Lyrics:
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass
Seven years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Ring out the bells again
Like we did when spring began
Wake me up when September ends
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Like my father's come to pass
Twenty years has gone so fast
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends
Wake me up when September ends...

Yup, been haunting me ever since it was released as a single of the album in June of 2005 when I was in my 20's in Iraq. The lose of his father hit my heart as it was super close to how I lost mine. Than the Video was made after I'd done two extended tours and lost the girl, but are kids are now the new gen🙊🙉🙈
Y lo sigo amandooo... Los recuerdos hermosos.. pequeños pero vibrantes aún... ❤ 2024... Despiértame en septiembre 😢
ya man, time flies really.

This song was in my 25 year old sons phone. He died on 9-23-2014. His summers will never end. My heart just breaks everyday, but hes never gonna feel pain again. Just love. I've been raising his son, as my grandfather did for me. Hes 9 now and i recognize everyday, hes just like his dad. I got a do-over, but ive give my life for them to grow up together. Honor the tears, they cleanse the soul..
I just know your amazing and your doing so well, and everyone is so proud of you ♥︎♥︎
aye i really feel for you. This song my brother used to play greenday across from my room from our connecting bathroom, I could hear it all the time. He loved them as much as any kid could at that time. had posters all over his walls. Spiked his hair and started dressing emo. I remember him playing this song.. Different times man. I lost my brother( a stupid heroin overdose) when he was 25 as well in september of 2016...ironic. I could not wait for september end but the truth is, is that the rest of my life I will always have this incident and loss just there. Like always there. Life is jst not the same anymore
Thank you for sharing this story with us, hope you continue to do well in life mate ;)

Those were unnerving times man. Glad to hear you made it.
Short story behind the song...
Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong wrote this song about his father, who died of cancer on September 1, 1982 when Billie was just 10 years old. At his father's funeral, Billie cried, ran home and locked himself in his room. When his mother got home and knocked on the door to Billie's room, Billie simply said, "Wake me up when September ends," hence the title.
Pretty darn sad but awesome of BJA at the same time.

Billie, the singer, wrote this about his father who tragically passed away in September when he was 10. He said, “Wake Me Up When September Ends”, to his mother when she checked on him after he ran home from the funeral because he couldn’t handle it. 7 years after his father passed, he joined Green Day, and 20 years after his dad passed, he and Green Day wrote the song.
People absolutely can joke about this song, I’m just explaining the meaning of the title if anyone is curious.
Edit: Thank you for all the likes! Green Day fans are the best!
I can so much feel his feelings, just hearing the song and it's exactly 7 years and 9 days passed...and I listen to this part on repeat, having a weird feeling...

Should have spoken a word to my face pals.
He’s actually asked time and time again for people not to do that because this song was dedicated to his father that passed from cancer when he was 10, it happening on September 1st.
I come every 1st of October 🤷🏾♂️
My husband, a 20 combat vet breaks down at this song.... Every time...we lost too many friends...
Yes we did. Green day was one of the only bands that realised we were fighting a war for 10 years, all through their hay day. Yeah, Osama Bin Ladin attacked us, but Billy Joe knew that the U.S was using that as an excuse to send a bunch of kids to die in countries that had nothing to do with that. Armstrong's a smart dude and spoke up about it.
Dick Cheney's war.
I remember hearing this song right before I left for bootcamp. Lots of things were relatable in this video, the war, the girlfriend, all the unknowns.

This song hit me hard, today I nearly died from COVID complications, I just think of how that would've affected those around me if I wasn't rushed to the emergency room, even though I now have debt to my neck, I'm glad to still be here for those who do care. I'm only 23, I didn't think I could die from it but seeing the light even for a minute really made me appreciate what I have in life even if it isn't much.
It's 2075, and I'm still watching this. My favorite band. If you're wondering, I have a time machine and I came back.
Unortunate fact- bille made this song as a tribute to his dad that passed away when he was 10. after his dad's funural he ran into his room his mom asked him to please come out but didn't want to come out and he said to his mother "wake me up when September ends"

Weird. I never heard the song start to finish or really even paid attention to what was being said. But somehow, I got the feeling it was about him losing his dad. Also my dad likes this song
There's a great video on here of them performing the song on Howard Stern where Billie Jo talks about exactly this. It's pretty obvious there's a ton of pain still there. Believe me, it doesn't go away.

2 early m8, wake me up in 29 days!
I fuckin hate September. I honestly wish I could sleep through the entire next 4 months, every year.
My only child passed away back in 2014. Her bday is Sept 11 and it really pains me to live through this every year, now. This year, she'd be 7 years old.
Unfortunately that will never happen because of her mother's negligence and carelessness. Texting and driving is what caused the death of my child. Her mother was doing it and went off the roadway. The car spun out of control, through a ditch, and into a utility pole right where my daughter was strapped into her car seat. She didn't make it through the night. 5 years later and I still can't deal with it. 😔
I used to love September. Especially after my daughter was born only 9 days before my bday. For the next 22 months, I looked forward to September. Then it all came crashing down. 😔 I miss her dearly.

My dad last away 6 years ago. 2017, December 5th. I was 15 years old. Still miss him everyday. Even on my most toughest days, it hurts even more. I am engaged now with the love of my life and I have been crying about wishing my dad was here to watch me grow and live life.
My condolences. Better days will come, I promise ❤
This song is so powerful. Its really helping with dealing with grief of loosing my own mum during the pandemic 😢
This was a hit when my son volunteered to go war . I was scared shitless when he left . He came back to us but a lot didn't
I hope it went alright. I know war does take from us all they know about. Not even those people won't talk about.
@@myingthungomurry9894 Thank you very much , unfortunately it did change my son .
@@oldman9843 sorry, I meant to say wars do take from us more than they talk about. Even those they won't talk about. Mental trauma is more dangerous than physical trauma, I opine.
@@myingthungomurry9894 Its okay I know what you mean
My brothers entering...hope nothing happens.
I'm 15 years old, I lost my dad may 21st of 2020, not that anyone asked for my story but I feel it's necessary to say this, please don't take life for granted, I know you've probably heard that from a thousand different people but you never think anything of it until something actually happens , I would give my whole life away just to spend one more day with him, he was my best friend, please go hug your parents and tell them how much you love them because that's something I can never do again, I'm sorry if this makes anyone emotional
Thank you for sharing. I doubt there’s anything anyone could say that will lessen the pain of that event in your life, and I don’t want to say anything hollow, but my advice would be to live like he’s there watching you, and guiding you to a better life even now. I am immensely sorry for your loss, and I hope you’re able to cope as best you can.

I’m sorry you lost you dad at such a young age, life shouldn’t be like that, I also lost my dad approx 10 years ago why I responded to your comment in the first place and although you may not understand this yet cuz his passing was so recent the pain and heartache I believe is something that lives on with you it just becomes easier to deal with also cuz with me the pain and heartache just wasn’t every day any more after time it came and went with the holidays and memories that popped up here and there so I I hope the best for you and know your dad is watching down on you always parents never stop doing that.😀
@Ram I'm sorry all of that had to happen to you, thank you and the same back
@@shawnaorloff6161 thank you, i appreciate your understanding and I'm sorry about what also has happened to you
