Whenever I feel the need to have my soul ripped out of my body and stomped into the saddest oblivion possible, I watch this movie.
As an alcoholic…….this movie captured the desperation and humiliation of an alcoholic
And you know it too that’s the worst part when ur so far gone but not blacked out on a bender and your there your trying your cognitive functions and hand eye is just gone and your know everyone’s watching you stumble about and make a fool out of yourself
I quit alcohol for 89 days but then i got tempted to have a glass of wine and i couldn't stop. i blacked out 4 nights ago and people told me i got kicked out of a club. I dont remember anything and im so embarrassed. I came across this movie after reading stories about being blacked out on reddit and im in tears by the end of the movie. Very true. Im so ashamed and embarrassed by how alcohol as affected me. Im 3 days sober now (i know not long but its an achievement to me) and im hoping i never touch it ever again. Good luck to anyone out there going through the same ❤️

I knew when I saw this movie that Nicholas Cage was going to win the Academy Award for Best Actor that year.
Yeah it is harsh. Prepare yourself. So intimate that you feel bad for watching.
Oh my God these 90s narrations are hilarious. This movie is a serious drama with tones of nihilism thrown in.

I just recommend this to my adult son, after mentioning Shue. But I warned him not to watch it when in a melancholy mood. The movie is burned in my memory.

One of the best movies I've seen this year. And it turned out to be one of my best love-theme movies of all times. The best Nicolas Cage's performance and it revealed a new actress that I had never heard of before - Elisabeth Shue! Oh, Christ, I fell for her and decided to start Shue's month - watching almost 90% of her movies. And wasn't disappointed. She's made me feel so sorry that she didn't have international superfame and that I didn't have a chance to get acquainted with her. Oh, if I had had a time machine and could meet her personally... From all actresses I would have chosen her. My one and only love...

@Wynn Right now, maybe she isn't. But in some movies she used to look great. And it's not just about being a beautiful woman, it's also about being a beautiful actress able to make a great performance. That's what I mean calling her great.

Im going to guess that the book is way more brutal than the film adaptation.
Yeah honestly Nic's movie 'Adaptation' is not that brutal, so I wouldn't doubt that anything 'Leaving Las Vegas' related, especially the book, would be more intense.

Sheesh, this music and editing of the preview would have you think it's a comedy or romantic comedy. Certainly comedic elements with Nicolas Cage's choices and tendencies, but not the way the actual movie is edited.

It’s about acceptance. You can’t stop anyone or change anyones mind once they have a decision like that.
That is one of the most misleading trailers ever! The film is brilliant but very downbeat. The trailer makes it look like a romcom and it is far from that.

I dont get these films where a hot woman supposedly falls in love with a total loser who has ZERO redeeming qualities. Please tell me ONE thing that Cage's character did in this movie that would make a woman like him? LOL
What bothers me a little is that Nic now lives in Vegas and has become somewhat of a drinker (only from videos I’ve seen and past behavior) I really hope these are just occasional bouts and he’s not gaining a dependence. I would be absolutely devastated if anything happened to this man. ❤️
