I hear you, the holidays used to have such a special kind of magic. Maybe we can bring a little of that back by reviving some of these old traditions. 🎄
I hear you! There’s so much magic in those simple, old traditions that kids today might never experience. Maybe we can bring some of them back and show them what they’re missing. 😊
Your memories must be so precious. It’s hard not to get emotional thinking about how special those times were. Maybe we can bring a bit of that magic back, even in small ways. Sending you a big, warm hug. ❤
I love the idea of reviving some of these traditions. Even ones I don't actually want to do myself (e.g., cardboard fake fireplaces and silver trees) still feel so nostalgic.
Exactly! Even if we don’t bring them all back, just remembering them brings a sense of warmth and nostalgia. It’s nice to think about how things used to be, and maybe even adapt a few traditions to fit our lives today.
Our family doesn't do gifts anymore (we were just buying each other things that we could buy ourselves so we just concentrated on getting together for supper) so I have no 'Christmas shopping' per se. I spend time in malls around Christmas because I love the way they look and smell but I'm not stressed like everyone else there.
That sounds like a lovely way to enjoy the season! Sometimes, just soaking in the festive atmosphere without the pressure of shopping can make the holidays even more special.
I know what you mean. The things that I miss about Xmas are: annual classic holiday TV specials, Xmas dinner with the family, animated movies in theaters, decorating the tree(and I mean a real tree not aluminum). Now @ 65 I live at a retirement community center and being the youngest in my family, I celebrate Xmas with other retirees until one of my nieces or nephews invite me over to their house for a Xmas dinner.
That sounds like a mix of bittersweet memories. It’s nice that you still get to enjoy the holiday with your community and family, even if things have changed over the years. Those classic holiday specials are timeless!
Agreed. I may be old fashioned with the holidays but still old school Xmas is a lot better than this modern way holiday stuff. Online, artificial intelligence just doesn't have the holiday flair.
Absolutely, the old-school charm of Christmas just has a special kind of magic that modern ways can’t quite capture. It’s those little traditions and personal touches that really make the holidays feel warm and meaningful. Sometimes, sticking to what’s tried and true is what makes the season so special.
Still have a Lionel train set under the tree. Friends and their kids love coming by an playing with it. It's not just a loop, but has 2 switches, and several operating accessories for loading and unloading cars.
Oh, I miss those days too! Driving around to see all the lights and decorations was such a fun part of the holidays. It felt like every house had its own story to tell through its display! 🎄✨
It magical.... My grandchildren don't no any of this.😢 and want gift cards, They sold the paper book of the songs so you could read them if you forgot,🙏😢❤❤
It’s tough when traditions aren’t passed down the same way. Maybe you could share some of these memories with your grandchildren-who knows, they might get inspired to try something different next year! ❤
As I said in a comment to old school sage," I may be old fashion with the holidays but old school holidays are a lot better than the modern way holiday stuff they're doing now." All this online and artificial intelligence stuff just doesn't have the same holiday flair as the old school holidays did.😊
You’re so right-it’s hard to beat the classic, old-school holiday traditions. They had a warmth and authenticity that’s tough to find in the modern, digital age. 😊 Sometimes, going back to the basics is what makes the holidays truly magical!
Haha, you got me there! Maybe I was a little too optimistic about Dad’s needle-threading skills. But hey, anything’s possible during the holidays, right? 😄
That’s so wonderful that you keep that tradition alive! It’s a shame not everyone does the same, but the effort you put into it really shows how much you care.
It's a good question. I think a lot of it comes down to how fast life moves now, and the ease of technology. But it’s never too late to bring some of those traditions back and make new memories!
I'm 57 and really miss the old days. It was so magical

I remember driving around looking at Christmas decorations people had outdoors.

Amen 🙏 to that! Amen 🙌
"....Dad would thread the needle"? 🤣Are you sure about that one?

I make my own Christmas cards every year. Only a few people reciprocate back.

Thank you… it brings me so much joy.
The question you need to ask yourself is WHY did YOU allow these centuries old traditions Die?
