We are very much thankful to Mr. Arun Shourie for giving his excellent and incisive views on this subject. He more or less echoed the thoughts and views of millions of other Indian country men. I do remember Mr. Arun shourie from the days he was the Chief Editor of the Indian Express English daily. He was one of the most reputed Ministers in the Vajpayee Ji Cabinet also. He is a man of very high integrity and high intellectual. He is a very towering figure compared to these dwarfs in the present PM regime.
Now coming to the point, it all boils down to nothing but making a mountain out of a mole hill. It was just a simple Tweet from Mr. P.Bhushan and there is nothing serious to bring disrepute to the supreme court CJI . In fact the picture of the CJI sitting on a motor byke does not seem to have been taken anywhere inside any Court premises or so. If this does not amount to free speech then what does free speech ever mean. And how the hell can this amount to comtempt of Court. If this comment in a twitter is a case for Contempt of Court, how the hell does the supreme court completely and conveniently forgets the act of the Supreme court lady employee who had levelled false charges of sexual harassment against the Supreme court Judge himself and also the case of the supreme court Judges 4 of them coming out in revolt against the Supreme Court itself. Why were these, not made out to be a cases of comtempt of Court? What is sauce to the geese has to be sause to the Gander also. The supreme Court’s treatment against Mr. Prashanth is most bizzare and ridiculous. More and more people should come out to voice their concern and show strength of solidarity.

Prashant Bhushan went after a Judge on a photo of him sitting on a Harley Davidson. He lied that the court was nit working whereas he himself had filed a litigation, proceedings on which were going on. He has done this on multiple occasions.

@@harrypotter9667 There are serious issues in this case. 1. Should the judge sit on a BJP Leader's son's bike? This clearly makes us doubt about their unbias'ness. 2. Is this really an important case to take up right now? Why was this taken up right now, other than being worried that everybody will expose the justice system. 3. This court did not handle election related cases on time. Election cases have to be handled within 6months, but they are draggin it for 5 years. Doesn't the court know, they can't provide any justice after 5years or they do not care for justice? Respect should not be demanded, it should be earned. I know it is very difficult to earn respect. Also don't expect every body to respect.

Great interview Madam. It was Arun Shourie at his best. Kudos to him an absolutely no nonsense person. His mention of Justice Krishna Iyer & Justice Tuljapurkar .They were truly tall Judges with impeccable record of probity in their public & personal lives as we rarely come across such great people in the present times.Times have changed & morals, ethics, integrity have all gone for toss in the lure for lucre.

Arun Shourie more than being a Minister in AtalBihari Vajpayee Govt. is a civil rights fighter that all know. when he says about 'PM Care' judgement of Supreme court and said 'तुम्हारे बाप का पैसा है?' is right. Just because Govt. has formed a trust where as there is money into it of the Govt. department and established for the public it must be accountable to the public and that is why it must come under RTI and must be audited by CAG not a private auditor of its choice. Judiciary having become complicit with executive it is Prashant Bhushan who seeks justice is the man CJI has targetted him. And it is people who spend money for the Judiciary as well and the constitution does not allow them to ignore their accountability and transparency. That there was an allegation of a lady working in Supreme court with the then CJI Gogoi and where as he should have recuse himself but he did not and decided his own case harassed the lady and declared that Gogoi is not guilty and allegations are dismissed. Is this Judiciary that we have been knowing ?
If this is Trust fund it should not have been as PM Care Fund....it should have been as " Modi Care Fund" so that it could be considered as a trust Fund.....and not answerable to any one what a shame for Democracy and Secularism in this great Country?

honestly supreme court in the past few years has acted more like bjp mouthpiece rather then an independent body. I don't hate/support modi but I do care about the independence of the pulic institutions that are meant to be independent by the constitution, and if i don't feel its the case, i shall raise my voice as a proud Indian. Arun Shourie ji a seasoned man gives a wonderful reasoning when speaks against the SC and their recent objectionable omission and commissions acts. It’s time to raise above the insinuations the SC is facing and every effort must be made to restore honour and credibility.

I am a regular Print viewer and I respect the journalism you people do in this era of sensationalism. Also in spite of being a regular viewer maybe this is the first time I am commenting on any of your videos. I am extremely shocked on how this interview was conducted and how the interviewer is not telling the complete truth here. The Supreme Court acknowledges that the first part of the tweet regarding the CJI riding the 50 lakh motorbike is only Mr. Bhushan’s comment on the CJI as an individual. However it is the 2nd part of the tweet which states “at a time when he keeps the SC in lockdown mode denying citizens their fundamental rights to access justice” that was deemed contempt worthy and totally false. As per the SC judgement “The said tweet is capable of giving an impression to a layman, that the CJI is enjoying his ride on a motorbike worth Rs.50 lakh belonging to a BJP leader, at a time when he has kept the Supreme Court in lockdown mode denying citizens their fundamental right to access justice.” This is totally false as the judgement also mentions that after the physical hearings couldn’t happen because of COVID; the various benches of the SC held 879 hearings through video conferencing and have heard 12748 matters in total between 23.03.2020 and 4.8.2020. The interviewer neglected to even mention this and question Mr. Shourie regarding his friend’s very apparent lie. I understand the media has the most to lose in the freedom of speech debate; but isn’t it the duty of media to expose lies stated by Mr. Bhushan under the guise of putting forward his “opinion”. Even if Mr. Bhushan doesn’t want to apologize he should atleast explain what his intent behind peddling such lies was and the media should question that as well. When I watch the Print I always expect you guys to give the complete picture; but I felt in this case you seemed to show a very lopsided view of things.
I suggest you to watch shekar gupta's video on this. I agree with your comment Prashanth bushan crossed a line but rather than leaving it as a fringe tweet the sc has chosen to make a statement out of this. That is what is worrying and has far reaching consequences in the long run. Even lower courts can haul up people now citing this as precedent. I mean our former cji took a RS mp seat should we also not question that? Frankly do you see a chief justice of Indian courts riding a motorcycle of ruling party member is good optics for his office? I think anybody should be able to ask questions about this.

Our so called liberal intellectuals like have been lying on social media on a regular basis for the last 3-4 years. They should be called out for that. The CJI riding a motorbike gifted to him by a BJP person is terrible but saying the court has stopped doing its duty to give justice to people is also wrong.

There are some people who always want the Supreme Court to give judgement in their favour irrespective of the fact that they are extremely low minority. Parliamentary democracy functions on the basis of majority . Similarly in Supreme Court also majority decision prevails. When the Supreme Court gives judgement, majority, may be 90% or so, welcome it and there is no reason and basis to lament against such judgement.

In the overall contempt controversy concerning Prasant Bhusan, it appears that Supreme Court has lowered its dignity and honour more than the tweets of Prasant Bhusan.
It is a very famous saying that by acknowledging them, you validate them. I think SC voluntarily made out an issue out of two random tweets of Senior Advocate. Oza had made far grave remarks on the functioning of Gujarat HC and SC advised the HC to consider his apology. All I can is here is - "Hypocrisy ki bhi hadh hoti hai"

Regardless of Mr. Shourie’s opinions on current events issues, I still have an immense respect for him. His work speak for itself. His books on Hindu Resurgence will live on long after he is gone.
Last year the way Supreme Court handled important Sexual harassment case was horrible. Institutions should not rely on how individual judge behaves.

this has been going on for some time and should be stopped at certain point. it undermines the justice, if anyone feels justice has not been done he has full right to appeal, this is a right given in our constitution to everyone, including condemned.
Personal experience is that most of Indians lost faith in indian courts. The main problem is that Lawers, judges and staff nexus at all levels. If a person wishes file a case a lot of money has to be spent. There is no guarantee honesty of Lawers. There is no honesty in Lawers. Most of them are money makers. I have a lot to say. Contempt law should removed immediately. No use for public. In word I like to say that most of Indians lost faith in indian judiciary except for big and celebrities and politicians
Freedom of speech should be absolute, contempt case regarding some comment or speech made is wrong , interpretation are subjective matter. Judges are not above criticism.
Plus it will set a precedent for the future and for the lowers courts. This might get used against others even against the current ruling party members in the future, so people should be careful in supporting these types of proceedings.

True, Supreme Court itself already downgraded it's value, previously it was assumed that judgements would be solely based on law, now everyone knows it would be by the interpretation of the law in a way which the government wants.

All have forgotten the main issue of SC and its responsibility towards peoples, that **what people of this country thinking about the SCs credibility, vulnarability, political bias and personal ambitions of judges in relation to thier political affiliations, contradictory judgements irrelevant to evidence on record so and so.
There must be an agency to get feed back from citizens of this country, who are the pillars of democracy that ** the pulse of people on each controversial case judgement, what the people putting forth relavent evidence which the court missed to note or wantedly put aside, **** on the basis of this feed back from people through above survey yhe courts can modify or recognise thier lacuna in knitting the evidence prpperly. .
If you neglect people and bother about your bosses and political bigwigs the matter of this controversies will continue unabated and different groups will be provided with a subject of this nature to criticise courts.
This case of shri Prashanth Bhushan is a small and negligible case when compared to 4 ex sitting judges openly criticized SC before media and its nature of distribution of cases to judges.
This case is just a drop in the ocean but has been made a most controversial and damaging SCs image in and out of india.
Prashant deserves harsh punishment. There is a bunch of lawyers who want to handle the judiciary according to their choice. Whenever court gives any verdict which is not as per their choice, they start character assassination of judges. But now time has changed, judges have also realised that such pressure tactic by such lawyers will not be tolerated. Freedom of speech does not give you freedom for others character assassination.

There is a code of ethics in any organisation , business and military that no insider derails the organisation. Bhushan as part of SC cannot make slanderous allegations. That definitely damages the image of SC. If he cannot prove, he deserves to be pulled up. If he were so passionate about talking out, he should have quit as SC advocate before that.

Critical thinking of this capacity is missing with most people in power in our country.
Prashant Bhushan deserves to be punished for engaging in unwarranted criticism. Decision makers,including judges may err from time to time. But the tone of the criticism has a malicious undertone.
All of us are aware of the integrity of the judiciary and the advocates.
It is better that people like your guest speaker do some introspection and draft a code of conduct.
That would be constructive criticism.

Mr Bhushan never requested for an opportunity to provide evidence for his repeated slander on unnamed Chief Justices, which might or might not be true, but is intolerable without proof, but on just his belief. In fact, we are wondering why he is being shown a lenience which no ordinary citizen would have been shown.
