Hit the road with Brandon and the classic Bell Custom 500. This three-quarter helmet is always a favorite with its iconic style and wide range of colors and graphics. - Авто та транспорт
Impressed with the lack of wind noise on the mic.
My favorite type of helmet. It is what I started with back in the late 1960s. When Bell was American made. I have owned full face. Don't like 'em. Open face with a visor is my choice. I will take a look at the Bell 500. Currently using an HJC that has a few scratches.
Great looking helmet! I wear a Bullitt I got from you guys, I really love it. Thinking about picking up one of these for my wife, she won't wear a full-face, so this is a good option.
Been riding with the Custom 500 Carbon for some time now, and it's so light it usually is forgotten that it's on my melon!
Is this Pennsylvania? Pennsylvania seems like a particularly good place to ride. It seems like you could cruise from one end to the other at about 35mph exclusively on little two-lane roads.
Looking good man that tash goes with it too 👍👍👍👍
Hey what size is Brandon wearing here? Sorry if he mentions and I missed it.
I was a Bell 500 user for many years. I had purchased at least three over many years of riding. The latest generation, for me, was not a good fit. I tried a medium and large. The medium gave me a headache and left an imprint of the pattern on my forehead. It also pushed my eye glasses into the bridge of my nose for more discomfort. The large was too big, so I could not find a good fit. I have spoken with three other people who had the same issue. All had a nice imprint of the helmet's liner in our forehead. I ended up moving onto a Daytona and that company's medium fit like my old Bell 500. Thanks for the review.
Yes, Daytona will provide a better and more snug fit and sit a lot lower on the head but unfortunately for the rest of us outside US in most countries they aren't permitted as DOT-only certified helmets.
@@babolababs4732 Not just that, the quality of manufacture and materials lack in Daytona, also they aren't as safe as Bell C500, if they were everyone would be wearing only Daytona helmets and call it a day.
@@babolababs4732 how is the wind noise in your Helmet?
@@iluvbiggirlz420 Very similar to my open face Shoei J-O
Hi, When not using the visor shield, does it noisy like the wind soud? Thx
Do you guys sell a 2nd hand front frame of 2018 duke 390?
Hi
Thanks for your vidéo about the C550 !!!
What si the Bluetooth brand mark toi use please ?
How's the noise level?
What headset did you install? Looks like a Sena 20 series. If so did you have to trim any inside the helmet?
Correct! I am utilizing the Sena 20S EVO. I didn't have to trim anything up inside the helmet. The fit wasn't perfect but I was able to make it work pretty easily. Cheers! -Brandon
how did you possibly put an intercom with bell custom 500?
Nice counrty roads .Very pretty country ...
I bought mine two years ago... in XL it was a little bit bigger than I wanted too, but the smaller one in L was just to small... really wanna know when they changed the round-oval to intermediate oval... on a positive side, even though it is a tight big it is not heavy and quiet enough... the biggest thing is versatility... I got a faceshield in my bags to attach if the rain surprises me... and a visor to block the sun... in spring and fall I wear... goofy as it is goggles on top in case it is colder than expected and the sun shades won't do... the biggest decision for me was the color option as I opted for the RSD (Roland Sams Design) scheme... I also found that the helmet doesn't fit as perfect as the full face... I was eyeballing the carbon version... I think the on board riding gear review is awesome... thx Brandon
What is measurement around your head in inches? Mine is 22 1/2 inches, and I am trying to decide between a large and X-large. Some of these helmets fit a little too tight for me.
@@williamarinder8809 23.8 inches or 60.5 cm with oval headshape... L too small and XL too big depending on helmet...
@@da72ma Thanks for the info. Large should fit me at 22 1/2 inches.
The Bell Custom 500 now fit true to size. Maybe your head circumference is in between 2 sizes. I would recommend go size smaller as the hard styro padding will give in over time or alternatively can be manually compressed by your fingers or by the 'spoon method' as many out there do, me included. The issue with recent Custom 500 as I described in my reply to Ol' Iron Rider, is that being ECE certified they're now much bigger and wear a lot more bobble-head style that the older (and smaller/thinner) DOT certified Custom 500s.
@@babolababs4732 I agree that it gave and looks like a bobblehead but I became fond of Bell helmets...
head size 55 cm and what size would it be?
What do you ride an electric bike?
This is a very good review. What l can confirm, from now owning one, is that is good as a -go to the shop slow- helmet. It feels cheap. The straps are thin and not padded. The d rings have been stamped out of a thin sheet of metal. The inside padding is so thin that even correct size is not comfortable. Cheek pads are not suited to all sizes. A helmet that fits the crown of your head may not fit the width of your face, leaving visible gaps. We are talking basic stuff here. Its a collectors helmet to wear at low speed and hang on the wall. I am bemused at how poor the materials and fitment are for a modern helmet. Go Japanese if want something that works. This one relies too much on “heritage” or in that people who where famous used it because at the time there was no better thing. Vintage can be done properly to modern standards with a bit more care.
Wow how did you install bluetooth on 500 custom?? I have one and I gave up installing.
What Bluetooth system were you using?
Question... Would you happen to have any idea when (what year) Bell Helmets (re: Custom 500) changed their sizing configuration, from “round” oval to “intermediate” oval??
I enjoyed Bell helmets years ago.. and wanted to add a new one to my collection.
But I find they don’t seem to fit me as comfortably as they once did. Is this a “recent” change??
They were saying on another video 2014
7-8 years ago. But now since they also attained the ECE certification they wear bigger and bulkier as the styro padding had gotten thicker (ultimately resulting in bigger outer shell) to satisfy more stringent ECE regulations over the more basic DOT. Bell Custom 500 used to be a low profile helmet when manufactured for US market, not anymore. If you're after a lower profile ECE helmet look at DMD and Marko open face helmets, both sit lot lower on the head and carry same level of protection than the bulkier Bell Custom 500.
@@babolababs4732 Thanks.. Good info..!! 👍👍
Do you think the sizing is true to size? A lot of people in reviews say that this helmet runs about a size small.
We find that it fits true to size especially after the helmet breaks in the traditional 10-15%. Out of the box it should be tight but once the pads start to relax it will get looser over time (which can be a safety issue if its loose out of the box). As long as the internal head shape is right for your head (sizing won't fix that fitment issue), you should be just fine with your normal size. Feel free to try it on for 20/30 minutes and call out Customer Service riders to talk through the fitment you are experiencing as well and make sure it works for you. -Pat
ride up river road past gsk that's where i work lol
Imagine crashing with this while on a TURBO BUSA.
Returned mine as instantly i have a 🍄 look. I went for daytona
What size was it ?
Lemme guess, narrow face and long head shape? My mate was like that too, but kept it regardless, he tried Daytona but it's apples and oranges when it comes to build quality and overall protection and materials used.
@@hodaka1000 Size doesn't matter believe me. If your head shape isn't "right" for Bell C500, you will also look like a balloon, XS or XXL regardless.

Yeah you've gotta try them on unless you're getting one the same as the hat you're already wearing

what i really like about that helmet is.. fuck all I'm quite attached to my face
