the best channels
Murmillo and Thracian (Thrax) were the gladiators that used that helmet, the Murmillo was just a more heavily armored version of the Thrax
That is looking awesome! I can’t wait for this series. You are one of the main guys that has inspired my own metalworking journey
My brother was a coach builder and used a dressmaker's tape except for longer measurements
Great for measuring around curved and round forms. I used to keep one in my toolbox also for circumference measurements in my fitting welding job
Alot more versatile than a metal tape
Great video 👍
I like these more technical/descriptive videos. Thanks for all the hard work you and your team do to put out these videos for us.
Thac, the seven foot tall bicycle hoplite gladiator Hobbit!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience on bronze processing!! Greetings from Russia! It’s a pity that you don’t have many views there, your channel deserves a million subscribers!
Thank you for taking your time and explaining the technique you are using o/
Hell yeah! That is so rad!! So excited for this series!
Amazing work bud!
What a great talent!
Great video, love seeing your work, I learn something every time. Very satisfying watching you work in the lines in the helmet, thanks for sharing this with us!
(Oh yeah missed thumbnail opportunity at 14:09 😁)
yes!
Really impressive
Love your work
Always good to see your abilities to transform a disk of material in to an amazing 3D piece. Thanks for sharing your time & knowledge
Awesome work man 👍👍
sick!
Great job and video sir. I hope the rest does come soon from a watcher's view. Glad that it takes you a long time though from a business view.
Easily one of your best videos yet. Very informative as to what methods and tools you use. In the past, I’ve found myself pausing your videos so I can get a good look at the tooling you use and I have to make educated guesses. This format helps quite a bit. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Exciting new project. Looking forward to how it comes together.
Awesome project - can't wait to see more of it!
In my ignorance, i think that this is the standard process of making armor, back in the old days: an heavy doming of a very thick ingot (which joined two stages of work, the thinning and the doming of the piece), then a quick raising to adjust the shape and then adding details; what do you think about it?.
🤘
Greetings from Croatia!!!
Will you make a full body armor for Gladiator??
so. many. hours. hitting metal :O
phew, its going to have a lion head, thought for a moment the camel toe was going to make another appearance................
great vid and great work, great to be busy, glad you found some time to make stuff your soul needs
Going well.. I'm impressed. what is the "pitch" you use to support the lion head while cold forging?
Why not raise it with thinner stock as it will thicken some? I started helmet making then delved into blacksmithing so by no means an expert. Is this for
Sca or just for something else?
What country won't you name, and why?
I have a camel toe tool myself, but it's not used for hammering per say...........
Let me ask a question:Why you are feeling need to do it by your hand? For example, using my hydraulic press, I can craft same thing in half hour and save my shoulder
