Yep same Key, close to same tempo. If you're a little practiced in music you will hear some weird things where the rhythm acts up a little bit because he can't finish every cadence properly (Not sure if cadence is the right word, translating music terms is one hell of a pain).
That said, this is very well mixed though.

No, it's not wrong. maybe All Star was shallow as written, but there are plenty of critical theories that state the original intent of the author is not paramount to the meaning of something. if you see importance and meaning in this that no one else did, not even the creators, than it has that meaning, even if it's only for you.
Besides, I've always though that this song was let down by a lackluster arrangement and performance, and maybe a little Green Day was all it ever needed.

College music theory professor here, to explain why this works so well. All Star's melody is essentially the tonic triad with some passing tones. The chord progression of the Green Day was written intentionally ambiguously to complement the tonic triad, which can be heard in most of the chords and is also a focal point of the original melody. While All Star focuses on "Do", September focuses on "Mi", giving it a slightly more sentimental sound due to the Re-Mi relationship. Ultimately, the similarities between the two melodies is the reason this mashup works so well, and it brings the feels because of the accompaniment: the descending bass line, the focus on half-steps, and the mode mixture half-diminished supertonic seventh chord.

You know, I wanted to say this because I never saw any comments saying it, but I think that you couldn't have chosen a better pairing of songs. Not just because they work so well together in a musical theory sense, but because All Star is the antithesis of Wake Me Up When September Ends. The latter is all about how pain, tragedy, and misery can break you. How you sometimes just want to curl up into a ball and never come out. It was a song about defeat, and resigning to being dragged down in sorrow. But All Star is about getting beaten down, kicked around, and shit on, only to get back up again because you know you're better than that. It's about the importance of recognizing how strong you can be, and how no matter how bad things can get, you can either run away and hide, or you can dust yourself off, run back in, and get your ass kicked again because life is about the journey, not the destination. Life sucks. There's no avoiding the shitty parts. So we need to take them in stride and keep walking. Every single person is their own "All Star," we just need the strength to break free of circumstance and rise up despite it all. By combining them, you created a song that gives credence to both halves, about the deep pain of tragedy infused with the inspiring call to greatness that everyone needs to hear when they're at rock bottom. And I don't know if any of that was intentional or not, but you created what I unironically think is one of the most powerful and important songs on the internet. It is without a doubt true art, and one of my favourite songs ever.

Not to mention that the melancholy music behind the late singers vocals eludes to the sadness associated with his death, yet all the while he is singing rather upbeat over it, as if to imply “everything’s alright it’s my time”. Also it gives it that perfect bitter-sweet feeling. This is absolutely beautiful in that it’s two big hits that have merged together in an original way, transforming into something totally separate from the original meaning of each song. This is the absolute best tribute to Steve in my opinion, it really wraps things up with a bow on top. I’m definitely going to have to work this up to where I can play and sing this, mostly as a joke to pull out of my ass when friends are around but also because this is seriously cool

because every pop song is structured the same with similar time signatures and chords
pop/rock music is inherently generic and cyclical because it's what most people like and therefore what sells the most records.
the detailed answer is that pop/rock music is structured around two voicings, the bass and guitar typically doubling each other as a basso ostinato, and the melody lying in the vocal track. Removing the vocal track then has a high chance of leaving you with what's basically just a bass line, which means that most melodies in the same key will fit(unless they are pretty unconventional). The dissonances that occur in that case are most likely leading dissonances that end up being pleasing to the ear.
That's how two songs with different chord progressions can be mashed up. By replacing the bass line and avoiding clear chords as much as possible. You don't want anyone to hear the original intended chord progression, but rather to give them two voices and let their subconscious fill in the progression based on the harmonic context. This is actually an important tool in composing music. If you have a melody and a bass line and you perfect those two, filling in the chords and other harmonies only requires that you listen through the piece and your subconscious will tell you what you expect to happen in the background harmonically. So then it's a matter of either doing that or trying to make it unexpected.

AkaGenya1, I as well know the meaning of "Wake Me Up When September Ends", but I do not think that making this mashup was a mistake. Maya Bishop I would agree with if it wasn't for the fact that the instrumental still evokes the same emotions due to its closeness to the lyrics, but the song hits me harder than most due to losing a parent at an early age. If someone else enjoys it that's good for them, but I just can't.

Sad situation but hopeful that we can come out of it. When all of our militaries fail to fend off the aliens is when Shrek comes out of hiding and brings his meme magic to save the world.
As Shrek fights the alien, everybody sings Smash Mouth's All Star to help power up Shrek. Shrek wins as the alien fleets all get destroyed but he dies in the process. Everybody mourns on his death and Shrek day is established as a new global holiday to celebrate Shrek's contributions to humanity.
Cut out the goofy "Shrek saves the day" stuff and I would legitimately watch that film.

Kromnite Fair use is an extremely complicated part of copyright law, as any entertainment lawyer will tell you. It's way, way too complicated to explain in a youtube comment.
What you had said regarding the direct re-upload earlier... yes, a direct re-upload is clear-cut plagiarism and would absolutely not be protected by fair use. But that DOESN'T mean that if it's not plagiarism, it's fair use.
The only real safe thing I can easily tell you about fair use is: if you use a small clip for the purpose of extensively commenting on or criticizing it (like h3h3 does), you're protected by fair use. Playing a song because it makes cool background music, and you're absolutely NOT.
It all depends on how you use it, what purpose you use it for, the nature of the original work, and the monetary impact your use would have on the original work.
