I am moving to New Mexico from here on the East Coast, been planning on moving the last 2 years, looking forward to a new start in my life.. planning on making my journey there thus coming March,so excited, looks soo beautiful and wonderful peoples.. 😊
I live in Texas but I really want to visit New Mexico and maybe see if it would be a good place for me to move in the future. Having Mexican roots, New Mexican traditions really fascinate me and them preserving those traditions inspires me.
Beautiful. But a little dissapointing that the fading tradition of going to doors and yelling "mis crismes!" for cookies and fruit wasn't mentioned since it's probably unique to NM.
That sounds soo wonderful to do.. there was a time when everyone celebrated Christmas like that, but as people lost their spirit they lost their traditions.. I'm moving to New Mexico to start a new beginning in my life, and this place sounds perfect for me,I still hold tradition and spirit sacred, here on the East Coast it seems too far lost
No mention of the many “Anglo” influences? Leave it to PBS to paint a one sided history of New Mexico. “The Santa Fe Trail” was established early. Kit Carson is now a full fledged villan
NM isn't like this anymore--it was a magical place once upon a time. The Catholic Church lost ground here and Rome forgot what they had in the beautiful old mission churches. The Puebloans have coexisted with the Spanish but in the current trend of PC, Spanish traditions, and anything related to the Conquistador is out. Zozobra is now a pay for view event. We lived here since 84 and found it to be a desert paradise. Once developers were allowed to come in it was just a matter of time. They bring in their wake big box names, higher taxes and crime. Now even in Santa Fe ugly tract homes sprawl across the landscape as if we sit on an ocean of water; big box corporations push out the locals. Habitat for our wildlife is lost to the bulldozer while non-native plants replace the beautiful drought tolerant vegetation. Farmers are selling their land and water rights to cookie cutter subdivisions because its far more profitable. We gave up the treasure of a starry nite sky to light pollution because we must light the way for thieves. So much for farolitos, paper or plastic? Gone is the perfumed scent of pinon fires in deference to auto emissions. There are hardly any restaurants left which serve the New Mexican cuisine, very different from Tex-Mex. This is an excellent production. The best ever Colores! It moves me to tears with its reverence, humility and all that made NM unique. But you have to look hard to find these beautiful traditions depicted in Colores. NM is fast tracking to be like anywhere USA.
Don't know where you go, but it's all there if you look for it! It is still magical, still a Land of Enchantment. I grew up there and though much has changed, much remains. Certainly the politics exist, but there always has been a level of animosity between the Native Americans and Hispanics of the state.
@@wingsfan1450 I am hopeful that in the end we stay Original New Mexicans. if we become sad imitations of coastal california or texas, then we will have destroyed everything that made NM was it was and is. change is inevitable but let us avoid losing the good that Is in chasing new things.
Beautiful. I miss home so much at Christmas!

what amazes me is how few views it has had.

Revolt1680 I have heard of that tradition, we no longer go door to door but we do say it from time to time. Mis Christmas los mios
We did that as children in Northern New Mexico.

@@tomastanuz575 Me too! and good for us. Wish you were my neighbor. God Bless
Best description/reaction. And, yes, the best Colores as well.
NM either wants to be extra woke California up north or hick Texas in the south.

New Mexico is not like this anymore. Alot of the traditions are being lost. Young people dont participate as much.
